  1. I have posted some of these before. Maybe it will help assassins/shadows get noticed, maybe not. At this point I don't have much interest in the game and have cancelled my subscription. Good luck to all.

Note 1: I do not know what time frames you are defining as "spike" so I'll just post things that are around 5s or less.

Note 2: I do not have parses of Kephess because any 16-man guild would be completely retarded if they thought an assassin could tank on that fight in any other capacity than lightning debuff *****.

    Ok I'm bored now.

  2. Just wait for the snipers on Thrasher :D

*Shrug* 16-man Thrasher hits for 24k... on hard mode. Haven't got to him on nightmare yet. I'm sure it's something completely ridiculous.

Not going to post any more numbers. If the devs haven't seen them already their eyes are closed. I'm rapidly losing interest in the game. I don't have dps gear or another character to raid on, so for me it would be the end. Given the length of time it takes for anything in this game to be fixed it's not worth waiting (e.g. jugg tank threat, bubble stun, mercs in pvp, etc). I left WoW because tanks were always getting trucked and healers had infinite mana... hmm sounds familiar. I'm 100% certain everything can be cleared with an assassin, but what's the point?

  3. Sorry to bring this to the top again. I just wanted to show a few more numbers so people can see what assassins are facing.

    Assassin - 72s with a couple 75s - NM WH 16-man

19:53:57.597 229s Melee Attack 10597 kinetic No The Writhing Horror

    42388 damage in 1.403 seconds = 30212 dtps.

Is this really intended? I didn't die so I guess it's not the end of the world; probably gave the healers a heart attack though. Obviously an unlucky streak but... it can happen. So I guess I just cross my fingers every fight and hope the dice are nice to me.

  4. Guardians are the outright best for anything I/E and not just because they have the best I/E DR. Shadows have 23% I/E DR (10% buff + 2% talent + 2% set bonus + 9% talent for Shadows) and 2% resist chance (from talent). Guardians have 24% I/E DR (10% buff + 5% talent + 6% stance + 3% GS) and 5% resist chance (from Riposte). VGs have 19% I/E DR (10% buff + 5% stance + 2% talent + 2% talent) and 2% resist chance (from set bonus).

The idea was to be able to force shroud when a spike of damage came in.

All of these events were either not really spikes, or didn't have much to do with failed def/shield rolls. Maybe I'll get unlucky on Tuesday and take some real spike damage, we'll see. But for now, I'd have to say I disagree that vanguards/powertechs are getting spiked for 38k.

    16-man.

  5. My feeling is that assassins are performing below average, not just in burst scenarios but also general (high-level) tanking. Some of this is because juggernauts just seem to be so damn good right now. Not sure how they get nearly the same mitigation as powertechs but have more and better cooldowns. Sure there was a problem when the difference in mitigation was a couple % (1.2-ish era) - now the difference is more like 15% once buffs are up.

Burst has been a problem in 16-man since EC nightmare was released. It didn't get much attention because all tanks were pretty equally vulnerable to being bursted down and keeping the tanks alive was like the 3rd most difficult problem to solve on Kephess.

Now for some numbers. This is from NM writhing horror, assassin with 72s. Total damage taken in 3 seconds is 49260. Luckily the damage was front-loaded and healers were able to react in time. At this time I did not have hollow or med-kit available because I had burned it on an earlier burst of 39601 in 3 seconds.

20:32:55.306 105s Melee Attack 10620 kinetic No The Writhing Horror

20:32:56.238 106s Nasty Bite 3650 energy No The Writhing Horror

20:32:56.238 106s Nasty Bite 6875 energy No The Writhing Horror

20:32:56.260 106s Nasty Bite 6875 energy No The Writhing Horror

Looking at powertechs/juggernauts it seems the highest burst phases are about 38k in 3 seconds on the same fight. It matches up with the expected ~30% difference in mitigation.

My thoughts are that some bosses should be changed in the way they do damage. For example, nasty bite is split into 3 which is good. But maybe take half that damage and create a DoT (internal bleeding) that ticks for 6 seconds. This would put more pressure on powertechs/juggernauts relative to assassins. Even then I feel assassins should be bumped up to ~40-ish % DR.

