  1. I still love the game for what it is, people complain that balance is an issue but how I see it is play a class that counters the other. It's nothing but people trying to make pvp something in this game that it clearly will never be, I've played all 3 types of tank heals and dps in this game and tbh they feel balanced. I quit wow because everyone cried that not all the classes have healing spells..... Defeated the purpose of classes being different instead of giving everyone a heal. A rogue healing....... What's the point of being a dps paladin
  2. Tbh it was a learning curve at first but I see what the op is saying. I also wanted a challenge in pvp so I decided to roll and arsenal merc and man if you don't know what your doing you'll get rolled on a merc but if you know how to run circles on people and maintain the utilities and your shield you can reck havoc. You have to los while trying to blow people up its basically playing a marksman hunter and Ret paladin from wow. I love this class and believe it takes a high player level skill to fully understand how to use this class and be lethal in pvp. They have good defenses for how much single damage burst they can do.
  3. As a Juggernaut tank it's all about managing those reliable cooldowns that are gonna keep you from dying. Now from a solo perspective with not much incentive to play well with others I would suggest going Endurance/Power. I suggested because there are plenty of new comers to the tanking world and its a bit of a learning curve on how to utilize the maximum potential someone can accomplish as a tank. For a well experienced player it all depends on the flavor of play style. As an experienced player that performs on the high end in warzones I figured that I'm better off stacking as much power as I could making my augments Power/Endurance. The lack of moves a Jug tank are stuck with makes you reconsider the decision of any other stat in my opinion. My *Major damage dealer* crushing blow can hit at 17-18k on crit, without I'm reaching 8-9ks. I haven't completely switched out of all my mods so I'm still stuck with a few defense absorb and shield chance but I'm sure once they are replaced, that 17-18k might look more like 25k. Why I didn't choose mastery well because I need that assured damage from power to cause harm, without stacking enough power in my opinion is bottlenecking your dps because we aren't a burst class but a sustained damage dealer. If we had burst as a tank then I would rock crit till I die.
  4. It can be challenging... I'm in exactly the same situation... But it is playable, especially if you are mainly playing people in our region due to the times zones... When you really notice it is if you are playing top American pvpers with less than 30ms... You'll know who they are because your abilities just won't activate fast enough or for instance you'll shield, see it go up, but die anyway... So often you have to pop a defence before you should need to, just in case they hit you with X y z

A lot of playing with high Ping is about anticipation rather than reaction... Most of the time if you see someone use an ability, it is too late to react, you needed to anticipate... This can mean a bit of guess work and sometimes your guess is wrong which leads to you using the wrong ability...

The problem for us is if we've had to pop defences early, the other guys with low ping only have to react to that and either counter it or switch targets and wait... It's much easier to read our buffs and debuffs while reacting in real time, this isn't normally an option for us...

You also get some rubber banding and "teleporting" like behaviour that can really make it hard to stay on target or score in Hutt Ball... I've had this happen in Hutt Ball a lot of times, even had the score announcements, only to realise the lag killed me before I scored... The worst ever was when I go the ball from mid, ran to their line, scored with zero opposition, get the announcement, only to realise that I'd lagged in the middle, they'd got the ball and were nearly at our line when "I'd" scored... LoL

DPS output can also suffer if you are in a group of people with lower ping... They've nearly killed the person before your second/third ability goes off... This is where instant abilities are valuable to us... But they aren't always the hardest hitters, so we can lose out on DPS numbers... If you are 1v1, then it's not such an issue because you can do as much damage as you want... Just watch out for those 20ms players trying to 1v1 you... Not only do you need to be as good as them, you actually need to be better to be able to beat them because they have ping advantage...

Ranked is the worst because if you get focused, even getting off one defence can be a miracle and sometimes you need to nearly spam them all at once in the hope that at least one will go off... I've died in Sorc bubble so many times Its ridiculous...

Having a tough skin is useful too against the people with low ping... I find they are usually the ones that love telling everyone they are scrubs and L2P or your DPS was sh*t... I've seen really good players with high ping get trolled by these sorts of people...

Choosing a class that works for you and has some forgiveness if the ping is high is pretty important... If you were to pick a class that had low survivability and long activation times then it will be extremely difficult... Mercs are pretty challenging at the moment if you have high ping... Not impossible, just harder than some other classes

In saying all of that, playing well with high ping is definitely possible... Some of the best players I know have high ping and do exceptionally well...

