  1. 3 years? Between this apparently being the big thing they've been working on since before launch, Joveth deciding that clarity questions were off-topic in the Clarification thread, and then the subtle thread name-change to show that's all the answers we're getting... I think you're optimistic.

"(We) do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future." More of the same, or something actually resembling Companion arcs? Wait, stupid question

They have promised the companion characters' stories would be fully available to LGBT players several times, in 2011:

"Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature." (Senior Online Community Manager Stephen Reid, 2011-09-13)

and very recently last month after the announcement of Makeb and the disappointment surrounding that:

"I realize that we promised [same-gender relationships] to you guys and that many of you believed that this with a companion character. Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed" (executive producer Jeff Hickman, 2013-01-02)

  2. The best way would just to give every player a token to reset their companion stories if they wish, kind of like a player character respec but for story :)

So they can then play through them again per conversation in their own time, so basically after each convo the companion character then immediately gets the mission/talk icon above their head again after the convo ends

It would be pretty horrible to have to replay the hours of time to spent to play the whole game again when you know all the story already for the spread-out companion conversations, so I think that would be the best way

  3. like, when the female SW can proposition Vette's sister during one of her companion quests.

When Vette romance eventually actually gets put in the game, they need to add the line "bored now" to one of the zaps, hehe

Willow: It's horrible. That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil, and skanky... (softly) and I think I'm kinda gay.

Buffy: Willow, just remember, a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was.

    Angel: Well, actually...

[pauses as Willow and Buffy look at him]

    Angel: That's a good point.

  4. It's just easier to organise really I guess.

But guilds should talk between each other more to arrange the occasional bigger things, yeah for sure, that's what this forum is for... But the only way we could really get it used more was if the game had an in browser link to the forums like The Secret World. It'd be brilliant if there was a "RP forums" button and could post in game like in TSW

  5. Well, Inqusitors tend to say Ve Have Vays of Making you Valk quite a lot, so any allusions are actually quite fitting no? :p

Have you heard of Fifty Shades of Grey? Yes, no, maybe? Either way, get over it, it's pretty mainstream and tame now yet you seem as terrified of the possibility of women being "deviants" (e.g. having different tastes from you) in a similar way to the old Spanish Inquisition in the dark ages looking for witches to burn. Yet these days you are the one that is deviant, we have moved on, and left you behind with your impotent rage at people braver than you to express themselves freely and not care when you and your ilk so often loudly attack people, in the street even, just for not behaving the way you want...

  6. What I don't get is, why in a time when every company is trying to get all the money they can, that they make an expansion about the most unloved, unappealing, uninteresting race in the game... It's bizarre. You'd think they would have realised by now that when people think "star wars", it's not "the adventures of the evil space t****" that gave it appeal o_O

It reminds me of how in City of Villains every new patch started becoming about saving the world in some way and so people just stopped playing it and it eventually got to the point where pretty much all anyone heard was "City of Heroes" because that was the only people left playing. It's like at EA/Bioware they are saying imperial players can't have them fight the empire, "so lets have some nastier baddies", because everyone knows that Empire players really want is to play republic characters with different names. o_O

It's like they gave some "True Star Wars Fan" boy control of what to make an expansion about, it's something that has no appeal whatsoever to most people, I know when I did the Hutta missions I pressed Space a hell of a lot through the "booga booga jumba jumba" crap and just wanted the big fat t****s off from my screen!

I like dark storylines, but hutts aren't dark, they're cartoonish stereotypical laughably evil. We need more Kaliyos.

  7. I actually disapprove of the Cathar too, because everyone knows it would just be furries and I don't think most people will actually be interested in playing them because they are quite ugly from what google shows. Give us catsuits instead pff

But no one will be bothered by the addition of an option to have a pet cat on the ship, that would just be so adorable, I am in love with the "clambering over the ship console" idea haha, even if it wasn't fully animated and just occasionally you'd find it hanging off the edge :) It'd be like the fish in Mass Effect taken to the next level :)

  8. Nuns have a much better sense of color and style.

Jedi clothing in general has been designed with five simple goals in mind....

