  1. I would add one more reason why not compare these two games.

SW Battlefront seems like true thematic game from SW universe meanwhile GSF is arcade shooting game with sticker "SW" but without any similarity to SW battles.

When you are comparing speed, max. atmospheric speed of X-wing is 1050 km/h (wiki) and Kuat Mesas map is in the atmosphere for sure. So ships in the GSF are actually flying too much fast :D

When you are missing rockets or missiles, in the original movie trilogy was not fired even single missile against enemi fighter (if I remember it correctly).

  2. A gunship can one-shot an unupgraded scout, if it crits (so it first has to pass the evasion check, then has to roll that 16% crit chance). Nothing else in the game can ever be one shot.

Damage and Weapon overcharge in TDM don´t exist anymore? Otherwise GS can one shot much more than just unupgraded scout for sure.

  3. Maybe read what he wrote before you try to defend him. I don't jump on players for being new or asking questions.

I´m not defending him. I was pointing out that argument "I played more matches than you, bow before me and obey my commands" is not the the best in some cases. In addition he had some valid points regarding things which can easily scare off new players, e.g. premade vs newbies.

Lots of people even dont know that some GSF tutorial exist. So new guy start queue, play match where can´t hit anyone but he is instantly shot down. Queue again, all repeated. No wonder such player is frustrated and talking nonsense about pay to win. But most of them just ignore GSF after such experience, only few go complain here and even less go here, check whats going on and start long way of learning how to play.

  4. Also, you are talking with players who have played thousands of games in this thread. Are you even at dozens? What are the odds that you understand the first thing about the game yet?

It is a bit dangerous to use argument like is this when discussing some topics. It is good answer in some "nerf them all" thread, but not in to discussion about tutorial. It is like saying that you will need to spend a huge amount of time to be able enjoy GSF. GSF should not give impression of hardcore simulator intended only for a few hardcore players.

Also what is sufficient number of played matches to get permission for expressing own opinion here? 1 thousand, 2 thousands...?

Not everyone have time to spend whole day by playing game. Yes, of course, they never will be (and so it´s OK) so good as some aces, but they should be able to enjoy GSF anyway. Otherwise there is no point for playing such game for lots of people.

  5. Each lost player is bad for GSF. It is maybe overestimated by me and at same time undestimated by you.

And it´s not about "good" pilots. It is just that current system is very unfriendly for new players. Although a lot of people advocate this as "survival of fittest", GSF is still just part of game made for profit. So no players, no game development.

In my opinion is this one of many issues which prevent more people to enjoy GSF.

  6. Matchmaking is based on 3 aspects, 1: Games played 2: Highest upgraded ship on your bar when you queue up 3: Time spent in queue.

This is interesting info about matchmaking. But I think that you are missing main decision point for most servers with average GSF population. GROUP or SOLO queue.

Group have definitely priority. So if there is premade group of veterans players, matchmaking system have no problem to put them against newbies. That leads usually to mentioned situation, where one skilled pilots can be together with bunch of newbies against premade. And because group have priority, next match have high possibility to be same.

    It´s a nice loop.

low GSF population => unbalanced matches => low GSF population

  7. We have been nerfed in literally every GSF patch since launch.

And large portion of matches is still decided just by ability to launch more GS than enemi.

And before each patch GS pilots swears that GS is perfectly balanced. If GS is still only nerfed how is possible that it is still very playable?

  8. I would like to highlight 2 things which lots of people here forgetting:

    1) Most of players discusing here are veterans. Learning to play was much more easier in early times of GSF. Most of players were on same level - same stock ships, no upgrades and much less knowledge about game. Now are newbies facing aces with fully upgraded ship. Its hard to learn something when you are down after 2 shots.

    2) Some people are just better at GSF than others. Well, you are top aces, you can do well even in unarmed escape pod. But GSF is game (and its not realistic simulator game) and so it is inteded for wider range of players, not only top pilots. Player base will be hardly ever larger if game stay as it is now.

  9. I would add something which is not appealing for local hardcore players, but could attract new players. Therefore behold Kessel Run non-combat race :D Minigame in minigame.

    Mode: Race. No weapons allowed.

Map: Existing map (Kuat, Lost shipyard) just with added checkpoints (Denon is not interesting map and nobody would race at battlefield anyway)

Ship: This would be hard decision, but there is no way how could e.g. bomber race with Scout. So avaiable would be just one or two default ships (one a bit more faster, one a bit more manoeuvrable). Or maybe more ships with different design but more or less same techncial specification.