But to answer your question, yes, people, with 10-30ms ping have a pretty good advantage over people with 220-320ms ping...

Also don't for get the lag spikes as well... While they suck for those low ping people... They are just about a death warrant for us

Please look at my solution on this thread get wow latency fix and it will resolve your ping issue proven for multiple games that are MMOs. so you can show those Americans you got what it takes to finish the job.

  5. Anywho, I came here and just wanted to say, stop beating on my Old Republic life style, I feel like I'm playing the original Kotor, and Kotor2, with a whole bunch of people around me. I'm living the dream its a RPG as well i got my companions, or shall I say my slaves because, I'm a Sith Lord and all.....

1-I want Bioware to keep their promise of always maintaining a server for us fellow RPGers, and to pay a monthly fee for the extra content, either that means adding more items to cartel market great! Some of us actually enjoy this, if anyone has ever played Aion they use a market similar to this but with better rewards and a bit more pricey considering its completely free.

2-I want the content they create free for me as a subscriber because I don't want to purchase new titles from Swtor becauseI'll get them for free at the cost of a membership. Thats killer because I get free content at the expense of 15 dollars which is virtually nothing if you work and can afford it you wont mind it. Thats easily the least amount of money I'd spend at a bar enjoying "myself". I want to enjoy myself through playing my childhood game that is constantly being updated!

3-They offer an awesome companion system that follows you around in story all the way through thin and thick and start to finish. When the odds are against you he'll or she'll will die with you :D unless of course your PvPing there are no companions because you have to bring the inner Stone Cold Steve Austin out and show them whats up because I'm the Darth Malgarios and I'll fight you because I will rule the galaxy! So yeah give me more companions, Oh wait thats what 4.0 is right????.....

-Possibly more professions that would lighten up my day, mind you I've only ever had BioChem, Diplomacy, and Bioanalysis since launch haha.

4-More world event's bring me back to old locations well BECAUSE we are all LEVEL CRUNCHED!!!!! so in reality even though you'll kill those monsters with relative ease it still makes it enjoyable as killing Kath Hounds on Dantooine in Kotor. I enjoy world PvP but its totally up in the air and all...who knows? I like Warzones and I can't complain because I enjoy being a utility box aka PvP tank Juggernaut tank. "You" Have to enjoy the class you play or simply reroll or better have all of them!!??

-A stronger marketings system through the social medias on the interwebs!!! So WE the community can get more people involved and encourage players that do NOT use these the Swtor Forums. I want to address them as a mass, everyone has a voice we are all equal in the keys of the 15 dollars a month if your a subscriber we all get to post on forums!

Swtor is my escape from reality; that is equivalent to fact, of playing the Knights of the Old Republic and falling in love with Bastilla and her awesome Battle Meditation!

  6. You will notice it.....a lot.

Before the last couple of days I always sat just under 40ms. Now for some reason I vary between jumping up to 1000m or lower and dropping to 10 frames per second or lower, or if I'm really unlucky, both at once. It's like watching a movie where your friends see everything and you only get to see every fifth scene. It's doable, but much less enjoyable.

This involves internet connection and server connection, this has nothing to do with your graphics cards rendering capabilities and your processors capabilities of processing. If you'd like help for optimization so you don't suffer low fps reply to me by giving me a list of what your computer specs are

  7. hi all

i am playing from apac region and my ping around 220-300 ms i think it is normal from my region and i am playing from harbinger and i think i do quite well in warzones

but i am just wondering about some american player that can have like 20ms , is the different is huge to make performance different in pvp?

i am talking about ms (miliseconds here) , so is the different is make huge difference in pvp? say can cast faster and such

    anyone know ?

This makes a huge difference from living or dying, the cast bar will be slower on your end and easier to interrupt, what is going on when you hit that button on your keyboard is, your internet is sending a signal to the server and then the server proceeds by projecting the action. Any delay in time is bad, I'm sure we've played fps's and experienced "lag" and hated every second of the rubber banding. There is a fix for this sever delay if your are experiencing these issues, it's called wow latency fix it should bring your ms from 200-300 to 50-100 for me my me remains around 20-30 before fix 250-300. Anything below 100 ms is precise action.