    1) It must cover every square inch from neck to toes.

    2) It must be brown or a shade of brown.

    3) It must be highly flammable.

    4) It must completely restrict movement.

    5) It must make a metal bikini look practical and plausible in comparison.

    6) It must make you think "Wow, those nuns, that black-and-white colour scheme, the way the pure white frames the face, it's... actually quite stylish in comparison to this, isn't it?" :)

I think Star Wars suffers from the same problems as Star Trek, the "space" outfits tend to look like the time they were designed in more than anything else, so we get what the old 70s people thought was a cool "futuristic" look (e.g. lots of cloth of solid colours with straight lines)

  9. I was about to reply to this, as it sounds horrible, but then I saw that you said they have actually sorted this now, cool. Yay for not just reading the first page. ;)But it does worry me that you say you reported 6 times and that they did not do anything, I've had a similar experience where they seem to largely ignore tickets and just pin automatic responses on them to try make it seem like they are doing something when they are actually not. On the UK&EU RP server, The Progenitor, there is literally someone running around with the name "Dafuuq" for example. The Secret World's customer support is absolutely amazing in comparison, they actually take the time to message you in game and talk to you when they get around to your turn in the queue, and will actually hold a conversation. In SWTOR, even though tickets are only able to be made by subscribers, they STILL take days to reply, and then it's just a pre-written robot response, even if you asked specific questions, they will not answer. Just robot. The difference is certainly a culture shock, and EA should seriously reconsider the very 90s way they seem to handle customer support if they want to remain competitive...

The fact that they did not do anything until you made this thread is especially worrying, because earlier on in the game when the moderators seemed a little less professional than they are now, I remember threads getting memory hole'd that asked about customer support issues, and I believe it might still be technically against the rules even. Yet if their own support is largely incompetent, what are people to do? It's almost like they want to encourage people to unsubscribe, it's completely stupid.

By the way, there's a nice little thread for people with disabilities here if you are interested. :)

Oh and another good fiction book that prophesied this stuff (I sometimes think that science fiction in a way is the sleeping subconscious of humanity as a whole dreaming about what could be until it becomes true) that came to mind as well as Anne McCaffrey's "Ship" series: The Wormholers by Jamila Gavin

'President Barack Obama talks with Stephen Hawking in the Blue Room of the White House before a ceremony presenting him and 15 others the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Aug. 12, 2009. The Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor', Wikipedia

When I was googling to find that article, I just found this American one too:

Carly Fleischmann: Autistic Girl Who Used A Computer To Ask For Help [permalink] which actually has a link to her blog, Twitter and stuff, and the original article on "ABC News" has a very big comment thread there

when Carly was 11, she was working with two of her therapists when she started to feel sick. Unable to communicate what she needed, she ran to a computer and began to type for the first time.

First she typed the word “H-U-R-T” and then “H-E-L-P” and then she threw up. Her therapists were shocked: They had never specifically taught her those words, and they wondered where she had learned them. Carly’s typing showed them that there was a lot more going on inside her head than they had thought. For the first time she was able to communicate independently. After nine years of intensive therapy, and not much to show for it, Carly was finally emerging out of her silent, secret world.

Because nobody apart from two people had ever seen it, the skeptics were desperate to see proof. Going forward, the plan was to use tough love to get Carly to type. If she wanted something, she had to type for it. And it worked. Several months later, Carly started to type, and what came through her finger, typing one letter at a time, with fluency that no one could believe, was simply remarkable.

Carly: “I am autistic but that is not who I am. Take time to know me, before you judge me. I am cute, funny and like to have fun.”

For the first time, Carly was able to have conversations with her parents, even instant-messaging her father at his office. Her family stopped looking at her as a disabled person and instead met the funny, sassy, intelligent girl that had been trapped inside. They also said they were “horrified” that for most of her life they spoke in front of her as if she wasn’t there.

