Legacy Companion Pool vs. pre-assigned companions

How about adding a small "herd" of discoverable companions (some light, some dark, some neutral) that can be found in the world via quest or otherwise, by either faction, and have a number of additional companion slots unlockable via legacy ranks. Say, every 10 legacy levels.

 

Players could pick the companion they wanted to find/get instead of every member of a class getting just the same companions.

 

 

Heck, for that matter, you could even have "legendary" companions that could be freed from imprisonment as loot or epic mob boss drops....

 

Maybe the primal destroyer on belsavis is holding a rare drop keycode that starts a quest to free JimBob the ultra-Droid from stasis in a tomb prison, if the player's ops group can defeat the boss holding Jimbob hostage inside its instance.

 

You get the idea.
