  1. Thank you, but there is no way I can use Shift or Ctrl when moving with WSAD :). Alt + 1-4 is already mapped and working fine.

I myself am walking around with WER and haven't got walking backwards bound. If I want to walk backward I always tilt my camera a bit and strafe. Using WER (or ESDF if you prefer) opens up the Q and A keys for you to use with your pinky finger. The way I basically play is using all buttons around my WER for abilities. For reference I can recommend Taugrim's guide on strafing and keybinding that helped me a lot

First of I use the 1 to 5 keys for most regular skills, then the ~ and 6 keys for some less used, or channeled ones. Q is usually my reactionary/off the GCD skill, A my gap closer/speed boost, S my stun, D my interrupt (but you could bind that on clicking your scrollwheel), F my slow, G some utility skill (say taunt), H another less frequently used utility (mass taunt). T and Y often are AoE's I have, but not always. As you see, I'm using all keys around my movement keys.

In total you should have 16 spots this way to put keybinds on and usually more than enough. I also use a few extra like F1 to F5 and X to B for damage boosts or resource recovery, but that's a personal preference. Also my mousewheel can tilt left and right for two more buttons for most of my defensive abilities, even more with ALT added, but that is because my hardware allows it.

Now I can hear you thinking "but I still need my fingers to move around, no?" and right so! The trick is to learn to switch between which fingers you use to move around as you reach for the other keys. Most times I move forward using my middle finger on E, but on occasions switch to pressing down the left and right mousebuttons at the same time as I reach for say ~ or 1. It becomes even more complex while I'm moving my cursor to click on a target as I do this, causing my index finger to suddenly be on E for moving forward while reaching for ~ or 1 AND needing my cursor free to click on a target.

Edit: I would move your strafing buttons up to Q and E so you'll move with QWES if you want to stick by moving with W as forward. This way you'll have to stretch your fingers a bit less and you can more easily reach the 5 button as well. Your ALT key won't be in danger as your thumb doesn't effectively move from it's spot.

I would advise to always use abilities with a similar function on the same buttons, so that your muscle memory will kick in faster. It's probably best to start a new character if you're going to drastically alter your keybinds, so that you can ease into the new setup easier. Remember, it won't magically be better from the get go. You'll be worse off in the beginning because in stress situation you'll see you revert back to old muscle memory. Just keep practising and you'll see in a few days you'll start to be more efficient.

Good luck! And I hope this was of some help (and not too much to read)

TL;DR - use Taugrim's keybinding guide, free up more keys around your movement keys to use and practise practise practise. Your muscle memory needs to get used to any new setup you'll be trying to use. :p

Ps. Of course all of this assumes there is no physical impairment of any kind present. If there is, I apologise for any possible offense that may have been incurred.

  2. I kinda wish they'd implement it like in Dragon Age Inquisition. Beautifully done that one. But yeah, it would mean it could be banned for play in some countries, like India. That would probably hurt their sales pretty badly as india covers like what, 15-20% of the entire world population? :p Perhaps a bit simple of an argument, but I could definitely see why they keep things... modest because of that.
  3. I feel the same about my Juggy. With the removal of a functional retalliation in my Vengeance discipline the flow feels... disturbed in (solo) pve. I've been used to having it up and off the GCD for more than two years, my muscle memory is totally messed up and I often still press the skill as I tab through the mobs. In Immortal tree having it off the GCD gave a very nice weaving feel to the entire tanking spec. Gone now as well. Same goes for my Carnage Marauder, with the removal of so many abilities it feels like they gutted the spec to it's core-rotation. I have 3 warriors and 3 knights, they were my favorite baseclasses to play because of the heavy and quick paced weaving nature. That's gone now though, sadly. :(

TL; DR: The combat in this game feels less engaging for me and I'd like to know the REAL reason devs found it neccessary to remove damage off the GCD. What was so bad about it?

  4. As mentioned before in the thread, my Carnage Marauder feels rather naked now with all the removed abilities. I used them frequently too and the spec just feels... gutted... I loved the high speed feeling it had, especially with things like Retallliation (being off the GCD). Also variation is missing now that we lost abilities like Rupture.

Anyway, the daily area teleports, mail boxes and such I don't have on my bars. I just hop into my legacy tab on the ability window to activate them. Also I have only one speeder slotted. Only the legacy combat abilities are on my bars as I need to be able to quickly use them on occasion. :) I'd say having 3 bars is enough for combat abilities and then a 4th for things like healing up, stims, adrenal/relic, class buff and speeder.

