  1. Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I just wanted to share my personal opinion about the removal of Renown in the 7.0 Legacy of the Sith expansion.

    <snip>

    I really miss Renown.

I started playing in January 2022, and since then, I've gotten 3 characters leveled up to 80 and maxed my Legacy levels. Renown was something to do after everything was maxed out. It was a way to track my progress and see how far I'd come since the start. Now that's gone and it just seems like... I'm done. All the things I do from here on out aren't earning anything.

    <snip>

    Thanks!

    @Keith

    Hello SWTOR Community,

    <snip>

SWTOR is a ten year old game that is very dear to all of us, and we look forward to continuing the journey of a series of updates to make the game the best it can be.

    - Keith

... please take note there are quite a few of us that value renown. For me it meant an option to getting 296+ mods

I felt so strongly about it I canned my Subscription, and I don't see the point in the end-game content now.

    Please bring it back

  2. I'm a gluten for punishment.

Tried the heroic Alderaan set just for laughs. Pre 7.0 wasn't easy but doable, now it's just a long slow slog.

Why am I doing this? I used to enjoy this game... now I'm hating it the more I play.

Thanks BW ... thanks for nothing!

  3. Perhaps the most frustrating thing about 7.0 is how many things people enjoyed that were removed without a quality replacement.

Renown crates were cool. They were a small reward but at least they made you feel like you were always making progress no matter what you did.

100% yes ... and is why I cancelled my subscription. I was getting L290+ mod drops which for my cap'd toons (I don't craft and don't have heaps of coin to buy on the GTN) meant a hell of a big difference

the renown system has a lot off good points what really needs to return in for my part a new system that not most been remove again after 1 year or later but most stay more for good.

1: you have something to do with you max level chars all is it there reach max level all in the class story's more in chapter 3 all.

I use to take my spare time and play my L75 toons through the KotET content and beyond because it felt like my toons were progressing. The story line was OK and the Renown crates dropped mods that my toon could use.

Now days I find playing BackGammon more enjoyable.

I'll drop to a preferred unsubscribed player. Once a week I'll play with my guild mates, but more for my mates not because I'm enjoying the game now. Once we complete Corellia and cap out our levels and complete the class story arc there is nothing there to entice me further into the game.

Thank  BW  for wrecking the game for me

  4. ...

When I heard Renown was going away, I wondered what they were going to replace it with. Nothing. The answer is Nothing.

Now, I consider this a mistake. Once you hit level cap, you... well, you don't get to level any more. Obviously. However, having Renown to work towards, and of course achieving a Renown Rank Up gave us regular 'Dings' to work for and look forward to.

Yep the fun of the game for me (past Level Cap) has just evaporated.

I enjoy the story line but getting Renown-XP (RXP) was what kept me coming back to KotET and beyond. Renown Level crates was also giving me L294+ mods ... and for me crafting (I don't have the time to craft or the inclination to decipher it's complexities) and the GTN (with the prices way over blown, and it's taken me 2 years to acquire $20M in Legacy which would be lucky to buy 1 high end mod) are just not an option. Those crates and equipment upgrades made Star Fortress runs a lot more doable.

If you are going to take that away then FFS BW replace it with something that makes us want to keep playing.

Anyway I'm now enjoying "https://cardgames.io/mahjong/" more than I do SWTOR (which is sad) ... so I've cancelled my subscription. BW can take a flying leap as far as I'm concerned unless they want to do something that makes the game enjoyable again

  5. ...

People want to play the way they feel like, not be shoehorned into certain content! IT ISN'T FUN!!!

    ...

    Pretty much !

I want to play Revan, KotET & KotFE ... and ENJOY it!

I use to enjoy it under 6.0.

I do NOT enjoy it under 7.0.

I want to be able to level up and score 290+ equipment crates (I know there are guys out there that think anything less than 310 is trash). I don't play for Ops I play for the story line and that 294-296 kit drops make my toon more resilient. I respect those that want top do Ops (I may want to myself one day); for now though if I have an hour to spare I want to hop on to SWTOR progress my story line a little and get better kit for my toons.

