  1. Hilts are hand-specific. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but they're not interchangable, and this is deliberate.

The reason for this is because it used to be that you could get everything but a mainhand weapon above tier 1 from token vendors, and people were then buy offhands of the higher tiers, removing their hilts, and placing them in their mainhand.

Given that gear is only from part exchange, PVP tokens and CXP crates, I do feel like they could go ahead and remove this antiquated functionality.

  2. I feel the need to bump this because I came to the realization today that because of this bug, Kira Carsen officially has no three star gifts. Luxury only bumps to 3 if in a romance. Otherwise it sits at 2, and is the highest.
  3. I am having the exact same issue. In an instance or not I can't reset the chapter and Jorgan is nowhere to be seen. I'm early on where you have to talk to him and I have a feeling he's supposed to be your companion since I can't summon a different one. I've logged out and in, completely quit out and went back in and nothing. This of course in addition to the neke Cathar with no gun...

Leave the phase. Do not go to your stronghold or ship.

Quickest way? Use your fleet pass. You can't reset missions while in a phase/instance of any kind.

  4. The same explosion actualy happened in dromund kass in Darth Skotia's chambers. After I finished talking with zash a huge explosion appeared and smoke turned up.

Funny thing was that when the smoke screen cleared up zash was no longer in the room xD

Hah! I got this same thing the other day when leveling my new sorc. It made me lol, because it was specifically when she gave my my ship. It was like foreshadowing.

You get a ship now! *SHIP EXPLOSION*

    ....

  5. Gear isn't so much an issue (maybe for tanks) as much as player error. Gear is just extra padding against stupid, really. I had a really horrendous tank with 95k health on HM Rishi a couple weeks back. Fortunately because most of my chars are tanks, I was able to drop and requeue on my tank to save the group.

I have no issue queuing (except on tanks, cause I want my tanks to have solid gear before tnaking) for HM's starting at 50, really, but I know i'm a decent player with the ability to pull my weight and adapt to encounters.

  6. Having multiple clients open at once is not prohibited.

However, automated control of multiple clients simultaneously is a no-no.

Basically: If you have a way of opening two clients, and you operate each of them manually, it's ok. If you are using software to operate functions in both at the same time, that will get you warned.

If you just want extra money from dailies or something and that's why your running multiple clients, here's what you do:

On your "following" client, set your companion to healer and otherwise do not play this character. On your most active client, go full boar on DPS.

It will not be the same as having two people, but it will be more efficient than 1 person.

  7. IMO they need a survivability buff, but I don't want them to be like jugernauts and guardians.

I think the best solution for this, honestly, would be to extend the damage interval on our damage shield, and to significantly lower the cooldown on our 99% abilities. This wouldn't really increase our overall reactive survivability, but would enable us to more liberally use our tools instead of saving them due to long cooldowns.

  8. Good for you. I have interacted with Rydarus before, too, although he may not know it.

He's a good player. A very good player.

However, he does not understand why he is a good player, the clockwork behind instincts/reaction/math etc and his guides and advice in my opinion frequently (but not always) reflect that. Therefore, they are only really good for him and people that think and play like he does. I can acknowledge that this may have changed since the last time I did anything with him, and my impression and information may be dated.

PS - this block is edited and posted after my initial post, since I took the time to read more of the unnecessarily long post above me. I wanted to briefly expand on a few points:

    3. I have read some of his guides before, and some of his advice before. I have not done so recently, because the first impression/reads were not very good. This would have been about a year, year and a half ago. While he himself executes very well in most PVE settings I've seen him in, he has what I would call tunnel vision with regards to his playstyle and how things should be played. It works for him, but he often downplays subtle nuances that I think are important in the bigger picture, and I feel that his guides (which I have not read in a long time) reflect that, to the detriment of the curious reader that wants to learn from them.

    4. Grim - you demonstrate the same tunnel vision I often see from Rydarus when talking about gameplay. While I'm sure you're a good player, like him, you are not likely a good person to ask for advice. While Rydarus himself is generally adaptible in execution, what advice I read from him and his guides back in the day was anything but. It was very narrow and missing important small details relating to adaptibility in various fights.

As for him being a Dulfy guide writer, two things. One, the way you put it doesn't make it matter as much as you think it matters. One, Dulfy has contributors (Rydarus being one, so hopefully this was obvious), so it's not as if the entirety of the network rests on the shoulders of one person. Two: even if it did, that one person would not have the time to be the ultimate authority of every class in multiple games, such that their approval of guides is the final word in everything.

Sorry if I came across offensively, but it annoys me that I never seem to see anyone having a dissenting opinion on this particular subject, and in my annoyance I was more abrasive than was called for (though it was meant more as sarcastic humor).

    end post-edit

TL;DR: Great player. Not a great teacher. No offense deliberately intended. The only guide you need is your own brain, the ability to read your tree, and the ability to anticipate, to react, and to adapt. While I'm sure this seems like common sense, I have long felt that these tend to be downplayed/undervalued by aforementioned guide-writer when giving advice, even if he himself tends to exercise all three.

  9. A shadow tank really isn't squishier than any other tank, it just takes a bit more practice. It deals great damage in return, not to mention good utility in pvp.

I personally love hatred/serenity, but that's just me.

I would argue that heavy tanks are more survivable out the door, and assassins bloom a little later in terms of leveling and survivability. But for the most part, in the end...this is very true. All tanks have their strengths and weaknesses, but they're all more or less as survivable as the next, but with little tweaks here and there.

Example: Assassin/Shadow can more easily solo tank story mode Xeno on the Gree event because of the way Shroud/Resilience works.

