Doesn't matter how old it is. Drivers will always impact performance. Sometimes new drivers cause problems which is why its suggested to go back to older drivers sometimes. The geforce experience software had nothing to do with it. Even with your old driver it would have done the same thing with its "optimal" settings. Its just that the newer driver you installed is more compatible with the game than the old one. So if you ever update the driver again and you have issues again? Guess what, revert to the one you had before.
Interesting. I assumed it was magic.

Bear in mind that the servers are not all in one spot. I'm east coast and The Ebon Hawk gets me about 60ms less latency than does The Harbinger. Don't just select a server based solely on population and pops (though both are high for The Ebon Hawk), but include location into your factoring.

The geforce experience software had nothing to do with it. It was the updated driver that fixed your issues.
I was thinking that, but the driver was only a few months out of date. Could that really have done it?

I had played the game a couple years ago on my old computer, and it ran fairly well. I upgraded my computer this summer.
When I came back this month I noticed the bad fps, and had to set all my graphics settings to less than they were a couple years ago on my old (much slower) computer.
Then just yesterday I downloaded a new graphics driver from Nvidia, along with finally setting up the Nvidia experience. It asked if I wanted to optimize SWTOR, and I said sure. It set everything to the highest levels. I thought when I logged in I would be looking at a slideshow.
But, suddenly, the game runs beautifully and looks gorgeous. It is MUCH smoother now than it was on the lower graphics setting prior to Nvidia doing whatever it did.
I have absolutely no idea what Nvidia did beside turn up the graphical settings, but they did something when I clicked optimize, because the game runs so much better now it's baffling.
An anecdote for you all. I have no idea what actually happened, but it worked perfectly.
edit:
Specs:
i7-4770 3.40ghz
8g ram
64bit
gtx 760
Runs very well on highest settings (since I clicked 'optimize' yesterday).

I have a pretty powerful computer (WoW on ultra with 90ish fps in most areas).
In TOR at low graphics levels I'm at 59-60 fps, but with lots of micro spikes (coined that term possibly) that make for jerky visuals. WZs are basically the same, but with more micro lag spikes. It's playable, but annoying, and just based on pure game specs and computer power, I should be seeing a much prettier, much smoother game.

I'm going to have to bookmark this thread.

This happened to me once, though less drastically. Just two icons moved from their column to a new column. It may have been my first login since coming back when I changed the game's resolution (as the poster above alluded to).

Cool. Thanks.

Probably a very dumb question, but where are basic comm gear vendors? Are they scattered about the worlds, or is there a central vendor in Fleet or somewhere?
-
Is it reasonable to level solely through the story quests and WZs? Am I missing anything big if do this? Will gearing be a problem?

After having spent a year and a half of full time Waiting For Tor, obsessing over every leaked vid and screenshot, then getting into three(!) weekend betas, spending countless hours on the forums (remember the old off-topic?), it was nearly impossible for me to believe that the game was actually about to go live.

I haven't had any problem with mouse sensitivity on my end, so I wouldn't know if there are only four options. What you could do is try to change the mouse sensitivity via the Control Panel (assuming you're running Windows 7 or 8).
This isn't mouse sensitivity, this is camera rotation speed. It's on a slider in the game's Preferences tab.
-
It only gives me four options in the preferences to change the camera rotation speed. 0%-26%-52%-77%.
0% is too slow, but 26% is REALLY fast (slight movement gives me three or four full revolutions).
Is there any way to put it somewhere in between those two? I bet 7% would be good.

Thanks for the info!

Returning player, basically a new player - I know next to nothing about the game in its current state.
It seems Tor is Imp dominated to a huge degree. Is this true? I've watched a few pvp vids and it's nearly all Imp v Imp.
Is there such a thing as world pvp? Is rolling on a pvp server worth it? It looks like the pvp servers have fairly low pops. How does this effect WZ queue times? Do Reps get eaten alive on pvp servers?
Any relevant information is appreciated.

Returning player here too, from WAY back.
So bottom line, for WZs everything is viable. Nice. That means the top and bottom can't be that far apart, and with tuning likely to be soon that all changes.

no earth holidays in swtor please. no convenient sw holidays that happen to fall on earth holidays either. thanks.
-
since '09 i've been asking for RvR in swtor. i'm not giving up the dream.
-
i haven't seen any long queue times yet, but then, i'm a lowbie.
i would rather have the queue times we have now than have the wzs filled with garbage players.
-
lowbie pvp queues are always less than one minute pub side.
-
what do i need these coins for?
-
it doesn't take much for something to be worth 50 cents a day.

I got dc/kicked out of a fp/wz/space. Now I lost my 1 out of 3 allowance for for the week.
BW!!!!! Compensate my lost!!!! refund my money!!!!
oops. I didn't acutally pay anything
lol, or you enter a wz just in time for the score chart to pop up.

if you take pvp out of mmos all the pvpers will have to go out into the real world, and no one wants that.
