  1. What server are you on?

Unfortunately I think this is becoming reality for most servers. I'm on Darth Malak. It was hugely populated early on in the game (as I guess most of them were) and now it's dying down. And what they said is right ^^^ as the planets get on it becomes a real problem. I'm on Belsavis and it's to the point that I don't bother to try to do every heroic like I used to. I'll abandon/leave most of them. It's incredibly hard to get a group.

You'll have more luck on weekends but it still may be tough.

  2. Shield+force speed and ability to heal makes sorcs much less squishier than sniper. Snipers have much weaker shield, longer CD on knockback and no escape tool other than flashbang (which often failsdue to resolve or friendly damage), also no healing. BTW bioware stated that all DD specs should do same amount of damage, but sorcs can heal themselves, snipers cant. Assassins too are squishieras they basicly have everything sorc have, a few defensive CDs but its nowhere near static shield or an ability to heal. They also have to stay in melee range to be effective where sorc does pew pew and can los target if needed. Ops are squishy too and they die if their burst fails. Pyropowertechs dont have any escape tools or CC abilities (other than 45 sec CD pull and aoe stun, not enough to stay alive or prevent enemy from escaping), they do have some nice damage though, but its not rare.

While its not a good healer it can heal itself without gimping beyond the pint of being useless. If ops casts 2 heals in row he'll get to 60 energy point and any get below that (= using any skill) means that he'll be less efficient due to lower energy regen. Sorcs dont have problems like that, they have huge manapool and can spam lightning as much as they want where ops will have to stick to his default rifle attacks (see saber strike for sorc) until his regen goes to optimal level, or try to burn rest of the energy in an attempt to burst down sorc (which is often ineffective as failure means death). They can use 2min CD to get 50 energy back and its fine, yet sorcs dont have to use any CDs for stuff like that.

I'm really unfamiliar with snipers or ops, so this is all new to me, and sorcs may very well be better off than them in every way you listed, just my original point wasn't about that. I'm not even necessarily saying that sorcs don't need a nerf, but I just can't believe when people talk up their non-existent tanking or non corruption healing abilities. Too many times have I seen people say there's "no point in a sorc speccing healing" because you can heal just as good, and whether or not they were exaggerating their point is well taken and completely absurd. Same for tanking. As a sorc I cannot emphasize enough how untankable I am in pve, and when handled well in pvp it is very possible to kill even a good sorc.

It's just that people take their feelings about it and take it to a completely different level, the claims become outrageous, and you can't help but feel like they're just bad if they truly feel like they can't handle a sorc because he's a good "tank." That's all I was really saying.

  3. 1. Play sniper or non-tank assassin, you'll understand what "squishy" means.

    2. Try non-healing merc or ops, you'll change your mind.

Just because snipers may be a bit weaker in terms of hp doesn't mean the sorc isn't squishy also. It undeniably is, regardless if it's the last or 2nd to last regarding squishyness.

And I think you're referring to a non healing sorc, let me know if you were referring something else, but any non healing class is irrelevant to what I meant. A non corruption sorc is not a good healer, that's just completely true, I'm sure non healing mercs or ops are the same way I'm not denying that...but that doesn't make a non healing sorc a "good" healer. There's just no way a non corruption/non hybrid sorc can be a competent healer with just those 2 default heals.

  4. I'm sick of seeing people complain about sorcs that know nothing about sorcs. This is not to say that no one knows anything about them, but there are a couple of things that blow my mind that I see being said WAY too often:

    1. SORCS CAN'T TANK, in pvp or pve. They just can't. It is as simple as that. Yes, sorcs have bubbles. Bubbles that do not hold up past 2 or 3 legitimate attacks. Once it's down, do you guys realize how squishy they are? If you don't, and you still can't kill them, you have a serious problem with your playing. This is unarguable.