  5. Hmm, I think when people refer to Legends, it doesn't mean the things mentioned in there never happened, just that moviemakers don't have to hold onto every specific detail that happens in said Legend stories/events. :p They could say those weapons are examples, but then in movies could alter some qualitites of them, or their actual history here and there to fit the movies.

TL: DR: IMHO in a way Legends are canon but only called as such so future content makers aren't bound by too many details and free to add some twists. :)

  6. when i first went online on 3.0, my accuracy stays at 97.07% (440 accuracy rating). It was reduced exactly by 3% due to the changes of the skillsystem. According to 3.0 patch notes, the %value should be higher, even on 55.

At level 60 and 440 accuracy rating, you have 105,xx% accuracy.

    So, am I reading this wrong or... is accuracy per point dropping from 50-55 and then increasing from 56-60 again, or? :D I'm a bit confused ^^;

  7. I would indeed say the flow of the build is gone. With the increase in Smash/Sweep's CD, it also doesn't synergize well with Crushing Blow/Guardian Slash anymore. My muscle memory is entirely messed up.

A typical rotation I used (sorry for using Jugg jargon, been playing him the last half year):

ST > Charge > CB > (off the GCD) Retaliation + Smash (since by then you'll probably have been hit once, generating a rage) > Backhand. There, maximum threat right done. After that you'd continue into a small rotation starting with Sundering Blow (to get your rage up again), Viscious Slashes, Force Scream and with Retaliations all the time until you could go CB > Retaliation + Smash again. It felt fluid, the animations linked very well into eachother and it was great fun.

As a tank I don't care as much about big numbers as when I'd play DPS. As such, I'd happily trade my extra crit chance and some CB damage back if I can get the old Retaliation (and perhaps CD of Smash) back. The discipline feels very... clunky now. It lacks synergy in its' abilities CDs and flow IMHO.

  8. Since there's no offhand atack, your assault won't miss.

Exactly this. Assault doesn't have a lower accuracy and no 70% offhand attacks are involved on a Jugg/Guardian. Besides that, it still stands that stacking accuracy, which is quite needed if you want to keep your accuracy up, basically makes Retalliation useless.

Also, am I the only one who's very annoyed that it's being taken off the GCD? In my tanking rotation it being off the GCD made the spec feel so fluent. I see it with all specs so far, taking things off the GCD and making the ones that are still on there (taunts) have a longer CD.

First my marauder will lose Gore from GCD, which really made the spec feel streamlined, and now my tank juggy will get his streamlining ability put on GCD as well and I can already guess it will annoy the living daylights out of me. Let alone muscle memory will be out of wack. I have skills like that placed on my Q button for the sake of being able to press it quickly to weave them in between GCDs.

I kinda want to know the REAL reason they're taking things off the GCD. Maybe it was causing server lag or something? Something must have prompted them to be going through all the trouble of taking them off the GCD and I want to know what it is before I'm satisfied.

  9. I would also like to know what armor sets are being removed from the game, assuming you are removing some because of what happened with the removal of the old level 50 stuff when ROTHC launched.

    ^This.

I'd like to know if I should quickly farm comms to get the looks I want before I'm surprised to see certain sets gone.

I was surprised by the previous removal and never got my hands on a War Hero Vindicator or War Leader belt, which is the only belt that seems to fit with my body type 3 juggy War Hero outfit. The *ahum* crotchflap on that set's chestpiece allows for very few other belts to be properly used, especially on body type 3, and I hate that.

  10. Well, I think part of the problem is you're using a Marauder with Jaesa. If you're really comfortable playing the class and you know how to increase your survivability, then you can get away with it, but I had to switch out Kira for Treek on Alderaan on my Sentinel, personally. So kudos to you getting this far with Jaesa. Also, Quinn is not that great of a healer, honestly. BUT what might help is you hitting the ` on your keyboard (has the little ~ above it on the same key), and you can disable Quinn's attacks so he just heals you.

