  1. I've got a 5 year old Q6600 on a n680 mommy board with 8gb of Corsair xms2 ddr2 800 running a pair of 8800 GTX 640s in SLi powered by a Antec Neo 500 with 3tb worth of samsung spinpoint f3R 7200 rpm sata drives, stuffed into a Antec P182 case. It ran the game at 20ish fps maxed

I replaced the motherboard, ram, and cpu with a freebee server pull a friend from Acatel hooked me up with, An Asus p6n deluxe with a i7 920 topped with a noisy Dynatron cooler and 6gb of triple channel ddr3 1333. I also swaped the duel first gen 8800s with a GTX 660. The game runs at 60fps capped (vsync) at 1920x1080x60 and doesn't get above 40c with forced air cooling

  2. It depends on how you want to approach the paper, I'd recommend picking 3 contrasting schools of ethics, like utilitarianism, and something from Hobbes or Kant, maybe even feminist ethics, then apply them to a series of cases.

An example would be, A imperial officer is about to escape with a bomb schematic that will kill hundreds if not thousands of people if left unchecked, but to make his escape he set the self destruct device for the base. Do you A: go after him and recover the plans leaving a few people to die (DS) or B: Deactivate the Self destruct saving a few people but leaving the galaxy open to random bombings which kill thousands (LS)

For this example, Utilitarianism would say that the dark side approach of leaving the base to die to save thousands of people from random bombings to be the most ethical, as the needs or happiness of the many out weight the needs or happiness of the few. Kant would tell you to do what would gives you the most "joy" which works either way, saving a few now or saving thousands later, it's subjective to the individual. Feminist ethics could support the DS solution also since it calls for the equal treatment of all and a empathetic approach to dealing with decisions, so you would kill everyone in the base and feel bad about it but with all things equal 10 people in the base aren't worth a thousand people someplace else.

In conclusion argue shades of grey for an A, worked for me writing a paper on torture.

  3. problem with the neutral market is that the items are the same for the sith and repubs, but the artwork is dependent on the faction, so an item that looks sweet on a sith looks stupid on the jedi.

Same items and item tables but a simple if sith then awesome model/skin: else poo brown hoodie, statement in the client... means bioware only had to make half the items. It also means that as jedi we cant get any of the cool masks.

  4. also, I don't see what this has to do with World of Warcraft, why put it in the title?

    wow [wou]

    interjection

    1. (an exclamation of surprise, wonder, pleasure, or the like): Wow! Look at that!

    verb (used with object)

    2. to gain an enthusiastic response from; thrill.

    noun

3.an extraordinary success: His act is a real wow.

4.excitement, interest, great pleasure, or the like: a car that will add some wow to your life.

Origin: 1890–95; perhaps identical with Scots wow! exclamation of surprise or admiration

  5. Jawa near speader in anchorhead,

customer "Hey! this driod you sold me is a piece of junk! I want my money back!"

    Jawa "No refunds! You Keep!"

customer "But its busted! Stupid thing's vocabulator broke down as soon as I got home. Won't say a word now!"

Jawa "Vocabulator not broken! Is feature!"

customer "A feature? Don't give me that! What good's a protocol droids if it can't even talk?"

  6. There's always a "best in slot" for your current character build. What that best in slot may be is totally up to you, and how you want your character to work, and crafting makes it possible, because you don't get loot tables with over 9000 different items in them, but instead just a handful of different mats, which are combined by a crafter into the item you want :p

You didn't read the rest of my post... having played nearly every mmo other then wow or rift over the last 16 years (since UO) I understand the concept of tailored gear... and other items..

Crafting should reward the time invested..

Whats the point of crafting for a week to get something that drops 90% of the time in a instance that takes 30mins to run?

With he current mods system all they would have to do is add lvl 50 mods which RE'd to the various purple schematics produce a mod on par with one found in raid and pvp gear...

This would let people tailor raid and pvp gear to their spec (by having mod variety).

Allow the use of oranges and other purples for people to customize their looks (because we don't want to look like everyone else)

Give crafters something to do with their time and money investment

Purple Items are crafted from purple mats which are time consuming and expensive to get..

It would actually complement the current system to allow customization of Raid and PvP sets, and would allow others to setup oranges to similar stats.. Raid, and PvP gear would keep the set bonus's but biowares already said these could be pulled and applied to oranges in the future.

  7. The idea of best in slot, cookie cutter gear is.. meh..

Most good pvp based games have crafted gear equal to most raid an pvp gear to add options to character customization, raid and pvp gear looked different (better) and slightly different procs or effects that was unique to that piece of equipment, etc.. However, Crafted gear was customizable, able to be tailored to a particular play style or build, and was on par with generic epic gear when paired with that tuned build.

Best fix.. let crafters make lvl 50 mods, would let people mix and match oranges and purples and customize them with mods that fit their builds and looks that fit their characters instead of shoehorning everyone into the same stat, same look gear, that everyone will have in a few months due to there not being item attrition.

  8. And that means "most Jedi used red" to you?

Even though plenty of other sources before this time show most Jedi using anything but red?

that's biowares fault for only having a handful of colors, 3 of which are ls/ds locked. I mean.. luke skywalkers wife had a pink saber, han solo's kids had violet, and there's at least 9 different shades of red crystals in the starwars universe that arn't the fake red sith ones. According to some sources the red crystals are more common than blue.

    sauce:

    The New Jedi Order Sourcebook

Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary

Star Wars: Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook

The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology

    all lucas approved cannon sources

  9. And where does it state that Jedi changing from blue or green to red is common practice to the point that most Jedi use red??? Tell me when you find that.....

