thxn
can believe how terrible this choice was. everyone told me guardian was the way to go. "go vigilance" if you don't want to be pure tank. "focus sucks!" I kill things unbelievably slow. I use t7 or kira as a companion, my damage is still weak. I am the quest where I am suppose to kill Tarnis, or Taris? Whatever his name is. I have died 9 times in a row. I have swapped out Kira/t7. I have used tank form, taunted, use medkits... doesn't matter. Can't kill this guy, can't progress. I can't believe how frustrating this is compared to my trooper who excels in damage and can even solo certain elites with his companion.

BrianDavion
are you under level to beat him? it's a tough fight but not undoable I beat him first try without useing a medipack (in fairness I had a level 50 sith jugg so I knew all the "Tricks") complete the rest of courscant, go to the courscant commedation vendor and kit yourself out (if you've done the gree quest you should have an orange chest) get fully kitted out, then go try it, if you still can't manage it go get a friend to help you (and make sure you put him on your friends list you'll need help later)
thxn
11th death still trying. My friend who is a jedi sentinel killed him with 60% hp remaining and using kira. best I have got him is 20% lowest, he kills my companion every time. I popped both the long cds (bubble/20 minute one) and he still gets me. maybe vigilance spec is just broken and not the entire advanced class (I hope). demonolithic
Send Kira in. Have her DPS for a few seconds. Pop her shield ability and you go to town letting her tank till she's almost dead then taunt and I bet you have it killed before it kills you. Lot of times you'll need to do things like this to optimize the use of your companions health pool as well since you don't get the luxury of a healer in the early knight story. Another thing is interrupts. If you have one make sure you are using it!

I think my gear is pretty decent. Haven't bought anything with commendations but my lightsaber is good. also friends can't help you with this quest. it's story mode only. Just need to be sure to have the same story option checked in preferences if they are also a knight. Just be sure you are group leader and zone in first. Saice
Gear up. Remember that the Stats End and Str are your main focus. Use your interrupts and stuns/knockbacks. Sunder armor get it to 5 stacks and keep in there. My main is a pure tank spec'd guardian and while some fights can be long I have no issues so far with any of my class related missions. And Focus does suck it is the shared tree between Guardian and Sentinel. I have all but 2 of my points in Defense. Only none defense talent I have is Improved Sundering. thxn
well I will try again. he already did the quest so he can't help. also I have no interrupts unless I got them at 17 - haven't trained anything yet.

They should be able to even if they have already done it. That's why I was saying be sure you are group leader and zone in first. Many times I have done a Heroic just to have someone ask in general for help. I invite them, make them leader and tell them to zone in first. The big red door turns blue after they zone in cause they become the "owner" and then I can reenter to help. Lanceo
I dunno, I destroyed that guy on my Guard. Tank damage isn't supposed to be great. You win battles through attrition, knowing when to pop survivability cooldowns, knowing when to interrupt... and hacking away over time... you are supposed to be a survival specialist, no a damage dealer. Seriously, use interrupts and guard CDs. Buy stims and potions. Get better gear. Come back when you are a higher level and learn a bit more about tank-class mechanics, or bring someone if it comes down to that. * SPOILER? * Only one who has given me a problem was Anrgal. I marked spoiler because I mention that you fight him. Then i figured out that you have to interrupt his abilities and annihilated him on about the 4th or 5th try. thxn
use interrupts..it gives you the upper hand in fights... don't have any. also I am not tank spec. I am vigilance. does guardian regardless of spec just do bad damage compared to sentinel? I only chose this because I prefer 1 handed sabers and I heard it was easier. I don't like tanking. Tank is the specialization of the "Guardian" advanced class. I don't think you'll ever do the damage of a pure DPS class... nor should you. You got some bad advice, from what I can see. I would never pick a tank class off-spec as a main. Edited January 15, 2012 by Lanceo

What level are you? There are a few interrupts you get as a guardian. Now not everything that can interrupt says interrupt. If it knocks them back or down or stuns it also interrupts. Depending on your talent build even your basic Force leap interrupts.
Tsillah
well I will try again. he already did the quest so he can't help. also I have no interrupts unless I got them at 17 - haven't trained anything yet. If he did the same quest, then he is the same class. In your preferences there is a setting that disallows players of the same class in your story areas. This is to make sure that you don't get stuck with decisions of another player in your story. But you can turn this off and then your friend should be able to participate. If he did the quest, that shouldn't matter as far as I know.
demonolithic
Middle tree was funnish to me when I tried the knight in beta. Honestly though I think the best thing to be as a guardian is a tank cause the other trees kinda seemed to be there for when you wanted to PVP as a guardian. I am of the same mind as you though in that I wanted to go single saber dps but in the end I just went full on tank and enjoyed it more because I could not shake the feeling of being sub par on dps. Keeping in mind though that without any combat log I could only go on a feeling and we all know how going on those can be.
Phyrexianist
Okay- I'll say this once. Kite. Slow him... let your companion heal you. Go do more dmg. Don't miss interrupt. Rinse. Repeat. Win. You have a slow, and you can kite him. I did this with ease. Didn't even have to pop a single consumable or defensive cooldown.

thxn
Sounds like it is time to roll a new character. I have a trooper and he was a mistake to. He is a commando or whatever and they heal. People keep telling me what the 'best' is and I am guessing that I am being trolled. What is an easy DPS only class?
