  1. This may be as good a place to ask a question instead of just making an entire thread. Does anyone know what planets Zakuul raided in their initial strike at the Republic and Empire other than Korriban? Looking more on the Republic side for a story I'm piecing. Searched quite a bit and only found that some think Taris was one. If so I'll just utilize that but rather make certain or as close to certain as one can get with the limited info provided ((unless I totally missed something which is possible)).

    Thanks for any assistance.

  2. Mercenary:

I want to like it, but everything just puts me off. I'm not big on healing, I HATE how some of the animations have you holding your blasters like some kind of dimwit gangster trying way too hard to look cool (how do you even aim with your blasters sideways and arms crossed?), I'm not a big fan of the excessive rockets or most of their animations, and to be honest the gameplay just feels slow and clunky to me.

If I recall correctly, you turn your blasters sideways because you are shooting missiles from your wrist launcher or whatever they wish to call it. You are not shooting your blaster sideways like a "dimwit gangster". You are shooting from top of your wrist, hence you must turn your wrist which in turn makes your gun go sideways.

  3. No they aren't. If you know how to play them, you've got no problems. But i know it's hard to learn it, someone in my guild is playing a sent for three years now and i still hope he quits or change his main, because he can't play. So no offence, but l2p.

Must be a lot of learn to play folks out there because what the OP stated I have seen quite often since 3.0. Can't say personally as I haven't played the class in a long while but I wouldn't just brush his statements off with a l2p since it seems to hold some merit. A few posts stating it, yeah, but when it is coming in masses and from even those who do not play the class then there most likely is a problem.

  4. How is it a million cred loss? Are we speaking for each alt? I would think a lot of you guys who have been here a while would have a ton of creds since I've only been back for six months and have a couple of characters at about 3 mil each. To be expected with how long the game has been around. It sucks for some of us who just came back or new players though. But we aren't the majority of the playerbase honestly.
  5. Well, no one can say you didn't give it a fair shake after that whole 15 minutes for a period of adjustment.

LOL well said. The comparison to rancid beef was, well, rather idiotic. This isn't a product in such a way. It is a product that you have to experience and learn the manner of its design to have a valid feeling about one way or another. Going into with an already negative attitude means that 8 times out of 10 you're going to nitpick and look for anything that will validate your original feeling.

But hey if you don't like it to such an extent then you should move on to where you are happy. I will wait and actually experience it before I make such a decision.

  6. Guess it's more regarding viewpoint. I am only level 47 but I have felt melee has been a bit of a pain in pvp for me. Only recently returned to the game like a month ago and since all my capped characters got deleted by my son when it went F2P I rolled Guardian since I never saw the story.

At times the pvp feels fluid and good but a lot of the other times it just feels like a chaotic mess (warzones more than the 4vs4 fights). Targetting may be one of the main issues. Half the time I don't know who I am targetting with all the running around, strafing and jumping like Mexican jumping beans. Could be because I always feel like I got at least four people on top of me. My damage tends to be in the middle of the pack and medal count. Is this normal at this stage for this class/spec?

I know when I leap on my sorceror I am at the top of medal count darn near every time and the fights are easier to focus so range just may be better for me. Though part of me wonders if I haven't gotten use to melee in this format and I just need to be patient and keep pushing because it gets easier to manage as I go. My previous capped characters were a Sage (Heals) and Scoundrel (Scrapper). So does it just come down to continued practice or does it just sound like melee is something I should pause on for now?

  7. Hmm, we're talking male? Because honestly I would think 2 would be the perfect fit. Stand them next to a body 3 and you'll see what I mean. It's like big brother and little brother. Heh, unfortunately there is no 2.5 but yeah I think you would be set with #2.
  8. Keep up the good work Bioware?

As another poster stated, what WoW did back in the day is irrelevant but since you wish to go there...did WoW lose more than 50% of it's box sales in retention? Umm...no. ToR has. That isn't good work Bioware. You aim for no more than 20%. You have to be seeing things through rose colored glasses if you really think they are doing a good job.

Seven months in you still see some of the same bugs you saw in beta and that is a good job? Bugs that some of the consumer base reported time and time again? Seven months in some basic features of a mmo that some have requested aren't on. Instead they are fed the line 'Will be available relatively soon'. Of course Bioware said this about certain features like five months ago relatively soon in their book is way different than the next persons.

And when you have to close so many servers you are not doing a good job. Did they make too many? Initially they had enough then added more servers in January. But they didn't add THAT many new servers to requires the obvious mergers they just went through. In other words they lost a heck of a lot of players. They sold 2.4 boxes initially so obviously have less than 50% of that.

Granted if you think they have a million subs you are kidding yourself. The 1.3 reported was inflated as is with trials and those they granted free time to as it was stated that number was reported as of the time of the report for the quarterly reports and not the subs at the end of the quarter. Some folks are really reaching and need to be more objective. The facts are what they are.

  9. Yes it will be on the rise I believe. The reason most people left WAS the population. But it's AWESOME now. and they aren't even done yet  so I believe they will have risen some.

