  1. Ok so I had one more question. Do Ops use cover at all? I can see it being used after opening up with BS (for now until I get HS) and doing the rotation but I usually either burn the guy down or am dead by that time, so idk if cover is really even useful just to launch explosive probe or something. Do you use it or cover for anything as a op?
  2. Just made a new Op, and just wanted a little advice on the general build to use for leveling Concealment and maybe dabbling into the medicine tree for some off-heals. Also, do Ops use cover at all? My guy is only 15 but I've not really ever needed to drop into cover once, so I just took it off my key bindings....not sure if that's advised or not but I think I'm doing it right since I do well enough in Low tier PvP and in PvE...But mostly a general build would be helpful since I'm just going with what I think right now, which would be this:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#401MccZGfzrdrorhGoZb.3

Not sure the viability of the build as I just threw it together based on what I thought was good. I also know about the upcoming changes in 2.7, but I don't care very much since I'm not using BS as it is anyways now since its a later ability.

    Any help is welcome! Thanks!

  3. So I just got back into my PT recently (he's level 31 atm). and I have him tank specced but have been messing around with AP and Pyro....I can't really figure a good spec to work with. I like the tank spec since I enjoy tanking but have never really tanked for endgame FPs or anything....that and I heard it wasn't viable as of a few patches ago (the IronFist build I believe it was?). So my basic question is, which build would the best for a fledging PT who wants to do endgame stuff and do pvp stuff a lot?

    Thanks!

  4. Proper video and audio drivers.

    Reinstall game over same directory.

Download and install DirectX 9 Redistributable from Microsoft.com

Set your Nvidia panel for single display performance, pre-rendered frame to 1, limit Antialiasing to 2x

Nvidia 720 is very low class GPU so you have to tweak your setting around it...

    Updated my drivers

Tried to reinstall the game (had to use the online download from SWTOR site since my comp has no CD drive)

    Already have DirectX 11

Tried to tweak the NVIDIA settings

Still no real help...it got better but FPS is still in the low-mid 20s....Is there something special with the online client download perhaps? For a little more reference, I'm running Darksiders 2 at medium...

  5. So I just purchased a nice new laptop for a fair price and decided to put SWTOR through the paces and see how it runs. Here are my laptop's specs for reference.

i5 1.8GHz (usually runs at around 2.5GHz while running in high performance mode and while running intensive apps such as games)

    NVIDIA GeForce 720M 2GB Dedicated

    500GB HDD

    8GB RAM

    Windows 8.1

Yesterday, I was running on Windows 8 and the game seemed to be running just fine on High (averaged around 30FPS with dips into the 20s sometimes but on average 30).

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 (since I abhor regular 8 and 8.1 is at least an improvement) and now the game seems to be running poorly, I can barley stay around 22FPS and usually its closer around 18-20FPS...I can't seem to figure out the problem.

I went into my NVIDIA control panel and set it so that the NVIDIA GPU is the "main" GPU running for all intents and purposes. It automatically changed a few things in the panel to give the best quality...which it was doing yesterday. Is the problem Windows 8.1?

For reference, I can run Skyrim on High averaging around 30FPS+ and Medium around 50-60FPS+....I can't figure out what the problem with SWOTR is! I did just upgrade my RAM to 8GB (previously 6GB) but that only helped my computer run faster...can Windows 8.1 be the culprit? Or am I not doing something right here?

I also tried to download SWOTR unleashed but honestly it only made the problem worse even though I followed the instructions to the letter....

A quick answer would be most appreciated!

    Thanks!

  6. Found this off Newegg, most likely going to be buying it soon since everyone I've talked to about it has agreed for the price, its among the best laptops spec wise for a $600 price tag.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CPjD07ST8LsCFUho7Aod8FsAkQ&Item=N82E16834314178&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Gaming+Notebooks-_-N82E16834314178&ef_id=UsoEMgAAARBICh39:20140109032912:s

    Specs:

i5-3337U 1.8GHz (people are saying putting the laptop into High Performance mode kicks clock speed to 2.5GHz-ish)

    500 GB HDD

6GB RAM (Which I will upgrade to 8-10GB soon since max supported is 12GB)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M, 2GB Dedicated

For $600, my friends have said its the best for the price and are telling me I should be able to run SWTOR on Medium-High settings with no issues.

  7. As someone who uses AMD Chips in everything, lets start with the first one... APU Quad + Discrete is a awsome setup as it will give you more shared video memory I use a APU + Discrete my self with 8gb of DDR3.. you can use less and still have high settings with this game... I recomend the first one here but the second one works just as well. The game will run with a Dual Core processor but I tell you what, it runs sweet with a Quad and these APU push your graphics into the Processor first before firing it out to the card/monitor. Worth every penny you put into them as well. Also the APU + GPU Discrete open up Dual Graphics but unless the game offers Dx11 it wont be much use except for the fact that you still have a much better setup to run it off. [/i]

I've seen a number of AMD A6-A10 Quad cores, all of which had a discrete/dedicated Radeon 7000/8000 series since then locally...but your post was the first positive thing I've heard about AMD processors, so I'm still a bit skeptical...going to go down to my local Microcenter tomorrow and test a few out...

