  1. I'm actually kinda bummed that people are pitching GW2 has the WoW killer... because it isnt.

GW is something different. Its for people with different tastes. Anyone who is a fan of WoW and thinks GW2 is WoW2, forget it already. Its NOTHING like WoW and there will be no carrots on a stick to go after. Its a game one plays for fun and nothing else.

I love Guild Wars and im gonna play it, but i will admit that im pretty satisfied with SWTOR. If anyone was a WoW killer (aka structured in a way in wich it improves over the WoW end-game formula) This was it. The classes, the raids... all alot more enjoyable on SWTOR than WoW.

GW2 is the type of game you log into to wonder arond for a bit and have fun. It will not give you any goals, you will have to make those yourself, or not.

So yeah, i agree this is the MMORPG with the most potencial and i dont see any other in the horizon that can amaze me this much, even beeing the GW fanboy i am.

    I so agree with this.

GW2 is not a WOW killer, or a SWTOR Killer. If you you love progression raiding, the GW2 offers you nothing. And there's nothing wrong with that - its just not a game for you.

But as the above poster said, it is a game for people with different tastes, or people who want a change of pace from gear-based reward progression raiding content.

GW2 is taking a lot of huge risks in an attempt to bring something new into the MMO mix. Having no dedicated healers, no dedicated tanks, and no dedicated DPS classes (i.e. no holy trinity system) but having all classes be capable of filling all roles could be incredibly awesome, or a disaster. It sounds very appealing.

Having gear rewards not be stats based, but rather cosmetic is a major risk, but sounds incredibly awesome to me. Your "bragging rights" come from gear that has a specialized look unique to whatever achievement you did to get that gear. It does NOT give you a higher tier of stats. In PVP, your are competing entirely based on skill and skill alone.

There are ZERO raids in GW2. None. All content including high end content is scaled for single groups. This is because Anet's design philosophy is not found of progression raiding. It's not secret that Anet developers think that end game content of traditional MMOS sucks balls. They've said so a million times. You may not agree, but that's their stance and they are doing it different. It will appeal to many.

Boss fights (i.e. dynamic/scripted and epic in scale) begin at level 1. Literally before you leave the tutorial (if you choose to go through it) Quests are dynamic - you don't get a quest and then go complete a task - you go explore the world and dynamic world events (i.e. "quests" in GW2) find you. This is an evolution of Warhammer's failed public quest system. The public quest system was a great idea that failed badly. Will Anet do it better? I hope so, it has lots of potential. I mean lots.

GW2 is taking from, or in the same tradition as Bioware games and SWTOR in that it is heavily story driven. If you like that about SWTOR and think it was a major improvement to MMOs (I do) then this is exciting. BUT, how well will they deliver. We now have SWTOR to compare GW2 story to: will it be as good, better or worse?

That's the most even-handed, fair-minded evaluation of GW2 potential that I am capable of. I am excited, cautiously. But I don't think I sounded like a "fanboi" there did I?

  2. To the people in EGA that were hating on the Aussies playing on "Their" server. You wanted us to move to another server. I understand you were raging because the queues were 1600+ and hours long. Now you have your wish. Enjoy your empty servers..

Yeah, on one hand I never wanted Aussies or anyone else to move on - server queues are a SMALL price to pay for healthy server population. On the hand, I understand Aussies leaving since this is one of the rare times in the history of MMOS where Aussies can have servers actually based in Australia (and not Singapore or servers simply called "Oceanic" still based in the US)

A lot of Aussies were talking about staying on TJJT server anyway because of the community we have built with The Older Gamers guild there. But now that the full details of Oceanic servers are out, it seems like something too good to pass up for many.

So if the bulk of my southern friends decide to go, someone explain to me exactly why I should not be able to go with them?

  3. Hmmm, and to think I was actually agreeing with Selwynn until I discovered that the post I posted in supporting him was nothing more than a spam dupe created to replace this one which had fallen off the radar...

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=305652

In light of this, I'm not so sympathetic any more and agree that until or if Bioware decides to revisit their policies with regards to this issue that SelwynnG just roll a new toon on whatever server his guildmates are on and drop the multiple posting...

With leveling as pathetically easy as it is, he should be back to his original level shortly with help from his Guildies.