    2. A non healing specced sorc CAN'T HEAL TO ANY FATHOMABLE DECENT LEVEL. Some sort of hybrid may have very medicore heals, but to say a non healing specced sorc is a better healer than any other sort of healer, especially specced, is absolutely outrageous. I'll have you know that my non healing specced sorc has 2 just flat out terrible heals, a quick one that does nowhere near enough healing to be considered anything of use, and one slightly better one with an unreasonable cast time for it's low amount of healing. These are facts. Healing specced sorcs are great at it. DPS are not.

I can't believe I see these arguments so much.

Anyways, in terms of burst damage, full lightning spec isn't that bad, with the right procs set up I do some pretty good burst.

  5. As everyone said keep the shield up on both Khem and yourself (remember, you can do both at the same time; the shield can't effect a single target more than once every 20 secs or so but you can use it on another target immediately after cd). Make good use of recklessness (cd isn't that long, use it often) and never forget the aggro-lowering ability, I can't remember the name but try your best make sure they focus on Khem.

Heal Khem if you can and use medpacs for yourself. Use your CC on any enemies you may have to really focus on in mobs so you can heal up when all the others are dead and hit them hard.

In my experience so far (lvl 42 lightning sorc) when a fight gets rough the key to staying alive is really focusing and making good use of your utility, which as a sorc is a huge advantage. If Khem is keeping mobs occupied, keep DPSing the hell out of mobs and keep the bubble up on the both of you at ALL POSSIBLE TIMES. When things get harder then that, make good use of your stun, knockbacks, don't be afraid to whirlwind in the middle of a fight, and even force slow (can be fun when couples with force speed and force lightning). You'll be fine once you solidify your playing, good luck man.

And never forget to use channel the force for tough bosses :)

  6. I haven't played either yet, but I'm assuming if you're looking to tank you should go trooper. I don't think any form or spec of smuggler is meant for any sort of tanking. Both have good damage capabilities though. Others will have much more knowledge for you
  7. Really?...... I've been able to choose a legacy name for over a month, I close the window everytime, till I think of something, don't want it chosen for me

^^^ This. I've been closing my window for a few weeks now as I think of one. Granted, people may have made a quick choice thinking that you couldn't do this. I wasn't sure if I would lose my chance if I x'd it out the first time, but I figured I'd rather have no name than one I'd want to change later. Fortunately it's still waiting for me to choose.

  8. Does anyone know of any plans to merge servers or transfer characters? I'm on the Darth Malak server from the very beginning. I've been loving it; for a while, the population was pretty dense. Everyone's really cool and I've been having fun in PVE and PVP. However, like most servers apparently, it's been much more empty, particularly as the planets go on. I landed on Quesh last night and there was 8 people, including me. Eight people. I understand this is beyond the control of the devs in and of itself, and I still love playing, but this is an MMO...servers should probably be merged at this point. I can go play a game of Halo with twice as many people than were on the entire planets of Quesh last night.

The worst part of this, other than the lack of interaction (on a pvp server) is that on the past few planets I've left many many heroics undone because I simply couldn't find anyone to do them with. Is server merging a discussion at all this point?

That aside, still loving the Darth Malak server.

  9. What the **** I can't even imagine tanking with my sorc my static shield is nice but is in NO WAY making me a tank, in both PVE and PVP O have many times had it knocked off in a matter of a few seconds. Then I'm squishy as hell. Who are you playing against?!

Oh, and anyone who says a truly dps specced sorc heals just as good as a healing sorc has absolutely no *********** idea what they're talking about. If you base this off a sorc healer that you've played with they were terrible. End of story. As a dps sorc I have 2 very subpar heals that never do anything for me because of their very mediocre to just plain bad total healing to casting time ratio. Maybe they're useful in PVE when you have little to no aggro, but if a dps sorc is getting away with healing in PVP then the other players are doing something terribly wrong. I can't even see why this is up for discussion.

