  1. From a gear standpoint you are shooting yourself in the foot by not picking a side while you are leveling. At endgame you can go back to neutral if you dont care about titles or have items that dont require light or dark. The developers have included no rewards in the game that honor the neutral fence-sitter, and at least for early relics force you to be the good or bad guy.
  2. Yeah, "don't" is the most simple advice.

Soloing it just makes it five times as long as it should. You'll make more use out of Mako, Kolto Infusion, and On the Trail more than you will elsewhere, with one or two death runs.

  3. Well Mandalorians have been allied with the Empire for a long while. In the Tales of the Jedi comics, Ulic Qel-Droma defeated Mandalore in a duel to the death. He spared him for his loyalty and support for his future campaigns. After the disappearance of Mandalore when Exar Kun and Ulic were defeated, another Mandalorian took the title of Mandalore, and they have pledged themselves to the Empire for further generations. So that makes a little more sense why you are more "loyal" to the Empire than the Republic after the end of chapter two. During the first chapter you obviously are driven by credits and the Great Hunt, which is run by Mandalorians.
  4. I never advocated for dropping it, only that I felt it wasn't a necessary "must have, do or die, 'oops I divided by zero'" factor. It offers no benefit to intentionally drop it, agreed. But what other benefit besides a free shot does it provide? No increase to damage, only heat mitigation.
  5. The entire set isn't necessary, only the two piece is. If you find that you are having difficulty with your heat management then it is a good thing to have. So really right now since everything can be augmented, your choice is style over set bonus. If you are comfortable running around in Rakata style gear then just focus on augmenting and then black hole mod optimization.

I learned to manage my heat much better after losing the free railshot just as they screwed with our heat management in the rotations, and as such only use vent heat when down the home stretch on an operations boss. With practice without the free railshot, you'll find yourself fighting more efficently in no time.

  6. Only advantage to running in full campaign is that you dont have to spend as many BH comms and you can put the armoring on social gear to customize your appearance more. The same stats can be acquired through BH gear (Minus main hands). Either way your going to have to change out alot of mods/enhancements.

Though going through the armorings of the campaign eliminator's gear you lose 33 aim from head, pants, and chest when compared to the best in slot armorings from black hole gear.

  7. After getting my campaign pants in Denova tonight I realized that the set bonus is associated with the armoring and not necessarily the shell like it is for Tionese, Columi, and Rakata. If I wanted to reclaim my full eliminators set bonus via campaign gear, I'd have to take a small but noticable hit in aim. Most of my gearset now is a mix, with the armoring of the highest aim value and the mod and enhancement from the med-tech boots.

Occasionally on Drooga's Pleasure Barge, I see some of the mercs in "higher progression" guild's, such as Motion, running around in full campaign sets. I don't get why they are doing this (aside from the bragging rights.)

Am I simply missing a bigger picture to getting the full set of campaign after spending a good amount of grinding to mix-match black hole pieces? Besides getting two 61 barrels, more BH comms, and accessory upgrades, do mercs need to even bother upgrading to campaign?

I know I' may have answered my own question above but I'd rather hear a different point of view than my own on merc gear.

  8. I changed up my characters canon a bit because the server swap took my original name.

    Bounty Hunter:

    Bounty Hunter:

Feeling mentally exausted after "liberating" Corellia and defeating Darth Tormen, Venus returns to her home planet of Balmorra where she originally was an an adopted orphan. Distancing herself from her Imperial and new Republic contacts, she focuses more on helping rebuild civilian zones and less on tracking down wanted fugitives. After a village was attacked by Hutt cartel gangsters for weapon storehouses forgotten underground, Venus took up her blasters to wipe the danger out. During the counter-attack into the Hutt stronghold, she saved the life of an imperial agent named Krask. After pulling him out and back to the village for medical care, he promises to repay his debt. A few weeks later she recieves an encrypted data packet labeled "Alaris." Her real name was Kathleen Alaris and she has a sister who is a high ranking Sith Lord. Her mother was a Jedi that was cut down in her prime by a bounty hunter named Carik, who is still alive and operating in Republic space. Driven with a new name and lead, Kathleen Alaris and Mako head out to Tython for new clues into her mother's demise.

    Mako:

After the death of the "other" sisters, Venus lets make know that she considers her a sister and family. Mako returns with her to Balmorra to help with rebuilding. After Venus take on her real name, she offically adopts Mako as a sister and they both head to Tython.

    Gault:

Finally catches back up with his old squeeze and leaves the ship after making off with a sizable portion of the reward from saving the supreme chancellor. They recontinue their life of heists and scams. After robbing too many Hutts, they are hunted down on an outer rim territory. Surrounded, they go out in a blaze of glory that is still sung to this day in cantinas everywhere.

    Torian:

Kathleen and Torian tried to make their partnership work, but after she went back to Balmorra to settle down he couldn't adjust. Continually leaving her to go off on hunts and raiding parties against the Republic, they decided to call it quits and go their seperate ways. Occasionally he would take missions that would cause him to venture near Balmorra, but could never courage a trip to see her. One mission on Quesh would result in Torian trapped in a gas mine for two days with a sabotaged ventalation system. The overall exposure would render his vocal cords useless. His later successes on the battlefield had him known among Mandalorians as Torian, Havoc's Silent Vanguard.

