  1. I haven't played since February. Mainly cause i went DPS Guardian and was told that i couldnt compete with other dps classes far too often with no proof.

wondering if there is a general consensus on the DPS rankings of classes/specs?

ie, who is top dog melee? Who is top dog range?

i rerolled from DPS guardian to Gunslinger in hopes of raiding as a pure dps without hassle, but quit during the leveling process. (was slower cause i went to a new server that fit my play time better)

any opinions or data on the subject is welcome, thanks.

  2. I've been constantly bouncing around different classes and I always feel drawn back to this one. Maybe it's because of the lightsaber or because it was my first toon. I have a lvl 50 scoundrel (heals) and a lvl 50 vanguard trooper (dps for now). Is guardian dps really that bad as people make it out to be? Mind you I'm talking only about PVE and I don't plan to PVP much on my guardian. Is it just that reliable on gear and people are making a bigger deal than it is?

I just feel that I'm giving up on the class too soon after waiting forever for this game to come out. I do have a sent but I'm just not a fan of the dual lightsabers and I love having the option to tank.

So that in close, is a dps guardian worth going through the trouble to gear up? Is this AC actually gimped in dps or will gearing it up pay off?

I got to tier2 pve armor.

i thought i was doing just fine...

until the solo bosses in EV. I ended up being the last person to kill their guy (other than the healers and the big tanky one)

was pretty alarming. I wasn't terribly behind, but i was at least 15 seconds longer than any other dps. maybe longer, i didn't time it. was a big let down.

granted, they can't guardian leap and force leap, but dang... felt gimped.

i've since rolled a gunslinger to give me my dps needs. i'll play guardian as a pure pvp char i guess and play them seperately.

  3. i have a multitude of characters ive leveled using biochem, and my first was synthweaving.

basically, i'm wondering if the bonuses of having top notch gear while leveling outweighs medpacks and cunning/power.

i spend a lot of time bouncing ebtween pvp and pve while leveling, so having a stim that lasts an hour get cancelled after 10mins due to entering a pvp match and dieing is a bit limiting.

wondering about leveling to 45 as armor, then switch to biochem.

thoughts on which would serve me better during the grind to 50?

  4. hey guys.. due to work, i can't raid with pretty much any guild due to time conflicts, so i was aiming to reroll (sigh) to a europe english server, but i specifically want to find a high pop server as i'm kind of tired of not seeing anyone outside of the fleet for hours.

can someone recommend a high pop europe english server? The only one i've seen go high today was a pvp server, but i'd rather stick to pve server.

    PVE only, mind you.

  5. Depends on fight.

A lot of marauders are really bad, but quite a few are exceptional.

snipers/gunslingers tend to be much closer on par with each other.

so if it's a really good marauder, i'd take them if hte fight was melee friendly

but i'd take mostly any sniper/gs over a poor marauder.

seems a lot of sent/marauders just arent as good as they could be. combination of lacking gear and not playing the class to its full potential.

  6. Try playing a councelor... at level 12ish take a look at your damage output and compare it to a level 40+ JK... (in pve)

I'm not sure what part of that made the least sense.

    councelor = consular

are you saying a lvl 12 consular will out damage a lvl 40+ JK?

    what?

    .....

  7. the return of time sinks? You mean like having to zone 4-5 times to get from fleet to planet?

I keep hearing people excuse end game issues by saying this is a "theme park" mmo. Ok, I've been gaming since the 80's, I was a beta tester for the first graphical mmo ever sierra's "the realm", played uo, eq1, daoc, eq2 (never played wow, and glad i did not) I had never even heard of a "theme park" mmo *** does that mean exactly? Was the term coined for this game? not trying ti be a ********, but ***?

theme park is a reference to anyone can get in and have fun and experience the entire "park"

meaning, it's entry level at best and everyone can see everything. it's handed to them practically.

i don't use this term personally, just letting you know.

  8. i can't see going away from biochem. I was synth400, but respec'd to biochem.

136str,40pwr 2hr, persists through death and reusable is awesome.

the health pack is an after thought now., the purple ultimate pack is just fine and dandy, the rakata is a bonus.

also, i use both the power adrenal purple and the surage adrenal purple

that is 4 things that increase my character quite significantly that contuinue to improve me regardless of gear drops/upgrades.

most of the good loot in synthweaving appears to be tradeable after making it (ignoring the 2 rakata pieces), so i'd rather just spend 100k on a piece of armor and have all the benefits of biochem and trust i'll eventually get loot drops and pvp armor (currently working on battlemaster gear)

  9. After you complete your main story quest, you will get the chain to go to Ilum and Belsavis bonus series.

Complete those chains, and they will become daily quests, rewarding daily commendations + more.

The 2 man heroic on each planet will give you a lvl 22 purple mod and enhancement.

With the daily commendations you can buy lvl 23 purple Armoring and hilt/barrel.

Do these till you have all your moddable gear outfitted with the purple mods and you should be good to go for HM flashpoints and def. EV normal.

At 120 Daily Commendations (~25/day completing all the daily quests) you can buy Rakata (best tier atm) Earpiece and Implants.

There are mission support vendors on both planets where you can view these.

A purple drops at the end of Battle for Ilum and False emperor (Normal Mode)

That is about all you can do before hitting the HM flashpoints

    can also pvp...

champion/cent gear has no requirement other than lvl 50, and it's very good. do pvp, buy champion bags.

