  1. Completely agreed. It's a bullsh*t price that doesn't reflect the value of the item. If it was awesome, an honest to goodness upgrade, then yeah, maybe that kind of inflation makes sense, but this is ridiculous.

Your itemiztion guys are doing a piss poor job. I have no problem grinding out comms for stuff that actually is worth the grind. This? This is just busy work and poor design.

^^ Right on, this is B.S.

  2. If they would communicate they might not lose customers.

Well, never, ever, ever thought I'd do it, but I renewed by WoW subscription. Jumped on MMO-Champion and was seduced by the sheer volume of information on the new expansion and additions to the game since I left in March. Although I cringe at the outdated graphics engine and character models I must admit both the pve and pvp are still very enjoyable. I guess I'll be fighting Kung Fu Pandas (God damn the guy who decided to add pandas to WoW). But I'll also be seeing several new areas, new levels, abilities, pets, quests, raids, etc. Cancelled my SWTOR accounts, 2 weeks left, see you guys when it goes F2P. Take care.

  3. Man your not going to find much support here...PT/Vanguard should not lose to a Merc/Commando ever! He is not arrogant at all....There doesnt even need to be "A perfect interupt scenario" PT burst will just overpower a Merc/Commando...Im not being a Smart alec...Seriously just go through you rotation and you win......all you really have to account for is the long CD KB....save grapple, and trinket the hard stun...done you win, it really is that simple.....YOu dont have to even be experienced on your PT to down a Merc.

    ^^ all too true.

  4. They don't get it. Despite 99.9% of top PvP players acknowledging that Merc dps are the worst subclass in the game, BW still thinks Merc dps are overpowered. Their in game stat collection data tells them this. So they nerf the subclass. Which causes more Merc dps to exit the game. And those that do are of course the less successful ones. Which leaves the best Merc dps still playing the game. Which leads to ever higher meta average productivity for the subclass. Which leads to more nerfs. Ad infinitum. Tust me, in 1.5 Merc dps will get nerfed once again. For these very same reasons.

I would love for you to show some proof of this meta average "theory". I think it's a bunch of hogwash. Good and bad players leave when a class sucks, not just the bad. Hell, I can give a pretty good argument on why more good players leave and bad players stay than vice versa. So I don't believe for one second your silly meta average argument, you're just pulling it out of your rear.

  5. Unfortunately I simply don't have the time to play two toons. I am active duty Marine with 4 kids, and I go to school. I could shelve this guy permanently and level another, but the gear grind would be too demoralizing. My Merc Pyro is full WH and it is just a shame to have invested so much of my time into this toon just to have Bioware piss on the class at almost every patch. Now, I am at a decision point to continue playing a class I am stuck with, and continue to be frustrated that I am performing subpar to other classes with no hope for BW recognition or fixes (another 6 months of bad PvP). Or shelve my toon for another, walk that hellacious road that is the "gear grind", knowing all along that I have a toon fully geared that BW has decided to continually wreck. Or just cancel my sub. I hate to quit, but since beta this class has performed at bottom of BH class,.and I can't continue to shovel $50.00 a month for mere hopes that the next update will fix my class.

Damn, we could be related. I've got 3 kids and a busy job/home life. Merc has 6 pieces of WH but I'm leveling my 42 Sniper (sooooooo much better as a ranged pvp class). But I know that the leveling is the easy part. Once I hit 50 I'll have the same gear grind for BM, WH and soon Elite WH. It only gets worse as you go up in tier and I dread starting the process all over again. This may be the time to quit. Either try GW2, WoW expansion, or take a break and wait for the next fotm game. I'm trying to hold on until F2P kicks in to see what changes are made, but damn, it's hard.

  6. After these patch notes, and my own controlled tests vs. friends in duels (It's in a different thread on 1.4 changes), I stopped playing arsenal for PVP.

I don't enjoy Pyro near as much. I don't hate it, but I don't really care for the lack luster animations... it's just me I guess. But the bottom line is tweaking our Pyro tree for the worse is truly senseless.

The aresnal heal will not factor unless you can 'save it' for when someone pays attention to you. Like I've said, I can do an instant one now, without stacking tracer so who cares?

