  1. The only place you can see the debuffs you put on something is on the unit frame. There's no way (that I can find) to have them over the nameplates.

You can change how the unit frame shows you debuffs in the interface editor. Open it and click on the Target Frame. There you can change the layout of the buffs/debuffs, including size and different ways to sort them. Unfortunately, unlike the player buffs/debuffs, target ones are tied to the unit frame and can't be moved.

thank you. I'm not sure what the "unit frame" is though. sorry.

  2. I am playing a hatred assassin, a big part of what I do is damage over time. I can't seem to see any visual representation of the effects though, so I'm never sure when to reapply.

At the moment it's not that big of a deal as I rarely fight anything where it doesn't die really fast anyway, but when I start doing harder content I'm gonna need to know when to reapply my DOTS.

Is it a case of just learning a rotation and sticking to that, or is there any ways past counting in your head or using a metronome to time these dots right? I mean surely there should be some visual cue as well? am I just missing it?

if it doesn't exist or is hard to spot, is there any way to augment it. can we use plug in's in this game?

  3. I started playing recently, I'm into the dark side so will mostly be playing Empire characters, although I will be making some Blues as well.

(I just started playing the game so I wasn't sure if there was a guild sub forum or something, I did try looking before posting this, so hopefully I found the right section.)

I am looking for a guild that is more social than anything as I'm still just levelling my characters and I'm raiding or anything yet. The Darkside/Sith name is must though. It doesn't have to be super serious/edgy, just thematic of the dark side, humour is welcome.

I'm a sub, will probably be playing quite a lot so will be active. I probably talk a little too much if anything in chat so might need telling to shut up. LoL.

I'm actually in a guild right now as I just joined the first guild that invited me to get some advice, but I don't know anyone there so I can just leave as soon as I find a more permanent home.

I am currently levelling a hatred assassin and a vengeance juggernaut, next will probably be bounty hunter. I have no problem playing tank and healer, although I will have to learn first in order to be any good at it.

  4. Yes, no CCs, save them for subs and sales ;-)

You use Outfit Designer, so you have one tab for your main Armour ... and one for your "look"

    This video will help.

You need to spend VERY little on this game, you can get most of what you want or need from the GTN, for now, use the stuff you pick up ... and take your time.

I choose when to spend real money on the game, I don't have to :-)

P.S. I PMed you, don't worry, nothing spammy

hey dude... what crafting skills would be best to take for a sith hatred assassin, please? I was thinking of getting synthweave maybe so I can make robes, or am I better off just farming for credits and buying gear from the auction house?

I don't want to pick anything till I know for sure what my best route will be.

    thanks.

  5. Hi,

    Welcome to the game.

FYI, you can get a very close version of bobba fett's armour.

When you are able to use your Fleet Pass, to go to the Fleet, look at the map and go to the Cartel Bazaar, for imperial, it at the bottom center of map.

Go to the lift, when you arrive, go straight ahead and look to your right, you will see a raised platform, with the Hutt Bounty Broker on it.

Go up the swalkway and face the Hutt.

Now look to your right, for the BAA Acquisition Vendor, he is wearing the armour.

click on him, you can see the parts and how many Completed Bounty Contracts you need to get each

What you need to do is take part in the Bounty Hunter Event, it happens every 4 to 5 weeks, from that you get Completed Bounty Contracts tokens.

ah so I can get armour like this just from playing the game, it's not all bought with CC's?

I was wondering how armour works tbh... like can I apply the look from one piece to another piece? I assume this is the case as people will apply the look they want to their end game gear, right?

I just hope it doesn't cost CC's to do this.... this put me off Guild Wars 2 as skins were 1 use items and you had to pay to use them again.... I love to customize (probably my favourite game is warframe and this is largely due to the custom options) if I end up getting stunted in this area it can have a negative effect on the game for me :(

  6. Adric really nicely covered all your questions. I’ll just add a few comments:

First, highlighted the above for emphasis. Do NOT waste CC’s (Cartel Coins) on this! They are far too useful. Since you are just starting, re-roll the toon to the species you want (a Sith makes the most sense for the Warrior class story). Just first delete the original to free the name if you like. Then use on your re-rolled toon. Do it quick since anyone is free to use the released name.

