  1. oh yeah... definitely titles... some of which stem from relationships you may have with npc's on various planets :D

I'm not entirely sure if developers ever considered gender swaps at all. to be honest, even race change kinda makes me side eye it a bit, since there are occasional race specific pieces of dialogue here and there, but its still mostly cosmetic. gender? is not.

Yeah, but most NPC comments aren't based off of the player's race. I had to laugh a little bit when the Republic General on Hoth said 'Paint me blue and call me a Chiss' to my Chiss Sage after I turned in a mission.

  2. it can impact a great deal more then that. flirting options on various planets, how you are adress, and companion romance is a big enough issue not to allow it.

unlike some of the other games, gender is not merely cosmetic in SWTOR. it actually has more effect on your game then selecting advance class in many ways.

so, no, I don't think they will be implementing gender change.

Don't forget titles. There are a few gender specific titles too.

Pretty sure the Devs mentioned how complicated implementing a gender change option would be back when they were talking about the Appearance Change Kiosk. If I remember correctly, they first intended for gender change to be part of the Kiosk, but when they looked into exactly how much a player's gender was tied into the mehcanics of the player's game, they realized that they wouldn't be able to swap genders without breaking things.

  3. Agreed with the sentiment that it has been a bit too hectic in there this week. During this morning's maintenance we made a behind the scenes configuration change to reduce the number of players per instance here, to help make things a little better until the novelty and rush dies down a bit.

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to respond to the thread and the comments within. Knowing that the devs are listening to legitimate complaints does wonders for my personal piece of mind, and I appreciate the effort.

  4. Not sure where you've been, or what you've been reading, but your statement is false.

    http://www.swtor.com/blog/treek-guide-gaining-new-companion

There are two methods for getting the new companion.

1- Purchase the contract off of the Cartel Market for 2100 Cartel Coins. Doing so requires no Legacy Level requirement to be met.

2- Be at least Legacy Level 40 and purchase the contract for 1 million in-game credits.

These options are available for everyone.

If you want to unlock Treek for all of your characters, you have two routes to go about that as well.

1- Purchase the Legacy Unlock with Cartel Coins- a purchase of 700 Cartel Coins.

2- Purchase a the Legacy Unlock with credits- requires Legacy Level 40, and costs 300,000 credits.

As you can see, you don't actually have to pay a single cent on this companion to get her in game. Your argument is invalid and unnecessary.

  5. For me, Pay to Win means a game where the only way to progress and/or succeed at normal in-game content is to spend money outside of the established price of the game (ie, extra if you're subbed to a subscriber based game, or paying anything for a free game.)

Paying extra money to make things faster, or easier, or to bypass an in-game restriction is not P2W, in my opinion. That's just gamer laziness and marketing profit. Paying extra for appearance fluff is definitely not P2W because appearance does not have anything to do with playing the content.

Putting actual game content on the market would be P2W, especially if subscribers must pay for that content. At least, in my opinion.

  6. I would love this simply for the customization options that would be opened from this.

There's a moddable domino-esque mask that I would absolutely love to port over to my Bounty Hunter, but it's BOP, and there's no equivalent on the GTN. Being able to add BOL to that item would be amazing, for me.

  7. While I love the idea, I don't really see how it would be able to be implemented without potentially breaking the game.

Each companion falls into one of the 16 AC roles available to a player, even if their gear is slightly different. (Techstaffs, for example.) They each have set abilities and powers for their individual roles (and many can be switched between two different roles, however inefficient they may be at that second role.)

Getting down into the guts of the mechanics to alter the way that works would potentially conflict with a lot of game things, not to mention would probably cost a whole lot of time/money.

Alternatively, another option would be to pick a role set, kind of like an advanced class, for your companion once you get him/her. This would be permanent, and would work off a preset list of powers/abilities, and would allow players the ability to customize the way their companions compliment their characters' playstyle.

  8. Well maybe theres a serious gear problem i'm having in that case i don't know... seams like some are saying the sentinel is actually strong and some say weak... How about if i ask you like this... compared to other damage dealers is sentinel still strong in abilities and and ways of delivering damage.