Carly: “I want people to know that no one is telling me what to say and I don’t have a hand up my butt like a puppet.”

    [..]

Dr. Nicole Walton-Allen, an early skeptic, concedes: “In retrospect, it is quite clear that Carly obviously had skills that we were not aware of and she needed a vehicle to express herself.”

    [..]

One of the things that makes Carly so unique is her tremendous sense of humor. For instance, this exchange with her therapist:

    Barb: “How cute are you?”

Carly: “I’m so cute blind people stop and stare.”

Her brother Matthew is also a favorite target.

Carly: “Matthew smells so bad skunks run and hide.”

Besides her obvious spunk and tenacity, Carly is empathetic and recognizes the love and sacrifice her family has made for her, something she conveyed to her father on his birthday.

Carly: “Dear Dad, I love when you read to me. And I love that you believe in me. I know I am not the easiest kid in the world. However you are always there for me holding my hand and picking me up. I love you.”

“I’ll go through many sleepless nights to hear that. I’ll spend every penny we have to hear that,” Fleischmann says.

He also notes that Carly’s breakthrough was the result of thousands of dollars spent on years of intensive therapy. It’s the kind of money most families unfortunately could never afford to spend on their autistic children.

A year after we first met Carly, she is happier, calmer and more independent. She also has her own internet blog and twitters regularly, answering questions from people all over North America about her experience with autism.

It really worries me when I read about stuff like City of Heroes being shut down, because I wonder how many kid's worlds they were using to learn in got destroyed. :/ I think in many ways games are things the world has quite took for granted in how utterly wide-reaching they are changing our society (not always for the better if not in moderation though of course) in ways that we're only just beginning to understand on a sociological level, I'm going to link that other BBC article again just because.

I've worked with specialeffect.org.uk and they are a very worthy charity :)

  11. *Shoots the ugly pig alien and it's dog first.*

No I mean pet cats that people keep in their homes, not jaguar-like creatures.

Well, thanks to SelinaK we have this...

I know kittens exist in star wars because I checked... I want a kitten that sits on my shoulder and goes "mew" when you click on it, awwh.

I'd go for a spukama kitten, that's for sure !

    :)

    Yesssss they sound lovely :)

Climbing on the console when you're trying to plot a course to Quesh. Playing with your jedi robe's sash. Walking around ignoring you until you're busy, and then being super-affectionate.

^Is just a such a great idea, EA could put in the AI from the Cats 3 PC game or something hehe :)

  12. No

    no

    no

    no

    no

    no

    no

    nonononono

why not? give us your poor reason

SW:G was an MMO with exceedingly low standards of quality and a near complete disregard for canon, so...

The further we stay away from SW:G, the better. That game was a trainwreck, even pre-CU.

In the majority of cases it would look absolutely ridiculous and clownish. They'd have to be blocked from indoors areas (especially fleet) at the very least, and that would mean they would be pointless

I tried warcrap once, it was utterly ugly the way the cities/fleet equivalents were flooded by ******* in their giant animals running around everywhere, it would totally kill the theme and look utterly stupid, it makes everywhere end up looking like a zoo.

The only exception where it could make sense is something like getting a token on planets that duplicates your speeder into the equivalent local planet's animal, and you can only use that token on that planet

  13. Most of my chars are still around level 20ish (I suspect this might be the average level of a lot of more casual players too, I don't know the statistics but I think that 50 people are the minority so lower level stuff would be a better way to attract/keep new people in the game :)) and the orange outfits that are available to us (mostly class/heroic mission rewards or flashpoints) are generally pretty ugly other than the standard ones that everyone knows and uses in general anyway (stuff like elegant cos it's one of the few things we can actually buy and use since so much social stuff has totally pointless level restrictions on, and the cartel market pack outfits) but some of the green drops / blue rewards from class missions and side missions can be pretty cool at times, they have their own "set names" most of them I've found, as you level you get more pieces of named sets :) I've noticed some class missions you will get parts of a set but you have to do the other side missions to get the full outfit... I'll post a couple from my stores later, but I'm mostly waiting til I get 50 to then go and take photos of everything in one go