  6. This is in place to prevent exploitation of lockout-based bosses. It's probably not worth coding different looting behaviour for farm-able bosses.

In case people are interested the exploit is to whittle the boss down to very low hp and then have everyone except one person exit area or die and release. The lone person finishes off the boss and takes all the loot. Then he leaves the ops and a fresh person joins and rinse and repeat. Using this method you could farm gear 16x faster if you had enough people to sub in and out.

  7. I wasn't caught up in this but I generally side with the players on these issues. For something that is entirely the fault of the developer the punishment should be restricted to removal of unintended benefits. For example, the crystals could be removed and then let players create tickets to restore any crystals that they destroyed in the process. Alternatively players could choose to pay whatever cartel coins in order to unlock it account wide and not be rolled back. Mistakes happen but in this case I don't think players did anything unreasonable.

This really shows the importance of getting every update on the PTS. I am certain that someone would have found this if it had been up a week before live. BioWare really needs to step up the quality of their code. I was hoping that every patch, major or minor, would have as many bug fixes as 2.0.1.

So basically my suggestion is to get *every* patch on the PTS. I realize that's a lot of work but you will have to do that work anyways and more by deploying bugs to live.

  8. I know ppl said TFB is useless to keep progression which i completly agree, since its way too easy. But i see it still listed. Friday the 19th April 2013 @ 10:23pm EST, Dark Eclipse Finished 16 man TFB HM.

Then again just posting since its in the progression chart, but tbh this is too easy now, lol.

As for S & V 16 Man HM only 1 Night of entering it

Dark Eclipse is already listed under TFB progression for our original kill date.

However, I don't see us listed under EC progression - I believe this got lost in the transition. Dark Eclipse killed 16-person EC nightmare Kephess on March 29, 2013. Apologies for not having a screenshot but we do have a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=n9kBH5yHQYg.

  9. Grump you are in Torva nex? So wed be on the same server have you noticed this on Jedi Covenant?

I'm on JC and we have one deception assassin. Since the nerf to 16-man Stormcaller and Kephess there aren't any strict dps checks in the game so it doesn't matter a lot. That being said it is preferential to bring pretty much any other dps class on live and it will get worse in 2.0.

    - Madness does OK on live but looked terrible on PTS.

    - Deception/madness have virtually no aoe dps to speak of. (5 target death field is an improvement I guess)

    - Decepetion will be relatively better in 2.0 but has to use force cloak to maximize dps, making one of the better utilities unavailable (out of combat res).

If there are any strict dps checks in 2.0, assassins will be the first to drop. Keep in mind that a very popular dps class (powertech) will not be utterly amazing in 2.0 so there will probably be reasonable competition for raid spots. It doesn't change the fact that marauders are still the best dps class and best dps utility (bloodthirst).

  10. Nice kill guys, hopefully you're thinking about becoming an active guild during progression coming in 2.0 and NiM after. While I do think this is one of the cleanest kills I've seen, saying that a death is ok because of mistake doesn't really make sense. Almost every death results from a mistake lol ;)

Thanks. I do agree the title is not appropriate, not only because of death but because of the low dps on that attempt. I guess everyone was a little excited after getting this kill. :D

With our raiding schedule I don't think we will challenge for progression kills but definitely we will continue to run 16-man and hope that more guilds will field 16-man teams in RotHC. Good luck to all in 2.0.

  11. And what's to stop me from refusing to give the item anyway? I rolled fairly for it in your way of doing things, why should'nt I be allowed to keep it? After all I have decided that no matter what reason you give, my need always trumps yours!

As long as the need/greed/pass system exists there is potential for abuse. Nothing can stop that - not even "society".

At this point I think we can say that we disagree. Maybe in the future BioWare will switch to a "bag of crap" solution, that is utterly boring but prevents conflicts.

