  1. Glad to hear this has at least been acknowledged. I haven't played my SI in weeks because after months looking forward to finally getting the gear I wanted for him, he only got to wear his mask+hood combo for a couple of missions before this bug appeared.

Also adding my vote on the Kallig's Countenance issue. I was really excited to get that mask and then so disappointed to find it couldn't be worn with a hood as shown in the codex. Given the story significance, my SI would never take that damn mask off if it would only combine with a hood. As it is, though, it just makes him look like a dork :(

  2. For what it's worth, non-companion SGR could still be plenty more than 'just throwaway flirts'.

Taking the lady smuggler as an example since she gets my favourite NPC romances, and using a spoiler tag because vague smuggler spoilers:

I would only dismiss one of the smuggler's NPC romances as a 'throwaway flirt' and that's Skavak, because it is literally one flirt option and a kiss. But other than that there are three mini-romances (Lenn Teraan, Numen Brock and Lokir-Ka) which, sure, don't quite match up to a companion romance but still span the whole planet's quest chain, have varying degrees of story relevance and plenty of good interactions. They range from no-strings-attached (Lenn) to OH GOD MY HEART (Lokir-Ka). And then of course there's Darmas whose romance lasts the entire storyline and is arguably of more story relevance than any of companion romances I've yet seen, albeit without the happy ending.

Anyway! Point is, if Makeb's SGR interactions match up to some of the 'better' non-companion romances in-game, they might not be so bad. I've no idea if they will! But I'm hoping...

Really, what I want is all of the romanceable companions available for either gender (surely they can't be oblivious to the fact that, given NO SGR romance options to date, a lot of us have inevitably ended up wanting our characters to romance the companions they've already formed relationships with?) But whatever, for now my point is: Makeb's SGRs MIGHT be more than just a flirt option or two. They might be nice mini romance stories. Might.

  3. Oh, I feel ya, OP.

Bit of a ramble incoming, because tbh this is my absolute favourite part of the storyline, largely because it tore my heart out and stamped all over it and apparently I'm an emotional masocist.

Apologies for the incoming word avalanche. I'll put it in spoiler tags because I'm bound to get carried away.

Just as a note: my smuggler actually did have something going on with Darmas throughout... and she was never exactly a shining light for the Republic, but I guess the general feeling is the same :p

When the truth came out, I think my smuggler pretty much felt the same as you've described. I mean, the PC begins the story as "not much", really - just another lowlife, small-time smuggler, all confidence and bravado but not a lot of substance behind the bragging. But from when they meet Darmas, everything begins to change. They build a crew, they build alliances, they can even start to build a full on criminal empire. They're charming and manipulating and outwitting people left, right and centre. Suddenly they can walk and talk like they own the place and actually back it up.

And then they find out that none of it was real. Everything they thought they'd achieved - everything they thought they'd become - was just one huge, elaborate lie. And the worst part is, they're not just nobody again - they're worse! They're betrayed, and humiliated - They're just "that idiot captain".

Hell, Bioware. I never expected the smuggler storyline to turn my character into a hero, but I never expected it to break her.

But I gave it a few days, and thought about it a while, and I figured, you know what? This is what the smuggler makes it.

Yes, this could undo everything. It could send the smuggler right back to where she began, or maybe even further. Things might never be quite the same - that endless confidence would remain shaken, that bravado thin - she wouldn't have allies and she'd never trust like that again and she'd know it had been proved that she wasn't smart or perceptive or ruthless enough to be the person she had thought she was.

    But there's another option.

She could embrace everything she's become, even if it was for the wrong reasons - for the wrong people.

Yes, Darmas had her fooled. He was damned good and he had her hanging on his every word and running to his beck and call, but he's made a mistake.

He's given her a taste of what she can be.

He expects her to slink back now to her old life in humiliation and defeat, but now's her chance to prove that she's more than he thinks she is; that she's more than his puppet.

Because all those things she's been doing out there? Those weren't lies:

The fortune she built was for the wrong people, but it was real.

She's built a gosh darn criminal empire on stolen imperial shipments and indebted smugglers. She's taken over pirate cartels and built alliances with Hutts and Gormak and resistance factions all over the galaxy.

Darmas and Dodonna and the Voidwolf have shown her what she can do.

And now's her chance to show them.

