DredlyLB
I'm seeing a lot of guys, especially in PvP threads running Shield/Pyro builds... can anyone give me an example or 2 of this style build? (preferably on torhead, not just numbers - http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301.1 ) How does it work? Pyro is heavily reliant upon the Flame canister, Shield the Ion, do you just switch back and forth a lot?
chainsawsamurai
The only types of mitigation you can 100% rely on in PvP is Expertise and flat Damage Reduction. Armor is the next most reliable as it mitigates Kinetic and Energy damage which are a lot more common than most people realize (a bulk of Sorc/Sage damage output for example). Shield/Defense/Absorb are very unreliable and at least 5/8 classes are almost entirely unaffected by these forms of mitigation (I say at least because Warriors/Knights have a shared DPS tree which focuses on Force attacks and will also bypass these defenses). PvP Mitigation is being talked about a lot here, the PvP forums, and the Public Test forums. There is plenty of information available if you want to know more. The point of the ST/Pyro build (or Carolina Parakeet) in the current state of the game is to run Ion, utilize Guard, and drop all of this unnecessary mitigation for more damage. Essentially streamlining the parts of PvP tanking which don't work in favor of becoming a more efficient killer. There are a few key points of the build which I will outline. The rest of it is fairly flexible. Shieldtech: Jet Charge Flame Shield Shield Vents Neural Overload Ion Overload Pyrotech: Superheated Rail Prototype Particle Accelerator Incendiary Missile Everything else is up to you. To maximize damage there is debate whether 2 points should go into Puncture (Adv Proto) or Flame Surge (Shieldtech). Drop your tank gear (Endurance and Armor are fine). Keep your Shield Generator. Run as much damage as possible. Keep Guard up. Be Awesome.
