  1. Well, I'm not going to argue with you... Sorry you didnt like the game, but again I stand by my whiner complaint because as much as you didnt like the game, or it wasnt for you, or whatever... you're still here making posts....

    good luck

What would you call a non-"whiner" way to voice my issues with the game?

Also, is there a cut-off date for when I am no longer allowed to post about the game when I've stopped playing?

  2. Anyway my point was, we don't need a new "I quit because" post every other day...

That others have posted their exit threads shouldn't prohibit me from posting mine. If no one is interested in what I have to say, no one will respond.

Eaware is not going to email you back and say "Wow, you brought very insightful and thought provoking issues up that we have never heard before, and/or didnt know existed. Please come back and we'll fix them"

You're arguing against a claim I never made. I have repeatedly stated that I do not expect Bioware to change the game to suit me.

The reality is your issues that you put out, while relevant and good points, are not new...

Yes, of course. I know that; I've seen many threads about the same issues. Where we differ is that I don't see the harm in adding my voice to the mix. If you're not interested, just don't read the thread. Not that I'm trying to drive you away! But if a thread subject doesn't concern me, then I wouldn't respond to the thread in the first place. What would be the point?

  3.

We don't care why you quit. If you want to get some constructive critisim out than email eaware... All the current players don't care why you left, or if you come back...

Who are you speaking for? Several posters in this thread have written that they share some of my concerns. So contrary to your claim you do not speak for the player base as a whole.

  4. The killing mobs problem boils down to lack of quest diversity, I think.

Higher quest diversity would help, but I'm not sure it would solve the issue of too many, too similar fights, with too little emotional reward.

Anyway. I'm sorry to see you go. Hope you give the game a try again sometime in the future, and that by then enough changes have been made to it so that you find it to your liking.

I might! This isn't a "I'll never eat in this restaurant again!" thread. I'm not clamoring for changes with the game. If it works for enough people that it's profitable for Bioware, then good for all of them! Of course, should the game change to accommodate my preferences, I'd be happy to give it another go.

I doubt I'll try another MMO, since the thing that drew me to SWTOR was the SW aspect.

  5. Something you bought or installed is a piece of crap, and you're blaming the game for it.

I'm blaming the game because other people have the same issue, and because SWTOR is the only game to ever have this particular problem on my system.

You expected an MMO to be like a single player game. You were wrong.

This is true to a certain degree. I didn't expect the game to be like a single-player game, but I did go in without previous MMO experience. That at least one person in this thread has tried to paint this as bad is baffling to me.

Your issues with the game only exist with your hardware, software, and mind.

Where else would an issue with the game exist but in my mind? Do you experience and process the game without your mind? I don't understand what you're trying to say here. I never claimed that my issues with the game were problems for everyone. In fact, I repeatedly stated that my issues are just that - my issues. Suggesting that these problems only exist for me makes me go "uh, yeah?".

    Goodbye.

Bye! Have fun with the game!

  6. If the game is reading their monitor EDID, then setting its aspect ratio to the EDID, then you must be letting the game auto-detect your settings.

    And you would be wrong.

Or you have your video card set differently. Its hard to diagnose a PC problem just by text chat.

And yet you try, though you know perfectly well that you lack most of the relevant info. So what are you trying to accomplish?

I frequent these forums daily, and have done so since beta testing. This is the first I've heard of the EDID problem. I tried to do a search about it here on the forums, the thread you linked to full of the "this suggestion is not working for me" responses was all I could find. If its affecting people, its affecting very few, the thread you linked was only 3 pages long.

So? It's affecting only a few people. I never said otherwise. At no point have I claimed that this was some widespread issue. On the contrary - I have, again and again, said that these very MY issues with the game. Nowhere have I said that these were problems that others were having.

You are arguing against something I never said.

I'm not making any accusations at all.

    Of course you are.

And your claim that not being able to fix an EDID/aspect ratio issue is somehow evidence of a lack of PC knowledge is almost as funny as that other guy trying to bring school massacres into the thread. Your expectations of what people should know to get the game to properly run are way off.

Also, try Googling for aspect ratio or squeezed graphics. There isn't just one thread on the issue on these or other forums.

