Mallorik
I cant believe I didn't notice this until today but it sure looks like the Nova dive is just a flash fire with its wings extended. Kind of cheap, I was hoping for a future option to expand and retract wings.
ShadowsNIte
Nope, hulls look very different.
cpt_fishcakes
They are basically the same ship. The Flashfire ( one with locked wings I think ) has a slightly different hull. It looks like an adaptation of the Nova Dive design that does away with the folding wings. Its something you can imagine a defence contractor doing. The Republic put out specifications for a new scout ship and a company submits a design based on the proven Nova Dive. It makes sense it would be nice to have a completely new looking ship to fly around but it does work.
Sindariel
They aren't the same. Not even close. They can equip completely different weapons and components and have different stats. You should learn to read... Edited December 9, 2013 by Sindariel
Tenacity
He's talking about the model, not the stats. I think their plan, originally, was to let the flashfire/novadive have moving wings (novadive is wings extended, flashfire has wings folded forward). They probably couldnt get that to work, or for some reason decided not to, so they altered the models slightly to make them seperate ships (though, as everyone can see, they're still very similar in design). Markviper
Yes, their stock and possible components are different, but yes the OP is correct, they are the same ship with folded/extended wings. The cannons are even in the same spot just turned to face properly and the fuselage on the dive even has the grooves for the wings to fold. Gavin_Kelvar
It looks almost identical yes. The Flashfire looks like it had additional supports or braces added to the tops of the wings along the fuselage though. One could surmise that since the folding wings of the Nova Drive are now fixed in position the fuselage was reinforced/altered to provide better structural support there and any necessary structural adjustments resulting from flying with the wings in that position (presumably the Nova Drive's wings are only folded for storage like on air craft carries today). EDIT: this too which also goes along with the in-game description of the design origins/reasons for the flashfire. Its something you can imagine a defence contractor doing. If you change out to rocket pods like the dive has, they go away and it looks just like the dive.

Yeah the grooves in the fuselage of the nova dive is what caught my attention.
Hitomo_x
guess what ... the pike is also the same ship as the star, guard just with a added enegine and wings on it thx for stating the obvious ^^ Edited December 9, 2013 by Hitomo_x

I did notice though that the nose of the Nova Drive has fins (elevators?) on it which have been apparently removed on the Flashfire (you can see where they would be attached but they aren't there). It's hard to tell but the area right behind the cockpit also looks somewhat more solid as if extra equipment or armor was added there.
Cleet_Xia
yep.... basically the same model.

Something kind of cool, bring up a nova dive or flashfire, turn it sideways and click back and forth between the two really quick.