  10. in reference to people being pushed in unexpected directions....

if you force leap, THEN push, they often travel in an odd direction. Reason appears to be (by my eyes) that their "position" doesn't match what you see visually.

Ever notice when people come out of stun after a force leap, they warp like 1meter? It's my theory that that is where the game registers them for physics..... my work around to this has been to exagerate my positioning further in front or behind to force the game to recognize their position and it has worked much better for me.

  11. always go left on civil war (alderan pvp)

lower gear/levels are more useful there than at center because often times it gets ignored and u can just go cap/defend it while others do other things. sure, you're less invovled, but you're useful.

on voidstar, see if you can't lure people to the back (away from door) when attacking, to give planters more space.

on hutball - do you best?

if you're open to the idea, change to focus spec until you get more gear. this will let u do hit and run tactics. Just guardian leap out of it when you're starting to get focused (if possible)

  12. save every CD ability to cause interrupts.

    send kira in

wait for him to use his first channeled/casted ability - then use force leap to begin the fight and interrupt one of his biggest abilities.

then use the rest of ur abilities only as interrupts. accept lower damage during this period just to force interupts.

i've also heard of people kiting him using t7 for range dps.

  13. Maybe I'm being naive, but it seems to me that there could be a good market for belts/bracers during the level up process. Just have to have a reasonable profit margin, not try to score a big sale off each one.

i made far more money selling archaeology and UT items in bulk than ever selling armor. I used to get stacks of 20 of things and just put in GTN. easy way to sell 30k+, depending on the item.

  14. I HAVE read the sticky's at the top of this forum.

I am a pretty casual player, my main is only 24 atm.

    I think i understand SYNTHWEAVING

    so...

    1. I send my companions out on missions as often as I can, alternating between arch and treasure hunting.
    2. I visit the SYNTHWEAVING trainer as often as possible and purchase all of the new recipes that i can.
    3. I craft new items whenever I have enough materials to do so.
    4. If I can use the stats on my new items, I do so, if not, I R/E trying to get new schematics
    5. Wash, Rinse, Repeat correct?

so why am I am totally OUT of money, I have a cargo FULL of materials, not not enough of certain materials to actually build anything atm, and my gear isn't all THAT great, I have gotten maybe 4-5 purple schematics, most of which aren't heavy armor so they don't even help my jedi guardian

i really dont want to re-roll and start ALL over with building skills

what am I doing wrong here?

SYNTHWEAVING DOESNT USE TREASURE HUNTING ---you need underworld trading for blues/purples.

focus mainly on keeping synth/arch equal to your level range (based on synth gear output). underworld trading is an after-thought. UT is used for blues+, which while leveling, unless you get lucky on an RE, isnt really worth messing with.

spend minimal on the tradeskill while leveling, imo. Send companions for UT on companion gifts to raise it - the metals/fabrics cost a lot of money and time.

also, consider if you're ok with it being very limited at 50...

you may want to level it to make lvl 49 gear, then drop it for something else (biochem?)

or just drop it now and deal with crappier armor while leveling.

i personally went to 400 synth/lvl50, then dropped for biochem.

  15. Hmm... odd. Maybe I was playing wrong or something. But this is my first MMO. I never was able to keep up with my synthweaving while leveling. And the armor that I got during flashpoints and the pvp armor was always better than the things available to make. It kinda sucked for me. But I'm glad you were able to use it while leveling.

It was easy enough to keep matching my level since i was leveling via pvp. at lower levels, pvp seems to be a better return than question (this changes dramatically later on though).

i always had matching level armor that i could make, it helped quite a lot. i had two spurts where i was in between gear, but i used oranges until i hit new gear levels.

i never used stims once during leveling (i know, dumb) and i rarely used a medpack. That being said, having +100 str and +40 powers (stats are different, i forget exact numbers) last through death and last for 2 hours and be reusable is sweet as hell.

  16. Well he was a sith converted to jedi. That may be why he shows up as Sith loking.

as stated by others, he is still a full blown sith. and he hates you. and he hates the jedi order.

he is using you for his purposes, essentially. you're a tool, a pawn.

  17. Go Biochem. I didn't truly understand how terrible synthweaving was until I leveled it all the way to 400 and found out that it was completely useless. During the course of the game I managed to make a single piece of armor that was useful to me. And then I replaced it shortly thereafter wtih a piece of level 50 pvp gear that was monumentally superior. The problem with synthweaving is that you will never make anything that is nearly as good as the gear you will get from drops during the game. And by the time you can make gear that is nearly that good you'll end up getting your pvp gear which is better still.

I'm level 50 and I'm now going to reroll biochem. Because unlike synthweaving, it's useful.

i had the exact opposite experience while leveling

same experience at 400/50 though... i already rerolled biochem...

  18. I'm currently level 14 on my guardian and having a bit of a rough time, I seem to take quite a large amount of damage.

Are there recommended leveling specs available yet?

i personally went focus at beginning levels to spec SLASH to increase dmg. It was a very good damage source in the super early levels.

but i'd switch to vigilence fairly early and run int to 50 (maybe go focus at 48)

having (forget skill name) the defense tier1 sunder armor improvement (2nd stack of armor reduc) is a big one too.