Huh? Your theory makes no sense. The reason most people left was not the population. You can't have population issues without a decrease in your number from the beginning. In other words, something else made those players leave. Some left because of population after the initial decrease but not some majority like you're stating. Go to various places and you will see the issues many raise were well beyond just population which was merely a side effect of other issues and none of those have changed yet though 1.3 will take care of some.

Problem is with the MMO crowd once you make a bad impression it is rather difficult to earn them back. Very hard. There are still threads surfing the net 'Can ToR be saved?' 'What will it take to make ToR savagable?' 'Time to bring back SWG?' etc., etc.

Let's be real. We just went through 'voluntary' server mergers. You don't do that because things are going oh so awesome. They just compacted dozens of servers. Not a couple. Not a handful. Dozens. It's hard enough when your first impression left a foul taste in the mouth of some. It's even worse when you have new games releasing.

  10. I think folks sort of answered your questions.

Is it still as popular? No. Anyone saying otherwise is reaching. But does this mean 'turn off the lights!' Not at all. The population is stablizing to what will probably be a core of a playerbase. The transfers will help level out some servers and maybe there will be mergers at some point after the transfers as well. That remains to be seen. So while it isn't as popular it still has a community and should be stable enough to keep going. Now whether it can draw in others remains to be seen but that will fall upon the developers and their progress.

May want to take another's advice and wait for 1.3 as the transfers will already be implemented and folks settled on their new servers. Or just roll on one of the more heavier populated servers since many of those ranked 'Standard' will be destination points and roll from there. A one month investment isn't much.

  11. And in contradiction to the OP's linked article here is one stating how empty a lot of the servers are:

    http://www.shacknews.com/article/73961/report-average-old-republic-server-has-less-than-350-players

Report: Average Old Republic server has less than 350 players online

by Andrew Yoon, May 24, 2012 12:00pm PDT

Related Topics – Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare, Electronic Arts, PC, MMO, Star Wars Series

Although it launched to great fanfare, it's clear that The Old Republic is struggling. Electronic Arts revealed a startling drop of 25 percent of its subscriber base since launch, and has since announced layoffs at BioWare Austin, the team behind the expensive MMO. But, how dire is the situation, really?

One dedicated fan wanted to find out exactly how many people are on The Old Republic's servers. "What is going to happen when server transfers go live," SWTOR user Scorpienne asked. "How many people are on which servers?"

According to Scorpienne's calculations, the "Total Estimated Worldwide Population of all servers" for the past two weeks is 73,693. That figure simply represents the average number of people logged in at a given time, not the total number of players that have logged in over the two week period. "It's probable that not every player is logged in all the time," the report clarifies.

The most populated server on SWTOR appears to be The Fatman, with an average of 2006 players at any given time. This "theoretical average population" is simply an average however, and Scorpienne notes that it "underestimates the peak population and overestimates the off-peak population." However, with 214 servers currently active, the less popular servers are especially empty. In fact, the average server will have only 344 players at any given time (more for RP PvP, less for PvP).

With players so spaced out, it's clear that server consolidations must happen. No wonder one fan of the game jokingly described The Old Republic as "the best single player game on the market."

  12. Sorry, but that article is obviously slanted in favor of ToR and the numbers a bit off not to mention the goal is not lose more than 25% of your paying customers. They lost more than that. To answer the author's own thoughts on development the LA Times reported it cost $200 million for them to develop the game. He weighed his estimated profits against this with no thought of the current expenses that are going on the balance sheet right now which we do not know.

He also didn't account that they sold 2 million boxes and that dropped to 1.7 subscribers and then to the mythical 1.3. I say mythical because we would have to be gullible to believe that number accurate. It was reported by Bioware to be the subs as of April which means it included all those they gave the free month subscription and it also includes all of those on the free weekend trials that they offered per their site and per their current customers to give to friends. The article says IF the customer base stays at 1 million a profit can be made and that is true. But that's the problem. It is an IF and the current trend suggests completely the opposite of this. There is really no reason an investor would believe that suddenly the bleeding will stop because they have no reason to.

So chances are no, they have not really came to the point of netting a profit. And the most alarming thing is they lost more than 25% of those initial customers and are teetering on a 50% loss in retention if they have not hit that already. That is not a success and wasn't their aim. They intended on something more than this and if you think their shareholders are thinking this has been a success you're a bit delusional.

  13. Because they have WAY too many servers and the population is way too spread out.

Partly true but that can't be the total reason since there are servers that were Full, Very Heavy and Heavy but they are now just Standard or Light. These servers had no population issue. The simple fact is they are losing subs on many servers and only a handful have a really healthy population. I really began to realize this the last few days when I just sat and waiting for a warzone to pop. My server use to be one of those Full or Very Heavy. Not anymore.

So while the servers need to be cut down they still need to find out WHY they are losing people on all servers and I assume that is what the OP is trying to delve at.

