  1. I've got two good ones from another game. The first was during a serious RP promotion ceremony that my guild was running. Some of our friends from another guild were there and one of them suddenly /shouted BEWBIES in our guild hall in the middle of the ceremony. Apparently there was /ooc chatter in their guild and she hit the wrong button. I thought I was going to die I was laughing so hard.

Another, slightly more serious one happened during a player event several guilds were running together when suddenly in the channel we heard "Why'd you promote him? I disagree completely." .... meant for their officer chat obviously. I believe that the person being talked about heard it and drama ensued, but it wasn't my guild. Just embarrassing for everyone.

  2. It really makes you believe that this game engine and coding has been 'duct taped' into such an unwieldy and inefficient mess that they can not fix such a simple and critical thing when this game has been out this long.

    Still broken. It's pretty unbelievable.

Actually, that's the worst part - it ISN'T broken. Or at least not according to the CS response I got to my /bug report. It is "working as intended" - they don't want us to be able to add people offline.

And that is simply a ridiculous position to hold. How in blazes am I supposed to find my friends? Do a /who or /friend every other minute? You'd have to be daft to do that.

  3. I'd like add my voice for this request. I have a number of friends who play this game and I'd like to be able to find out when they are online. The obvious way to do that is to add them to my friends list, however I can't because they are not online.

    .... um.....

How am I supposed to know when they are online to add them to my friends list if I can't add them to my friends list until they are online?

Seriously, this is ridiculous and a major problem for a supposedly "social" game.

  4. The game's code already supported chat bubbles but for some reason this feature was not included at launch. One can assume that chat bubbles were suspended from the live game due to an "inter-twined" code string that could have for all we know made chiss pink and wookiees bald.

So it may not be as cut and dry as having an intern flip the chat bubble switch.

*giggles* Exactly. I remember a story being told about the EQ1 devs who changed a single line of code having to do with one quest or mob (this was YEARS ago so I've forgotten the details) and completely broke bard armor. It took them months to figure out why bard armor was broken because the two things had nothing to do with each other.

I guess my point is that we have to have patience when requesting new features in-game. It's seldom as easy as it sounds to us.

  5. It's not super easy to make changes in an MMO. The coding is frequently inter-twined in ways we can't even begin to imagine. All we can really do is continue to /feedback that chat bubbles are desired and hope that the devs are able to enable them.

I've not used chat bubbles before, but I can see how useful they would be in this particular game, so I hope we do get them soon.

  6. I've never played a game that limited cross-faction communication before, and I absolutely HATE having it limited like this. I've always been able to chat with my friends and plot /oocly with my enemies and it's been wonderful.

A lot of my friends want to play Republic and sure, I'll have an alt there eventually, but not right now and to not even be able to send a /tell to my friend asking where they want to hang out is not fun. That I would have to alt-tab out of the game to talk to a friend is ridiculous.

I'd like to at least have mutual friends-list tells, cross-faction player-created channels, and emotes freely open. That would solve a number of my current problems. Cross-server communication would be excellent as well if you are talking about friends-lists and player-created channels... that was a massive boon to planning in my last game.
