Need a bit of help on this one

My merc is pretty well geared but I am constantly missing attacks. Just did a parse on my ship dummy with the armor debuff active and my miss rates were as follows

Power Shot 15.1%

Rail Shot 14.6%

Unload 10.0%

In my character sheet I have 100.43% ranged and 110.43% tech accuracy (470 rating, 1% companion and 3% from skills)

I am using the standard Pyro build from the dulfy site and have tested out different combos of accuracy enhancements but I am constantly missing.......

Below is part of my combat log filtered for just power shot

Yeah just skimmed it, my bad there.

Power Shot, from memory, uses ranged accuracy, not tech accuracy.

You'll notice the tooltip says "Weapon Damage"

http://www.torhead.com/ability/7dnfBcs/power-shot

That would mean it's using your Ranged Accuracy of 100.43%. AFAIK, Ops Dummies have a 10% resist chance, which means your power shot would miss 9.57% of the time.

Your PS miss % in that fight is 16.17%, which is high, but possibly just due to bad RNG.

Compare Pizza's parse, where he missed 12.14% of PS activations, but still pulled 4080.

Your comment is of no value whatsoever to the OP

The 10% resist applies to force and tech damage. That is why sorc dps have also needed accuracy since 2.0 to get their force accuracy to 110% to overcome the resist chance

Bosses also have a chance to dodge or parry which runs off the player's Ranged/Melee acc. This was never actually nailed down to a hard value, but it was thought to be around 8% pre 2.0. When 2.0 dropped Champion and Boss mobs received an additional 10% Force/Tech Defence.

But looking at the torhead page for Power Shot, it seems to imply that it is a Special White attack, therefore running off tech accuracy. So I'm at a loss as to why a mainhand attack is missing.

He thinks his mainhand is missing attacks, his torparse log shows his mainhand isn't missing any attacks. Simples.

OP linked the wrong log. Timestamps don't match.

Maybe he was browsing through multiple logs and got confused with which was his, that's the only explanation for misses I can come up with. And I know that happens when you have more of them open at the same time

It doesn't run off of tech accuracy. There is a 'special attack' accuracy. If you hover over the ranged accuracy you will see it. It is effectively the same as tech accuracy, but behind the scenes it is not.

Ok, so does that mean that this behaviour is to be expected or does OP need to find the log and upload it?

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Have to say that for some reason the merc forum seem to be the most helpful out of all the class forums!

Yes, the full log I posted was using 100.43% accuracy so yes I did not have any MH misses. The initial posting was using 99.27% so that explains the MH misses. So basically it is expected that OH hits will miss occasionally, so that is fine. Just wanted to confirm if that was the case
