  1. The economy just needs time to get established. We are less than a month in and we dont have enough people on either side of the spectrum (buyers and sellers) to really determine what needs to be done to get the economy to work. People are still figuring out what their crafting does and the best ways to optimize it. Same with Gathering and their Mission based skills. I mean do people really know if trying to get the schems on a lvl 27 purple mod is worth it. I dont think that there is enough data to determine that. There isnt enough money and demand in the economy to figure that out.

My suggestion is before making something post that you are a "blank"tech looking for work. And talk with people to see what they would want and what they would be willing to pay for it. Its a social game. Be friggin social.

  2. Id like to hear a non-slicer who is opposed to the nerf come on and explain their reasoning. And how it benefits them. because lets be honest, slicers hate it and justifiably so. You cant print extra money without doing more than sending your companion on a mission while running an instance. So lets hear the non slicers reason why slicing nerf is bad?
  3. People still dont understand basic economics.

    Old system:

Slicers were like the US mint. they could Print off money in the game and afford WHATEVER they wanted. If you were a scavenger though, you didnt have this ability. Sure you could maybe try to sell your mats for a small profit, but thats if someone wanted them. vendor trashing them got you nowhere. And if you could use your mats to make something, you MAY be able to sell it for a profit, but lets be honest, drops from quests and heroics earn you just as good if not better equipment. So now you have to sink money into a craft to desynth and get a purple recipe. Then you have to try and see if their is a market for that product. meanwhile Slicers are just vendor trashing their way to more and more money. How anyone can look at that and say, "Well yea that makes sense" Is dumb. its not necessarily the slicers fault, its that the goods that crafters are given to make generally dont add any value for a lot of time and money invested. Slicing requires no time, no money invested and just allowed people to make money with NO RISK. That is a problem. If you dont want to risk anything dont craft. A game should not give players an opportunity to print money. Its not like any crafting skill is a huge money maker.

  4. Big surprise another qq thread about slicing. Simple Math on why it was bad.

Scavenging earns X when selling goods to vendors

Slicing earns Y when selling goods to vendors

If Y > X then the system is broken. No? Theoretically the only time you should be making money is by getting a higher level of good and getting lucky. You should not be able to run any gathering skill mission and then vendor the product for a HUGE profit. That is broken. If other Gathering skills could do the same thing it would be a different story.

  5. This is exactly how I feel about it. I want a persistent game, where what I did yesterday matters. If they randomly nullify that...then I don't want to waste my time with the game.

What you did yesterday does matter. It caused huge amounts of inflation, which is why it was nerfed. People were rolling alts just to do slicing and earn them oodles of money. They took advantage of it and now it has been corrected. It wasn't random. So they made a change, and its hard to test how a change will affect an economy. Obviously A lot of people were using slicing and taking advantage of it. To say its random is dumb. To say it didn't deserve a nerf is dumb. To unsibscribe because 2 weeks into a game your crafting skill was altered is dumb. if this had been going on in production for 6 months and you were basing your whole gameplay off it, then id say a cancellation would be warranted. but to complain that a company took quick action on an obvious design flaw is hypocritcal. You are probably all the same people complaining why glitches in the game aren't fixed yet.

  6. yeah they need to nerf vendor mods bigtime. from what I saw they aren't quite as good as what cyber can make, but they are close enough that it isnt worth the price over free commendations.

Are you kidding me? Guardian mods are the best mods for tanking. And you cant make them which is BS. Pisses me off that we cant make Guardian Mods. That said, I love having my purple earpiece and the armoring and mods help keep my armor up to date.

Ive been trying to use commendations to get item odifiable items for myself and vette so I dont have a ton left over for the item mods themseves. And cyber seems like it could make decent money late game, but not totally sure.

Lastly take into consideration that once the game ages, and people start leveling alts, you could make some money on lower level purple mods. Just a suggestion.

  7. So the question is do you want your crafts to build your own armor or make you money? if you want it to build your own armor, Re'ing stuff should be easy, however it will cause the market for rare recipe products to drop and not make you a profit as its easy to get those items.

