  1. I'm not an angry person.. I understand Bio / EA's reasoning behind the "waves"... They want their little gold star on the rare "MMO's with a clean, smooth launch" posterboard, especially one of this magnitude.

I just can't see how they couldn't have planned to be doing more for their pre-order customer base at a faster pace.

In having open beta / stress testing, they have been aware of what their servers can handle. Couple that with knowing how many preorder's they had and assuming 90% of them would be online today wanting to play (always overshoot!) - and I'm left wondering how they couldn't project they would need more servers to be opened than clearly what they've done today, with supposedly only one more wave left for today...

Yes, staggering entry is great for stability - not so good for friends wanting to log in and play together from the start... Great for boasting to the game development community about their smooth launch - not so great for pre-ordering customers from july & august who assumed they would be on board and playing by now, who may have possibly taken time off work, or at least scheduled themselves accordinly...

And what IS the deal with only one more wave? Are you all just going to go home early, and call it a day while the swarms of game-thirsty players chomp at the bit pawing at the login gates hopelessly? It's not like you don't have additional servers already in place to open and allow additional room & access, right?.. I mean, you're not having them FED-EX'd to you tonight for tomorrow's waves? (lol)...

And again, I come back to the knowledge you've had for months about the number of preorders patiently waiting these past several months.

Should you not have your entire team working around the clock to open servers, and have waves more often than once an hour, and more than just 4 in total today?

... Before all of the happily contented popcorn eaters sling their "crybaby's" at me, let me first freely admit to it before you do so. Yes, I'm a crybaby. I wanted to be playing today, and (apparently) mistakenly assumed Bioware / EA would be handling things so that a JULY 26 code-entery customer could be doing so.. (silly me!)..

And I also freely admit that had I been accepted already, I wouldn't be here moaning, and instead smiling, clicking my keys and mouse, enjoying the flashing lights, without a care for those I left behind on the forums... But well... here I find myself, with nothing better to do while waiting for wave 4 in an uneasy desperation, flabberghasted at how this early access wasn't handled in a speedier, efficient, and wider-ranging manner given everything they've known about up to this point.

/crymode off... time to make a sammich.. fingers crossed, but hope levels @ under 10%.

  2. You guys knew how many preorders you had before today.

You've spent more money producing this game than any MMO to date.

"We're already seeing fairly full servers" ... ?

    WHY?

You know how many people can fit in your servers, what did you even do open beta / stress testing for?

4 waves planned?... Wow, thanks for NOT planning for EVERYONE who pre-ordered your game. What a complete, utter, total letdown.

I registered my code the 26th, and was totally confident I'd be playing by now, confident in your company's ability to handle your KNOWN pre-ordering customer base for MONTHS now for the early access.

The very least you could do is explain, in more detail, the why / what / when's of this mysterious, clouded entry to early access via waves.

    Completely disheartening.

  3. Question:

In the pre-order email I received, I quote the following:

Early Game Access will begin on December 13th at 7:00AM EST, 2011 and ends on December 19th, 2011 at 10:01PM EST

By them saying it will "end" on the 19th @ 10pm, coupled with the idea that the game is supposed to be launching on the 20th (presumably @ 12am / midnight?)

Doesn't that mean the servers will come down for 2 hours anyways, and all of this early entry staggering is kind of a moot point?

Do they plan on staggering the whole of their playerbase come the 20th over a week too? That's not going to fly...

    Any insight here?

  4. Nobody should expect that... the surge will be huge, and they need to spread things out so there aren't 1000+ people trying to run around on each starter planet concurrently.

These worlds consist of a large cluster of very expensive servers each, and they need to make good use of that hardware, spreading player levels over time to help balance that load across all planets on each world (and the whole cluster of servers for that world). If they have 2 million pre-orders and wanted to allow everyone to rush the gates all at once, they'd probably need like 1000 worlds (not 107). Then, post-launch, they'd have massive server mergers once the excitement died down (because once players spread out past the starting planets, each of those worlds would feel too empty).

Even just the Day 1 rush will be huge (although perhaps they'll finish that up by the end of today). Didn't they have like 350K pre-orders on July 21st?

Kudos to them for spreading things out, hopefully keeping the launch smooth. I don't expect to get in until maybe Saturday, but that's OK. My kids won't be joining me until Tuesday ;).

    Khafar

and just what do you suppose they're going to do for the launch on the 20th, AFTER they take the servers down at 22:00 for the 00:00 launch (as they have mentioned they would be doing)?.. Gonna make EVERYONE playing at launch (both pre-orders and non pre-orders) come in waves over a week or two?..

  5. Dear BW,

Long time customer, first time poster. In all my years of supporting and playing your games I have never been more confused by your actions then right now. First off, you have been holding onto our money for 6 months and yet to provide a service to us. So giving a statement like "That's about as specific as we're going to get right now." is a straight kick in the balls to all of your obvious loyal community so far. There are people that have taken off time from work for this. People that have not slept ect. At the very least you OWE them a bit more of an accurate timeline. Early access is a gift.... ok. Tell me that when I can finally log in and my mates are 10-20 levels higher then I am.

Secondly, you doing this in waves is actually an illogical move. You have no idea what sells will be like on launch come the 20th. You "could" end up with 10 times what the pre-sales have been. So because you are taking us in on waves.... doesn't test your over all capability. With that being said, we expect server crashes and stuff on early access. This is the final chance for you to test server stability and your pissing all over the opportunity while at the same time on us.

Thirdly, just because I want to throw this in there. *** were you thinking going with EA. FAIL FAIL FAIL... the dumb *** that decided that needs to be fired. This is the LAST game I will ever purchase with EA.

    Sincerely,

    Confused and unhappy BW customer.

    *nod* ... Agreed

  6. they could easily handle everyone at once, its about money tho, they want to have as few servers as possible to save money, remember EA owns them now.

Riiiiiight, so they spend a multitude of thousands on voice acting - even for obscure quest NPC's that a majority of players will never even speak to!

  7. EA / Bioware: Spend the most money producing this MMO of any MMO to date.

Yet, can't handle their pre-order customer load on early access (day 1) within 3 hours?

    .... wow.........

You say it's to monitor server load / stability...

We are to believe that wasn't accomplished during open beta & stress testing?... Have you not been aware of exactly how many pre-orders you've had between july-november for months now? (cumulatively, anyway...)..?

You didn't project how many servers or how much support you would need to handle your faithful PRE-ORDER customers?

I've never seen this before, and let me say, it does not speak well for things to come.

Strike 1 and I havn't even logged in yet.

  8. I don't understand how in knowing how many preorders they had between July and November for ... well.. months now, cumulatively - they couldn't have been more prepared to let the vast majority of preorders in the first day - even the november / december people.

the whole "wave" thing in diminishing server load / impact is a moot point on the 19th - since they've said they're taking the servers down @ 22:00 for the official launch @ 00:00 on the 20th..

What? Are they going to force everyone both having been in early access and those who weren't to all join in 2 hour waves over a few days too?

Good luck having that go over well. Good luck not immediately losing a palpable chunk of interest, enthusiasm, and excitement over that..

Shoot, this whole early access rolling entry thing isn't going over well with a great many people already. I would have never thought a company like Bioware/EA who has spent the most amount of money on any MMORPG production to date would not be capable of handling their PRE-ORDER customers within 3 hours on early-launch day.

    Makes no sense.
