@WayOfTheWarriorx The reason I don't want cross server is because I saw how it has affected WoW community before and after Cross Server was implemented.

Before Cross Server if you acted out in a dungeon or raid people took note of it on your server and there was a chance you would start getting a bad reputation for such behavior. Keep acting like this and eventually people would blacklist you.

After Cross server was implemented nobody cared any longer how poorly they behaved and started treating everyone like garbage. Why not it's cross server and you'll never see them again after all.

I know this wouldn't affect PvP or GSF much, because those 2 game modes do have some toxicity in them naturally (thankfully not as much in GSF), however it would start to creep into Flashpoints and raids through group finder if cross server is implemented.

Well, those are all fair points.

I never played WOW so I don't have any first hand experience on these effects that cross server had there, but, what you describe certainly isn't something I'd like to see happen. But than again, I also wouldn't like to see a server merge happen. I think that having only one server for the entire NA would sign the death warrant of the game so based on that I guess I'm more disposed to cross server queces than I am to server mergers.

From what you describe, it sounds like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

We don't need more meaningless companions. Seasons are just retention treadmills. They should have them tie in to the original companions, so that their stories can be advanced a little.

That's actually a great idea. Tons of players would love to get some new story time with the original companions, especially LI companions.

You're very right. It's a sad state of affairs we're stuck with. It will never happen but the only way we're going to be heard and taken seriously is if we financially cripple them. That means a huge boycott of SWTOR. Won't happen though. Too many people in this world remain content and refuse to push for what's owed to them.

I appreciate your input Warrior. It's a breath of fresh air from the Bioware Chads who attack you for calling out their overlords.

Yeah, and that's kinda the rub. We all want the game to be better, improve and grow, and yet, at times, it seems like the only way to try and knock some sense into them is to speak to them in the only language they understand, by hitting their pockets. But, in doing so, that could have a negative effect on the game by futhering decreases the resources they have at their disposal to try and improve the game to to help it grow. So therein lies the dilemma.

I just call it like I see it. I'm fine with patting them on the back when they do good and calling them out for their BS when they do bad.

Your anger and discontent is justified. "Bugs" are a huge source of contention and one of the biggest complaints we see on the forums. They have a less than stellar track record when it comes to fixing some bugs.

You'd think these days they would be fast to address things that people buy on the cartel market when their are issues with them considering its their biggest source of income.

    Hello everyone!

Mark your calendars! We are beginning the process to migrate the live servers over to the cloud beginning next week. More info here!

Nice! That's great news! Opens up a lot of options for the future.

    Very glad to hear it.

I am hoping for the return of a more west coast friendly cloud server out of this heres hoping for one of the servers moved to the cloud in the us they will use central or west coast based aws cloud server and stop screwing over west coast players. Or that by moving to the cloud on east coast the route my isp takes to get there hopefully changes so i get better service(this being much more unlikely cause east coast but one can hope) If not ill probably end up quitting cause the constant random disconnects simply because of the servers location is really irritating.

If it makes you feel any better, I am an East Coast player that plays on Star Forge, and I get disconnects too.

Yeah, but at least it would shut up those people constantly calling for server mergers.

    That's a catastrophically bad choice.

The Leviathan is the French server, and August 15th is a nation-wide public holiday in France, and you are proposing to take the server down from 2pm to 8pm on that day.

What in the world made y'all think that was a good idea?

They probably had no idea about that. It's news to me as well. I had no idea that August 15th was a national holiday in France.

But, I hope they change the date, it would be nice for people to be able to enjoy the holiday and use the time they have to play the game if they want.

I don't care if it's off topic. Where I'm supposed to bring this complaint has been wholly ignored for years now.

    Fix the holsters.

Ummm....umm.......I'd think suggestion box would be the obvious answer to that question. Which I see you already did.

If they're ignoring it, putting it in a place that is totally inappropriate for it won't likely change anything.