  9. To kill this thread, did anyone take into consideration that maybe the PvP companion is for the PvPers? *HOLY SNICKEYS, IM MIND BLOWN* get real people there is no solution to someone coming into a PvP match with full PvE gear they ether get murdered or they do a hell of a job, and its called working for the gear unlike some of you that haven't been here since launch understand warzone caps of 2000 or reaching a certain valor rank to wear gear and almost every gear piece costing 800-1600 warzone points, I mean come on whats the problem they reduced the prices ten fold, 140-400? This is what honestly brought me back because i wasn't able to keep up and put the time and effort to constant grinding. They made this game too easy for discussions like this.
  10. But to the original thesis that PvP tanking is in better shape now, that is not true. None of the tanks actually got significantly more survivability (mad dash will not save your life). They got more ability to stay on target or to re-engage offensively. Sure, going against scrubs you will feel like a god. But run up against a team that knows how to actually put out damage and you'll go splat faster than before.

With the re-work of critical hits and surge, it is now easier to get extreme hits even taking into consideration the increased health pools. What has changed a bit is that healers can keep tanks upright more easily now which is actually kind of backwards when you think about it. Tanks should be there to keep other classes upright so they can do their job but the tanks are the ones that actually need support to do their job effectively. It was like this in 3.0, but it is worse now.

Mad dash reduces all damage intake which is highly effective and an escape route. Now I've played the game since launch and I'm not new to PvP in any major MMO or have ever had a problem with any class pertaining to the persistent qqs people always have about the balance of the game. i was playing in the level 65 bracket when that situation went down regardless if its a well organized team if the player knows what he is doing he will advocate the fact they can put up one hell of a show when its 1v8 and ultimately taking a scoundrel with me (he shot gunned me twice while saber reflect was up, fairly easy to take him with me). I've been Tank PvPing since launch I believe the PvP is easy and not in the sense to bash on it, so I consider myself a seasoned veteran that has player skills required to handle any situation. Malgarios POT5 Juggernaut. On top of all this I'm anti-healer in the case of needing saving! I ran triple DPS eZ in WoW who needs a healer anyway? (Not directing to coordinated ranked PvP, this is in the sense of casual PvP play and possibly up against a premade group)

  11. I don't think anyone who replied is having trouble using guard. I think we are all "arguing" the same thing. Use guard intelligently to help win the match. Guard a valuable asset that is under attack to help mitigate the effectiveness of focus fire. Swap guard as necessary. Rinse repeat.

ok i felt as if, we were saying its essentially useless to waste time using guard, because the expense would be death from people not doing objectives.

  12. If you don't like getting CC'ed then I suggest to out skill the opposing player or try to negate what they throw at you so you can flip the tide of the war. This concept has always been around and wow cc is awful coming from a 2.2 rated holy paladin that would always get ****ed in a cc from RMP, or WMP and even DSW. Did Vader feel the cc of Emperor Sidious to save his son Luke, yes!!!!! But who won? oh Vader right?
  13. Yep, do all that. But on my shadow I can mezz them to stop the cap without ever coming out of stealth, and then a second time before their resolve is full. Then pop out of stealth to attack, stop their cap, and put up... shoot, I forget the name, but that "glow yellow" ability that basically makes me immune to cc for quite a while, and run around stopping caps while that's up. Then combat stealth, and use mezz again because their resolve will have worn off by then. Gives my team a LOT more time to respond. Plus I haven't even used my cc breaker yet!

On my jugg they start out with the drop on me, and then I have my one cc break, and my short immune after leap, and then that assassin whirlwinds me and I can do nothing but hang there helpless as they cap. I've called already, but my team better respond really fast, or I have to hope an enemy mara comes leaping in to "help" her friend and breaks the mezz on me. :D

I mean its fair to say, each class needs flaws, its how you overcome them which make you the better player. If its really an issue when you feel as if the stealth enemy is close towards the beginning of the match, use in enduring rage i believe the spell is so you gain the force points to use thunderclap or slash *sorry for the wow term lol*. You have to remember you're a walking super star destroyer, but with those shields off a dying A-Wing can take you with it.