Now's her chance to prove to them, and to anyone who ever hears how they used her, and most importantly to herself, that she is smart and determined and ruthless enough to be the person they had her thinking she was.

And she can start by hunting them down and proving that no one will ever get away with betraying her.

    Oh. Phew.

    Sorry about that.

The RP-er in me went a bit crazy about this whole twist in the story.

    I hated it at first.

    Now I think it's perfect.

  4. Female Smuggler has five NPC-romance options. I'll put them under spoiler tags if you want to know who they are:

Darmas Pollaran (Coruscant, but affects interactions through the whole rest of the story too)

    Lenn Teraan (Alderaan)

    Skavak (End Act I)

    Numen Brock (Balmorra)

    Lokir-Ka (Voss)

There are a handful of other NPCs you can flirt with a bit as a female smuggler, but those are all of the ones (in so far as I know) that go anywhere.

  5. My friend romanced Risha with a male Smuggler - He avoided his opportunity to propose... will put the result in spoiler tags just in case:

Later, Risha pretty much proposed to him. My friend's Smuggler now politely pointed out he's not really marriage material, and would hardly make a good king, anyways. Risha agreed that he was probably right.

With the storyline complete and Risha at max affection, they are still very much in a relationship, not looking at marriage, and Risha is considering maybe not pursuing things on Dubrillion any time soon, either. (A life of crime is more fun.)

I certainly can't speak for all the companion romances, but long story short, yes, in some of them at least the relationship will continue even if you don't go down the marriage route.

  6. Annoying thing number two - and this is probably the biggest - is of course that he's the only possible romance option for a female smuggler. Sure, I get to flirt with some NPC's, but there's no longevity or story there. Despite being straight, I'm really eyeing Risha in a very meaningful way.

    ...

God, I'd romance Guss Tuno if I could!

Oh, believe me, you're not the only one! :p

As for the NPC romances - don't write them off too soon.

I've followed the companion romance arcs with a couple of other classes and my friend plays a male smugler who romanced Risha so I've followed that too, but as far as emotionally-immersive storylines go, for me, nothing's matched up to my smuggler's relationships with Darmas Pollaran and Lokir-Ka.

In a way, I'm almost glad female smugglers don't get a 'good' (imo) companion romance - I'd hate to have missed out on those NPC stories.

(As for those questioning the point of in-game romances, or why some of us find them worth debating: For me, personally, playing a good game is like watching a good film. It's not about living vicariously or self-inserting into the player character - it's about watching a huge, epic, involving story unfold. Some of us like a bit of romance in a story, and there's no reason it belongs less in a story-driven game than in a movie or a book. At least it's optional, so each to their own, eh? :) )

  7. Compared to that.... suffering "hayseed" Corso as a companion (not lover) seems like a lesser burden - I have many obnoxious yet skilled colleagues at work (many are like T7 or Bowdar, down to the personal hygiene) , who I'd never ask out for a date, but can work alongside quite well. And frankly I find the deep and raw need for fulfilling romantic fantasies via your online Avatar shown by some people on this thread .....worrisome ?

There is a difference between self-insertion and roleplay.

It's true that I don't like Corso, but the issue at work here is actually that my smuggler doesn't like Corso.

My Smuggler is not my "online avatar" - She is a roleplay character.

Of course I can put up with having a character I don't like hanging about in my game - I'll just avoid him and not use him, and it's no skin off my nose. But this is my smuggler's ship, and from an in-character perspective it would be good for her to be able to decide who gets to stick around on it.

As for "just don't romance him." Well yeah, obviously my smuggler doesn't. But the issue with Corso is that he tries to barge his way into a female smuggler's love life whether she likes it or not. Have you ever watched a female smuggler try to talk with Darmas Pollaran via holo? Corso can't be avoided then because he's on the ship, interrupting, commenting "ewwww!" and threatening to disconnect the conversation every other sentence.

This boy doesn't know how to butt out of things which are none of his business and I expect there are plenty of smugglers out there who would have long since kicked him off their ship if only gameplay allowed.

  8. Desiring to protect women is sexist unless you are also equally going to desire to protect men. Women are not inherently more in need of protection. Women are people, as fully realised and complex and entitled to self-determination as men. That's the issue there, not that wanting to look out for other people or take care of loved ones is offensive.