You might also consider including what about holsters they should fix.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I agree on almost everything but I think that the fact that this game is going into retirement means that now is probably the best time to make content like that soloable if they can do it. I sincerely hope that you are wrong about them not being able to do so. Maybe seeing this post will give the devs some ideas. idk

    I hope I'm wrong too.

I would love to see people who are in a circumstance such as you are have some sort of option to be able to play the game to the fullest.

It could also be more of an agreement side of the matter:  VA / games or commercials would be exempt in the agreement.  As for the strike?  The writers might be a part of that strike until the agreement has been finalized.  The entire matter of the VA was one of the reasons for the strike in the first place.  IF that part (VA in video games in particular) is exempt from the strike then there's a good chance that once this is over those producing said products should at least be able to secure and utilize computer generated / enhance VA without any legal difficulties.

To be perfectly candid about it ...I'm not an expert in this area.  But that's kind of my take on this for right now!

As for what is forbidden NOW ... Kind of looks like the guild association is asking it's member to NOT accept other work outside of their normal areas.  IMO ... without knowing just how far reaching some of these areas are it's difficult to get a clear-cut picture of the scope of this strike.  And if I had to guess I'd say that is the point this union is attempting to make.

And ... then again... I could be wrong too!

I really don't know much about this other than the little snipets I see here on the forums and I think it's safe to say that while you might not be sure, you probably have a better idea about it than I do.

The part that confused me, as someone else pointed out, it doesn't seem to have any effect on TV, commercials, or cartoons, so it's a little hard for me to understand why than it should have an effect on the game.

But, that is a position born of ignorance on my part.

    Oh my stars!

    Good find!

Like it or not that does change things a bit.  I'm not sure how it will directly affect SWTOR .. but evidently it carries a lot of weight!

If the strike doesn't apply to video game writing, am I understanding it correctly that the strike should have no effect on the game than?

I think I saw a YT vid once from another MMO developer, and they said that stories are usually written 6mos to 1 year ahead of time, which makes sense as they have to have head time to develop and code with the script in mind, not to mention get the VO for this game ahead of time, so I would have to think that they have story content penned out for a little while longer.

    I think that's a safe bet.

Well like I said there was a reason why I was open to feedback. I am not avoiding the question but rather don't know the answer. I think maybe you should just have to prove to a representative from whichever company it is under at the time to their satisfaction that you are disabled in a way that would prevent you from doing content. Maybe they can have a list of disabilities on hand that would make it hard to impossible. But you're right in that it would be complected and difficult to do this way. Maybe the correct solution is to simply to open up the ability to solo harder group content to people in general. To be fair the game doesn't exactly have a thriving endgame full of people willing to teach you and work with you and it was a mistake imo to make r4 in the way that they did anyway. This game, and I think that this is pretty clearly indicated by the fact that we're switching from bioware to a company that puts games on life-suffort, is at it's end stages. Hell, even in the story they seem to be ramping up to an end. Maybe the solution really is just to make it all doable no matter if you can get a big group or not. But again I don't have all the answers. You can try and pin me down on the specifics of how to implement this all you want I wouldn't be able to answer. I just think it's something we should be thinking about.

I think this may be one of those unfortunate situations wherein it is unlikely they would be able to fairly accommodate everyone in a manner you are suggesting. As SteveTheCynic pointed out we have a situation wherein the legalities involved would somehow have to be interfaced with every nation on Earth and that doesn't seem very likely.

You also have to consider it would come with a financial cost to the game. They would have to pay for all the medical consultation personal on their end who would have to be not only knowledgeable about the legalities involved, but would also have to have some sort of licensing of personnel with said medical knowledge and consultation costs to look into such claims that they receive for 'special consideration players', for lack of a better term.

As you pointed out, the game isn't in the best situation financially as it is, and given that the game is played around the world, you would need not only personal with the above mentioned qualifications, but also with the ability to read and speak languages from around the world in order to conduct the necessary inquiries and to validate such requests.