  10. I'm a psych major and actually did a big paper and literature review on anger last semester. There's been a couple of studies that prove that anger and focus/selective attention are related. I'd have to check the paper as I forgot the exact studies, but look it up. It's true. Think about any real life situation; genuine, intense anger narrows the attention down to the source over anger. IMO, and according to many studies, it's very much true.
  11. It's true. There's been several nods to that name in the EU. Off the top of my head there's Starkiller from The Force Unleashed and I do believe in KOTOR there was someone on Taris named Bendak Starkiller? Something like that. Not a coincidence :)
  12. There are two simultaneous issues here, and I think Lucas is right on one and wrong on the other.

    1. I think he has a legitimate complaint with the prequels. I saw the original Star Wars when it came out, so I'm a long-time fan, but I actually liked the prequels. I thought they were good, and about the same story-quality as Jedi. Other people didn't like them, which is perfectly fine.

But these are the movies Lucas made. These are the prequels to Star Was that he - the creator of Star Wars - envisioned. Of course, many fans would like it and many wouldn't.

I think it's legitimate for him to complain about the fan reaction, though. The people that didn't like the prequels didn't just "not like" them. They hated Lucas for making them. They cursed him and called him horrible names and treated him like he was some kind of monster that ruined Star Wars.

Fact is, the prequels did not ruin Star Wars, even if you hate them. Star Wars is still there. You don't like the prequels, well, just watch the originals and leave the prequels to the people that like them. And the complete hatred for Lucas was uncalled for.

    Until...

    2. He made it so we could not, in fact, go enjoy the originals. He changed them in some small but very important ways and he basically took the movies we grew up on and hid them in some vault like the death star plans. Then he replaced them with revised versions that we didn't want. In this case, you can't say "If you don't like it, just watch the originals" because it's very difficult to get your hands on the originals, and it's impossible to do so in the newest medium (blu ray).

In this case, he (in my opinion) is just wrong and it's completely valid for fans to accuse him of ruining Star Wars.

Of course, that could be completely repaired if he'd just release the originals on Blu Ray. I would have absolutely no complaints about the man if he had just included the originals on the recent Blu Ray.

Poodoo. Sorry. I talk too much.

I agree with alot of this. When you have something as loved as the original trilogy, there's really nothing you can do to please every existing fan, no matter what anyone says. Some will like it, some won't. Although everyone here seems to hate the prequels, and says that everyone else do, you realize there is as big of a population, if not larger, that enjoys them. This was all inevitable.

I think things turn problematic when people jump on the bandwagon. Think of how much George has given us. Everything Star Wars, any EU that ever came from it, is a direct result of what George has given us. He also gave his fans the opportunity to create the EU we all love so much (fun fact: when establishing the rules of the EU, George mentioned midichlorians. He established these rules, if I'm not mistaken, in the late 70s/early 80s. For those that believe Geroge bull******* the prequels 100% for money, or that he didn't have a huge vision of the first 3 episodes already written back during the OT time, think again.)

It's a shame that people bash him so hard when the good that he's given us FAR outweighs the bad. He gave us 3 amazing movies (arguably more, depending on your own opinion) and directly handed us the reigns to the EU. Why say so many bad things about his prequels? Why not say good things about the OT? About how he gave us the EU? About the fact that without him, none of this would exist and that we wouldn't be posting on this board?

You may not like the prequels. That's perfectly fine. But it sure makes you seem like a pompous ******e when that's all you complain about and never say a good thing about SW or talk about the parts of it you like. You don't see someone who doesn't like the OT (which do exist) bashing that all the time.

Also, if you hate George so much, stop giving him money. Surely you're all smart enough to realize that he's profiting of the game you've been playing every day.

  13. Unless you read the novelization of Return of the Jedi, you didn't know that the Emperor's name was Palpatine. It was never mentioned in the movies. Nor was it ever mentioned ANYWHERE that Palpatine got his start as a Senator, nor that he was from Naboo.