    Thank you :)

Corso's double standards are frankly disturbing. He threw a fit when my smuggler shot the girl who had lied to and double-crossed them, tried to send them to their deaths, and killed Viidu (who was a friend of Corso's, no less!), when only half an hour earlier he'd held his gun to the head of a defeated man - a man with a wife and a child who hadn't personally done Corso any ill - just for the crime of being on the wrong side of the Separatist fence.

Maybe that man deserved to die. But if he had been a woman, Corso would have let him go free, and that double standard is just plain wrong.

Yes, women deserve respect. So do men.

Yes, men should be held accountable for their crimes. So should women.

Women should not get a free pass. They are not any less capable of wrongdoing or any more deserving of forgiveness than a man would be in the same situation.

Corso puts women on a pedestal and some people may like that but there are perfectly valid reasons why a lot of us (and I would imagine a LOT of smuggler girls) absolutely DO NOT.

My smuggler does not want special treatment.

Of course she wants respect. She wants respect that she has EARNED through being smart and scheming and a quick draw and a top notch pilot and a frankly spectacular sabacc player.

She does not want 'automatic' respect for being a 'lady'.

All that said, my smuggler put up with Corso throughout Act I. She snapped at him a few times when he was especially sexist or ignorant, like when he complained about her shooting Syreena, and when he called a twi'lek "that blue-headed fella [who] speaks all funny", but she gave him a chance. She really did. She gave him a whole Act to broaden his horizons and see her for who she really was (a lying, cheating, stealing coward who frankly doesn't deserve any special treatment, nevermind want it). But then came the final straw.

    My smuggler had shot Corso down right away when he tried to start the romance (though I'll be honest, his "That won't stop me loving you! Whether you like it or not!" response creeped me the hell out). On Balmorra, she followed the mini-romance subplot with Numen Brock and when it came to the final scene with him, Corso actually stepped forward to interrupt and said;

"No, alright! This is enough. I'm putting my foot down."

    I'm sorry,

    What?

    You're putting your foot down?

This is a Corso who was not romanced - who was very bluntly shot down.

And he thinks he has a right to tell my smuggler what she can and cannot do?

That's the point where my smuggler would have told him he wasn't getting back on her ship.

And it's the point where I would have gladly sacrificed my best tank and a bit of my crew's flexibility to have a bit of storyline allowing her to do so.

All of that said! I actually don't think Corso is a badly written character. He prompts a strong reaction, albeit a negative one, and sometimes that's a good thing. I don't think Corso was 'accidentally' written to come off as sexist. The writers themselves acknowledge throughout the script that many smugglers might see him that way, and I'm so damn grateful to them for that. Every time Corso says something I find offensive, my smuggler can call him out on it.

    "Your ignorance is showing."

    "I look after myself."

    "I'm no lady."

"You don't get to control me."

"Corso's just a dumb puppy that won't stop following me."

    and my personal favourite:

"Will you get over your issues with women already?"

And sure, it's a bit rubbish that Corso's the only companion romance for a female smuggler. But you know what? There's Lenn Teraan who tries to play the smuggler at her own game, even if his innocent act does need a little polish; and there's Numen Brock who laughs and isn't surprised when she steals the arms shipment he wanted for the resistance, and still takes her out for a date; and there's Lokir-Ka, whose eyes are opened by her sense of adventure and love of excitement and the concept of a life that's not tied down by anything. And there's Darmas Pollaran, who, if you ask me, makes for a MUCH more dramatic, involving and story-centric 'romance' story than a companion character possibly could, anyway.

My smuggler doesn't feel hard done by in the least.

But she would love to get Corso Riggs off her ship, please, Bioware.

  9. I'm doing much the same.

I enjoyed what group content I did early on, but I think partly because I've levelled quickly and partly because I play at unsociable hours (and partly because I don't play a tank or a healer), it's been near impossible to find groups for heroic content or flashpoints without sitting around for hours on end spamming chat, and I'd rather be progressing my story than doing that.

I'm a bit of an obsessive completionist and I prefer not to skip any content if I can help it, but in the end, story is what I'm here for, and I'm grateful that I can play through my story beginning to end solo.

  10. Just adding my voice to this request.

Just spent about an hour recruiting a group for a mission, then had a brief powercut. Took less than 5 minutes to get my PC restarted and the game loaded back up. But now I'm waiting in a half hour queue to get back in and will have to start over trying to form a group. Most of all I feel guilty for dropping out on the people I had recruited in the first place.