One thing that could improve things a lot was if they added an ability to replace the visual theme of an orange item "wrapper"/"template" with the visual theme from another item - The Secret World lets you do this with their weapons (they probably would for outfits too except they very cooly make your look a totally cosmetic option so you can change your gear set ups totally separate from appearance, like City of Villains/City of Heroes) and it's a very good idea

  14. It strikes me that in this thread, many people are signing on, but not actually engaging in conversation due to the largeness of the thread - so, people come to the thread, sign on, but don't have the time to read all the other posts and also since a lot of the posts are old you can't judge if people will actually reply or not. There's PMs of course, but that's a bit over the top and personal for most stuff.

Some kind of community site that isn't based around any one group could be quite interesting, especially with all the recent drama about Bioware basically making an apartheid planet for LGBT

  15. Well, I'm 14, and for the past 3 years, i've been poked and prodded so many times, i lost count. Had severe stomach pain. The school nurse made a comment that i shouldnt fake stomach pain to get out of class. wonder how she feels now [she actually retired that year]. The school Principle also said i was 'faking' it. After surgery. and tests that no kid would want to go through all in a year.

In the first year around christmas, they found my gallbladder wasnt working, they removed it right before christmas [got home christmas eve day], i got an allergic reaction to a med they had me on, and they told me if i would shut up and stop crying about it, the pain would go away. Yes, that is exactly what you say to a kid who is having trouble seeing and feels like their head is going to explode  After the surgery i had an allergic reaction to another med that made me pass out on the floor.

In the end, that wasn't it, and the pain continued. It got so bad, it was really debilitating. Was out of school, had tutors come for 6th and 7th grade, 8th grade was homeschooling, and they could never figure out what was wrong. Still haven't. However, i am now on anti-depressants to try and stop my head communicating with my nerves (stop it from making the pain) and it works a little. They are also using it as just an anti-depressant since what person wouldn't be depressed locked away from the world all the time?

Also, when i was a baby (yes a baby, just about a year old) i got Stevens-Johnson, which destroyed my skin and could have made me blind. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevens%E2%80%93Johnson_syndrome explains it [dont look if you can't handle graphic pictures] I got it because the doctors couldn't find out what was originally wrong with me, and filled me up with a bunch of drugs.

EDIT: i feel i should just mention, i also have arthritis. :(

I should stop going on about all this, and get to the main point. I play games to escape my very harsh reality. The pain is still horrific, and im still always in my house. Through games and the internet, i am able to get the social contact i need to really get by. Plus, i get to have lots of fun while doing that too, and it takes my mind off the pain.

    Characters:

    Jedi Covenant:

.....Lots. LOL (9 total). Main on all servers is 'Amaine.' amaine on this server is a sorc healer at level 50

Another character on this server im really playing is Mimoso, my Guardian.

    Shadowlands:

    Amaine, level....45 or 46 commando.

    Pot5:

    ....Suzuki. Low level sniper.

    anyways...

As you can see, i have lots of charatcers XD i also have a character on the ebon hawk. i am, as some would say, an altaholic. :p see everyone around, and its good to see other people like me playing the game.

PS: Amaine means sweet sound in japanese :)

Oh my god *hughughug* Utterly good luck to you

Just looking in on this thread out of curiousity but had to say that...

Also, I was thinking, what you speak about, it reminds me of this:

on-line gaming are changing people's view of who they are and their place in the world, according to a report for the government's chief scientist, BBC News, 2013-01-21

Prof Beddington commissioned the study as part of the Government Office for Science's Foresight programme - the influential Foresight reports look ahead to highlight emerging trends in science and technology with a view to informing policies across government departments.

    [..]

the changing nature of identities will have substantial implications for what is meant by communities and by social integration. The study shows that traditional elements that shape a person's identity, such as their religion, ethnicity, job and age are less important than they once were.