  10. Not trying to knock Rydarus's most excellent 4.0 guide stickied at the top of this thread, but a bit overwhelmed by the amount of acronyms and references to end-game abilities and encounters.

I am just looking to become more efficient while leveling up, and would like to understand the best rotations to use during battle to maximize my focus.

I guess to be more specific, I'm looking for some tips on how to fight against multiple mobs at once. Anyone have a more basic guide? My Guardian is currently level 31.

Knock it all you want. His guides aren't very good for:

    1. People with questions

    2. New players

    3. People with a desire to think and/or react

    4. Fights that are not against a target dummy

  11. Lower cooldown on our 99% self damage reduction. Higher duration on single target 99% damage killer (though I would recommend it stay the same in PVP).

Sentinel/marauder is meant to be a glass cannon powerhouse, but while their burst is certainly intense, it's not so ridiculous that it warrants the particularly atrocious lack of survivability. However, more DPS would push it into potentially being a little OP, so these two changes I think would be more ideal.

  12. Hmm it is possible they have changed it for 4.1 I suppose...but as you are saying that they vary from FP to FP it will be difficult to see (impossible for me since I don't have the time to run multiple FPs right now)...

....the other possibility is someone is healing you just as you click:)....Mercs have instant heal regardless of the specc (that can be used on others...sorcerer have too but it is self only and I have no idea about operatives)....

If it truly gives you 30-40k heals than that changes things, but if not...well...you are creating the need to heal for so much yourself:)

...and even with 40k heal ''Fat bosses'' are still good reason for someone else to use kolto stations:D

It was like this a long time before 4.1. It's been that way since I returned to the game around June 2014, for the flashpoints that have them. For the scaled ones, which came with 4.0, it has been that way for as long as they've been around, too. The groups in question, it wasn't someone healing me, because one, more often than not there simply was no healer (and often nobody capable of dropping any heals whatsoever), and two, I would have seen the number pop up anyway if that was the case.

I'm pretty sure you're just not intimately familiar with the way kolto works, heh. Not trying to be insulting, your opinion is just based on information that is inaccurate.

Again, for most fights it heals you for about half your health, but there are a few exceptions. The only one I can definitely confirm is the Taral V bonus, and I feel like it's also the case for the last boss of Rakata, but I haven't had enough issues with it to really parse the information from the past. Not to mention Taral V comes up more.

The point is that the heal is significant, and so barring some exceptions that are perfectly reasonable (such as a teammate getting incapacitated while very low on health) you are and should be in charge of healing yourself with kolto if you need it. /shrug

The most reasonable way to do it is just, if you're at 50-60% health, it's time to hit a kolto. Particularly if you have aggro.

  13. In that vein...I want to kindly ask that to everyone traumatized by their 4-dps or tank/dps/no heals teams that can't survive without kolto stations...when you get an actual healer in a group, leave the kolto stations alone unless you are standing right on top of them! You're wasting valuable dps time by running back and forth to the kolto unnecessarily. If the healer is utterly hopeless or is simply lacking most crucial healing abilities, then you might think about kolto. However, give the healer a chance still, and focus on your own job.

Agreed heartily with this. The one time I don't mind other people clicking koltos to heal me is if they are actually a healer, because it's part of their job and they're maintaining group health. /nod

On Athiss - Tactical is easy enough that it's fine to let the boss get out of position to click a kolto yourself. You may have to go to first person to do it, though. But my point was, the RULE should be that if YOU need a heal, YOU click the kolto. There are of course, exceptions. Athiss giant akk dog boss might be one (I haven't had trouble with it myself, and I always end up tanking, even on my DPS), and another one I definitely make exception for is when there's an actual healer doing it.

Mmm you have probably partied with me some times (I have killed people this way), but no - this is actually horrible suggestion:) Yes you get an instant heal, but no - it is not significant heal. It is maybe 2 hot ticks or maybe 3

It is definitely % based and it is most definitely significant. Whenever I click kolto at half health, it always puts me to full or near full, with very few exceptions. It may vary from fight to fight, but the only exception I can think of off-hand is the Taral V bonus boss, where I only tend to get a 9-12k heal versus healing for half my health.

When I give these values (aka 9-12k and "half my healt"), this applies to all my characters, including my "main" three, all of which are tanks with just shy of 90k health. I do notice, however, that in fights where I get half my health back from clicking a station, I do not get a number that pops up over my head (other than the HOT), displaying how much it healed me for. Whereas in the one fight I did mention in Taral V, I do indeed see the number.

For clarity: On those big ones, what happens is: I get around half my health back instantly, regardless of my health value, without a number popping up. I also get the HOT, and HOT values do pop up. On the Taral V fight I mentioned, values pop up for both. Maybe some fights (as the ones mentioned) , the koltos are not working as intended.

I feel like I have run into this on the end boss of Rakata, too, but I haven't run it enough times recently (I get Taral V a lot) to be sure.

Your mileage may vary, but even on that tactical bonus boss in Taral V, which is fairly difficult for an all-DPS group, that extra 9-12k health, even if unusually low, makes an enormous difference.

Do not take somebody else's chance at clicking a station.

  14. Happened to me once last week. Fortunately haven't run into it again since. The annoying part was I was on my 12 sorc and I was trying to not be useless x.x
  15. Note: You guys need to stop assigning yourself/people in general to kolto stations.

If a person needs a heal, they should click the kolto themselves, period. You get a huge heal for YOU AND ONLY YOU on top of the group HOT, which is much, much more significant than the HOT. Please stop training random pickups to do anything like this - it's asinine, and it has gotten me killed a few times due to someone in front of me standing by a kolto, and clicking it before I can, resulting in me getting killed because the HOT isn't enough and I usually have aggro on my DPS if there's no tank.