Actually, that one came second to this one, and was posted in Customer Service, in case that was where this sort of thing was supposed to belong.

I'm not apologizing for keeping this on the radar until some sort of satisfactory answer is given. If you don't like it, don't read it.

  4. - There is a large number of oceanic players currently spread over multiple servers

    - Bioware is about to concentrate that population into fewer servers

    - Bioware allowing carte blanche transfers for all players would see many people abandon low population servers because they assume these will be high pop

    - These players will make it more difficult for oceanic players

    - As is said in every thread about how downtime hits australians particularly hard- the majority should not suffer for the minority.

OP, while I feel for you, I'd much prefer you reroll than us having several thousand americans bombard our servers on the assumption that the grass is always greener on the other side.

    Wrong.

You know why its wrong? Because "several thousand Americans" are to going to voluntarily choose a 200ms PING. Only a smaller number of us that want to sacrifice ping so that we can STAY WITH FRIENDS.

  5. Yup, Buddy and I switched servers about 10 days ago and we already 1 planet away from where were were before and have full alt force going strong on new server!

Rerolling in this game is NOT a reason not to switch servers if you need/want to.

For the fifty billionth time, rerolling the same class(es) from 1-50 is NOT fun for me. If that is BW's only solution, fine - I'll move on to another game. I would like for there to be another option.

It does not matter what YOU find fun or easy. It matters what I do. There is no way I can get back to 50 or close to it in 10 days. You may be able to do that, I cannot. And I have already rerolled once to join The Older Gamers on TJJT server. I'm just not able to find the fun in doing it again.

The reason for this OP is: it does not make any sense that I should have to, and I'd like to know why I am disallowed from following my friends and community when they txfer. Seems like a fair question to me.

All of the responses telling me how I should do something different to get around the problem, don't address my question at all.

  6. I can see why its not allowed but they will add paid transfers and faction chances in the future.

Again, this is the one I really want an answer to... you can see why? Please tell me why. Because for the life of me it makes no sense.

An army of US players are not going to come "storming" to a server where they will have a higher ping. But for the small number of us who may end up split off from all our our buddies, its potentially a game ender.

Remember that this is a game - rerolling the same class(es) from 1-50 is not fun for me. Waiting an indefinite amount of time to txfer does not change the time I sit around not being able to play with my friends - that is also not fun to me.

Now if BW is just going to say, sorry but that's how our game works, then fine. But if I end up sitting around on a sever that's dead during my playtime I'll be finding another game.

  7. I am US PST time, but because of my job, my playtime is LATE evening, sometimes early morning. I'd say my prime time is about midnight to 4am, sometimes I'll get on as early at 10pm and sometimes I'll be playing at 7am.

That means that the vast majority of people I play with are Aussies. I belong to The Older Gamers, a vast community of players with guilds in most MMOs out there. TOG formed on The Jekk'Jekk Tar Server. But now that Oceanic servers (actually based in Australia too) have opened, many Aussies are considering moving.

Then the official announcement came out - full character transfers to Oceanic. Now, even Aussies who were thinking about staying are planning to go. There's just one problem.

Transfers are only allowed for those who registered with their originating country as AUS, NZ and possibly some others in the southern hemisphere.

So even if I wanted to follow my friends to be able to play with the community I've established and the people who play at the same time I do, I cannot transfer my 50s because I chose my originating country as "US."

What the hell is up with that?

Why am I forced to stay on a sever with a community that is low population during my peak playtime? I would consider accepting a higher ping if it meant that my guild would be full of people online at the times I play, and if it meant that I could keep playing with my friends. Now I'm not allowed to even have that option.

My only choice would be to reroll. I'm sorry, but its not fun for me to reroll the same classes from 1-50 just to get back to where I was. In the meantime, I still won't be grouping with my friends while I level back up. I'm not going to do that.

This does not make sense to me. Why can't anyone choose to go to this sever? Few are going to willingly choose a higher ping time - its not like there would be a flood of people. But for the few like me, who have off playtimes, this is pretty important.

If next month my guild is dead during the times that I play, that will end up being the last month I play SWTOR. That's not some sort of threat, there's no reason why anyone else should care what I do. But it sure is disappointing for me.

BW please consider allowing OPEN transfers to Oceanic servers for folks who have off play times and want to be able to KEEP playing with their friends.