With Renown level up I was getting consistent kit drops of mods in the mid 290's. I was enjoying the new Mando-rebellion story line, and whilst I wish Malgus would stay dead was looking forward to more story there as well.

Now I can't be bothered going through the content. When I get to L80 at Correlia I ask myself, why go any further, the story line is nice but I've done it before, and I'm not getting the renown level up crates so why bother?

Consequently I've can'd my subscription renewal. If there is nothing to replace renown and bring back the fun for me ... I'm done!

It was fun whilst it lasted

  6. ...

Not only does the launch of Legacy of the Sith begin the journey into updating the game, but this update also opens the doors to new players who have never experienced SWTOR before. 7.0 is meant to invite new players to the game while also bringing new experiences to returning and veteran players.

    ...

    - Keith

    HI Keith,

so you know a little bit more about your player Demographic.

    • I've been playing for 3+ Years (subscribed for 2+ now I think), and have played through all 8 classes
    • I'm a PVE rather than PVP and in a GMT +10h Time-zone
    • I find crafting overly complicated with out access to a simple set of instructions, so just can't be bothered crafting. So as I have no mechanism to earn coin outside of combat, and I've only got about 20M in total across my legacy, most of the "good" gear in GTN is out of reach.
    • Hence I rely on fleet and in-game acquired "mod-boosts" (Armour/barrel + Mods + Enhancements)
    • I play weekly with a small group of friends (Private guild) where we take start up toons through Class story lines up to Correlia and then start again.
    • I was then taking these L75 start up toons through Hutt, Revan, KotET/KotFE story lines

I enjoy the story lines; but having gone through these now several times what keeps me coming back is the 290+ Armour/barrel + Mods + Enhancements drops during renown level increases (...and if I'm honest the psychological reward that the toon has advanced another level albeit it a potentially meaning less number) .

It may sound Crazy but renown levels and it's crates was what kept me going with the High-Level toons. I've tried playing since but the desire to play has dropped right off; and it's sort of stopped being fun.

Unless there is something that rewards playing beyond Correllia and L80 through to the new content I won't get there. More importantly if there is nothing that entices me to keep playing why am I subscribing?

If there is a viable alternative reward to renown I'm all ears ... but I just don't see it. My subscription expires in May, I will be cancelling my auto renewal when I get a free moment; if you decide to fix / revisit incentives for player progression, I'll be more than happy to rejoin ... otherwise it's been fun (until now) I guess

    Regards,

    Nath Legacy

  7. Just to add a bit more ...

    1. sometimes the fun bits are not that expensive, the sassy dialogue of my smuggler has brought a smile to my dial many times, whether as a flirt or as a out and out 1 liner put down
    2. Getting things removed, for me the pertinent example (although others may disagree) is renown and the renown level-up crates is a disappointment and a let-down.

If you can turn around and say yes we may have ditched renown but we now have this new "you-beaut" way of rewarding you and tracking (Measuring) your experience gains that will want to make you keep playing way beyond level cap, I am all ears. At the moment though I'm not seeing that

I feel renown should not be a big deal, but at the moment there is nothing enticing me to play beyond Level cap (unless I'm missing Something) despite some reasonable story lines and getting some great companions. If I'm not going to play beyond cap, then why should I bother subscribing?

  8. ...

The team has been working on fixing bugs that are being reported as well as making adjustments to improve players’ experiences.

    ...

    Thank you,

    Jackie

I'm a subscriber (but may be not for long), a solo-player who doesn't craft and does not have funds to afford purchases on the GTN. So have been reliant of the renown Level-Up crate drops. Renown level up have also motivated me to keep playing once my toon gets above L80.

