Wrong Translation of a class - German

Do you speak German?

In your Translation you call a Sorcerer (m) Hexe and (f) Hexerin and this total wrong!

The word Sorcerer means in German “Zauberer”, but anyway you can still call it as a witch (Hexe) because it’s to right, but please spell it the right way!

There is no way of a feminine (f) way to say witch in German because it is already feminine (f): Hexe (see the German Duden: http://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/Hexe ) and the male one is called: (m) Hexer (see the German Duden http://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/Hexer )

Please change it on you localization because it’s a shame for a big company to have this big mistake in the translation!

Seriously?

The class has been translated this way ever since they announced the classes during the beta, so you're more than 3 years late if you want to complain about it. Even if there was a valid reason to change it, now that the class is named that way in various interface texts, on the official website and in various fan-made guides, they won't ever change it.

At the time, the Jedi Consular was called Jedi Wizard, which is why they couldn't translate the Sith Sorcerer as "Zauberer", and they didn't bother to change it when the rename occured.

And by the way, there's nothing wrong about the translation like you claim. In the game, the class is called:

  • Sith-Hexer (m),
  • Sith-Hexe (f)

Both of which are valid German words. From my experience, the translators on SWTOR have always been doing a great job translating the various texts, so I don't think your hate is justified.

  • 2 weeks later...

Fact is, the german community has been abandoned by Bioware. They fired the whole community staff in Europe.

The german translation takes several patches after a major release to reach an acceptable level. Abilities are not 1:1 translated, much items (such as relicts) are showing the wrong stats in the german UI. These bugs have been reported by german players severeal times. Nothing happend. Due to these circumstances i am using the english client right now to make sure, that the abilitity descriptions are mostly correct.

The german players are only cash cowes for Bioware and nothing more.

It's not that bad. The German translation has been high-quality ever since release, there are very few typos (less than in the English texts) and the translations are done very thoroughly. This has not changed, the translations are still top-notch, even with 3.0. The problem is that we get the translations too late, e.g. with the 3.0.1 patch two weeks after the expansion came out.

However, this is not the fault of the translators but of the U.S. development team in Austin. For both GSH and SoR, the developers have not been able to finish the patch as fast as usually, which means the translators got their texts later than usual and were not able to finish all of them in time.

The best solution would of course be to just make changes to the development team or use more realistic deadlines, but failing that, an acceptable solution would IMO be to at least insert the English texts when the German texts are not ready yet.

While not every German player can speak English, the game is unplayable when the text is missing and you do not know which button to click. If we at least got the English text displayed in those cases, we'd be able to work around this. I'm hoping that the missing translations on GSH and SoR were just a temporary blunder and will no longer show up in the next updates.