So this and including rocket punch amendment I saw no point in perusing Arsenal any further and have switched back to Pyro full time for PVP. The issue is that we actually are better off pre 1.4 for Pyro! Ironic?

I have to agree with you. I leveled as Arsenal and really enjoy the play style, animations, and feeling of doing some damage with the rocket explosions, etc. I don't get the same "feel" when I play Pyro and have dots and TD. At this point I've decided I just won't pvp on my Merc. Going to put the 6 pieces of WH on the shelf, re-gear with pve

Rakata gear, and use my Merc solely for farming credits in Dailies and the occasional Flashpoint. My Sniper is now my main and I'll level him up to 50 and start the WH grind all over again. Only doing this once, so if this game takes another wrong turn, I'm out. Hopefully the changes that come with the Free to Play option will give me a reason to continue playing.

  7. So, if I read this right, several of the pyro tree abilities have had their range reduced to 10m, including Incendiary Missile and Thermal Detonator. So, if you were playing pyro Merc, you now have to get within 10m to use Incendiary Missile, which is required for any pyro build. Really? So they have totally screwed the only viable Merc pvp build in order to force PTs into melee, without thinking of the consequences for Mercs? Really? Are they that stupid?
  8. erm no they play dps post and pre 1.3, they play it whenever they want and still do decent damages. Miri actually killed jwalsh in one civil war on her merc dps, and we all know how good jwalsh is. These people honestly do not care about nerfs and buffs and OP crap because they're just that good.

Same with all the real good pvpers like Treyice - who is a multi spec sorc. I asked him if he thinks marauders and PTs are OP and he laughed and said no.

If you wanna be impressed by merc dps ask either daff or miri to play dps and duel her. If you'd just stop playing a brain dead build - that you yourself know is broken and stupid as hell - that gets shut down whenever you get noticed by someone half decent, you might stop worry about nerfs and buffs too.

Forums are for baddies to complain. The moment you start complaining with them, you stop learning and ultimately stop being good.

Unfortunately they nerfed Merc pyro build with 1.4, so the only viable Merc build is now also $h1t.

  9. So I did a lot of testing last night.... a lot of experimenting.

I wrote a very long report on my findings trying to emulate the 1.4 changes, but it was too long so I will try to super condense this for the forum:

I dueled a full Warhero, Marauder friend of mine with a few of my 50's, but mostly with my Mercenary. Here are the results:

    1. In Arsenal, the results, as expected were lethargic. I never even forced him to use his god-mode (Undying Rage) unless I specc'd Pyrotech. I went about 50/50 with my marauder friend with my OTHER toons, but with my Merc I never won once.... I only even came close once, as pyrotech.

    2. The proposed changes to Rocket Punch opened my eyes to something: Rocket Punch as it stands right now, really is junk. It does put too much resolve on for doing almost nothing unless you are on a ledge! We know the ledge part, but we did try this as if he was ROOTED by the punch:

2B: Being Rooted by the Rocket Punch I seemed to be unable to escape a FULL Ravage!

2C: Being Rooted by the Rocket Punch my opponent would hit me with Force Choke if Ravage was on cool down. I have Warrior characters but this experiment did make it hit home just how far you really have to be to escape these abilities. Nevermind fear, or juggernaut slows, or the fact I was often ROOTED myself, completely NEGATING the fact my 'melee' opponent was also stuck 4 feet away from me.

    3. The proposed -reduced cast time heal- A- Should NOT be tied to Tracer missile. This is a big mistake. B- Does not make enough of a DIFFERENCE EVEN though I was specc'd partially into the heal tree to get a quicker cool down, and 6% stronger heal from it!!!!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Conclusion:

    - The Rocket Punch fix isn't going to do squat expect reduce resolve which is the only good thing it will in fact do. BUT as mentioned I realized in my testing that our current Rocket Punch is garbage because it fills so much resolve for what it does.

    - We still have NO escape mechanism, and this weird heal really isn't very good for survivability at all. We still have access to an insta-cast heal and it doesn't make a difference. We NEED a get out of jail card, an escape mechanism.... a soft control even..... something like Carbonite Freezing.