Are there any issues with AMDs? I've heard they overheat, or that they struggle with higher power ops (such as games like SWTOR) and are noisy (which I can circumvent), and I'd like to avoid taking a cooling pad or something with me when I'm at school. Not trying to say they suck, just need a little more info on them since, like I said, your post was the first positive thing I've heard about AMDs in a while...shame to since I found a lot of good ones (some A8 Quad-Cores+7000/8000 series Radeon discrete graphics for $500 or less) but if they are as good as you say I'll gladly get one.

These are 3 of them I found with quad core processors...

    http://www.microcenter.com/product/422619/Satellite_C55D-A5392_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Satin_Black_in_Trax_Horizon [$279]

    http://www.microcenter.com/product/415224/G505s_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Black [$500]

http://www.microcenter.com/product/415221/G505_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Black (similar to one above but lesser processor/graphics/hdd space) [$429]

Could you tell me which are good? I'm assuming the $500 (second link) is best but still....and $500 I can do budget wise but saving money is always nice.

  8. Has anyone here heard if the AMD A-series CPUs function well? I've found a lot of A6 Quad Core-A10 Quad Core processor comps with Radeon 8000 series graphics cards with anywhere between 1GB-3GB of video memory (most are dedicated) but some people I've talked to have told me to stay away from AMD processors in general due to myriad problems....does anyone have any knowledge here to the power of AMD processors?
  9. Thanks for the input all...I have since found a few more laptops. Some are a little further out of my budget range (one is out quite a bit) but I could afford it if it meant I wouldn't need a new laptop for a while.

HP Pavilion 15t-n200 15.6" for $519.99 PRICE EDIT: using a coupon

    4th generation Intel® Core™ i3-4005U Processor

6GB RAM (to be upgraded to 8GB later)

    750GB HDD

The last one I'd really rather avoid, but if buying it meant I'd not need a new laptop for a while, then I'd be happy with it. Also, keep in mind I wish to run this game on AT LEAST medium settings getting around 30-40+ FPS, with the maximum settings being high at 30 FPS...If I can at least run it on medium getting 30-40FPS + I'll be content for now. Don't know if that'll change any answers about the first computer I posted about...but I'd still like an idea of what to get.

  10. Hey all, I've been thinking about investing in a new laptop for school since my old one died on me, and I figured why not get a decent one now that I can actually afford to buy one myself. I found one that is of interest to me, here are the specs:

Lenevo IdeaPad U410 14" (I'll be using a 22" monitor so screen size matters little for games)

    6GB RAM

    750 GB HDD + 24GB SSD

Intel Core i5-3317U Processor 1.7GHz (Dual Core obviously), can be overclocked to ~2.7GHz

NVIDIA GeForce 610M 1GB (I believe it is a dedicated card, still checking on that)

    Windows 8

It'll run me about $479.99, which is in my $500 budget. How well could I run SWTOR with this machine? Also, if anyone has suggestions about other laptops that may be just as good (preferably with an intel processor) for $500 or less (prefer less) feel free to list them and any links that may go with them.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  11. In PvP I've been running this spec.

You give up some crit chance, and your debilitate has a little longer cooldown, but I have off-heals which is pretty decent. When I run with my buddy, he appreciates the off-heals since sometimes we have no healer in our group, and I got straight up bored with full heal spec. Most importantly, for me anyway, is the tactical advantages last longer. I found that enemies kept getting away from me and my tactical advantage would evaporate, leaving me waiting on my shiv/backstab cooldown to do any damage.

I regularly put up 500k+ damage and 100k+ heals, but overall numbers are really not where it's at. In warzones, you are not a damage god. You pick your targets, and burn them. You're the node defender/capper. You're harassing the healer at mid. You're peeling from your own healer. That's your job. Not burning down everybody in sight and getting tons of dps numbers.

I LOVE this class. I'm really bummed about the low damage figures we get though. I hope to see a 10% to 15% bump in our knife attacks baseline damage. Probly not coming, but hey, a guy can dream.

I was thinking of running something similar to this with the off heals and all. And I may use Temple just because she seems cool and probably the only real romance option for me since I really dislike Kaliyo

  12. I have decided to take my main character (48 Jedi Guardian) over to The Ebon Hawk server for a fresh start, where I have an Op waiting for me. I was wondering for transfers how the legacy works. My guardian's legacy level is at 14 and I have the Miraluka race unlocked as well as the Jedi Consular's buff/emote unlocked as well. My Op on TEH has no legacy or anything. Will my guardian's legacy level and perks transfer with him since it was unlocked on his legacy? I don't want to have to raise another 50 consular/inquisitor for the skill immediately and would be great if the skill just auto-transfer's so my Op can get 2 extra buffs to start with. Can anyone answer that question for me so I know whether I want to transfer my guardian over right away or not?