    Blizz:

The silly Jawa followed Kathleen to Balmorra despite being dropped off on Tatooine, much to Kathleen's surprise when she went to deal with an intruder in her village that just happened to be Blizz. Dancing underneath piles of junk, all she heard was the gleeful cheer of Blizz yelling, "Blizz loves fixing things for boss! Yay! Blizz fix!" He remains on Balmorra while Mako and Kathleen head to Tython, as someone keeps giving him something new to fix every day.

    Skadge:

Booted off of the first port they landed, Voss. With no criminal underworld contacts on the planet, and a confrontation with a Voss mystic and her bodyguards, he was forbidden to leave Voss-Ka. He took a measley job in the Republic's cantina as a bouncer, and regrets every day he set his foot aboard Kathleen's ship.

    Droid:

Restraining bolt bought that heavily restricted its voice box. Still serves faithfully on the ship, just a lot more quietly.

    Sith Inquisitor:

    Darth Althena:

After her rise to the Dark Council, she discovered a new passage in the Dark Temple that lead to the chambers of the late Lord Feraj, a sorcerer known for his mastery of using the Force to locate and affect anyone in the galaxy at will. After spending countless weeks inside the temple, she was ambushed by the hidden spirit of the sorcerer. In an act of quick desparation and to avoid him taking over her body immediately, she bound his spirit to her. She absorbed his power, including the unique Force power, although severly limited. She now slowly fights a losing battle against his mental assaults while she uses the Force to hunt down and kill Jedi and Republic leaders from afar. She eventually loses the battle six years later, ordering Khem Val to kill her just as Lord Feraj took over her body. She never was able to meet her sister or even know her real heritage.

    Khem Val:

Stuck by his new master's side, as if he had a choice. Killed Darth Althena by her orders as she lost herself to a powerful Sith Lord.

    Andro:

During her short stay on the Dark Council, Althena presided over several responses to pirate attacks on the imperial border. After she found out that the pirates were affiliated with Andronikos, she ordered him to be interrogated by the Sith. He refused to give up their hideouts, and was killed during intense interrogation torture.

    Ashara:

Althena never completed her training, as she focused more on Xalek. She was sent to Korriban for advanced martial training, and recieved Overseer Harkun as an instructor. It was only a matter of time before she killed Harkun for his behavior, and led a small student revolt against her other instructors that was fueled by her anger. It was violently put down, with all but Ashara executed. She was sent to Dromund Kass, where she was sealed inside a tomb. She never lost her sanity, but died due to starvation.

    Telos:

Telos attempted many times to begin a romance with Althena, given their common interest in artifacts. During a trip inside the Tomb of Kallig, he accidently leaned against a statue that tipped over and smashed over several other talismans that she had recently dug up. He had been trying to flirt with her as it happened. Trying to make up a feeble excuse for his actions, Althena took him by the forehead and shocked him with just enough power to make him braindead. He continues to remain on life support in Kaas City.

    Xalek:

After finishing his training, he was made a Sith Lord, much to the protest of other members of the Dark Council. After the betrayal of Malgus was thwarded, he left for Ilum to rally what was left of the Kal'eesh forces under his banner. He lead them against several Republic targets with high success.

    Droid:

Destroyed. Used for saber practice by Xalek after it tried to wash his robes without his permission.

  9. In the recent podcast for The Old Republic, one of the speakers says that there was Dread Master involvement in the Karagga's Palace operation. (Podcast Episode II)

Jesse: So it’s continuing the story of the Dread Masters which we started with Karagga’s Palace and continued in Denova. It’s sort of a dark, almost Lovecraft-inspired thematically, Operation.

Am I wrong or did they completely miss the mark with their own content? I don't remember and see absolutely no Dread Masters surrounding the KP operation when I run it every week.

  10. As a player on a lower end laptop, I am able to enjoy the game on the lowest of the low setting without much complaint. I know that I am missing the glamor of the neon lights on Nar Shadda, but there are several graphical issues that irritate me constantly.

I'd like to suggest that in a future patch after 1.3 an option to turn off more of the "smoke, fire, and dust" atmosphere of The Old Republic. Examples of what I am refering to are:

    - Planetary horizons such as Belsavis or Hoth

I don't particularly care for the mountain in the skybox I can't go to. If it'll help me be able to move around the planet without having to look at the ground while I am on a speeder, I can live without a background.

    - Visible horizon

Taking a page from World of Warcraft was the ability to reduce the distance you saw off into the horizon. This would help speed graphics up for lower-end users.

    - Asteroids and other cosmic debris

I only have a couple space missions I am able to complete due to the amount of crap floating in space that bogs down my graphics. If we were able to reduce the amount of debris, particles, asteroids, the minefield nebula, and planetary backgrounds from the low orbit missions, lower-end users would be able to participate in those missions more.

    - Weather effects

On every ice planet you can visit in The Old Republic, you have snow drifting due to wind. I can tolerate it while on Ilum and Hoth while leveling, but during an operation such as the first boss on the Eternity Vault, my FPS dibs to about 8 when a snowdrfit hits me while I am being hammered by the missiles. I would like to be able to turn this feature off. Yes, I know that the planet is cold. Yes, I can see there is snow. No, the snow does not help me at all.

    - Less "smoke, fire, and dust"

Pretty much your obvious stuff. Explosions, smoke, contrails, kolto clouds. This is more for PvPing for me, as the amount of action going on reduces my FPS and I'm practicaly worthless in a fight.

    Thank you.
