Healing outside combat medic

Can commandos heal well without going any points into combat medic?

 

I want to level up as gunnery but still heal 4+ heroics and the occasional flashpoint.

Actually, it depends. I believe a lot of people consider Commando to be one of the few ACs that can effectively do a hybrid DPS/Healing build. It will not do as good a job with either role as a full spec, but, especially in larger groups, having more healing than just Medical Probe and Advanced Medical Probe can be more beneficial than extra DPS or having an off-healer who can do more DPS than a full healing build may be more beneficial than an extra full healer.

 

Are there limitations, such as it being harder to maintain ammo? Yes. But the concept is valid.

Except the OP is saying no points in Combat Medic. So no, you'll be inefficient as a healer and most likely better off just DPSing to down mobs faster.
