Pyrotech; shield or generator?

Hey guys,

 

I'm a pub player (Bash away if you feel like it) and i'm playing a commando, i used for about a month pure gunnery and got bored of it, for the last 2 weeks i've been played with Assault (Pyro for you).

 

The skill tree is pretty much the same, a few difference but not major, and I was wondering what are you guys using, shield or generator for your off-hand?

 

I'm thinking about rolling a vanguard but since pryo would be going dps road I don't see the point of having a shield if I don't have the stats in my gears to back it up, should I stick with commando (Merc)?

Generator for PvE, Shield for PvP, at least until 1.2 hits.

 

Reason: You still have IGC baseline. Sure, you have 8-9 wasted points in the Pyro tree, but sometimes Guard > personal performance since PvP is very team-based. 2/13/26 is one of the specs I rotate through when I'm both PvPing and PvEing and even running IGC/Guard you are fully capable of killing people with Rail Shot procs - you just have to watch your heat management a little more closely.

 

Note that this won't be viable come 1.2, when Combustible Gas Cylinder will be required for PPA procs.

Use the generator, unless you have Static Shield (gives you a chance to proc a refresh on Stockstrike when shielding attacks). The idea behind using a shield generator when you're in a Assault Specialist role is that you can get a refresh on Stockstrike which can then refresh your High Impact Bolt.

Unless you are in that specific scenario, or are in a full tanking role, then you should be using a generator and not a shield.