If you can make it until you get Pierce (end of Taris), you'll see a major increase in survivability once you get a tank, as Sents/Maras are made to be walking blitzkriegs and nothing else, making their natural survivability pretty low unless you get really good at what you're doing. Also, make use of as many medpacs and stims as you can, as that will help. I believe you already have the Force Choke ability, so use that along with other interrupts (Force Charge is one, as well as Smash). What will really be the best thing for you, though, is getting Treek if you feel like spending the cartel coins. Worth every penny, IMO.

^ This. I don't die often anymore, but that is indeed because I know how to avoid damage really well from knowing how the class works. Also, it gets a bit better later on at 50+ for some reason. But yeah, leveling a Sent/Mara can be a pain in the lower levels because you're missing most mitigation AND damage abilities (aka, kill them before they kill you is a pretty effective way to avoid dying :p)

  11. I've recently finished leveling a Marauder to 55 and I want to run through the Jedi Knight story. Is the playstyle of a Sentinel the same, or extremely similar, to the Marauder? I want to change it up a bit, so if they are the same I will go Gaurdian.

    Thanks

A Sentinel is the mirror class of Marauder, meaning they play EXACTLY the same. The only difference is the animations used and the names for all the abilities. Mechanically they are literally the same to eachother. :)

  12. And then there is Alacrity.

It really sound like the stuff will finally work. Just hope the dont forget the little unimportant talent called cell charger which gives us 8cells every 6secs. They have to speed it up as well to make it worthwhile.

They said on the stream Alacrity will reduce internal (proc) cooldowns as well. I would figure if you had 20% alacrity, your 6 seconds internal cd on it would be reduced to 0.8 * 6 = 4.8 seconds. :)

  13. It is indeed a great idea, one I opted a while ago already (the thread I started back then seems to be deleted o.O), and keep opting in game with much success. It would also make sense that siblings in your legacy family tree could be seen together, or spouses, or parent and child.

Somehow I think they wanted to go an entirely different direction with the family trees, but I honestly think they forgot about them after their initial implementation. :)

  14. It was probably already mentioned before but.... As the title says. :)

Recently with the Temple Robes I loved them... except for the hood. It shows a bald head on my female with body type 2 so clearly, that I just couldn't look at it.

Now I'm using a certain headpiece that isn't too obstructing yet removes the hood that is up. I'd kinda like for an invisible headpiece that would remove a hood completely, just like the other parts of the Covert set would be invicible, hence the "Covert Energy Helmet".

Here's a pic of how it looks now:

  15. I definitely would like to see these in-game!

In addition, I've heard many roleplayers yearning for what I would call stances. More or less static poses and not just a short animation. Countless NPCs can be found throughout the game wearing these stances, so it'd be wonderful to see player characters able to use them as well.

    These include

And it might be just me, but the blaster bolt deflection training seen on Oricon Republic camp is awesome. Could we have it too :D

I think one of the streams with Eric Musco decorating already showed the devs have a /sleep emote. Will try to find the stream and time data and edit my post. :)

Edit: Found it! http://www.twitch.tv/swtor/c/4691480 around 17:00 he shows it. :)

  16. I do remember them saying that for sure as well.

However, my question does not revolve around that but rather the possibility that Strongholds are located in a different location altogether, as I've explained already here, akin to Section X or Black Hole.

Tatooine for example is CLEARLY INSTANCED outside the Tatooine we know, since the day time doesn't match the one you see in the game.

Ah right, I misinterpreted your question then. I'm pretty sure they'll be instanced seperately from any other planets and such. If one would be looking at chatservers as an indication, I can tell you that those are completely seperated from the game areas, as I've had it two times where the chatservers had crashed or were lagging heavily while the rest of the game worked. :)

  17. They weren't exactly showcasing it in one of the Live servers, were they?

Regardless, do you have a source for the first one? I do remember them saying that the location for Strongholds on contested planets will be different but you can see right now the Strongholds on both Dk and Coruscant being built.

I believe on the first stream about Strongholds (http://www.twitch.tv/swtor/c/4583536) they mentioned the chat would be shared with the planet the stronghold is on lorewise. I can't give you an exact timestamp of where they said it, but I'm really sure they did somewhere in it.

  18. I think you could say the majority of the abilities on a senitnel are skills involving weapons (they don't even have force push, for example.) Others might be less 'specialised' in weapons than sentinels, but use oher abilities to compensate for this. Maybe it can be seen like that?

Anyway, I don't think you should think too hard about it, as they needed to name them something and weaponmaster seem to fit the 'vibe' sentinels have :)