In a perfect world these sorts of things would be available to those in need such as yourself, and I am totally sympathetic to your circumstances, I have family members who suffer from mental disability. I just don't think this game has the facility or the resources available to it that would be necessary to facilitate your suggestion.

Additionally, it would set a precedent that would really force all the other games to follow suit, which would than put such costs and personnel into a mandatory state of affairs because if one game does it than other games that didn't do it might get hit with lawsuits.

You might consider reading all the Terms of Service to see if there is already any mentioning of people with special needs/medical circumstances within them to see if they have already addressed the topic in some fashion.

I think there is also a part of this that also needs to be considered insofar as, and I think another poster already made mention of it, and that is that Operations are inherently group content by design. People have asked throughout the years for versions of Operations to be made that are soloable. Not for the reasons you are asking for, but, the idea has always met with some push back from certain elements of the player base.

It would also take resources and, I would imagine, a significant time investment for them to rework the Operations because it isn't as simple as merely making the bosses do less damage and have less health, they are inherent game mechanics involved that require the presence of Tanks, DPS and Healers (and mechanics such as tank swapping), so there would need to be some significant reworking of all the fights and even things like puzzles that aren't possible to do just by one player alone at all.( EV and KP for example)

I'm sorry you find yourself in the position you do, as someone who was big into Progression raiding for many years in this game I know how hard it can be to get into some groups and some of the elitism that you can find in the raiding community at times.

It's unfortunate, but my commenting isn't in any way to shoot down your idea, it's more just about being realistic when considering all the things that would be necessary in order to carry out the suggestion. I just don't think the game is in a position to orchestrate such an undertaking unfortunately.

I would not expect a broadsword post until september. bioware seems to take summers off and the same seems to be true for broadsword.

Somebody's got to be working there even during the summer. I mean, do businesses really take the summer off? How would their employees pay the bills during the summer than? Or are they giving them a paid summer vacation?

Even if they do take the summer off, I would think that someone under those circumstances would have at least had the forethought to say to themselves :

"Well, we just took over this new management of this online game, the change is going to coincide with our time off for the summer, so let's prepare a statement before we leave for the summer that we could post for the players saying hello and welcome, let them know we are going to be on summer vacation so they shouldn't expect much from us during the summer and let them know we will be picking up things in earnest at the end of the summer."

Not to do at least do that would be, at least IMO, terribly unprofessional, to say nothing of terribly rude to your new paying customers.

I don't expect any changes to the game whatsoever for at least 6 months. Of course there is a transition phase, people have to learn the game, an overview of the coding and I'm sure several other facets of an online game that would need to be understood and assessed. I wouldn't hold that against them at all, that seems perfectly reasonable.

But at least say hello. heh

One thing to remember is that EA is still the publisher so everything has to be approved by them (and probably Disney as well) for anything to be said. The game will have to survive on whatever EA decides to give Broadsword to run the game. Think of Broadsword as a sub-contractor with no other clients (they only run EA "MMOs")

Absolutely. They can only work with what they are given, and ultimately it all goes back to EA. Broadsword, like Bioware was, is middle management.

I share in your sentiments here. And even though I feel they should have at least made a public statement here on the forums of them officially taking over and at least a sort of welcome post, I am certainly willing to give them a chance to see what they can do with the game. My expectations for the game remain as they have been for a long time, small. I'm not in the "all hope is lost" category.

Broadsword is taking the same way than bioware with lack of communication but mabye there's some contractual terms that stop them for now, mabye Broadsword wants swtor team to finish what they planned till 7.4 and will begin to work on the game only for 8.0.

There's so much possibilites...and as players, we only can wait and hope for now.

That's certainly a possibility and a fair consideration.

Put this management in charge of FF14 and in a few years game loses 90% of players. So i dont blame devs sadly they have no chance to success with this management.

It's not looking good. My hopes for a change by Broadsword are starting to evaporate. Broadsword really should have said something at this point.