  14. I agree with this to some extent. I'm not going to be following the DPS around who is chasing kills all over the place just so I can stay in guard range. Not when I should be staying near the door/turret to stop caps. Or, I'll jump into the fray in AHG, to try to save the DPS who's caught by the enemy and is trying to escape, but if they just wail away with no thought about avoiding their own death (which costs us points) then heck no! No point in both of us dying.

I believe we are off track from helping people with guard. The idea of guard is to save the battle towards the progression of the objective so your team is well defended, I'm not saying follow the null DPS that avoids objectives that hunts for kills. Use guard as a tactic towards objectives, if your defending the nod, door, or database and your outnumbered defend someone so you guys outlast the attack. I rarely even worried about my health because I'm 10k over everyone else and while I do guard I make sure i contribute so that I damage mitigate therefore leaving me well above 75% health and living. Every 4v4 situation in PvP arenas i rarely never drop below 50 percent health due to guard because the damage isn't significant enough to effect all the damage reduction i already have. If dying is the issue because you guarded a player pop saber reflect therefore no damage is being effected to you. This is completely situational and hard to put a finger on the exact issue you tanks are having using guard.

  15. FPS / PERFORMANCE ISSUES SOLVED

So after long searches, sweat, disappointment and QQs to friends and chats i found out my "GODLY" tweak regarding how to boost my performance.

As i said before, i have an i5 new gen core, 960gtx, and game on ssd, i felt it was wrong, having 20~fps on low settings on this pc-setup.

So here are the 3 tweaks i did and i boosted my FPS from 15-25 on LOW-medium ingame settings to 40-70 FPS on Ultra-High Settings.

    1. The most important thing is to realise that this game is hungry for your CPU. So what i did i went to run (windows key+R) typed "MSCONFIG" -> BOOT tab --> Advanced Options and it looked like this : Screenshot. I ve checked the box to Number of processors and selected 4, and also checked the box for Maximize Memory, and then i restarted my pc

    2. After the restart, i lunched the game, and opened Task Manager, searched for the 2 swtor.exe on detalis/apps and right clicked them both and SET : Priority : Realtime (note having other programs opened besides swtor will make them stutter/crush even)

    3. After setting both swtor.exe to realtime priority the next step was to setup the affinity, and split up CPU's cores for each swtor.exe. So i selected affinity for the first swtor.exe and unboxed <All processors> and selected only CPU 0 and CPU 1. For the 2nd swtor.exe i did the same process but now i selected only CPU 2 and CPU 3.

I ve alt tabed back to the game, and i joined a pvp warzone game, and to my surprise i could play it at ultra high settings with having 40-60 fps while in combat, and 70-90 while running/doing stuff alone.

So hopefully you guys will try it and it will work for you as well. I came back and posted this becoz i know how frustrated i was not being able to pvp with decent fps, and besides that the struggle to find a "fps fix" "performance increase" was real for me. :)

    Thanks and happy hunting.

For better fps fixes, install advanced system care for turbo boost, or razor cortex to optimize memory performance when gaming, wow latency fix which helps with lag issues pertaining to the server and when hits are landed, now if your feeling risky i would suggest the force unleashed which optimizes your memory to hold a specific amount of ram for the game itself to increase load times and fps, problem with swtor unleashed is that when it is installed it will tweak file settings in swtor and unsuccessfully deleteing swtor unleashed could cause the game to forever crash until reinstalled or system restoring to an early setting. please pm me if you need any info on basic computer graphic performance updates.

  16. I understand being frustrated with other players, I really do, but as a tank you really should consider, well, tanking a bit more. At least I hope you use your taunts plentifully :)

I agree 100 percent with your statement. Tank- team based, why would you play a tank other wise so you can get slapped around and never achieve top DPS, if your well rounded those medals stack you up to the top?! and that damage reduction for taunts key!

  17. Ha ha. You are so excited!

But, yeah, I just recently finished leveling a jugger tank, and then an insta-60 guardian mirror to have one on both sides. Forever my "main" has been a shadow tank, but I now think I've been maining the wrong class all along. Jugger tanks are so much fun!

As you say... spammable slow, 2 stuns, push, mezz, probably more I'm forgetting right now. 2 leaps, heal to full, new dash for escaping after you left into the mess of enemies and messed them up. But by far the coolest thing is reflecting their own attacks back at those pesky snipers. :D What's not to like?

