1.2 Vanguard shield spec PVE

as much as the other trees got nerfed...i cant help but think PVE tanking got a nice little buff after the changes.

 

 

maybe im reading it wrong and someone can set me straight. but with energy blast being a new tanking ability not just an ammo generator we should see some additional mitigation

Loving the Vanguard change for tanking so far

 

 

Riot Strike no longer costs Energy Cells.

Great change, reliable interupt for tank and dps vanguard.

 

 

The hit timing delay on Explosive Surge has been improved.

Again, really great change, i want instant to snap the millisecond there are used.

 

 

Shield Specialist

 

Ceramic Plating: The absorption amount gained from this skill has been slightly reduced.

i suppose this is a slight nerf

 

 

Counter Attack is now a 3-point skill.

so we gain 2 free talent point..

 

 

Energy Blast is no longer limited by the global cooldown. Its damage has been reduced by approximately 15%.

Animation timing issues with Energy Blast have been addressed.

great change, i really didn't like the slight delay in energy blast du to some unecessary long animation, apparently charging gun. Now, not only it fire faster but not in the GCD so in the same time as say hammer shot.

The damage nerf was a necessary one, but over all, i think energy blast has been buffed essentialy due to the fact it's out of the GCD

 

 

Power Screen is a new 2-point skill that causes Ion Pulse and Energy Blast to build a stacking buff that increases shield absorption.

With the 2 point we save from counter attack, we can take this talent. It compensate for the ceramic plating nerf and offer a more dynamic way to improve tank survivability, always more interesting than plain passive bonus.

 

Smoke Grenade is no longer limited by the global cooldown.

Defensive cooldown should never be on the GCD, great change.

From what I was told the new Power Screen skill is a stacking 1/2% shield bonus and stacks 4 times.

 

Ceramic Plating nerf was only 2%.

Interrupt change can save me 3-5 ammo a minute.

Counter-attack is now 6% rather than 10%, so we lose 4% shield chance.

 

Absorb is down 2% from ceramic plating, but up 4% from the new stacking buff.

 

The changes to riot strike and energy blast are very welcome.

 

Also, checking out the stat balance for the new sets, they're far better itemised than the old sets (much more shield/absorb and much less accuracy and these changes are also happening to Rakata and older sets too) and Shield Spec vanguards can expect a big buff to shield/absorb ratings which will more than counteract the slight reduction in shield chance from traits.

 

All in all, I think vanguard tanks will be in a very nice position for PvE in 1.2