Here is the real problem. The game is new. Supply and Demand are unstable to say the least. The devs need to take a back seat for a few weeks. You have a bunch of new toons leveling, some people just hitting 50, some have been to 50 because they decided to level their toons up in 48 hours. You need to let the dust settle. Overreacting and making changes now will impact the game in too many ways that you cant predict. Saying that we need to increase RE success rates could destroy the market for Higher quality crafts. And you cant go back once that happens. Keep it the way it is and See where we stand in 3 weeks. And if you think crafting is a money sink, you are out of your mind or are doing it wrong. Figure out how to at least break even before asking for hand outs. It can be done so dont say it cant.

  8. I think part of the problem with crafting is that you can literally buy equipment that is better for your class from a vendor. That is beyond ridiculous. Your crafts should be able to make Best In Slot or close to it for whatever level they are. As it stands now, thats not the case. I mean Cybertech cant make Guardian mods. Arguably the best Mods for a Jugg Tank. We have to buy them from a vendor???

The crafting system is flawed. Slicing isn't really the problem, its just the red headed step child of the problem. You should be doing slicing for the missions and augments, not for selling the boxes for easy money. But they didn't build that system the right way.

  9. What makes this game all that ground breaking as opposed to other MMO's I mean really. Aside from the voice-overs, what is so different? Quest system is the same ... Do x, come back and ill give you a treat. When you hit 50, you run hard level dungeons that you have already run. Once youve run those you do raids. And PvP ... ummm quick get the flag, i mean ball and score a point. I mean really not all that groundbreaking, its just got a star wars flavor. What they did do was incorporate Pets into every class, essentially making soloing content easier for people with no friends or die hard star wars fans that never played an MMO. thats kind of cool. But what has star wars done that you have not seen before that is crazy ground breaking? Added 30 GBs of Voice overs?

Love the game, but its not the cure for cancer if you know what I mean.

  10. I love my Juggernaut tank. Only level 29 atm, though. I enjoy both PVP and PVE, tanking and DPS with him. I've been running with guildies as much as I can. I've noticed a few things about holding agro on groups:

ONE: Our Sith Assassin kept pulling agro and he didnt know why. We finally realized it was because he was DPSing with his tanking stance on. Once turned off, he almost never pulled agro.

TWO: Our BH Merc kept pulling agro at the start of a fight. He would do Death From Above (DFA) after I charged in and AOEd. But, he was activating DFA before I actually did the AOE. He figured that because DFA takes a few seconds to actually hit the target, that he was timing it after my AOE. However, we noticed that the mobs would turn and agro the moment he activated DFA, instead of after he flew up into the air and the actual rockets hit the ground. Kind of a silly mechanic to have the mobs agro before the attack actual hits the mobs, but that's what happens, so we learn to deal with it. Now he waits for me to hit my AOE before activating his DFA. Have had no problems ever since.

In pugs, you can see how both of these things can cause issues. Wrong stance and AOE attacks too early. I just mention these both at the start of a pug and have had much less issues pugging as well.

I'm looking forward to learning more about my Juggy as I continue to level. I love it!

^this. Pugs are giving Juggs a bad reputation because they dont understand the other classes. And Juggs whine because they dont understand their own class, nevermind be expected to tell your team how to play theirs. Give it another month and once people start understanding not only their own class but the other classes, pugs will run more smoothly. I mean most of us are leveling our first toon. How can you even begin to judge whether you are over or under powered compared to other tanks, unless you have played the other toons. There just isn't enough experience out there to make any rash changes.

  11. Let them think its an esport and let them have fun. You dont have to participate.

Ok and what would happen is the "hardcore PvPers" as you people call it, would ***** about class balance in arenas. And Devs would be compelled to make bad decisions to balance it out .. and via that string of events it does affect other people not interested in Arena. that is the problem. That is the argument.

  12. 3) Rift/SWTOR Beta stole a lot of players who are still subbed, but not actively playing the game. I know tons of Glad level players currently playing LoL, SWTOR and Rift. This doesn't mean they feel arena is unpopular, it's just they are bored overall with WoW in general.