Also, do all my credits/items transfer over with my guardian including stuff in his bank vaults? Or just whatever he has in inventory?

    TL; DR version

Do legacy unlocks (buffs/emotes, etc,) transfer when you transfer servers assuming the character who is transferring has the higher legacy level and unlocks and how do credits/item transfers work in terms of inventory and bank vaults?

    Thanks!

  13. I see...is this spec viable for solo/group leveling on planets and such? If I join planetary heroics, can I hold my own there? Also can I level on my own/finish my class quests alone easily enough with a good companion and all? Thanks for the help, I was starting to doubt the spec but seems quite viable pvp wise to me.
  14. I was thinking of making an Op for the story since I already have a GS, don't really know their builds or how viable they are DPS wise now, but they still seem to annoy me to no end in pvp with endless stunning and stabbing, so I figured how better to experience a story of espionage than with someone who sneaks around for a living? Anyways, here's a build I threw together from what I can tell about Ops. Any criticism/changes would be helpful.

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#401MfcZGfzddbkrhGR.3

Also, I've heard the story is best played with LS/DS indicators off, but does one side "make more sense" than the other? I was planning on going primarily DS (to many LS characters...) but I may end up going with gut feelings. Also does anyone know of any cool name generators or have any suggetions for "star warsy" names?

  15. I have to say I'm a bit confused. Why are you considering a Role-Play server if your interests (based on your post) are clearly PvP and you know nothing about RP?

I mean I get it if you want to try the whole RP thing out, but that didn't really come through in your post.

Yeah, should have clarified. I do want to actually give it a shot, since whenever I create a character I make a back story for him to make it easier for me to adjust his looks and name to my liking. How do I get into that RP stuff? Join a guild or what? Would love to give it a shot, sorry that didn't come through in the initial post. PvP is a major thing for me, but tbh I do it mostly for the exp if nothing else.

  16. I've recently decided I'd like to transfer off my current server (Jedi Covenant) and transfer over to a new one and get a (almost) new start. I've been between Ebon Hawke and Shadowlands...I can't honestly tell which one. By the forums they both seem alright. I'd like a rough 50/50 split between pubs and imps, just enough so that when I transfer my Guardian over I'm not constantly matched with pubs (he's 48). Since I'm an East Coast player, and the other servers didn't peak my interest, I'd figure it was between these two. I ask you the people of Ebon Hawke, should I transfer over here? I do have a three questions.

    1. How is PvP? Fairly balanced or heavily favoring one side? Will I have many same faction matches?

    2. How is queuing up for PvP, Starfighter, and Group finder? Really slow or fairly quick?

    3. How is the overall community? I liked JC and all, but I have met far to many A holes who just kick and scream whenever they deem you "incompetent" for trying to do a good job and being unable to do so (in PvP at least)- case in point: Novare Coast: I try to go guard middle when west gets overtaken, and I fought my hardest not to lose it but got overwhelmed with no immediate backup, then people say to me "stop queuing, you're useless" (paraphrasing a bit, but you get the point). It doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough for me to consider a transfer.

    4. How does the whole RP thing work? I'm a huge SW fan (aren't we all?) and have come up with some pretty cool stuff for my characters over my 2 year tenure on SWTOR.

Thanks all, and possibly look forward to playing with you guys (as long as it's better than JC at least haha).

Thanks all, hope you have a good day/night (depending on where you are) and possibly look forward to playing with you guys (as long as it's better than JC at least haha).

  18. Sorry to sound like a noob, but what is Pot5? Welcoming would be a nice change, since JC can get quite hostile at times (especially in PvP). People have screamed at me for "doing nothing" when I'm trying to guard a node in Novare, because everyone keeps thinking they can leave 1 guy at a post...either way, something more welcoming and a little more...team work friendly would be nice. I saw Ebon Hawke and Shadowlands but from their forums idk...
  19. I've recently been thinking about transferring servers. It's not that I don't like Jedi Covenant, just I want to start anew. Let me rephrase that, semi-new. I plan on taking one character (most likely my Vigilance Guardian since I play on him most, also have a 50 Balance Sage but I never play him anymore). I will continue to raise him to 55 on the new server (currently 48) and then start a new character then and (almost) start over. If it helps, I've been a player since (almost) day one. I am also an East Coast player so that should eliminate some choices...

However, looking through the server names in game is rather confusing, as I can't really distinguish between them. They all say "High" for population (mostly) and I know which are PvE, PvP, and RP servers but beyond that know nothing of the servers. Some of the names seemed cool (Ebon Hawke, The Harbinger to name a two) but I have no clue about each server, such as which ones have a higher Rep:Imp ratio, which have more Imps, etc. I'd like one that's close to balanced between the two factions, as I will have characters on both sides (but Rep. to begin with).

Based on this info, can someone help me choose a new server? I've been leaning towards ones with cooler names but idk if that alone means a good server. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Also, if this is in the wrong place, could a mod please move it to the right place? I didn't really know where to put this sort of thing so kind of just guessed.