    • With v6 it was enjoyable and I looked for every opportunity to hop on with my L75+ toons
    • With v7 I just can't be bothered playing and now have no desire to proceed further with L80 Toons (I have not played in the last 2 weeks since I realized what was happening)
    • I'm asking myself why bother sub-scribing; is in fact the game still worth playing?

There is goodness in v7; as the LoadOuts and secondary skill-set are good. It made a toon that I thought was under-powered and a write off outside of guild play useful once I set it up with sniper skills.

The rest of v7 though (loss of renown with no real goal to progress a toon) and potentially less healing from Companions whilst getting stunned repeatedly and waiting on your own cool downs for interrupts. I used to be able to solo the Heroic Star-Fortresses .. .I don't think I could do that now

Please reverse some of these things. I'd like to get back to enjoying the game ... I DO NOT enjoy the game at the moment.

  9. If by "die" you mean "unsubscribe and stop playing"

6.0 - "Play the way you want."

7.0 - "You will own nothing and you will be unhappy."

    Agree with the general sentiment

I'm a solo non-crafting (with not enough cash to use on the GTN) player. I have also been a subscriber for over a year now.

I loved playing and would be on almost every night. Now aside from our guild night when the 4 of us are on I have not played in the last 2 weeks.

The desire to expand my L80+ toons and play the KOTEE+KOTFE content has gone.

Now I'm asking myself why bother subscribing.

  10. I'm a Solo player who also plays in a guild of friends. I play PVE not PVP and I do not craft; and do not have the creds to splash out on kit in the Galactic Market (so am dependent on in game drops). I'm also a subscriber.

    A couple of things:

    1. Load-outs are nice ... the Smuggler I was playing with the guild I can now continue with as she is much more playable as a sniper :D
    2. With the loss of renown I don't see any real point in going beyond L80 which means I can't see the point of KOTEE and KOTFE content
      • no renown leveling up means I don't get the L290+ equipment drops that I was getting in the renown crates.

      • Also whats the point of character advancement, maybe it was a meaningless number to some but not to me

      • leveling up and getting the crates meant something to me, and helped me push past some of the content I was not enamored with (Iokath)

The removal of renown without something better (or even equivalent) in it's place is really, REALLY BLOODY ANNOYING. Now I'm not sure I want to play beyond L80; and am thinking why bother subscribing

Also whilst I'm having a bit of a Rant. why is everything so expensive in Cartel Coins If it improves your toons attacks and defense then fair enough; but 1-3K coin for a cosmetic or cute speeder ... REALLY? As a subscriber 500 Cartel coin a month does not "cut the mustard" If you want to keep subscribers then look at ways to make them feel genuinely rewarded.

At the moment I don't feel valued.

  11. ... understand your point, that the removal of the renown system is now a less rewarding game-play.

I guess that is my main point and what I feel let down on.

I confess though I'm one who leaps on and skips past release notes assuming that they are enhancements rather than a downgrade. I tend to come to the forum when I need to dig out some info or find out what-the-hell I'm doing wrong. Not paying attention to release notes in some respects is my fault, but even if I had realized and complained at that point it would have done nothing much. I just feel let down by SWTOR for pulling it and not having something else.

On a + side the load-outs aren't bad. I had a smuggler that was a bit underwhelming, that I was going to ditch after Corellia when the Guild I'm with create new toons; but I also like her attitude and sassy dialogue with NPCs. So specking her as a sniper made her a lot more playable.

  12. Well, I like the Renown system. I know some of you don't.

Renown is removed in 7.0, fine. But will it be replaced by a new system? A kind of "progression" with levels, with or sithout specific rewards (crates), which for some us gives a feeling of progression, making end game as a casual player more fun than many other mmo of the market.

    Thanks for your comments

Whole heartily agree ! It's why I did KOTEE and KOTFE and the post Odessan quests. The Illusion of Character progression and the Renown crate drops on Level where you got mods or Kit, that could only be better if you crafted or had enough coin to use the Galactic Market place (I don't craft and with 20M in Legacy coin over 2 years of playing) the market place doesn't give me much I can afford.

removing it and giving no incentive to play beyond L80 is a dumb move

  13. I have no sympathy for people in this situation. There was plenty of adequate notification about the changes to renown. It was right here in teh forums, for several weeks, you just didn't bother to educate yourself.

