  1. This is simple. The One Ring was forged by Saurmon in the fires of Mt Doom. It can only be destroyed by the fires of mount doom. However, The DEATH STAR CAN BLOW UP MIDDLE EARTH !

So simply put, DEATH STAR ARE YOU FRICKIN KIDDING ME ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE.

You haven't read this thread have you? Or you know, know anything about LOTR lore?

  2. I think I disagree with Jerry. After Arda became round*, Valinor isn't any longer part of the planet. Its unclear if it is another planet/moon now or if it just floats there in space.

The Valar seem very comparable to the Ones from the Mortis arc in The Clone Wars. They are definitly magical entities = Force entities, so I think the Death Star wouldn't affect them. ("The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.") It wouldn't completely destroy Maiar like Sauron either, I guess. Sauron's spirit escaped from Numenor** after all, so he might be lingering around in space an it might even be easier for him to find the ring, which is also floating around in space.

But what if some Jedi (many Jedi) created a permanent Wall of Light around the Ring? Would it become useless for Sauron, because he couldn't connect with it anymore?

*For those who haven't read it: the World with middle earth on it was once flat. But then some humans wanted to conquere Valinor because there the immortal Valar and Elves were living and they thought they could steal Immortality from them. Iluvatar (=God) buried them under some mountains, sunk their home (the Island Numenor) into the sea and removed Valinor from Arda, while giving Arda planet shape.

**Sauron was on Numenor during this time. He fell into the abyss and his physical form was destroyed. But his spirit got out of it, taking the ring with him.

Interesting. The discussion didn't continue on much passed Jerry putting that in the FB thread so I'm going to defer to the two of you if this question ever swings my way again. Been way too long since I've kept up on LOTR continuity with the EU stuff.

  3. As demonstrated in LoTR where that girl kills that dude, magic is worded very specifically. So if the ring was forged with magic that talked about "any craft that we here possess" then yes the Death Star probably could destroy it, because the magic would not have been created to defend from that type of power.

In fact a standard laser could probably have destroyed it.

If the creation magic was "Only there can it be unmade" then the ring would be quite safe.

Lucky for the One Ring creation was "only there can it be unmade" :)

However, a friend of mine schooled me on LOTR lore when I posted this thread on my FB. Basically if the planet was destroyed, than that means the Maia and Valur (sp?) would also be destroyed. Hence the Sauron is dead, the ring is now just a gold ring. His soul/power no longer inhabits a portion of the ring. A second shot would take the ring itself. I'll repost that info here in an edit.

    EDIT: [My friend Jerry]

i consider myself a Tolkien master and i will have to say that when the world was created in the Silmarillion, it was created by music, making the possibility for a deathstar to be made impossible, due to the lack of nuclear material necessary to power it. but if we where to cross realities, then we have to take in the fact that Ea is a planet while the Deathstar is a planet destoyer, and without the existence of the planet, the Valar would not exist, and if Aule dies, then sauron dies, no matter what. plus, there is no space defence on either Middle-Earth or Aman. thus, Deathstar>One Ring

the ring is a hoarcrux, and it has a spell that makes it indestructible except for the fires in which forged it, for they are the hottest fires in all of Ea. yet the existence of the Maiar is dependent on the existence of the Valar they served and who created them. in the Silmarillion, Eru, the father of the Valar, stated that if Ea should break, then all life would end. if Aule should die, so would Sauron, and the one ring would just be a piece of gold floating around in space. Deathstar>One Ring [/My Friend Jerry]

  4. The would help us on only against a few abilities though. There are far more issues with force/internal/elemental powers out there that outright bypass all of our defenses.
  5. Sure it's not, but why would a tank want to use critical augments? When they should be stacking on Endurance or Defense? If you want to go the other way that's fine, just be sure your doing it with the proper setup

    That's just small minded.

