For me, it's habit from years of playing a melee character in MMOs and trying to maintain a good position. It's kind of a good habit to have since, if you're already moving, you can get out of bad on floor a bit more easily and it seems to let me see a bit more of the general battlefield, which is useful for finding adds and such. The one thing that really irks me, though, is the moon-shoe melee, the ones that incessantly spam their spacebar to jump in place. There's only one place I can think of in an MMO (but by no means am I an expert on all MMOs) where that would actually save you. Mostly, though, it just reminds me of trying to fight Boc in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, which was by far, to me, the most annoying fight in that game.