Edit: Just to be clear, my distaste for all these "social conventions" is that they are complicated, ambiguous, and don't actually solve any problems at all. In other words it's a pointless waste of time.

  12. In the event that i wish to take something that most people would expect me to hit greed on i always ask them if i can hit need. Most of the times they say sure, other times someone says "I need it"

And I'm saying that in this case just hit need. If you lose the roll, you lost. If you win and someone says they need it more, then trade it to them. Simple.

  13. Okay. As far as im concerned my wants always trump your "needs" so I'll just click need on EVERY SINGLE THING without even thinking about it and when you /w me for an item i won:

"please can i have that armour, it will give me +48 endurance +36 mainstat, +12 critical rating, +22 surge rating. whereas you cant even equip it "

I will just respond with a simple "NO" m'kay?

So the only reason you wouldn't hit need on everything is the fear of punishment?

Look, all I'm saying is that there are other reasons to need gear other than for upgrades. If you're on your 40th run of a flashpoint looking for something for Kaliyo, then yeah go ahead and need it. If you need on everything I certainly won't think highly of you.

  14. Well, fair enough. Now, this has been my experience in the pugs I've run:

    1. Kill mob

    2. Loot drops, someone clicks it.

    3. Glance over stats, not an upgrade, greed.

    4. Oooh, upgrade, need.

    5. Move on.

When all the players in the instance have this idea, there's no stress, and things go quickly.

Same here. The only loot dispute I have personally been involved in was actually over me NOT rolling need on a piece of gear. The poor player was forced to trade me back the gear I had passed on in order for the other players to continue the run. Weird huh?

  15. Looking past some of your other posts in this thread, I gather this is your viewpoint (please correct me if I've gotten this wrong)

    1. You, as a player, have decided what you consider you Need and what you don't.

    2. You don't force your opinions on others.

    3. You don't want someone else to force their opinion on you.

    4. If your decision happens to include the fact that your companion needs it, what's the problem?

    Is that correct?

Yep, except I personally don't believe that a companion has priority over player. What I want is for people not to flip out over the initial roll. No one should be scared of reprisal because of how they roll. If there is a problem, take it up after in chat or whispers. And always keep an open mind (some people are RPers or don't speak English well, etc.) Sometimes it's best to just let things go.

  16. So... after failing reading comprehension you're back to just saying random stuff again. Is there a cure for that?

    Your way =

How does this eliminate "loot whore in 2 seconds"?

Let me take a really crazy, wild guess... you don't work in any capacity where you have to respond logically to people.

I'm not sure why you are personally attacking me. Anyways, I reject as reason "society says so". What a terrible argument. Tell me what's so great about your system and I might agree. The OP was perfectly correct to roll need. There is not enough information to decide if he made a mistake by keeping the loot (in all likelihood no one needed it and they kicked him for spite). He certainly made a mistake by posting a thread here.

  17. Or, should your mind reading device run out of batteries and you find yourself confused on the loot rules, you could...COMMUNICATE with your teammates! I know it may come as a surprise, but the chat box on your screen wasn't just added so that you can hurl insults at people. No mind reading required.

I have suggested this in every loot-rage thread I have responded to.

The main difference between me and everyone else here is I want the loot roll over and done with right away. Other people want the loot roll to be done absolutely correctly the first time, which means everyone has to stop what they're doing and wait around. At least my way you find out who is a loot whore in 2 seconds rather than 2 minutes.

  18. Excellent we have gone beyond SWTOR and are now discussing a hypothetical game where everyone gets a copy of the same item...

And have proceeded into a game where people who need upgraded gear through content are slackers...

    please continue...

Great attitude. You must have many friends...

To all the folks who use the "I'm carrying XYZ" argument - please feel free not to carry anyone.

If you're that leet, run the content by yourself.

If you can't run it by yourself, you needed that other person to finish the content - ergo no carrying done... thank you very much.

Don't ever think you can group with someone and then deny them upgrade loot because in your mind, you're carrying them.

Perhaps a new system is needed then?

Because the system that is advocated by you is:

    A) Use a mind-reading device to determine if the other people in the group think you can hit need.