You're better off asking for tank stats to matter more in PvP. End/Def can only go so far in actually being useful. When almost every attack goes through straight to my HP then I'd at least like be able to do some damage back. I'm plenty useful as a tank. Guard switching, Cryogrenade, Harpoon, stun, taunts. None of those are affected greatly by my gear. /shrug

Balance > mandatory gear. This isn't vanilla WoW where you roll on my Warlocks T0 gear as a rogue and get laughed at because it's useless to you. This game offers variety and demands it in PvP where most of my stats are not that useful.

  6. No, I'm saying stick to your spec and use it as it was intended, if you want to dps, play a dps spec with dps gear, don't go around and use dps gear when you should be tanking for your team, your not helping your just making matters worse, a tanking spec should not be wearing dps gear or vise versa.

I realize critical chance always has the advantage over shield chance which is unfortunate for tanks, but until bioware can come up with something where balance is no longer a problem for tanks, it's best to stay the course that we were assigned too.

I could see you being insulted if gear dropped at the end of a match and a tank rolled need for the gear over a DPS that actually needs it, however, this is just sad. I can tank in DPS gear for PvP and I can tank in tank gear for PvP. With DPS I can actually help my team kill people vs just standing there and only guard switching and using Harpoon when it's off CD.

  7. My issue is that usually OW PvP is usually a gank situation in which case at least the companion can keep the mobs off me while I deal with the player. Otherwise it's two to three mobs + the ganking player. Of course I play a Vanguard so I'm screwed vs anyone that is willing to attack me while I'm not busy. And I suck playing my healer sage in any kind of OW PvP while I'm solo.

It goes *some kind of stun ---> dead* My companion at least gives me a chance. Then again with all the lolsmashers out there it doesn't really matter what I play unless it's also a lolsmasher, which is at level 16 right now.

You guys say that this will bring open world pvp back to life, but really, most people would use it to gank a LOT more than they do now. It's the way people are.

Though I totally agree with getting Merc Comms if you kill someone. Definitely agree with some kind of reward system. That would definitely help OW PvP revive.

  8. I thought that the only reason it had to be in Mt. Doom was because that's where it was forged. They didn't say (that I remember) anything about the heat. So technically the Deathstar could do whatever it wants and the one ring will just float with the debris until Luke finds it and uses it.

Edit: So if the One Ring is with Smeegal at the time of the Deathstars arrival than it would be fine as they were no where near Mount Doom. No Mt Doom, no destroyed ring. It's a magic/metaphysics thing. One Ring > Deathstar

  9. My issue playing a DS Consular (polar opposite to my LS trooper) is that, as stated before, no one cares that I'm a complete c*nt to people.

"Oh, why did you kill that guy?"

"Cause I figure it was easier, he was evil."

    "Well damn."

And that's it. No real scolding or issues with me systematically taking out powerful Jedi even though I was sent to shield them. I was able to handle Yuon on Cor no problem, but that's only cause it wouldn't let me kill her there. /shrug Honestly that's my complaint. No one cares that I'm obviously falling DS.

  10. If we're talking along a more real world style, technically I'm already grey.

However, if the force were real than I'd probably be a bit more like Cade Skywalker. Leave the F* alone but would totally use darkside abilities to save those closest to me and hunt down the basterds that endangered them. I have a few friends IRL that would be my balancing act and would fight to bring me back to the light.

  11. Having just finished Balmorra with my Vanguard, I'm a little surprised to not see Tanno Vik's name popping up in this topic as of yet. I know Havoc Squad only accepts "the best", but really, if "the best" is a freaking sociopath, I think it'd be okay to settle for number two, just this once.

Yeah, I'm can't stand the guy. Guess who sits on the bench and is my Underworld/Armortech lacky.

  12. Yeah, if you want gear now, just PvP and get the WH tank set for your class and then augment it. It's decent gear and you can start learning to tank on HM FPs and other OPs. I've been a tank for years in various games and jumping straight from DPS (that you think is 'ok') to full geared HM TFB tank is going to be very difficult and cost some deaths for those carrying you.