Description: Fast race (1 or 2 round) around map thru checkpoints. Ideal place for checkpoints would be tight places like hole in asteroid, tunnel in rock etc. Since there is no collision system betwen ships, all could start from same spot. First who fly thru checkpoints in correct order is winner.

Race end in some time ( 1 minute?) after first ship cross finish line or after reaching time limit. In that case winner is pilot with most checkpoints.

If ship crash, respawn at start but it is no need to fly thru already obtained checkpoint.

There should be NO boosts to maintain Star Wars feeling.

Reward: Few credits, maybe some Title for lots of win. Possibility to modifiy ship (colour, some accesoried not affecting ship performance) Nothing great. It should be more for fun than for reward. And of course it should generate Top time scoreboard, so people have something to brag about.

Within GSF it would need separate queue, because its too much different from Domination and TDM.

It could be easy to implement and amazing for some new players. Veterans can train their piloting skill if nothing else.

  10. But until then, I think a GSF without so many Scouts and Gunships will do just fine.

That thinks lots of people but you are not supposed to say it loud here! It is need to silently build up Strike Alliance at first :D

So if AceFirstCav is saying something that sounds to me like, "Railguns make gunships invincible killing machines, so remove railguns, and gunships too while you're at it," of course I'm going to disagree. First it's flat out false, and second it doesn't do a good job of addressing the balance issues that gunships do have (mostly just that slug, and to a lesser extent ion railguns stack a little bit too well in large numbers).

I will just a little bit correct your statetement and we can go new round of GS vs Scout.

So if Ramalina is saying something that sounds to me like, "DF make scouts invincible killing machines, so remove DF from them, and their agility too while you're at it," of course I'm going to disagree. First it's flat out false, and second it doesn't do a good job of addressing the balance issues that scouts do have.

Btw. how can be comparing GS fire range 15000m vs longest fire range of nonGS ship 10000m false? Distance is very good defense for GS, you can´t leave out this fact. You can´t nerf Scout and let be GS.

    And now rhetorical question.

Woudn´t be GSF more rewarding skill if there were no upgrades, just basic components avaiable for all ships from beginning? No gap between equip, just your knowledge of game mechanics and skills. As it is just minigame, people could join easily without fear to be undergeared (and farmed by veterans at the end but without sense of helplessness) :)

  11. I consistenly top charts in stock ships, as I'm sure many experienced pilots do.

Really? Stock ship without any upgrades? It is in matches where are most of other pilots (friendlies, enemies) 2-shippers (newbies, not veterans with just one ship in hagar :D ) or skilled veterans? In the latter case it would mean that you are incredibly good pilot or that veterans are really very bad.

  12. This is not really true. The thing is, each point of evasion is better than the last, so the scout distortion is much better than the gunship version- it offers much more survival. That's not to say it should be special cased IMO though.

But it is really true. I´m not comparing DF effect on GS and Scout. I have just stated that GS have advantage of long fire range, which act also as great defense. Some people like to demonstrate GS as defenseless ship (yes, GS has a problem in dogfight) but forget to mention that GS has a lot of time before Strike or Scout can even start shooting.

Scout is under fire almost continuously, GS can fight and stay away from hostile fire whole match.

If someone want nerf Scout components, GS components must be nerfed too and vice versa (personally I would prefer just delete GS and bombers, but that´s another thing). I think that it is already general consensus arisen from all "nerf Scout/GS" threads.

  13. If you could separate it out and keep the live version of DF on Gunships and the Verain version on scouts that would be some very nice tuning balance wise. Maybe just about perfect even.

No, it would be the worst. GS has already best defense in the game, impenetrable for any other ship except another GS. It is gap of fire range (5000m at least and even at this distance has GS warning about lock). That´s no balance if you give ship ability to destroy oponent at unreachable distance and also ability to counter him at short distance. If you want to "balance" DF, do it same for all ships :)

  14. Are you suggesting that it's better to have more false positives and potentially ban a bunch of players with bad connections who aren't hacking? I would hate to further lower the player base just because they lag.

That´s most probably your suggestion, not mine. I did not even mention ban for that or hack causing lag. You don´t need any hack to lag

It´s normal for FPS games to have some limits for lag. Kick from match would be little too much harsh for GSF since you can´t jump back to match. Maybe put lagging (too much high or too much long lag) player back to dock and let him wait 15 sec could be enough. There pilot can calm down and try to solve lag (turn off any down/uploading).

