  1. If you guys at Bioware happen to read this, know that there is at least one casual gamer here that knows exactly how much effort and pride you've put into this game

If the guys at Bioware read my post, know that there is at least one professional programmer who worked in game development and knows how utterly pathetic and almost criminal your testing procedures are.

If I had to put my name as somebody who built something in the state that you release your updates then I'd be mortified with embarrassment. You can talk about deadlines, poor QA departments, over designed, engine problems, etc but the fact that a scripted quest trigger is bugged for a vast majority of your users and you either missed it or saw it then thought you'd release it anyway is poor.

In fact at this point you should probably hand in your titles as Software Engineers before somebody does you under trade descriptions. You're cowboys spitting out half content to people who don't know any better and taking advantage of the average gamer's dire need to defend things they are personally invested in. Again, I know the pressures that come from above and budgets in these scenarios. I also know that you could do something about it if you gave a ****.

You've got people asking if you're purposely attempting to ruin a 4 year old game. That is how bad this has gotten now.

  2. It could be a console mmorpg or children mmorpg. How can you make a conclusion that this unannounanced mmorpg will be swtor's replacement. There is a possibility that this is case, but you seem to forget that mmorpgs take many years to develop. Wilstar was in 8 years and swtor was in at least 5 years in development. The market could have changed and the mmorpg cancelled like Titan. It could be a first personal shooter mmorpg. The only fact about that job post is that EA is working on a new mmorpg. It's very likely this will be an mmorpg that won't compete with swtor. Until we know exactly what EA is work on, your entirely post is speculative with no hard evidence that this mmropg will affect swtor in anyway.

It's a game developed by the exact studio that develops this game. If this was BW Edmonton it wouldn't matter, the point is that this will absolutely definitely take away resources from SWTOR. BW Austin doesn't have 500 engineers in it, it's a relatively small studio.

The point of the post was to ask how developing a huge new game by the studio specifically setup to develop and maintain SWTOR, will affect SWTOR and it's already criticised content release schedule, then guessed at a few stories pointing to the game moving onto "maintenance mode".

I can see people here have their heads buried in the "nuh-uh" sand so I'll just leave it there thanks and discuss this elsewhere

  3. I wouldn't worry too much.

It's well known that BioWare Canada (can't remember whether Edmonton or Montreal) have been working on a new single player RPG with, if Inquisition and ME3 are anything to go by, a co-op on-line component.

The job posting mentions BioWare/EA make MMOs but does not specify that the posting is for an MMO. An on-line system yes, but it's highly likely it is for the as yet un-named new IP.

It's asking for experience with MMOs, large scale/multi-tier client server technologies and cloud computing based scaling architecture for a new game.

The simplest explanation is that it's an MMO.

  4. They have a job application up on this site, for a Lead Server Engineer for a completely new MMO based on a new IP

    https://career4.successfactors.com/career?career_ns=job_listing&company=EA&navBarLevel=JOB_SEARCH&rcm_site_locale=en_US&career_job_req_id=77183&selected_lang=en_US&jobAlertController_jobAlertId=&jobAlertController_jobAlertName=&_s.crb=KanvmjKq4ThbGd8wV2rIAwGlSE4%3d

One of the major questions that this game has had to endure is what amount of resources are being put into it by BW Austin. You can argue how long it can take to make a new MMO (5 years isn't a poor estimate), but this does mean that at some point over that period their complete focus will shift away from SWTOR even more than it has already done so.

We should also think about why BW Austin would develop a new MMO when they already have a MMO based on an established IP, and whether these will be ran in competition with each other (clue: they won't).

Many have predicted that SWTOR is currently winding down and this is the reason for the lack of multiplayer content, and I think this is probably the first concrete evidence of this from a corporate level.

They of course won't tell us that the game is finishing soon because they'd lost 90% of subs overnight and why bother when they can collect that sub money for as long as possible? Alternatively, with the player base in the way that it is, it does prompt the question of whether they're purposely stifling this game in order to better focus on their next game.

There was a rumour way back when this game first released that said the game was "a five year cycle" then they would reassess the marketplace. That would call the end of the game potentially as December 2016 or so, and if you think of how their story progression/release pattern is going then it makes sense for that to be the last hurrah then put it on maintenance mode afterwards.

  5. My entire ~100 person guild left after the livestream announcing no new multiplayer content this year. Not in a big showy explosive way, they just all started playing other things and now say that they aren't coming back because there's better MMOs out there. Blade and Soul and the Division seem to be the ones they've gone to.

Was hoping this chapter might drag them back in. There's 2 people online and one of them is me.

I've been here since beta and for the first time it really feels like the game is dying. The player numbers just freefell over the past couple of months and it doesn't seem that these things are doing much to help it.

I personally thought the chapter was fine story wise. The animations and graphics are horrendous. During the scene that looks like an homage to Fight Club, the building explosions looked worse than a Steam Greenlight Unity asset flip, it was absolutely terrible. The length was fine for what it is. The lack of control or decisions that matter is irritating and it's the Fallout 4 thing of three decisions - "Yes, Sarcastically Yes, Reluctantly Yes".

I really think BW has dropped the ball here in a big way. This isn't good enough to be a single player game; not on this engine, not with these lack of choices, not with the established play style. It currently isn't being treated as a multiplayer game so nobody who wants those are playing it.

As somebody who has probably invested thousands of pounds into this game and certainly thousands of hours, I'm extremely worried about the future past this story conclusion. I think by the time they wake up to the problems, the player base will have already migrated elsewhere and they won't be interested in coming back.

As I say, I'm not a drama queen about these things but it really does feel like the game is winding up.