This is only partly true. If you love arena so much, why would you sub to a game that doesn't have it? I dunno sounds like a flimsy argument, but your points are not totally off. I am a little disappointed with the space battles in this game though.

  13. I think the point is that a game should be either PvP centric or PvE centric. Thats the real argument. The only game that seemed to be very PvP centric was Aion. The game had huge potential, but fell short due mainly to the grind and lack of meaningful PvP. You had world PvP, but anyone of any skill stayed away from it due to the fear of being killed and losing a lot of hard earned points. Points that they were saving to buy gear. But the idea of forts and being in massive 200-400 player battles was fantastic. I remember numerous times defending artifacts in the abyss with 20 people against huge flying incoming force. That game had some great ideas, that were implemented poorly.

This game and almost all others like it seem PvE centric. You have a solid story line that is inrtiguing and requires you to make decisions that affect other parts of the game (ie dark side light side or companion affection). From what I can see PvE is just about right. PvE is fun. That said I love PvP. I love ripping through other players, but if making PvP fun and exciting means changing class mechanics to balance it, then that is the wrong decision to make for this game. If this was Aion, I would have a completely different opinion though. And I think adding an Arena function can not help the game in ANY way. It will just welcome in the complaints about class imbalance in Arena. Just like if they add more PvP instances, some instances warriors are great, others they lack the DPS. the more you have, the more there is to complain about.

  14. I dunno how SWTOR will expand and cater to the public. What I do know is that in every game, once you start tinkering with mechanics to make things even in PvE or PvP, you break something else. It has happened in WoW, it has happened in Rift, it has happened in Aion and the list goes on.

If you take a game like LoL, it is easier to tinkering with one champion in regards to how viable they are at a given role, without destroying balance.

if you Tinker with Jugg mechanics for example it affects not only their viablty in PvP, but also their viability in PvE. So when devs are tinkering they need to decide what they care about teh most, PvP or PvE. If the game is storyline based first then the answer is obvious. and like an above poster said, PvP is a minigame to be enjoyed inbetween the storyline. As a Diversion, not as a main selling point.

*and if thats the case, if arenas do get introduced, it will not be the main focus of the game and expect there to be imbalance. Dont whine about it.

  15. Lol people dont want to CC, come on. Dont be silly. Its clear that when people complain about not being able to hold threat on multiple mobs they are just running in blindly, casting smash and wondering why everything runs away from them. They aren't use to needing CC. They arent use to burning down 1 mob at a time when there are 4 elites. They are not use to a challenge. And then they talk about how BHs have it much easier AOE threat wise. So go be a bounty hunter. Dont break a tank class because another tank class is easier to play in your opinion.
  16. i guess i will say it one last time. If you have issues with threat it is either because you aren't doing it right or your team is being dumb. If you are tanking an elite with a bunch of adds and they start dpsing the elite and aoe'ing then yes, you fail. Its not like wow, or aion or rift where you can pump an aoe taunt and then 5 aoe skills to get hate all on you. But you do have sufficient tools to keep hate and mitigate party damage intake. if you dont like the class then play something else. Please dont post that you dont like it and have the devs F it up to satisfy your WoW like playstyle. And dont complain that you dont have enough tools and in the next breath complain that you have too many abilities to manage. seriously ... So contradicting.
  17. People are use to having 3 maybe 4 macros that they can spam for various situations and that just doesnt exist in this game. If they did I could see people set disrupts on one, Rage on another Taunts on another and DPS on the last. I totally see that this is what people want. Some people cannot understand a toon that requires too many clicks to operate efficiently.
  18. You dont need to. Name a situation that you need to tank more than two mobs and I will point out how your party is doing something wrong. Your goal is to tank the 1 or 2 strongest enemies and let you team clear the trash. If you dont have enough hate to maintain at least one of the elites attention by the time trash is cleared, then you are doing something wrong. If you are having problems in boss fights, you are doing something wrong.

the problem with Jugg is that it requires your team to NOT pull before you and to NOT be focus firing what you are tanking and leaving trash alone. I dont know why but people seem to think that they should down the strongest mob first which causes nothing but chaos. Set the guidelines for your group before each instance and it should be a piece of cake.