Of course such mechanic would be abused to escape certain death, but player will be out of match for a moment anyway.

  15. Such furious effort to deny any question about cheating in GSF are fun and silly.

In every game you can eventually find someone who will try to cheat. It may not be hack, more likely it will be some game bug. Why should be GSF community exception?

Moreover if someone would already made some hack (and I believe that GSF is fortunately without hacks yet) and was not complete troll, it would be hardly some type of clearly visible hack (e.g. wallhack). Using such hacks make no sense since everyone immediately see that you are cheating. Its good only for trolling.

Statement like "I have never seen any cheating in the game, so cheating does not exist" is most stupid of all. That you never seen something doesn´t mean it dont exist.

Even if majority of lags are unintended, they are very annoying for both sides and in some type of situation can give team with lagger small advantage. If lagger dont have top score it doesn´t mean that everything is OK.

So best solution if anyone report something suspicious is explain what probably happened instead fanatical reaction about saint GSF community where cheats can´t exist just because you think so.

  16. The rest of the meta won't be helped until scout burst is addressed. It's the number one issue. Number two is strike power being too low. Once you've fixed those, you might- MAYBE- have some mild changes for a railgun.

You have an error there. At first it is need to get rid of possibility to deal high damage from extreme long range without any warning - also know as GS. Only after then you can nerf scouts as much as you like.

Because you have a huge amount of evasion that has a very high chance of making the railgun miss the first shot and there's your warning while the BLCs can easily 2-shot a GS on their own. And it's not just the GS, I'm having the same annoying problem on the Rycer, red hull before i even know he's shooting at me.

This really interested me. It is really possible to 2-shot (in Dominion without power ups of course) completely fresh GS? Whatever I tried, I never manage to shot down any GS with just 2 shots

And this time you should aplicate your favorite "L2P" on yourself. You are actually whinning here. :D I´m just kidding. :)

If any one watched the twitch stream even Bioware has seen scout burst as to high. If you guys think its fine, you are wrong plain and simple move on.

So if it is so obvious to all players and Bioware that scout need nerf, why would this thread even exist? Threads are usually intended to debate (so anyone can give oposite view) or for information (which is not this case) so your statement make no sense.

You think GS are to strong..... make a different thread k Thanks.

Well, there is a lots of threads regarding GS. In each of them GS supporters refer to use Scout if you have problem with GS. So here we have loop and anything related to Scout is also related to GS.

  17. Give me a break. The main danger of scouts to gunships isn't their offensive cooldowns - it's their boost efficiency, and the ability to stay on a gunship until its out of engine pool and forced to dogfight, where they lose due to much lower agility. The cooldowns just speed the inevitable kill along.

Isn´t that in fight GS vs Scout OK? GS win at long range, Scout win at close range. No need for TT/BO nerf.

On the other hand, the cooldowns absolutely ARE the main threat to strikes, and it's what makes strikes not as efficient to take along in the first place. Strikes' higher survivability doesn't count for much when a battlescout opens up with all its offensive cooldowns, and all the other times their boost efficiency doesn't let them catch scouts to do much to them.

Strike is able to fight back even at close range. You can´t catch it by surprise when sitting and calmly selecting its next target. Strike is fairly well moving and maneuvering. This is not much problem of Strike vs Scout.

But I wouldn´t mind if BO was active only against GS/Bombers. I´m not using it in dogfight anyway :D

  18. As long as GS and bombers are set as they are now, there is no need to change anything on scouts. This seems like attempt to make from GS even greater annoyance for game.

Some boost for Strikes to help them shot down GS would be nice of course, here I totally agree.

Add to the game some kind of warning that GS is aiming on you and debate about TT/BO can be opened.

GS has lots of time to run away before anyone (except another GS) get in to adequate range to even start shooting. Moreover in combination with distortion field it have very good chance to survive surprising attack (which can already happen only if GS pilot make a mistake) and react.

In any thread dealing with objections agains GS is usuall answer (if we skip classics "L2P") approximately this:

"If you have problem with GS, take Scout."

If scouts would be less effective against GS, one of last arguments of dedicated GS pilots is lost. Think carefully before any request for nerf :)

  19. Bump. I'm wondering if anyone has been noticing more of this weirdness recently. I've gotten some reports from other players in game that it's happening more frequently.