Some people with limited time play the game rather than surf the forums. It's not unreasonable to get compensation for things that are removed. Especially if you have a subscription and have spent a lot of time acquiring those items.

Also without renown what's the point in doing KOFTE or anything beyond the initial story arc one you've hit L80. Personally I'm quite pissed off at the removal of renown, unless there has been something else that has come along for us that I am unaware of.

I was enjoying the expanding arc over the last couple of years, but am now asking why bother? The next question will be why bother subscribing?

  14. Renown was a nice endgame system, especially for solo players. It gave us something after the level cap and I liked that the game didn't keep raising the level cap the way some games do. I'm really annoyed right now that all my renown ranks are gone to nothing, not even credit towards levels or transferred into gift boxes or currency.

As a solo player too ... I whole heartedly agree!

  15. Yep I'm getting Peeved by not having Renown. Less incentive to go through the KOFTE arc. I was pushing Renown level 80+ and getting the Renown Chest drops gave reasonable Equipment Mod drops every now and then I was getting L290-L294 drops.

I can't be bothered with crafting so the renown and end-of-quest drops make a difference, and I noted quality seemed to scale with renown level.

If upgrades don't drop then why go past L80 ???

  16. So attack 7 on the Tool Bar (after missiles are loaded) is enabled

    HOMING MISSILE

    Cooldown : 10s

    Range :50m

Locks on to any target within range, firing multiple missiles that home in on the targets.

except it doesn't do any thing. I stand 35-40m away from an enemy group (Highlight 1 in the middle and verify the range) ... hit the "Homing Missile" key and like the Millennium Falcon's Hyper-drive lever ... I get nothing.

Any ideas ? Is this a genuine bug .. .or is the description incorrect?

    Addendum ...

I tried it again whilst I was in the middle of a fight and it worked. So yes I guess it does work just not as the tactical notes on the key says it does. Which is still a bug in my books ... albeit a doco bug.

  17. So we've been taking a Guild member through the Revan set of quests.

The story here is I've done the Revan arc before but my friend hasn't.

The prelude & Flashpoint quests we got through OK. Manaan worked fine as did the Rakata FP. We hoped on his star ship and got him to kick off Rishi. When exiting his ship he was on Rishi but I was back at the fleet. So I brought up the galaxy map and traveled there. Trouble is now I seems to be locked out of his content. For instance at the start when you go to the cantina and have the fight with Gorro, my friend goes in but the the door stays red for me and I can't enter!

Is there anyway I can share in his quests?

  18. Apart from changing from the streaming client to the non-streaming one https://answers.ea.com/t5/Troubleshooting-Guides-Info/Guide-How-to-Switch-to-Non-Streaming-Launcher/td-p/4867417, changing the compatibility settings seems to help.

    Hi Khaleijo,

Thanks for that . However, I actually found the following in another thread first

... then open the launcher.settings file in Notepad. Look for the following line:

    , "bitraider_disable": false

    and change this to

    , "bitraider_disable": "false"

I also started the game as admin (just in case) and it kicked off a full download. Anyway several hours later the download completes and the game works ! Well until I discover the next bug!

    Thanks everyone and happy gaming!

  19. Hi dudes and dudettes,

as the subject line suggests, after the recent update (I believe update 6.2 just hit) my Level-75 toons are frozen out and the only option is to start a new toon on starter planets. The trouble is after 6-7 hours now the download counter is still at 0.00%, which to me indicates there is a problem somewhere?

Is anyone else getting this? Is there a work around? I'm almost thinking of doing a re-install and hoping I don't loose any of my UI customizations. ( I'm assuming the UI Config is stored off site on my account and not in local files)