I don't know how many times i've been stunned by some invisible jerk (haha) stunned stunned and dead or close to it... thats pretty effective... still too much to ask for? to get a push to get that guy of my back and get a chance to get the upper hand on the fight again.

As i said/claimed in another thread that push is something that defines the jedi just as a lightsaber does... why anyone would defend and try to make up reasons for the sentinel not to have it is just strange to me... and yes apparently the sentinel do have this power cuz i pushed up a huge door in some place in an Ilum quest ( i think it was )

True sentinel can throw lightsaber and make a looong jump and attack, then start cutting... but can't the guardian do that as well.

(It would be interesting to know how the dev team reasoned when making this decision not to grant the force push in combat)

I'm the only one who wants force push for sentinel?

My Sentinel can outjump any Guardian- offensively, at least. My 30 meter jump range has gotten me into trouble with my party's tank quite a few times, as I'd accidentally jump in before they could pull aggro.

  9. I fail to see how saying "thanks for the free $5" amounts to "bending over and taking their 'medicine'".

    Its a free $5.

    A free $5.

    Free $5.

    Free.

There is a significant difference between 'Free' and 'At no additional cost.'

Every time someone says that the 'Subscriber appreciation' grant of 500 CC was 'free,' I cringe.

I paid for those cartel coins. I paid over 12 months of subscription time for those 500CC.

And that- that right there- is the difference in opinion between the two factions here on the forums.

Is an additional 500CC a valid 'show of appreciation' to a group of people who have stuck with this game since launch or before?

Yes, we have the Founder title, yes we have the Taun-Taun pet, and if you've got the digital expansion, you've got some other things too. Even more if you're a Collector's Edition member.

But all those were one-time things, and yes, were appropriate at the time.

Since then, BW/EA has implemented a lot of changes to the game, including the Cartel Market- a feature that many subscribers do not appreciate or like at all, and some subscribers don't mind the CM itself but take issue to some features of the CM (gambling packs, pay for rep, ect.) To give these players an additional grant of Cartel Coins is not showing them appreciation at all, in their eyes, as they don't like or use the CM in the first place.

From a marketing standpoing, I can see and cede the validity of granting in-game money to subscribers as a 'thank you' gift- it's easy, and everyone knows giving a gift card is a lot less likely to get someone upset than the possibility of giving a gift that someone doesn't like.

However, at the same time, I can also see and acknowledge the viewpoint that subscribers deserve more than a quick fake 5 bucks for their loyalty and patience with the way the game is being managed. It would be one thing if, as mentioned earlier, we all saw our subscription fee for the month drop 5 bucks, but I think we all know that's not going to happen.

I'm easy to please, honestly. A title, a pet, or a speeder would have been absolutely fine- even if I never used it. I do feel a little put off by the 500 CC, though. Was it a gift? Definitely. Was it free? No. Did it show appreciation? To a lot of people, apparently not.

  10. So, I did a group run of Surgok'k and Gravak'k a little while ago, and stomped the ever living Force out of them. I then checked my achievement tracker; lo-and-behold, the legacy achievement tracker says that I haven't killed either of them at all. I know for a fact I've killed them at least twice- once for the initial area quest, and again just now.

    Anyone else having this issue?

  11. My personal pet peeve is getting flagged for PVP from healing in a PVE group. If I wanted to be flagged for PVP, I would flag myself or join a Warzone. And the 5 minute wait to unflag is frustrating to say the least.

Other pet peeves are more player related than game related, honestly. But for the most part, I've been enjoying my experience here.

  12. I've read up on a couple of the faction defection request threads floating around, and I can understand the desire to switch sides.

Story-wise, I can understand how a light-aligned SI or SW would be tempted to switch sides, and I know how the BH and Agent storylines can (if followed accordingly) tempt someone to want to defect from the Impire.

On the other side, the events on Ord Mantell and the ineffectual politic rigidity can easily push a less conforming republic character to become disallusioned with the antics of the Republic Senate and Jedi Order and possibly consider finding a place in the Impire for themselves.

However, disregarding the appeal of the Role-play aspect of this issue, and looking at the game-mechanics of the suggestion brings to light a whole mess of issues.