I kinda always thought these issues were attributable to lag, but I'm becoming less and less sure of that. Or perhaps that lag is being intentionally manipulated.

I have noticed same thing, it seems that number of lagging players rised.

I sometimes wonder why someone with heavy lag is even playing. It must be badly playable for him/her and it is quite annoying also for other players. Trying to shot down such "jumper" can takes a lot of time. And it is not possible to leave lagger alone, because can still manage to shoot at you or trying to capture satelite.

  20. And battle between cruiser happens at huge distance normally.

Since this has nothing to do with GS I will hide it

Executor was supposed to destroy any planetary surface in hours, standard ISD could make some nice planetary bomberdment too.

Aliance tactic was mostly hit and run. Most of their ships (except Mon Calamary cruisers) didn´t have chance on close range with Destroyers. But superlaser would anihilate them even more faster. Battle in the RotS was a little bit too much close but because it was finishing. From SWTCW and short movies from KOTOR1 can be assumed that battle begins on middle distance (where lots of fire missed target) but to completly destroy enemi ship was need to get really close.

Gunships are a balanced class but one that is not fun to face.

    Thats very nicely said.

-Plasma railgun completely removed and replaced with gatling laser.

Good move since everyone love gatling :D However it would need some SW name, probably rotary blaster cannon.

Basically the idea is to turn gunships from snipers into, well, gunships. Heavily armed and armored but non-agile fighters who can lay deadly sustained damage and take a beating. The focus in a dogfight would be on out lasting your opponent or catching them with your superior firepower as opposed to running away to your carrier.

Exactly, make from snipership true Gunship. Heavily armed and armored but non-agile, all 3 properties are very important. Not try to make some hybrid.

I like how lots of people agree that GS/bombers are annoying but because they are already here, it can be nothing done. They can be deleted from game. I can almost imagine that tsunami of rage.:D

  21. Match played 1 hour ago on TEH. Enemy teams fielding 3 Manglers, 1 Jurgoran, 2-3 Bombers. We fielded 1 Condor, 1 Quarrel, 1 Warcarrier, 1 Sledgehammer and a whole lot of scout/strike. Enemy teams had 4 good pilots I respect and 2 aces (1 GS only ace and 1 all around ace). My team had 2 good pilots I respect 1 ace and myself. Guess who won? Us. Why? Cause we coordinated through chat and people did listen. Sadly I have no video of it to prove my point.

Gratz for that. Games like that are usually decided even before start. Question is how many times you are able to repeat victory of strike/scouts over GS/bombers? I have saw repetitive coordinated (or they at least seems to me like coordinated) attacks of scouts/strikes totally crushed by wall of mines/drones backuped by GS. As a match it was probably wasting of time for both sides. No fun. Lots of matches is turning in to the race of stacking GS or bombers.

True GS isn't really SW-lore. But it isn't exactly against it too. Slug Cannon, Mines and Railguns are all existing weaponry in SW lore. The mistake BW made is in the use of 'Gunship' and 'Bomber' terms themselves.

Slug and rail gun seems much more like personal weapons. But it is nice that they used some existing names for weapons. All space battles in SW are on close range. That makes them interesting. Otehrwise they should just set any cruiser to jump from hyperspace directly in to the enemi planet. Why bother with building Death Star.

So the standard "Nerf Premade" whining. You should go away from it or you'll seal your reputation here. Anti-premade aren't that interresting to argue with. I have seen PUG beat ace premade if they bother to coordinat in chat.

Discussion was about all players so...what are you talking about? But now when I know that you decide about my reputation here, I will be more carefull.

Also there is hardly any way to nerf premade. Premade can form independently on the game (just with lower chance to be together in the match). Maybe if BW track their IP and sent some killer droids...

Talk to an evasion scout fielding BLC+BO or quad'n'pod. Those builds are even more deadly than a gunship or a bomber and, against newbies, can score even higher kill count.

Yes, if you know what to do. If you don´t know what to do (or want relax during game) but you still want a nice (or at least positive) score, take GS or bomber.

  22. If, GSF was exclusively a dog-fighting game with only 2 or 3 ships players would be crying that it's boring, repetitive and everyone would stop playing.

You know that all Strikes and Scouts are not same ships and therefore not repetetive?

But don't come on these forums crying that a gunship no one bothered to chase down all match scored 20 kills of which you were 5.

Here you are talking about yourself or where you saw this?

