dvametragluposti
http://imgur.com/nVU3UHi There, that happens whenever it wants to. I have a i5 processor, I have manually unparked all cores. This is the ONLY game that does this. This was screenshot today on a completely new Windows 7 installation with latest drivers. *I'll run GPU-Z in parallel to see if the card usage also drops and will post results soon. Laurreth
That looks like your entire system just chokes. Is the HDD LED solid when that happens, and do you see anything in the Windows event viewer?
dvametragluposti
That looks like your entire system just chokes. Is the HDD LED solid when that happens, and do you see anything in the Windows event viewer? Well, I can move the cursor and alt+tab, so it's not a typical system choke :/ I don't see anything specific or repeatable in the even viewer that would indicate what the problem is. I'll try few more games, so far everything else I've played (system intensive) worked flawlessly.

dvametragluposti
Care to post a dxdiag? (Put it inside spoiler and code tags.) Before DxDiag, here is what HWINFO x64 has to say: * http://i.imgur.com/peEmedp.jpg * <- I have no idea what to make of it. It's definitely not temperature throttling as I cleaned my PC and applied new thermal paste to GPU and CPU and left my chassis open. And yes, my GPU really works between 85-90°C. And once more, it's a clean Win 7 installation, with a clean SWTOR installation, same problem. PS: Total activity is I/O from System and game disk, both SSD. Laurreth
Does your mainboard have any automagic "energy saving" or auto over/underclocking mechanisms, or are you running software that tries to do similar things? (That's what I've been banging my head against for the last two weeks…)

(That's what I've been banging my head against for the last two weeks…) Not even close. Even the Win power options are on max. I'll try to revert to some older version of GPU drivers, this seems like either CPU or GPU hiccups and drags down the other. And there ain't no drivers for CPU
dvametragluposti
Well, so far, it seems that either it was a GPU heating issue caused by either something with the game overloading the GPU, or it was the drivers, or because how old the card is. I can surely tell that SWTOR now causes my GPU to spin the fan at max speeds, even now that I cleaned it and and reapplied the heating paste. Basically the GPU hit 100°c and throttled down... I am also running the game and the launcher with manually set admin privileges just in case, since it was mentioned. I am closely monitoring everything, so if it persists but the temperature stays within limits, I'll report back. PS: SWTOR didn't put so much strain on the GPU before, I'm using the exact same settings as always. I'm looking at you BioWare Edited May 8, 2014 by dvametragluposti
Laurreth
I've always had SWOR heat the GPU quite a lot in certain situations. Enabling vsync sometimes helps since it throttles the graphics pipeline. In Total War games (which must have the least efficient engine on the planet), I resorted to a lower power profile through driver settings; throttling the GPU to maybe "80%" (whatever that meant) showed close to no performance degradation but a huge temperature drop, and I'd expect things to be similar in SWOR which isn't GPU limited anyway. Oh, and summer is coming, sure you aren't running into seasonal overheating? Edited May 8, 2014 by Laurreth

Nah, thing is, SWTOR per se caused a lot of GPU load and that caused heat buildup, but if I had even Firefox running in the background there was the "self preserve" GPU down throttling. Sometimes just having SWTOR only also caused it. As I said, I am now on old but really good GPU drivers, and I have cleaned my PC and put in the new thermal paste. It still pushes temps to ~95°c, and 100 is where it down throttles, but it's not happening anymore. However, it wasn't like this before!!! To make it more interesting - this card was bought when SWTOR came out So it's definitely not an typical "old overheating card" issue, something has changed in SWTOR... zerophyte
I completely agree with you.. SWTOR has changed in the last two patches for the worse.. My game used to run fine with zero lag spikes since its release.. My Alienware m17xR3 has a ATI 6900m card coupled with older drivers.. I had tried running the latest Catalyst drivers 14.4 WHQL, but to no avail.. It didn't fix these 1-2 second lag spikes that I get quite frequently.. Irregardless of what I'm doing in the game.