Ok hold on...when was the name Palpatine actually first used?? I'm confused now because, as a 9 year old kid when I saw Ep I in theatres, I already knew Palpatine would become evil just by hearing his name. I knew Palpatine was the Emperor from the OT, which I loved and watched way before Ep 1 came out. And as a kid I definitely never read any of the books  is his name really never mentioned in the OT??

  14. If you're talking about TOR itself, nothing as of yet I don't think. But if you're talking about the Old Republic timeline in general, there's several action figures from KOTOR like Revan, Malak, and Bastila. Unfortunately I think they tend to run pretty pricey =/. As time goes on they might totally make TOR figures. A Malgus figure would be epic!
  15. Most of the people who ***** about the midichlorians don't properly understand them. They don't GIVE you powers. They are not the Force by any means whatsoever. They are the middle man. They make you AWARE of the Force; they make you able to FEEL it and recognize it, not able to USE it. Anakin had a high midichlorian count which did not indicate that he was the strongest Force user ever, it indicated that he had the potential to be. Clearly he did not fill that potential due to his own arrogance and personality flaws. If midichlorians were the Force themselves, don't you think Anakin would have been at his utmost power from the very beginning?

You can complain about them all you want, who cares, and I'm not saying that you shouldn't hate the idea of them because of this. But at least understand what the **** you're complaining about because this is the most misunderstood part of all of SW lore.

Everyone can shape their own opinions about the PT, but do not underestimate or discredit just how much they lent themselves to the lore, understanding, and scope of the entire saga. That doesn't mean you have to like them nor does it mean you have to hate them.

"It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells."

―George Lucas, establishing guidelines for the Expanded Universe in 1977

    ^from Wookieepedia.

  16. GL has stated that Vader, after being put in the suit, was about 80% of Palpatine's power. Palpatine, also stated by GL, is the strongest Sith lord to have ever lived. Do the math ;)

Had he not been put in the suit, he would have been twice as strong as Palpatine...once again, as stated by Lucas.

In regards to The Force Unleashed...I'm pretty sure as far as Shaak Ti's death goes, her death in TFU is canon. It's described in her Wookieepedia page as her actual death. Lucas has a HUGE part in TFU, in fact, the only SW video game he ever really had a part in. It is canon and is what happened between eps 3 and 4. As far as her other death scenes, wasn't the ep 3 one a deleted scene? I don't know the others, if anyone could explain...

  17. Given what we know about Palpatine, the mastermind that he is, the way he mapped out events and manipulated EVERYTHING to his own will, plus how strong he was in the force...wouldn't you think it would be incredibly dangerous to have started training Luke earlier? Hell, with no detection for however many years, he still would have killed Luke had it not been for Anakin. If that happened, Leia would have then been the only potential Jedi in the galaxy and, more likely then not, would have never known this/come to any of her potential. Who would have trained her? The galaxy would have been ****ed.

That being said, imagine how quickly things could have went wrong had Palpatine discovered Luke earlier. I don't think it was as much of a cowardice issue as a desperate, final attempt to keep the Jedi, and any hope for the Rebellion, alive. Maybe. ;)

  18. ^ well that pretty much sums it all up, as much as it pains me to know that Yoda legitimately lost.

It also pretty much solidifies that Yoda was stronger than Mace, or any Jedi, by the way it describes him, at least in the Force. But was he a better duelist?

And speaking of being wise, I think it's epic that Mace tapped into the dark side while fighting Palpatine- he knew what was at stake, and that holding back his emotions or skills was of little importance at that time. He was even willing to kill Palpatine at the end, clearly against the Jedi way, and he was right- he WAS too dangerous to be left alive. Jedi code or not.

  19. Bob Anderson. A living legend.

He choreographed the fight scenes in the LOTR movies, stunt doubled as DV in Star Wars: A New Hope

    .

Did he? I know he played Vader during the lightsaber fights in eps V and VI but I didn't know he was in A New Hope at all. Interesting.

A little eerie to me seeing that he died on the 2nd, as on the 1st I was watching him in the original trilogy marathon on tv for hours. RIP Bob.