If you get to level 55 as an imperial- have completed 100% content on the Imperial side, and then defect to the Republic, you are going to gain access to a confusing and story-breaking perspective of the events that happened during your character's run through the imperial side. (Just looking at the way that the planets are set up- Balmorra and Taris for example. Not even thinking about the Revan-centric storyline differences for Imp and Pub sides.)

Then you get into things like the Imperial and Republic faction specific datacrons across the galaxy- small thing, yes but imbalancing still.

Then you get into more complicated things. What are you going to do with your imperial companions? Quite a few of them don't like the Republic at all. Would they leave your service, or follow you blindly? The first is an issue because you are suddenly losing your support group, and the second is an issue because it's story-breaking. How about your class-specific gear? Sniper rifles don't drop on Pub side, so Agents will be at a disadvantage, for example.

I like the theory of defection. It would allow my characters to feel more real- more like they are able to make their own valid choices about the Galaxy. However, I'm realistic and realize that the limitations of game mechanics won't allow for Faction Defection the way that most people want it.

My middle ground proposal would be to place an optional end-game (after class quest completion) side quest that would be available to all people- regardless of class or DS/LS alignment. This quest would walk people through being contacted by someone on the opposite faction who is trying to get you to defect. You then go through a series of quests to prove your willingness to defect, and at the end either join the opposite faction, or betray the contact. Doing so would grant the character either a 'Defector' or a 'Loyalist' title, and alter future dialogue with people on your side. (The grand moff is forced to contact the Defector Bounty Hunter because he's the only one in the galaxy with the skills to hunt down the target, ect.)

This would cause the least amount of stress on the game mechanics, and would allow for the role-play immersion of faction defection.

And yes, it would also probably result in a lot of open world PVP ganking of anyone with a Defector title, but that's to be expected, and would probably happen regardless of how you handle faction defection.

  13. Maybe you're sensitive...

And the second post was "snark" for a reason...he was "snark".

Yes, they were snarky, but they also had a valid point.

Personally, I have no sympathy for people who complain about something before it happens. (Unless such complaints are constructive and preventative in nature- and yours isn't.)

Have you done your patch yet today? Did you have the same issue? If not, then wait to see if it's an issue.

If so, you should present your facts- x number of the last y patches required you to do z to get the game working. You've recently checked that software/hardware/OS is up to date and not conflicting with the game software. Ect.

Oh, and you put the thread in the Customer Service area where the people who can most help you can see it.

  14. I did not "snark back" at that poster. And like I said I installed a new SSD and fresh install of windows. I also went in and made sure all my drivers were updated and turned off my virus/firewall before trying to install.

Oh, right. Cause the following isn't snark at all.

    ...

Lemme just pull out my dictionary and re-write the definition of sarcasm then.

  15. You may not be the only one with the issue, but the fact is that there are a great many people (one may even be so presumptuous to claim that it is a 'vast majority') who do not.

This seems to validate the inclination that Bioware/EA might, in fact, not be the ones at fault. That assumption may be false, but it is a valid assumption if thousands of people recieve the same patch and only a small section of that consumer base has an issue with the product.

  16. There is something the game does not like about my PC...I just put in a new SSD/new windows install and still got the same thing. Also all my drivers are updated....so call it MY PC but it's Bioware's game that does not like something on my PC.

I love how one user gives a valid suggestion followed by some sarcasm and you completely ignore their suggestion and snark back at them.

Have you tried to do a root cause trace? Or any kind of troubleshooting on your end?

Personally, I try to make sure that all my ducks are in a row before I go snarking at anyone who has a comment to provide and definitely before I start criticizing people whose jobs it is to know much more about this stuff than I do.

For the record, outdated drivers had once caused me issues with this game, and Customer Service was kind enough to explain it to me without any need for me to get snarky about it with them.

  17. And that's fine. In fact, it's encouraged- since it is a PVP area, and a free-for-all one at that.

I just wish that the quests reflected the PVP environment a little more than they currently do. And the addition of free-roaming mobs just asks for people to start fighting you while you're in combat with an Elite and at ~50% hp. Not good sportsmanship, but it's what's to be expected in a free-roaming online game.