I know it hasn't been long yet, and maybe I'm being a bit hasty, but if they have officially taken over, even if it's just been a week, they should have said something. Anything. It wouldn't even need to be a lot, or give a definitive statement on the direction of the game, or cited examples, just something.

An opening statement, or introduction, or a welcome to post, that's something that should have already been prepared before they officially took over, knowing it was coming from the business side of things.

The logo also should have been changed on the website.

Yea, the stories in FFX are fun.  I wasn't expecting it to be good.  The ones at the beginning  (Realm Reborn)  was a bit difficult but once I got to Heavensward, they were different (some were voiced, not all) but I wasn't expecting to cry at one part of the story.   Of course, I tend to have a soft spot for elves, and really elves are cuter than orc's (my person opinion lol)

I like elves a lot too. I played an Elven Ranger for about 4 years in a Table Top RPG called RoleMaster.

The first character I ever played in RPGs was an Elven Fighter/Magic User in D&D. I was 6 years old (my brother is 8 years older than me and he got me into very young). I played that character until I was 17.

I'm also a huge fan of the Dark Elf Drizzt Do'urden in the Forgotten Realms D&D world. Your into fantasy RPG, I'm sure you know who he is.

I definitely have a thing for elves too. 😉

It's not that great for story, I'm sure from everything I hear about Final Fantasy the stories are likely far more robust and compelling, but DDO is fun if you just wanna go pillaging and leaving a path of destruction in your wake. :w_mad:

Have they actually been switched over to Broadsword already?  The last posts I could find talked about the switch but never said it had been done already or when it was due to happen.

As far as I am aware, the switch has taken place, which is cause for some alarm considering the silence from Broadsword and considering it still says Bioware in the footnotes on every page of the forums and doesn't have Broadsword listed. Near as I can tell the only nod to Broadsword on the forums is the Broadsword symbol under the Dev's name when they post.

If the switch hadn't taken place officially the Broadsword symbol under the dev's name when they post would be inappropriate, they should still be using the Bioware symbol if it was still technically under Bioware.

I took his usage of the word 'decent' in the context as being capable of good design, an understanding of the canon, and able to tell good stories.

But to give credit where credit is due, they did do a very good job with much of the vanilla content, if not always in keeping with the canon, but certainly closer than after vanilla.

As I'm sure you well know, I'm not the biggest fan of the story telling in this game, and my thought's on it's divergence from Lucas's vision.

But just for the record here, this is just my opinion. There are certainly players who would disagree with my view on some of these things and my opinion is no more valid than anyone elses. I'm sure there are many players who may love the stories in the game.

How about we EXPECT more content from the owners/developers of the game instead of the "here, take this plate of 3 kernels of corn and like it".

I think it's just a question of being realistic. I think everyone would agree with you that we'd like to have more content put out by SWTOR.

I think we probably all hope that they will give us more than "these 3 kernals of corn on the plate", but I think for a lot of players, especially long time players, there's isn't any real expectation of that. I don't see how anyone could have that expectation from this game given it's track record and it's financial circumstances.

I've considered trying Final Fantasy a number of times, I grew up playing AD&D, reading the Lord of the Rings, etc, and so that was my first taste of RPGs. I didn't start playing the West End Games Star War's Table Top RPG until I was like 18, so fantasy was really my first RPG experience.

I just can't get into Final Fantasy. It's mostly text based as I understand, and I don't like the anime visual experience, and bunny people and fox tails, and mixing fantasy with technology, that's just not my idea of 'middle earth' like fantasy. I'm also not into turn based games. I know FF isn't anymore, but I believe it use to be in earlier expansions.

SWTOR's voice based play has kinda spoiled some of the other mmo's for me. Every time I try and go back to games like LOTRO or Star Trek Online, the text based aspect of them really rubs me the wrong way now. They're still good games, but it definitely takes away from the experience IMO.

But for those that like Final Fantasy, hey, more power to you.
