    Maintenance: January 15th, 2019

    Hey everyone!

     

    We will be taking the servers offline on Tuesday, January 15th in order to apply Game Update 5.10b. The website will also be unavailable during this time. You will notice this is an extended maintenance because in addition to 5.10b we are also finishing up some back-end upgrades.

     

    Details:

    DATE: 15 January 2019

    TIME: 4:00AM - 10:00AM PST (1200 - 1800 GMT)

    VERSION: 5.10b

     

    Patch Notes will be available on Tuesday, here. In the meantime here is an initial list of fixes:

    • Granny has been found! Various decorations will now show their correct appearance instead of the text “Missing Granny”.
    • Galactic headhunters have been successful in restoring a number of male head options which were not showing up as intended.
    • Players who acquire Paxton Rall will no longer see Darth Hexid become unsummonable. Note: Players who are already in this state will be resolved in 5.10.1.
    • Corrected an issue where in rare circumstances players would score every time they picked up the Huttball.

    We know there are still some key issues that have not yet been resolved following 5.10. Just a couple of examples are set bonuses not stacking properly and Companions in odd states following 5.10. These issues are scheduled to be resolved in 5.10.1 in February.

    I finally bought a laptop only for 100$

    Lenovo Z580

    CPU/Chipset

    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M (2.50GHz, 3MB Cache)

    Operating System Windows 7 64

    Memory : 8GB (DDR3)

    Graphics

    1 GB Nvidia GT830M

    Intel® HD graphics 4000 (integrated)

    Display 15.6" backlit LED HD display (16:9 widescreen)

    Storage 128 GB SSD + HDD: 500GB, 1TB (5,400 rpm)

     

    I Play with a reasonable performance with all low settings which is fine 4 me:)

    This is SWTOR, not Crisis 3, Quantum Break, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, or another such graphics-heavy game.

    Coming from a guy who tossed $3K on a tower several years ago, here's some things to know about SWTOR:

     

    It is DX9. Keep its badly-implemented shadows turned off, graphics burden will be fine.

    It runs on a single core. That means having an I-9 processor with 16 cores is overkill or an I-7 with 8 is overkill.

    It is CPU heavy on graphics. That means you don't needs God's gift to Graphics. A mid-level CPU is fine.

    It is 32-bit. That means you don't need a laptop with a 64 bit version of windows.

     

    1. Get an I-5 or better with 4GB of ram. An I-7 would be better, but that's for overall machine performance.

    2. Get a decently-sized SSD so your load times aren't horrendous.

    3. If you can afford it, get a second SSD and load the game there, taking a load off your system disk.

    4. Use a wired connection. Don't complain of lag or drops if your wi-fi is 2 floors downstairs from your bedroom.

    5. Upgrade your router. If you're sitting there on an old Netgear WNR2000, trash it and get a new router.

    6. Type "speed test" in Google and get an idea of your upload/download network times. Get a faster provider.

    7. Kill all unnecessary Windows startup programs. You don't need a constant connection to OneDrive and Icloud.

     

    If you want to run other games, than yes, shell out more money.

    If all you're wanting is to run SWTOR, you don't need a $1200 laptop.

     

    Whether you're running the game with an Nvidia GTX 680 like I am or a GTX 1080 TI, those water-color quality graphics textures in SWTOR aren't going to look any better. They're still low rez with bad UV mapping even with "high quality" textures turned on.

    The return on investment for powerful graphics capability isn't there.

     

    Yes, your experience will be smoother will a more powerful machine, but that comes from multi-tasking other processes running on your computer while playing the game, such as background windows and virus protection updates, Icloud and Onedrive background processes, etc. There's a lot potentially dragging down your system that has absolutely nothing to do with the game.

     

    so what should be my cpu mhz? aproximitly? over 3?