  6. Reading is hard =/

This isn't the subreddit. You can't downvote me to the point of censorship and your buddies over there can't post here either.

I don't owe you anything. Nobody does. Nobody owes your guild anything either beyond what the game provides as reward for your conquests and individual achievements.

    Stay classy, Swordy

    So not even 2 then.

Can you have a single person in what you say are thousands and thousands of people who can back up your claim?

Just one guy. This should be the simplest thing possible for you.

  7. I don't have to. People with basic critical thinking skills can tell, given all the information that I've provided, that many of the new players coming in from TFA, who don't even know what class specs are, will not know what the raids are.

I don't know all those people. I haven't stood on Fleet like a Wal-Mart greeter.

I have plenty of other things to do, like being better at PvP and GSF than your entire guild put together and enjoying the story of this game that I enjoy.

You're only proving my point about why small guilds like yours are not the backbone of the game. The game is succeeding in spite of you, not because of you.

Ok you say thousands don't know what Ops are, but you can't actually provide 10?

You cannot provide 10 people in a point that you say is backed by thousands?

    Can you even provide 2?

  8. Not anymore. I am not going to waste my time on a "forum" completely taken over by salty people who aren't even playing the game anymore.

You call yourselves royalty and that the community depends so much on you, but for all your "leadership" nobody seemed to be following you did they?

The population has more than weathered the "mass exodus" of the salty raiders, especially with the movie.

Bad news, the story chapters they're releasing will be in the more exciting rising action and climax parts of the plot. Your "argument" will be further out of touch with reality than it already is.

Funny, I'm in a guild with 180 active accounts who won conquest last week and ran several nightmare raids this week. All because we are a raiding guild.

I'm sure all of those people are also wrong and don't play the game.

  9. Shadowlands still unavailable, looks like we're not alone. I understand that these things don't always get fixed right away but FFS devs, at least throw something on the site here or on Twitter about how you're at least aware that no one can play your game.

Not having a solution yet is understandable. Being unaware that a problem even exists...not a great look.

    It's a Sunday.

The only guys left in the server room have a mop in their hand.

  10. Would it ever be feasible to release content creation tools to crowdsource group content which BW could add suitable ones to the game in a non-canon section? Surely fan made group content which you can look over and add is better than no raid content? Guilds are dying without Ops content, we can't keep players when there's so many other big title games recently released and there's no content for longer term players here.

Many games out there live on community generated content for years. You must have the content generation tools in house that could be polished and obviously will have to be adapted but it has to be technically feasible on some level. Even if it's a MArio Maker type system using assets already in the game. You already used to have a system of power users in the community that were intended to work as a filter or shield and added with BW oversight then community content packs could be moderated correctly..

It must be a workable system if people really try and it will keep the non-canon content moving forward for ages. We can't go on with the lack of Ops content. People can't run the same raid for 12 months at a time, even if that raid is updated to a new level.

You're killing us BW. Nobody WANTS to stop playing the game, they just feel they've completed it.

  11. First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the dev team for what is a superb piece of work.

The main story boss fight is broken, the Stronghold system is broken, GSF is broken, various classes report themselves to be vastly overpowered in similar gear, every raid is currently broken in some form, the server has issues with lag.

I'm a Software Engineer and have experience in the game development industry, so understand that not everything will go according to plan. However, I would be ashamed to put my name to this as a product. The QA procedures at that studio must be non-existent and on a community stream recently they strongly implied that pre-order dates are not release dates and they are viewed internally as yet another beta period.

I enjoy the game socially and think that the story aspects are good, but from a professional standpoint some of these bugs are almost comical in how widespread they are. They have managed to break almost every facet of the game and the whispers about their poor testing procedures have yet another example.

There is a difference between congratulating people on a job well done and being a fanboy and your post is in the latter. This is not a well developed product by any stretch of the imagination.

  12. Oh I too have experinced this... I took my geared lvl 55 Assassin to Black Hole to do Torvix on Monday and loved it, then returned yesterday and almost died in EVERY fight... Yes I set my skills, checked my armor rating, had my buffs, and a stim but still my lvl 55 character was getting owned by lvl 50 NPCs... pathetic... couple that with the other Hutt-sized failures of this update and the result... I am taking my subsciption to a game that might be fun to play... so long SWTOR and Bioware!!!

    Can I have your gear?

  13. the only negative thing i have to say about the trailer its: indeed the saber is horrible, forked? fine they existed but not even the sound is the issue is the blade shacking like hell, even sabers from original movies on my sight are better, i hope its only character specific, or other explanation like the guy built the saber is a very bad conditions and inst perfect, otherwise if the other sabers are like that then i think that will be negative fr the movie, this movie needs to be nearly perfect so people have will to go more then once watch it. just my opinion nothing more

No movie is nearly perfect and asking for such is asking to be let down

The badly constructed lightsaber makes sense if the Imperial Remnant is still a thing. There's no-one to teach them how to properly make a lightsaber and it could be exhaust venting from the chamber. A visual representation of the legacy of the Sith and how the new generation is having to start from scratch.

I was around when the double bladed lightsaber was first shown and people absolutely hated that aswell after seeing it for 3 seconds. Now its well established and one of people's favourite weapons.

My point before which stands now is that nobody has any idea what anything in this movie is and we've seen a highly edited 90 seconds of a 2 hour plus film. Saying it's a bit early to throw the whole thing out and say how crap it is should be self evident.

  14. Is there a point to your comment or is it just to insult? Are we not discussing the trailer by talking about one of the most prominent things from it?

    Oh yeah:

Will not watch though. Movie looks like crap.

I'm sure that is a well reasoned debating point reached after a long thought process based on a 90 second clip of a 2 hour plus film.
