  1. Well considering that Diablo 3 is something that 100% of the content can be done solo, and doesn't rely on having other people playing at all, there would be nothing to complain about in having dropping subscription numbers. That, and Diablo 3 isn't even an MMO, it is a single player game with a Multi player component, with no persistent world at all, and a lobby chat.

    :rak_04:

I just played through the D3 first act in a man group with 3 buddies. I can honestly say i havent had this much fun playing a game for years, its sooooo good. And the cinematics blew my mind.

Dont wanna sound bitter towards swtor, it has given me some light enternaiment. Its just compared to what i just experienced in D3 was so awesomesauce i would not dream of touching swtor again.

Thus i bid the swtor community adieu, good luck all and have fun all.

  2. Ridiculous.

No one expected everything WoW had, and especially not the same level of content. No one. And if they did, I'll be the first person to ridicule them.

What people expected was something new. They didn't get that. We can spend all day talking about how new and innovative TOR is, but at the end of the day its WoW with lightsabers and VO, circa 2007/08. What do you expect? This is 2012. If you are going to make a WoW clone, you damn well better have the same things it does and more, not one with a fraction of the features on a worse engine.

What you don't seem to understand is that a ton of people left WoW for this looking for something different - when they see the exact same type of game with nearly the exact same type of mechanics, its like "didn't I just leave this game?" Then, when they notice that half of the things they used to be able to do in a game that came out nearly 8 years ago they can't do here (40v40 WZ's, macros, moddable UI, real combat log, better appearance system) it quickly becomes "What the hell is the point?"

Further, when the people who tried and hated WoW begin to play TOR and notice all the similarities, it becomes another letdown. "I hated WoW, why would I like TOR?" The ablities and talents are nearly identical. The gear system is nearly identical. End game is nearly identical. I mean really, you could take any class from this game and dump it into WoW and it could probably function without too much tweaking.

Seriously, you launch a game that is basically identical to WoW without taking the time to implement the things that made it great and implementing them and then wonder why people are unhappy?

TOR launched with bare bones features - basically combat and a simple chat. No guild banks? No guild management tools? Day/night cycle? Swimming? Chairs? Combat log? Customizable UI? Chat Bubbles? LFG? Gear customization tools/Tab? The list (and its freaking long) goes on. And you know what the sad part is? I bet most people would have been just fine with having the pitiful amount in 1.2 - which we celebrated as TORs welcome to 5 years ago. Great job on those guild banks Bioware. keep up the good work.

I'm sorry but expecting this game, with the mega budget, years of development time, many other MMOs ,and plenty of examples before them to launch without nearly any features (let alone the de-facto standard), buggy as hell, on a terribly optimized engine is not mine or anyone's fault but the developers, and being surprised that people are unhappy and blaming it on the community for having "unrealistic expectations" is a joke.

This is an excellent post Frostvein.

Btw: 21 Mins to go :rak_03:

  3. D3 Intstaller is unlocked since 1H 43 min in europe.

Watching the Cinematic before the loginscreen made me remember why i love gaming:D

Thank you swtor for some light entertainemt through some weeks, its time to vanquish the burning forces of hell now.

No seriously i wish swtor all the luck to improve in the future, seeing the current state of the game though that does not even seem possible to me.

  4. Yeah, it is not a MMO. But it has a huge fanbase and is plain fun to play. 2 million played the open beta for it. I do suspect it will impact TOR's subs some. Check the server pops this tuesday evening.

As of tomorrow i am Initiating racechange Inquisitor > Barbarian:D

  5. Gotta say for me its to late, even if 1.3 would out in may, which is impossible.

When i came back from a 2 month break i was shocked to see the decline in players on my two servers.

One of them is a virtual Ghost town, i kept imagining tumbleweed on the fleet.

On the other my guild went from very active to now 0 players online, ever.

PvP seems to be reighned supreme by the melees and their king the marauder.

PvE is even worse, after trying really hard to level up an alt the idea of scratching out my eyes with a rusty spoon suddenly did'nt seem so bad anymore. Rightclick 3-5 XXX, kill XXX, bonus kill 40 XXX. ARRRRGHHH.

My class has exactly one skill that is not a copy of some wow ability, yes i know many abilities are similar in MMOs, but come on! one spell different? I would get 5 new spells in a new expansion in wow....

Dead areas etc, the only time i ever saw many players in a small area doing something(apart from mass afking people on fleet) was Ilum, but alas it turned the place into SWTOR: The Powerpoint presentation. Terrible engine ftl. The combat itself feels clunky and unresponsive also.

I could mention 841 more issues but i can't be botherd tbh.

Only thing left for me to do is walk my sentimental goodbye round in the game tomorrow, which is gonna be lame considering there is noone left in my guilds/friendlist to say goodbye to:rolleyes:

I am not sad though cause tomorrow something new starts already, D3.....I cannot wait grouping up with my buddies, smashing foes like a lawnmover through grass without a swtor-care in the world :D

    *InitiateRacechange* Sith>Barbarian :rak_04:

  6. Some good overview there OP.

I think 4 months to get fully equiped in the current top tier gear seems reasoable.

BUT your estimates are off imho, 40 coms for loosing and 90 for winning is the absolutely low end you took not the average.

Loosing usually gives more like 40 - 100 coms and winning 80 - 140 Which would make the average mor like 90 Coms pr game rather then 65 cutting a few weeks from that estimate.

  7. How many servers do you think they could conceivably condense TOR down to right now to make more "Fatman" type populated servers?

    Let's do it by

    US

    Europe

    Asia-Pacific

Here's the current number of servers for each category:

    US 123

    Europe 25

    Asia-Pacific 3

    My guesses are

    US = 8

    Europe = 4

    Asia-Pacific = 3

Mh lol am i missing something here? I am pretty sure EU has much more then 25 servers.

  8. 1) People who purchased 3 month subs at launch had a bonus month added on in April.

    2) People who purchased 6 month subs and have quit.

I'd say 90% of my guild falls within 1 and 2. The guild had 50+ members and they've literally all quit and I've no doubt this scenario is played out in many other guilds who no longer exist it TOR.

The "active subs" announcement bears little relation to people actually playing which is why it feels like there aren't 1.3 million active playing subscribers... because there aren't.

Yes after a two month break i checked game out when 1.2 released. Was SHOCKED to see my whole guild, which was pretty big and active, had completey vanished.

    1-2 other peopl peaked in.

And with my departure to New Tristram on tuesday the last breath of life leaves the guild :/

Oh well D3 is comin, cant wait!! :rak_03:

  9. I never get why people care so much about how many people are on at a given time; just wait it out for the server merges and your troubles will be over.

Yeah who cares if there are other people in an MMO?

  10. I would like to know the real number of active players, not the numbers inflated by giving everyone and their mother 30 free days shortly after 1.2 so they automatically show as active subscribers yesterday.

Looking at my server i dont think there are more then 700k Left.