    B) Should you not correctly predict the thoughts of other people (or you ran out of batteries for your mind-reading device) you are immediately branded a loot ninja, kicked from the group and ignored, followed by harassment on the fleet.

    Yep, that's a great system.

  19. Ideally, there indeed wouldn't be any player interaction regarding loot distribution. Simply give the same piece to everybody. The BOP Flashpoint loot isn't really that valuable to roll need for vendoring anyway. And I've never met anyone in game who kept all his or her companions geared, so simply giving everybody who's present the exact same item would definitely solve that problem as well, and make playing with other companions more worthwhile. Since an undergeared companion simply IS a POS.

Still, I only roll need for the cosmetics anyway, whether it's for myself or a companion, doesn't matter to me.. I'm not one of those slackers who needs gear from leveling flashpoints for the stats. I can make way better myself, and generally am already wearing way better than what those flashpoints would provide me.

So I end up rolling need on maybe 5% of all the loot, simply because I like how it looks, and plan to use it either myself or on a companion. The other 95% is PASS. I don't even bother to greed on it, it's soo not worth it.

Got a problem with my smuggler getting that heavy aim gear? Too bad, if you needed it for the stats then I was probably already carrying you, so stop the complaints. Be glad that you may end up with something for one of your undergeared companions instead.

Another great suggestion. I only see people complaining about loot in group finder, and that is exclusively for leveling and story. I don't think it matters if everyone gets a copy of the loot. It does in HM/NM ops though, don't want gear flooding to invalidate progress.

  20. With this a a guideline may was well just have the system auto roll for every drop. Cause I want is I want. wither it

is to sell it or want ever. I want credits to get them I can sell drops, thus I want it. Crud in the inventory is not an issue for those that tote along a legacy repair droid. fills up, pull him out empty and you got lots of room to sell after the FP.

The vast majority of people are honest and will not do such a thing. And yes, auto roll is also a good suggestion. Unfortunately this has already been eliminated from the game in the one place where it was most useful (story mode ops). Funny thing is it's the same system as WoW LFR, Diablo 3, GW2 and no one has a problem with it because they hide what other people win. This reinforces my belief that greed is the root of this problem - hide what other people win and suddenly the problem goes away! Magic!

Edit: Just to be clear I am not advocating such a system everywhere - only in automatically created groups.

  21. So "sell it" is not any reason ? ;)

And all reason is equal to each other ;)

In my mind I have a clear vision of what is need - but I do not force that on other people. So yes, all reasons are equal. It's a good thing items are no longer bound right away. It gives a chance to fix it.

  22. If you feel that you actually DO understand and are merely proposing a new more efficient way - please feel free to explain said new way in more words than "if you want it press need" which doesn't address what want encompasses in a fair way to everyone and what the button labelled "greed" as well as the pass button do in your new system.

    Thanks for asking!

Need = I want it (any reason!)

    Greed = I want to sell it/I don't care

Pass = I don't want crud in my inventory

At this point anyone can lodge an appeal, although people who greeded or passed shouldn't have any objections. This eliminates the common scenario where all the people roll greed/pass and then one person says "oh do you mind if I take..." which ends up wasting time. It also gives people a chance to get loot for odd reasons without slowing down the group. "Oh man, that would look fantastic on Kaliyo". "Dude I need that for my RP set... err /ooc". I am willing to bet that quite a few people have lost a greed roll and stayed silent because they did not want to slow down the run even though they knew that the item was going to be vendored.

  23. OK I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that the buttons are labelled precisely for this reason - so we can assign meanings to them.

As opposed to having say a pink button and a blue button or two grey buttons with randomly changing hieroglyphs...

Why not take a time out and actually think about your position rather than just typing random contradictory stuff?

I think you need to go back and read my posts again. I was proposing that people hitting need in cases where they want something will lead to more efficient loot distribution. Unfortunately some people could not get past the fact that need is written on the label, so I suggested that they pretend that there were no labels at all. Or if you wish, pink/blue or random hieroglyphics.