Instead, particularly among younger people, their view of themselves is shaped increasingly by on-line interactions of social networks and on online role playing games.

The study found that far from creating superficial or fantasy identities that some critics suggest, in many cases it allowed people to escape the preconceptions of those immediately around them and find their "true" identity. This is especially true of disabled people who told researchers that online gaming enabled them to socialise on an equal footing with others.

"The internet can allow many people to realise their identities more fully, " the authors write. "Some people who have been shy or lonely or feel less attractive discover they can socialise more successfully and express themselves more freely online".

I read these books when I was little cos like you I tended to read and write a lot more than most people my age :)

wikipedia.org/wiki/The Ship Who Sang and along with that BBC article, it makes me think the future might be one where disabled people will have more of an equaliser to life when so much is in the ethereal. :)

    cyberpunk est mort, vive cyberpunk

  16. Oh this is a great idea ( found this thread via Community Roundup which is great cos I don't have time to read every thread on the forums and don't usually pay attention to the forums cos of that :) ), I noticed the "a site to catalogue the visual looks of TOR's moddable equipment" bit though, will you also show visual looks of stuff that isn't moddable? I don't know about others but I have a cargo hold dedicated to outfits I like, a lot of stuff is bound but also bind on equip meaning that it's not just class locked but newbies can sell good clothes they aren't interested in anymore on the Galactic Trade Network marketplace/auction thingy for people that want specific stuff :)
  17. 'SWTOR companions will have same-sex romance options... eventually', Brianna Royce, Editor-in-Chief for Massively.com/Joystiq, 2011-09-13

In a statement on the forums, SWTOR Senior Online Community Manager Stephen Reid posted the following:

Due to the design constraints of a fully voiced MMO of this scale and size, many choices had to be made as to the launch and post-launch feature set. Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature.

'Old Republic devs to segregate same gender relationships to one gay planet', GlobalPost, 2013-01-15

“I realize that we promised [same-gender relationships] to you guys and that many of you believed that this would be with a companion character. Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play,”

wrote executive producer Jeff Hickman in a post to a developers' blog.

I am happy with "Soon™" as long as it's within the next year or so...

Yeah, sure we "believed", you make it sound like we are the ones at fault for trusting you. :/

That's also an out and out lie, we were promised it would be worked on post game launch in 2011, so the changes to make it Free to Play by definition aren't what delayed it, it's "everything/ANYTHING else up to and including cartel market ugly weasel pets". :/ Marketingspeak I know, but come on, we aren't idiots. :/

( why are there no actual cute pets either, I know kittens exist in star wars because I checked... I want a kitten that sits on my shoulder and goes "mew" when you click on it, awwh. )

The issue is that most of us will have completed the game storyline (well those of us who haven't already even!) by then so the whole thing misses a lot of context/point... I'm not sure how they can do it effectively for people who are 50 later, maybe some kind of code that allows you to reset ALL your companion conversations ever and replay them from the start in one go could be pretty cool.

Tell me Kaliyo is /meant/ to be straight, /realllllllly/... :p

... I'm still annoyed that they did similar to Jack in Mass Effect 2, if there had been any "SGR" post-FoxNews, I think she rightfully was bi realllllly...

  18. Just to point out DA2 uses gender checks, as does ME3.

For a good romance you need gender checks so that both dialogue and interactions between the toons remainrealistic.

As an example how removing gender checks can lead to physical humour I only need to point to the modded ME2 romances, due to the different height of MShep and FShep all scenes that require interaction look weird ranging from simply bad (Miranda) to hilarious (Thane).

Umm, this is the worst excuse I have ever read yet, the obvious solution here to make such cutscenes not look weird would be to not limit the height of all female characters to a head shorter than male ones in the first place. There's absolutely no reason for that other than trying to enforce the stereotype that all men are taller than all women which is simply not true. It's very damn annoying that the tallest, amazon-like, female character is actually.... A full head shorter than the tall male one.

Neither are "the norm", obviously, so why the hell put in that limit other than sexism.