    - I know we are not built to be a 1v1 spec, but do we have to be so god-awful at it? I always felt I could hold my own against incompetents in WZ's with my Merc when people go Merc hunting but this really opened my eyes to why people go merc hunting so often in WZ's. I truly believe Merc is easily at the bottom of the 1v1 pile class wise.

As a side note we experimented with many things... I always thought cleansing was a good idea in Marauder fights... it blew me away how hard one Ravage would hit me for. (Willing to buy real Heavy armour!)

What do you cleanse? Before I cleansed often but I realized the amount of dots he could put on my was crazy, and eventually you find yourself in this defensive mode.... cleansing, healing... trying to escape... the Leap is on such a short cooldown....even moreso for Annihilation. It all seemed very futile, and once a DPS merc is in defensive mode in this circumstance, you are dead.

I found the entire experiment much more disheartening than I thought it would be.

Thanks, you confirmed what I already experienced. I want to pvp with my Merc, but damn, they are making it hard. Some matches I'll stay under the radar and do ok. Others, I'll have a Marauder or 2 that decide they want the easy Merc kills and chase me the entire battle. All I ask is for a little more defense, maybe a quick invis that let's me escape or a reliable cc. Oh well, back to my sniper.

  10. my fav too is the imperial agent sniper marksman since it was crappy to play as in crouch poped you any where shelds dont work or last long enough to protect you the damage we did to other players was the lowest in the game and takes to long to get off one shot and you died to fast to do anything , you just sit there and take a beating so i quit playing it for several months and now after all the so call changes to the class i been playing it again to see if its any better well the croutch is good but everything else still sucks dog poop so im off to the other class in the game so before you so called smarties say anything the class im talking about is ( imperial agent, sniper, marksman ) not any other in this class just this one.

Man, you really suck. I'd quit the game if I was you.

  11. this^^

Bw didnt think this through, we need ranged and we need to keep the attackers away from us.

This change should NOT go live, we dont need more stuns.

It took Blizzard 8 years to figure this out for their WoW Hunter class. Same issue. For 8 years they have screwed around and tried to make Hunters viable in melee, when in reality it was futile. I hope BW gets a clue a little sooner.

  12. I have to agree, the interrupt is nice especially against healers and the change to rocket punch will help in some situations, but our dps is still low. When I play my merc, either as arsenal or pyro, I keep thinking how little burst I have, as compared to my sniper, who can take almost any character from 50% to dead very quickly thanks to instant abilities, some of which become available when the target is low health. Mercs need a similar "closer" that allows us to finish the job with a big hit. Maybe if Heatseeker didn't hit like a wet noodle we'd actually keep up with the other classes. As it is, my Sniper's Instant Lazed Snipe, Ambush, Followthrough, Head Shot, Series of Shots, Takedown, etc, just own.
  13. Just as the title says. I've been reading most of the negative post, but every character class has been through the "we got nerfed shock" before. There has to be "A" build out there. I'm trying to stay positive. :) I'm lvl 14 ATM.

Lvl 14, wow, you're a real veteran. "We got nerfed shock"? Yup, I guess that's it. Such insight. Have fun staying positive while you're getting your *** kicked.

  14. I won't call it 'babble' but I agree with Frivera; there is an abundance of the broken class players, both in warzones and in PVE only situations.

On any given night I can wreck a team with 2-3 level 50 mercs on it. Why are they there? Why bother? Don't they realize the disadvantage they're at?

This is the category of player that doesn't bother with forums, nor competitive war zoning, and probably doesn't care what a 'damage parser' is or does. They are simply attracted to the 'theme' or concept of the character. Where they go from there is a crap shoot. (ignorance is bliss.)

I said it in my first post: at one point I took BW at their word. I believed they knew the classes, and fundamental capabilities in PVP. I don't believe that anymore and I've seen signs of it in their developer interviews, and the biggest indicators are the wide sweeping changes made across the board that I would classify as 'beta level' tweaking.

BW were making changes so big, I honestly felt at that point they should have offered us free advanced class respec choices (IE. from Merc to PT, or Jugg to Marauder, etc). At that point in game release, changes of that magnitude told me they were catching up to what we, as players, were showing them about their game.

I do agree some people won't re-roll. They will quit, well obviously they have quit. I truly hope with the changing of the guard, we will see some changes. I wouldn't post if I didn't hold out some hope.