You're on a PVP server, so I'm assuming you like PVP. How much more enjoyable would the Gree event be for you and your compatriots on POT5 be if instead of grinding out droids for drops, you had to (individually or as a group) conquer and flip a flag or objective for your faction? That's an inherently PVP quest and encourages you to defend/attack people on the same quest as you, and can include the large-scale tactics that make massive PVP battles enjoyable.

  18. The part I highlighted red is a very valid concern. Continuing to be flagged against your will outside of the PvP area is not how it is supposed to work and I certainly understand that players went to a PvE server specifically for this reason.

I do not, however, agree that quests must be strictly player related to qualify as PvP or that PvE players wouldn't want to compete if they were that way. Open world PvP can have many objectives such as say capturing a castle or fort in a fantasy MMO. You don't strictly have to fight players to do so and could potentially trade it back and forth to gain whatever rewards there are, but the idea is to fight for it and keep it. I see the PvP quests the same way.

I also disagree that PvE players would not take part if it was player kills. If players want whatever reward is waiting (helix components or reputation), then they will take part in the event. If they can't compete because of X or Y, then they will QQ until X or Y is changed. Both sides are the same way, it just only seem to be PvE that gets help in completing their objectives. You can say that the NPCs being easier in the PvP area makes up for it, but it's not like having easier mobs to kill doesn't help the PvE players as well.

I will cede that players who want the reward given for the quest will complete- or attempt to complete- the quest regardless of PVP or PVE elements.

I bolded the portion of your response that is of particular interest/relevance to my argument, however. I agree that objective capturing is a valid and common mechanic in PVP quests- in the original Ilum OWPVP area, that was the main mechanic, in fact. The truth remains, however, that the current PVP quests for the Gree event is not even that kind of objective. You don't have to fight over an objective, you don't need to capture flags/gates/what have you.

The only quest that is close to being similar to an objective defense/capture type of PVP event in the Gree quest bank is the one where you need to take the orbs to the center of the area- and for the most part I see people waiting in lines to activate the panel. Maybe it's because I'm on a PVE server, but I've never seen any significant PVP combat going on in that area- the most I've seen is a grouped team of 4 camping on the center to gank anyone who came near with orbs, and I don't really consider that PVP so much as douchebaggery.

  19. The real issue here that I see- and that hasn't really been mentioned by the OP outside his ineffectual whining about the method of the Bolster application- is that all the quests in the Gree event are PVE quests.

By that I mean that you are given an objective/target that is not another player/group of players, or that is not necissarily being claimed by another group of players. The two so-called PVP quests in the Gree event could just as easily be completed if there wasn't a PVP area in the event.

It'd be one thing if the drops that you needed to gather from the droids were dropped by players that you beat, or if the quest was to 'participate in X number of player vs player conflicts' with wins counting double- similar to how the weekly PVP quests work. But as it is, there are PVE quests that take you into an area where people who like to combat other players call home.

That in and of itself is flawed, but when you compound that with the fact that you then take your PVP flag outside of the PVP area and continue to get ganked by PVP players who follow you because you're an easy target, the issue becomes something that ruins player enjoyment of the event.

The OP's original argument is invalid, in my opinion, because (as was stated before) nearly all of the PVE objectives are available at a decreased difficulty in the PVP zone- this is the mob equivalent of PVPers getting a Bolster for PVE quests. As such, the OP's gripe has been addressed by the developers- and has been addressed since the initial launch of the event.

However, I have seen and continue to see PVP flagged people continuing their combats outside of the PVP area (on a PVE server) and this completely validates the need for an event-wide Bolster for PVE players who wish to do a quick PVP grind of two quests for completionist's sake, and then get out and do the rest of the PVE content. Or for those who don't even do any of the PVP content, but who group with people for the Heroic 4, and get flagged for healing their flagged party member.

The real solution to the attitude behind the argument in this thread would not be to 'pass out PVE equivalent gear' to PVP players, but to actually have PVP objectives during the event. If that were the case, PVE players would not have any desire to enter the PVP area of the event, and PVP players would not have a need to go into the PVE area of the event to gank unsuspecting PVE players. (except for those who find enjoyment in such, but I hear that calling for help on general chat can cause some pretty epic PVP wars when such things happen.)