Races: Adric mentioned the bonus (unlock) at L50. On my new accounts, I start with a Human just because the L50 bonus is 100 Presence to all future toons. But that’s more a min/maxer kind of thing.

As for story, yes personal taste. But if you google around, you’ll quickly see that the Agent story rises to the top of most lists. Having said that, I’d hold off on that one. All the stories are contemporaneous, but bleed into each other a bit. Events in the background of one may be key events in another story. While there is no proper order to play them, I’d frontload the Consular and Knight, and consider finishing with the Agent. But that’s me. Btw, the Warrior story is also quite a favorite.

thank you. I rolled a sith inquistor, which probably doesn't make a whole let of sense as they start a slave.. I should have picked the actual slave species (I forget their name, the ones that are always slaves though with the tentacle hair ) but it's done now and I just wanted to have that darth maul sort of look tbh (I am very happy with how my dude looks with a hood, scaring and everything is perfect so I don't mind)

what would you advise I use my coins on then, please?

PS: would you advise also re-rolling my warrior so she is not a cyborg and is one of the other classes? as I stated I ended up rolling a sith inquisitor (hatred assassin) so if I was going to re-roll my warrior, I'd probably pick another race.

If I'd known more about the inquisition playthrough and the fact I started as a slave though, I'd have not picked sith for this, I'd have picked a slave girl for this role then re-rolled my warrior as a sith.

I really don't wanna play through the exact area again for the 3rd night running though, so reckon I'm gonna stick with my sith inquisitor at least for now... I mean at a later date I can always make a proper slave girl inquisitor anyway. Right now I don't wanna burn myself out keep re-rolling stuff, as when I fall into this I tend to get sick of the RPG pretty fast. I probs just need to stick with something and play it for a while now.

  7. thanks guys. a lot to read here.

I made a sith inquisitor (hatred) last night as I wanted to make a red skin sith after I had my sub.

I will most likely make a bounty hunter next.

I was wondering if anyone could explain how oufits work? Like the ones I can buy for cartel point, can I apply the look of those items to my own gear or something? I'm not sure how any of this works yet, so holding on to my 500 cartel coins tightly until I know what's going on.... although I missed out on the red droid pet by a matter of hours it seems and now I feel like I need a droid pet, so will probs spent 200 on a pet or something... LoL.

Is there anything I should be using my cartel coins on as a new player, please?

thanks again guys. really appreciated all the support here.

  8. So I started last night without a sub and picked a cyborg.

I subbed today so now I assume I have access to other races as starters as well? Can I change my race, or am I better off making a new character for other races?

My first character is a Cyborg Female Sith Vengeance Juggernaut, I don't know much about the class other than it's a light saber wiedling damage dealer that may not be too squishy.

I usually play ranged classes though... what ranged classes would you recommend for a newb, both empire and alliance? (and can I make my very own bobba fett? ... I have a fett keyring, LoL.) Am I right in thinking we can make smugglers as well?

Ah man, this game looks so cool... already been drawn right in by Korriban (only wish I could have started as a red skin... maybe I make a ranged sith red skin this afternoon... I can't bail on my "Sarynius" (taken from the word "Sarin" which is a nerve agent, but also "saryn" is one of my favourite warframes from the game "warframe" and "saryn on it's own was already taken, ha ha)

Anyway, I hold no real allegiance to either side and hope to be able to play both Sith and Alliance... I have always had an affinity for the dark Side though, mainly working with diseases and poisons... I was really hoping I'd get to be a Sith Alchemist and mess around with that virus that creates zombies, also known as project "blackwing" .

    Anyway, thanks for reading.

PS: how do I choose an avatar on the forums, please?
