corjoad
Just make the best pvp gear very easy to get for everyone. This is how it was in DAoC prior to TOA. Anybody could get a full set of spell crafted armor for a few hundred gold and you were set for pvp. That was the best armor and it was easily obtainable. Everybody at endgame had the same level gear and that worked great. PVP should not be about your gear, it should be about your ability. WoW arenas changed this concept and much for the worse for competitive pvp. PS Things weren't perfect in DAoC....but it doesn't look like buff bots will be a problem with this game design. Stiffoo
This sort of greatness will never be met again. Things have just changed.
Quesa
This is what these types of gear-centric games need for PvP. Gear progression is for PvE, not PvP.
ptwonline
Unfortunately, I suspect most of the people here are not here for the actual PvP, but for the accomplishment of gear, ranks, etc. Give them the gear and the ranks and they'll have nothing to do in terms of PvP. Quesa
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=198760 Removing expertise isn't a solution, in fact it's more of a hindrance than anything else. There needs to be a way to normalize the gear for PvP. Adding a PvP stat does that. The real issue is the level of involvement(grinding) needed to access the gear all but required to competitively PvP.
corjoad
In my opinion the best incentive for pvping is ranks and titles etc. I get more satisfaction from getting a higher title rank than some new piece of gear. Normalize gear and people will play for advancement and bragging rights. Or another option would be have more prestigious looking gear, but to be equipped cosmetically only..... Sabbathius
WoW arenas changed this concept and much for the worse for competitive pvp. Actually no, WoW arenas did not change that. Once you got into 2200+ rating, oh heck, even 2000+ rating, everyone would be wearing the same gear. At worst, it would be previous season's gear, which is still virtually just as good, maybe 3-5% worse, which is easily compensated for with skill. In WoW arenas, everyone wore the same gear, and gear wasn't a factor. That's common mistake most people make. What WoW DID do was add a TIME SINK to get said gear. It takes a while to get it, arena points were capped every week, so no matter how many games you played, your points for the week were capped, based on your rating. And your rating largely depended on your skill, but mostly depended on your class combination. Unfortunately in WoW, it's Class>Gear>Skill. But since in Arenas everyone wore same gear, it's Class>Skill. But even so, note the difference between a TIME SINK, which is what WoW did, and GRIND, which is what SWTOR did. In WoW, you needed 10 matches a week. Which could be done in as little as 30 minutes. You needed 30 MINUTES A WEEK. And you got your max arena points for the week, and you geared up pretty fast. What SWTOR does is GRIND. The more you play, the more you grind, the more you exploit - the faster you gear up. In the end, gear won't matter in SWTOR either. Three months down the road, most people will be 50 and in best gear, even without exploiting. But you WILL grind for it. Not defending WoW, but it wasn't as bad as people say. Blizz made a lot of idiotic decisions, and their class balance was and still is among the worst. But they got quite a few things right.

Played WoW from shortly after launch until sometime after Lich King, on and off. Was always an avid pvper. In WoW more so than any other game, gear was far far far far more important than class or level. Gear Class Level I used to tease my friend who still plays, asking him if he was still playing Gearcraft Gear of the Gear King Gearaclysm. Oh and of course the new Gears of Geardora.