About the only thing I find lacking in them is being a good solo node guard. I end up doing it all the time anyway, but I have so little "cc resistance" things compared to my shadow (really only leap), plus no stealth, so I'm always on pins and needles waiting for the double operative sap-cap. :(

Now the problem you may be facing is the fact, you aren't trying to flag down your teammates! When I'm defending a node I'm up for a battle, now say i get sapped I immediately report to my team that I need help at "whichever node". Even at the glimpse of enemy targets heading to my node I immediately report what is going on. Learn to save your cc breaker on situations that could be fatal, *sapped* (they are trying to snag the post), bust out of that!!!! aoe cc them and watch them cry while your team comes for the rescue or resume to smash face on one while the other is disoriented with your second cc. The problem is tanking isn't a easy concept in PvP and it tends to be one of the most situational classes, because without our cooldowns we are butter to their PVP grill cheese.

  18. PvP tanking is so bad without a healer. But since there are plenty of healers to go around now, it's not as bad to queue as a solo tank as it was in the past.

If you time things right there is really no need for a healer, I run into multiple warzones without acknowledging the fact if we even have one, "be optimistic in battle and the tide of the war may change, be realistic and falter, because you already know you've lost" Chin up people who needs a healer anyway!!!! Don't get me wrong I'm not blindsiding the fact healers are key to winning but if you realize you have no healers you better try your best to dish as much dps as needed and if you know your losing put up a hell of a fight!

  19. Too few people play as a tank, and of those that do, most are... unimpressive. I rarely see anyone actually guarding let alone swabbing targets and intercedes. Yesterday in lowbies, on my level ~14 hatred assassin I did a whooping 20k protection from simply spamming Mind Control. I was the only one on both teams that had any protections score at all.

I guess people generally find it unsexy and less rewarding than healing, DPS or stealth play.

Why is this? It tends to be a leading trend as if everyone is out for themselves! If you're going to play as a tank you need to realize you can control the notion of the ocean on the battlefield in better terms you are *BASTILLA* with "BATTLE MEDITATION". Now I'm not saying go out there by yourself and get slaughtered by 5 different players, but to realize how to work with the people you are playing with in a Warzone and realize if you cc and protect people your are mitigating damage away from the main DPSERS and HEALERS. While your team manages to slowly eat at there health then you strike with your burst to finish the job to earn that winning kill of the battle! Also, when you have charge you should be jumping on those healers and immediately interrupingt them, that can also change the course of the battle! Please I know you PvP juggernauts are out there!

  20. I have recently gotten back into the game and boy was I impressed with PvP tanking. I couldn't believe how well my Juggernaut was holding up against 8 targets on Void Star Warzone. After the bridge was open I "MAD DASHED" towards their entire team and managed to hold them all off just in time for my left flank *bridge* to take control of the door and plant a bomb. I accomplished this through maintaining my timed cool downs and holding adequate crowd controls as needed. Through the process I took one with me and died from 7 others within a minute time. I couldn't be anymore happier than I ever was with PvP tanking in SWTOR and I feel they are going in the right direction. My problem is, I don't see enough tanks taking advantage of all the utility based skills that could change the course of Warzones. I constantly intercede players in need and consistently switch shield protection when players are taking hits, considering no one wants to attack a tank. i'm also impressed with the sustained amount of DPS output I can manage on targets and when needed give a crushing blow in order to defeat the opponent. I've also been maintaining a good healing output on the leaders boards, and manage to rank top almost every game because how versatile my playing skills can play with a utility based tank. Please if anyone has anything to say, or need help maintaining a Juggernaut tank I'm willing to help!
  21. I'm interested considering you're from WoW It'll be interesting. I'm currently level 19 Sith Juggernaut. I have a level 50 sent and also played during release. Malgarios is my in game, shot me a text so I can get better understanding of your guild via in game or vent.
  22. Not sure how things really work on Pot5. But I did start up republic side on Darth Malak during release and boy has it been awhile. I was hoping to see if anyone has some light to shed on which guilds on pot5 are pretty casual and fun to play with grouping wise and pvp. MMORPGS haven't ever really been a problem but considering I'm in college rarely have time I wouldn't mind joining a friendly Imperial guild that's down to have warzones and dungeon LFGs. Or if anything possibly make a guild and Be causal and enjoy the swtor experience.