Also also? 12 years of practice? Okay. So, hey, do you remember when we had to manually fine-tune memory settings via autoexec.bat and config.sys to get games to run? Oh wait, that was a little before your time...

I'm not claiming that I get it more because I have more years of practice. That would be ridiculous, because neither one of us can back these claims up. They're meaningless.

  7. I don't have the EDID issue, as I don't let games auto-detect my system specs then set its own settings, because I've yet to play the game that sets itself according to my system specs with any accuracy. That includes setting the resolution right.

Again you misrepresent the EDID problem. It has nothing to do with auto-detection. Have you actually researched whether people who experience the aspect ratio problem use auto-detect or not? Or are you, once again, making unfounded accusations?

This is your first MMO, you didn't know what to expect, then came here to post and rip the game a new one with your issues?

I didn't "rip the game a new one". My tone wasn't hostile, and I didn't use any insults or expletives. Contrary to many others on this thread.

My advice to you is, if you didn't like this one, then I wouldn't bother trying any others, MMOs are clearly not for you.

That seems to be the case!

  8. so really, your needlessly over-complicated, is my rpg fun. aka - different strokes and this game seems to be not your thing. which brings me to you "grind doesn't feel fun to me" feel is a key word here. as well as "you" it doesn't feel fun to YOU. doesn't make it unfun. so "fixing" it for example, may or may not make it more fun to YOU, but it may also make it less fun to someone else. see where I'm going with it?

Of course I do. I have stated so several times thoughout the thread.

if you are hoping that developers change the game to suit your personal preferences more?

I'm not, as I have also stated. I'm looking further ahead.

  9. Then the problem lies with you, not the game

    That's entirely possible!

Every MMO has travel times, deal with it. It isn't a problem for most people. Again, I suspect a lack of patience on your part.

What is it with the accusations here? "Your computer must have been designed by Babbage himself!", "Your character is deeply flawed for not enduring this game!"

Not, I pointed out how its better here than most MMOs. I guess that just isn't good enough for you, though.

    No, I guess it isn't.

Then, learn how to set it yourself, it isn't hard to do at all. I manually set all video settings for each game I play, tweaking each on over time for optimal performance within each game. I know what my display resolution is, my refresh rate, what my video card(s) can handle in terms of Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.

Okay? What's that got to do with the game's EDID issues?

I'm sorry, but the issues you are having are not the game's fault. They're your fault. The very fact you seem adamantly bent on defending your reasons and laying blame with the game, just shows how disappointed you are that the game didn't live up to your expectations.

Of course I'm disappointed with the game. If I wasn't, I'd still be playing.

Sorry, but when a game that already exceeds the standards of many MMOs in some ways (but SW:TOR isn't perfect, and does fail in some ways, like every other MMO), because it didn't meet your standards, and because you know little about video card settings, you can't expect sympathy from people, which it seems is what you are looking for, by posting "I unsubbed",

This is ridiculous. Fixing EDID issues is in no way a routine PC user task that can be expected to get a game to run. Especially when using the only user-provided fix that helps some people doesn't help everyone whose issue appears to be the same.

then attacking every person who didn't agree with you

I have at no point attacked anyone. I have been insulted several times in this thread, yet I have not stooped to insulted myself, and have for the very most part concentrated my responses to the arguments other people have made. Others, like you, have made disparaging personal comments. I haven't.

, listing reasons as legitimate, if not more so, than your own.

"That's just the way it is" isn't a legitimate reason. It's fatalism.

  10. You're being evasive because you know you're wrong.

I'm not being evasive. What I'm doing is not responding to a deeply inappropriate "comparison" designed to stir up flames by bringing in a controversial, off-topic, politically-charged subject.

Please stop acting stupid, it's not cute. It's the principle of the matter, not the actual actions.

You compared posting on a forum to murdering children.

  11. The "grind" in SW:TOR is almost non-existent compared to many MMOs. Go play EVE Online PvE or LotrO, then come back and talk about a grind. Plus, our characters are designed to take on mobs of normal enemies, so your "hundreds of mooks" point is irrelevant. SW:TOR is easy street in grinding compared to most MMOs.