For millennia, the Jedi Order lit lightsabers in every color and hue imaginable. However, following the Battle of Ruusan, the hues of most available crystals had been limited to either blue or green. Lightsaber color crystals could also be compressed, resulting in a pulsating blade, or they could be unstable, resulting in a core which swirled and sparkled. -wookiepedia

note that the Battle of Ruusan is about 700 years after TOR

and there have been hundreds of thousands of jedi and dark jedi that have used red crystals.. again from wookiepedia, which is just a compilation of cannon sources.

  10. The reason why this whole red saber bit is not in the "lore" is because it isn't worth mentioning. Generally speaking, saber colors do speak for which side of the force the user aligns themselves with. But that isn't 100% true.

More over, saber colors symbolize the wielder themselves rather than their force alignment.

Bioware has even stated that the reason why they chose this particular time setting in the Star Wars universe is because it was wholly left unexplored.

The game is writing its own history and in doing so it is free from the rules of your "lore."

This, the only reason the sith use lightsabers as well as their traditional warblades (vibroswords) is because they were concurred and hybridized by dark jedi about 2000 years before the great hyperspace war... they mainly use red synthetic crystals imbued by the darkside...

At this time most crystals would be harvested from dantoine and would account as to why most basic sabers are blue or green.. but its stated that jedi would use different crystal combinations to change the blades to suit their style, natural red crystals, kryte dragoon pearls, etc. which often altered the color, shape, and intensity of the blade.

  11. That was an offensive by the republic not a choice made by the Jedi, and I'm pretty sure the Jedi refused to fight in the Mandalorian wars, that was just Revan and Malak

Revan, malak and a few hundred other jedi, the Exile was the jedi general who came up with the plan.

as the the great hyperspace war..

"In the aftermath of the battle, Supreme Chancellor Pultimo of the Republic ordered an invasion of Sith space. The Republic and the Jedi Order then embarked on a military expedition throughout the territories ruled by the Sith Empire, to search out all remaining Sith strongholds and destroy them." from wookiepedia

you can also check out he timeline on this sites holonet

  12. That's the kind of Jedi I would want to be. Not petty, or evil, but fair and just. I wouldn't execute someone out of anger or hatred. I'd do it because they needed to die.

According the most sources the old republic served the "greater good" a concept that is utilitarianism at its base.

So in the old republic stories you usually run into the, "it would bring destruction to the repbulic so it must be destroyed" or "this sith guy must be killed because we would kill billions."

This leads to "the needs of the many" while the sith are"the needs of me".. so the jedi are fine with destroying a world or 3 to save the rest of the galaxy.

  13. The jedi are hypocrites aren't they? I thought that was the point.

the jedi 3000 years after the old republic.. ie. movies are space hippies with all the silly protect the weak, respect all life etc rules...

the old republic jedi are the ones who committed genocide by nuking korriban from orbit forcing the sith into unknown space during the great hyperspace wars, and crushed a planet to stop mandolore during the mandolorian wars at malocore, many married those in the order, (Satele has a son, and is decended from Bastila) they just warn that passion, and attachment can lead to the darkside.

  14. This, yes you slaughter alot of people to get to the guy, but those people you killed aren't backing down, they are fighting you tooth and nail.

The guy you finally make it too, either surrenders, or is disarmed somehow, thus your killing an unarmed or helpless person that can no longer defend himself, which is indeed against the Jedi way. /nerdhat.

Thats why you need to plan ahead... carry an extra blaster or two, just in case, because the jedi way says its all good if he's armed.

  15. Lets give every class their own starship!

Something like this for Jedi Knights: http://www.kitsune.addr.com/Y-Wing2.jpg

Something like this for Inquisitors: http://www.collectiondx.com/gallery2/gallery/d/439272-1/SS851907.jpg

Im sure your crew will love you for trying to stuff them into a 2 seat fighter bomber.. but atleast t7 gets to ride in the droid slot in the back...

as for the sfs lambda t-4a shuttle.. unarmed is ok as long as you can fly casually..

  16. They should have durability on items, as it sits, without any sort of attrition everyone will have some form of endgame gear, there will be no point to crafting, raiding, pewing, for new equipment...

Items wear is already in game as part of the dp system, therefore all they would have to do is add durability, ie. how much repair can be done to an item, this way gear wears out. Like it does in most mmos.

  17. It would be better to make the quest count toward taking a objective from the opposing side, a defensible strong point. This would make it where one side must control a strong point in order for the opposing side to cap it and there by completing a quest objective.

Valor based off Valor Ranking, a valor 50 killing a valor 1 would yield 1 vp, vise versa. People killed recently yield no vp with vp split among the group/op makes it similar to the daoc rp, aion ap, rfo rank, etc systems. Would allow the lower ranking side to catch up, also discourage the zerg and encourage small group "gud fightz" for high valor tiers.

Crafting.. Allow crafters to make gear thats useful in pvp, in most pvp based mmos like, daoc, aion, rfo, L2, and even ones like atlantica, crafters make the best end game pvp gear. It's stupidly expensive to make, often requires multiple crafters, usually requires friends or a guild support and can take a week to make. However it would allow another alternative to pvp gear, and help brigde the gear gap (should of been a cosmetic option / status thing and not the end all of gearing)

    This would:

    Discourage portal fort camping

    Encourage some small group action

Offers an alternative to zerg on mini zerg

    stuff

    more stuff