You are basicly saying that when your neighbor is bothering you with loud music (bomber), correct solution is to play your own music just louder (Gunship).

So much text for saying that really smart guys (like you) flying with coordinated group, while idiots are flying with uncoordinated group. Gratz. You have discovered easy test to determine IQ  The fact that GS is unsuitable ship for game based on the SW remain. Just because sniper class is so popular in all shooting game, it must not be everywhere (or at least limited).

Cause the majority is always right..

No, it is because you need some people to play with :)

False. Getting a high K/D is easier on a scout, so while dogfighting, then on a gunship or a bomber.

False. If you want to go easy way, GS or bomber are right way. With Strike or Scout you must fly in to the battle, which is a bit dangerous. With GS you stay out of battle and even if you are bad shooter, you are at least relatively safe. With bomber you have massive hull/shield and AI will take care of killing. You just need sometimes relese mine/drone. And if you really good, it doesn´t matter which ship you are using :)

  23. And when GS think there is only GS on the other side, it's time you hope in a sportscar and go wreck them. Tactics.

GS is usually standing in front line and enemi strikes, scouts and bombers are not around. You are probably playing some different game :) Once again for you, GS in 1vs1 is NOT problem, but GSF is NOT 1vs1 game.

Sure, you can't go after them in your slow bomber without being murdered by the other team. Hop in a scout with good booster (ideally T1 with StE Converter + TT + LLC + pods) and counter them. One scout for one gunship. Everyone attack at the same time..... But sure coordinating thing is really hard for the standard PUG. Games should cater to the lowest IQ people. Sure :rolleyes::rolleyes:

So requirement for this game is supposed to be full VOIP team? It is sidegame for MMORPG, not standalone simulator. Also what is the connection between VOIP coordination and IQ?

You know WWII dogfighting had no guided missiles. GSF had many of them. So just by seeing a strike, anyone should understand how far GSF is from WWII. First generations guided missiles dates from the early '50s. ;)

You don´t understand comparison too much. Missiles have every ship in game (take it as machinegun for WWII) and you need to lock them = warning for target. You can dodge it or try to fly away before complete lock. Slug/Ion gun hit without warning from distance unreachable for any ship in GSF (thus guided missile vs machinegun). If you want precise comparison, we can use Vietnam war. Combination of guided missiles and machine guns, but still no sniper plane . Anyone (even someone so smart like you) should understand that sniper ship thrown in to the dogfighters will cause great disturbance in the Force.

You wanna kill this gunship on your scout. Than bring the fight to him.

In your imagenary world of 1vs1 fights.

In fact it would help smart people bothering to check other ships capacities prior to flying their first match to understand what they are getting into. Unfortunately few does that without someone telling them to do it.

Thats not about understanding, GSF is game and most people play games for fun.

Most people are set like this:

    Dogfighting = FUN

    Sniping/Bombing = hunt for great Kill/Death ratio

  24. On the matter. Gunships make no sense? Maybe. Are they harming the game?

YES, they are. Very few players is interested in to the be shot down during dogfight by someone staying out of fight. Lots of matches is turning last time from fun of the Strike/Scout dogfight to boring static war of GS and bombers because of their stacking.

Are they hard to deal with? Are they easy to kill?

In match of two equal teams is GS hard to deal and hard to kill. Protected by other ship with lots of time to run back. GSF is not 1vs1 game.

If you can't deal with gunships, it's either a L2P issue or a n00b issue. Both are resolved by actually learning to play (n00bs need to buy themselves a brain before tho).

Yep, if you would bring plane with AMRAAM (guided missile) to WWII fighter game and other complains, it would be because they are noobs and without brain on top of that :D

New players will lose and whine about anything at all. Railguns are just a perennial favorite. Certainly, the graphical representation of the railgun- specifically, a trail would be fantastic to leave in the air, and don't start talking about a spartan laser terrible whatever- could use some work.

New players probably expect same space fights as they are in SW movies/serials. Dogfights on close range, not playing targets for GS standing completly out of range of any weapon in game (except another GS). Dogfighting and shooting ducks are two different things and people whine about that of course.

I think every player should start with a gunship and a bomber. I think it would really help a lot with the game's approachability.

Yes, that would nicely help to kill GSF. You can choose between very exciting farting mines on satelites and shooting pigeons, exactly as you saw in the SW movies. That is so much fun, that you don´t need to play it anymore.