OK, babble was probably a bit harsh, but I agree with the above. I still see plenty of Mercs, mostly casual players, even in level 50 wzs. I also see many more PTs than I used to, which tells me that the players that care to be competitive have re-rolled. So the "only the cream of the crop players are still Mercs" seems to be obviously false to me. People like the lore and look of Mercs. Heck, my 11 year old son knows nothing about SW, yet he rolled a Merc because he liked the armor and jet pack. It reminds me of the hunter class in WoW. Very popular due to ranged attacks and cool pets, but known as the noob class. I think we've found the SWTOR hunter class.

  15. I've mentioned this before, but the reason that Merc dps (and Operative dps) won't get fixed is that BW doesn't think there is a problem. And they have the statistics to back that up. Their ingame stat collection shows that the meta average productivity of all the classes are within 5% of each other.

The problem is that said stat collection does not control for player skill. And who is left playing Merc dps in wz? Since so many people have abandoned the class, it is skewed towards highly skilled, highly geared players. In contrast the meta averages for PT, Mara and Assassins are flooded with low gear players who have flocked to those subclasses and are not yet geared, nor skilled in their new professions. Once you control for player skill, it is evident to all players that Merc dps sucks. But the meta averages don't show that.

The inability of BW to understand how player migration between the subclasses distorts their ingame stat collection has haunted ToR play balance since launch. It is the reason why we had the infamous double nerf to concealment operatives. The first nerf culled out the low performing players in the subclass, so the meta averages actually rose after the nerf. This lead directly to the second nerf. The same pattern later repeated itself for Arsenal Mercs.

The bottom line here is that ToR made some real advances in the state of the art for MMOs in its statistics collection abilities. But BW lacked the human skill to interpret that data correctly. And when you hear them talk about subclasses hitting damage output targets, it is clear they still do. That's the reality of the situation.

I've seen this babble before and don't buy it for a second. In my experience, the hard core players are the "first" to abandon a broken class because they feel they can no longer compete at the highest level. I know plenty of WH geared Mercs that have benched their characters and switched to PT, Marauder or Sniper. Many new, casual and less skilled players either don't know about class imbalance issues, or don't care because they are not planning to run ranked wz. They continue to play the class because they enjoy it; the storyline, lore, look, playstyle, etc. So please save us from your misguided hypotheses. If you have the numbers to prove your theory, please share them with us. But since you're basing your theory on your own subjective assessment of player "skill", you have no way to measure or prove your statements. It does make for good reading, until you realize the logical fallacies in your argument.

  16. I've shelved my arsenal merc for now. I didn't bother trying out pyro, even if it is slightly better, it's still lacking compared to other ACs. Might as well just roll a PT. I managed to only get a couple of pieces of WH gear and just got fed up with trying to compete in PvP. All the gear in the world wasn't going to help anyway.

I've got a level 35 Marauder (Annihilation) right now. I don't know or care if it is considered FotM. I'm liking it pretty well though. I'm really starting to get comfortable with the play style and managing abilities. It is quite different from Merc to be sure. At times I still feel pretty squishy in PvP, but that's a crapshoot based on player level and ability. More often though I just feel like a crazed killer. :) Once you get your DoTs going and build fury for Berserk and get some self heals going too, you just can't stop wailing on people. I can hardly express the feeling of being caught in a 1v1 or 2v1 and being able to survive to victory. That's impossible with a Merc.

I can't wait until I hit 50 and find out what this class can really do.

Yeah, 5 pc WH set, but no desire to grind the rest. Every time I get owned 1v1 by a melee class I just want to delete the toon. Leveling a Sniper now. Just as squishy, but much better tools for keeping melee at bay and even escaping when necessary. Plus, much to my surprise, Snipers have several melee instant attacks that do very nice damage to add to their excellent ranged attacks. Even if a melee gets in my face, I have a stun, blind, root and push back with root.

  17. i find my level 41 Arsenal merc rocks in pvp, sure you have to pick your moments but the damage output can be insane and left un checked i can rinse through 3 toons at least , in short skill being smart and gear count for alot

Dude, seriously? Good luck at level 50.