That doesn't change how the grind in this game feels to me, does it?

The game is only just over a year old, the first expansion is coming out, and they are streamlining abilities and talent trees. Again, there are currently more MMOs out right now that are WAY more needlessly complex than SW:TOR, and even after years of being online, these other MMOs are STILL streamlining abilities (WoW and LotrO pop to mind).

Again, that other games have the same issue doesn't solve the problem here.

My load time is about half a minute. Of course, my older games don't have such load times, but again, SW:TOR is only over a year old and it takes a minute for the game to load up the entire area you are in, so you don't get load wait times while travelling to sub-areas in the game.

Really? Your planetary load screens only last about 30 seconds on average?

Again, go play LotrO for awhile, then come back and discuss. Travelling times here are peanuts compared to other MMOs. It takes only a minute or two to cross an entire map from one speeder point to another, and maybe 5-10 minutes to all areas around a speeder point. It sounds to me you just have little patience for travelling.

You keep saying that it's even worse in other games. But that doesn't stop it being a problem in this one. "It could be worse" doesn't loop back around to "good" just because, well, it could be worse.

This sounds like an issue with your video card, and not the game. I run a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 with the latest drivers at 1920 x 1080 resolution. I have no video issues with the game. It sounds like your system is just old, or you're playing on an old cathode ray monitor (not a flatscreen or widescreen, but the old school monitors). Most new games will look weird when played on an old cathode ray monitor.

    No, I don't have a CRT monitor.

Did you read the thread I linked to? The issue is explained in detail there. It's about how the game uses your display's EDID info to judge its aspect ratio.

  12. This is your first MMO as you stated, guess what MMO's aren't for you move on, I thought you quit

    Yes, I did.

.....or did you start a new game called Forum Warrior? /holdsup Keyboard of Defense +5.....

As I have previously stated, I have not engaged in hostilities. Other people, though, have. Yet you attempt to characterize me as a "Forum Warrior"...

  13. Lurkers who like you, say they cancelled sub but continue to post on the forums.

I don't think that everyone who posted that they shared some of my concerns also posted that they don't play the game anymore. Though I haven't read much of the forums in the last few months. These posters could well have made such statements in other threads.

If it's so bad of an experience for you, then stop playing.

    I did.

No one's keeping you here with a gun to your head saying PLAY SWTOR OR ELSE HAHA, end of story.

    I didn't claim anyone was.

    EDIT:

You aren't flaming anyone I agree there. You're doing worse. You started a thread that you knew would be highly controversial. Give a pyromaniac a match and a can of gas. Think he wouldn't? Please...

The behavior of other people in this thread is on them, not on me.

  14. 1: The grind is simply part of MMOs. and even normal bioware games, how often do you just walk up to a boss and kill him without haveing to go through his mooks in any game? many of the planets in TOR are fairly hostile worlds often war zones. it's remarkably easy to dodge combat compared to how it is in single player games.

Well, I think the amount of grind is problematic, and also its lacking implementation. Grind can be okay, but it isn't here.

3: the load times on some worlds are a bit slow but I've played single player games that are worse. load screens are just something you have to deal with when your compiter is communciating with hundreds of others.

How do you figure? I get that under certain circumstances you might have to wait on players with slower systems, that's not something Bioware can change. But planetary load screens are purely a local matter, or are they not?

4: as for the world being too big, that's hardly true. compared to most MMOs the world is remarkably compact. it's actually a common complaint. a big part of the appeal of MMOs is being able to explore the world. to sue a single player analogy. think Skyrim.

If I have to let my speeder run almost straight ahead for several minutes to get from one quest site to another, and nothing meaningful happens during that time, I think the game's implementation of the world is lacking something.

  15. I guess you didn't pick up on my meaning.

I HIGHLY DOUBT ANYONE CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS.

More than one person has posted in this very thread that they share some of my concerns. Did you not see their posts?

So kindly see yourself to the door and stop flaming the forums about not liking the game. Kthxbai.

I am not flaming anyone. Several other posters have stooped to insults in this thread, while I have maintained a civil tone throughout. Yet you have not spoken out against people who have posted actual flames in this thread.
