SinclaireKreuz
Hi guys, given the broken shield mechanic that the Vanguard currently has, it seems as if the entire Shield Specialist tree has been rendered useless especially when it comes to PVP. I've been doing a bit of thinking and came up with the following skill build: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801hM0MZMsZfIzbdhhMc.1 I know a lot of people will be screaming at the lack of a 31 point skill and if the Assault tree has a decent 31 point skill i would gladly take it but we ended up with a Kinetic skill that gets mitigated to hell. The main synergy of this build is to deal damage primarily through HIB 90% armor penetration and still have some points spread around to soak up damage. Elemental damage is boosted to it's maximum potential through Plasma Cell and through the miracles of Biochem, one could expect tremendous damage output through crits. One thing that i'm unsure about it whether HIB would suffer that that 50% weapon damage mitigation even though it has a 90% armor penetration. Could anyone shine some light on the subject and feel free to comment on the build.
ururururu
taking rebraced armor instead of steely resolve is a major fail. shield spec is still very useful in pvp. guard is amazing. there are plenty of storm/assault builds out there already. rather than theorycraft something I'd look into one of them. Riulassher
Whats broken with it? It doesn't trigger on tech/force attacks, it seems. And if the previous research into mechanic was correct, it will not trigger on critical hits from weapon damage either. SinclaireKreuz
Polished up my build a little and ended up with this. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801hMhMZMsZfIzrzhhM.1 There were a number of posts discussing the effectiveness of Shield Rate in PVP and the verdict is that Tech and Force attacks could not be Shielded, got test it out yourself. Therefore, the purpose of this build is to maintain a certain amount of "Thickness" with Rebraced Armor and Soldier's Endurance. You could easily run in Ion Cell instead of Plasma for the 60% armor boost and Guard with a potential to switch to full DPS-mode with Plasma Cell after getting the medals associated with Guarding. (I usually get most of the Guarding medals within 5 minutes of the match) Your main dps will come from juggling the awesome 90% Armor Penetration HIB and ammo management will largely come from High Friction Bolt and Ionic Accelerator. Late game gear will focus on Crit and Surge to pump out even more devastating DPS. TL;DR Shield broken, points better used on increasing DPS in PVP
ururururu
I get what you are trying to say, but rebraced armor in pvp is pretty bad, and aim is amazing. Most people have rebraced armor for pve reasons. Edited January 10, 2012 by ururururu

ururururu
btw power armor > rebraced armor in pvp.. if you want reduced damage taken. or the 4% ion pulse debuff, that thing is tight.