  14. Wouldn't bother me. I am all for story but if you have done the quests already chances are you are not going to always sit there and listen to it again. How many times do you want to hear that little pig race thing squeaking on Coruscant? I have a number of alts and all I do is space bar through the quests that I have already done multiple times. Only on class quests do I stop to listen.
  15. One of the high points of SWTOR is the active , vibrant and realistic environment they have created.

I really feel like part of a living world

My Personal Favorite is the Jedi Temple ! that place is amazing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3Rrk6lgi24&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLEE54DB81D99AD08B

Whats your favorite area in the game?:rak_02:

First I have to disagree...heavily. The worlds are no where near realistic and vibrant. They are very static, no light or day cycle, few npc's that actually do much of anything, mobs that stand still or seem to be pacing two steps left then two steps right. It is one of the negatives that I have seen posted in various spots so not sure why you think it's the best thing about it...

In any case, setting wise I always like frozen, snow covered places so I guess Hoth would be my favorite for the most part. But honestly none of them are overly appealing due to their static nature.

  16. Such a great game that Blizzard felt compelled to give out 1 200 000 copies of the game free... :p;)

Umm...you do know the 6.3 million that they sold did NOT include the 1.2 million they gave away to those who took the 12 month subscription to WoW. So that 1.2 million means little to nothing. Sorry, but that 6.3 is pretty darn impressive even if I am not one of them.

In any case, just think of the layoffs as restructuring. Is it good or bad for the game? Honestly, only time will tell. It's a critical move at a critical juncture so there really is no way of knowing presently. Question becomes does it slow the progress any even just slightly because many folks are on the edge and won't wait any longer for some changes.

  17. Frankly, I don't see how maintaining 1.3 million regular paying subscribers (i.e., they're signed up for a recurring subscription plan) making it the second most popular MMO on the market is "flopping around like a fish out of water".

You do know that the 1.3 number was inflated, right? While it was reported during the quarter reports it was stated that the number was as of the end of April which means quite a bit of that were customers who received the free monthly period and it also counted the weekend trials. So 1.3 'paying' customers is not correct essentially.

I guess they can say it flopping like a fish out of water (interesting metaphor he chose there though, heh) because of the investment into the game. When you compare how much money they rolled into it which if I recall is more than any MMO in history (not sure on that) then look at it's current status then yes, it is flopping a bit. When you lose nearly or more than half a million subscribers this early then there are some issues and red flags. No if's, and's or but's about it.

  18. WoW came onto the scene when people were kinda tired of available MMO, SWG was definitely dead, EQ wasn't all that exciting anymore. WoW wasn't very good at launch, but it was just good enough, to be better than the competition, and they grew from there.

ToR's release timing was ALMOST as good as WoW. people were mostly getting tired of WoW after so many years. there were also a bunch of fairly polished MMOs (rift, for example) that just never really got traction.

however, this isn't 2005, and game consumers (that would be us) have different expectations.

it's not a matter of patience, but expectation.

when you go buy a car, would you pay market price on a luxury car, that didn't have luxury items, and told you to just be patient, it's coming?

no, you would walk off the lot, and go to the next dealership that sold luxury cars that ACTUALLY had luxury features.

what you're describing (and in truth, much of what this forum is exhibiting) is un-reasonable appeasement due to loyalty to a marquee. It's like those FIAT/Alpha Romeo guys, they all know the car is crap, but they are still loyal to it.

Very well said. I would agree that gamers in MMO's need to be paitient...to an extent. When I see folks getting upset and quitting one after a month due to something lacking that is a time they should have been paitient. I always say with a MMO you have to wait and see how their development team attacks issues and things lacking before you can truly grade them.

It's been six months...that isn't a lack of patience at this point. Look at the situation currently. We're getting dungeon finder in the next big patch. It's going to be over six months that something as elementary in todays MMO's is going to be added? That's a bit absurd. How long did it take for high rez textures? How long are those on low pop servers are having wait for transfers (which only hides the problem. Mergers would have served better). I had my character have his class quest rolled back after 1.2 completely erasing all my progress on Corelia to point A all over again. Really? How does someone make that rookie mistake and then doesn't fix it?

So no, six months is more than enough time so I can't hold nothing against any who have been paying all this time and not satisfied. One month...I could agree on patience and then 2-3 months. But not six. That's a stretch.

  19. They answered you and honestly they are correct but don't hesitate to roll Republic on LA. We need more peeps over there like it's no one's business. Empire is definitely bigger so will probably grant you more opportunity as per logically math but Republic isn't bad...just small.
  20. Well I for one am sick of this game. How dare Bioware release their first MMORPG as anything but perfect. I too shall be leaving based on the assumption that my opinion is the only opinion about how this game should be, and how dare they not be able to fix all mistakes in a much lesser time than what is humanly possible in conjunction with their limited resource and capabilities. For shame BW, for shame.

And how dare Bioware invest so many millions in this game and not have fundamental tools that are basic in today's MMO.

I mean...that is what 'perfect' is right? Having basic tools?

How dare Bioware impliment a patch that rolls my class quests that I already completed back to the beginning of the chain! I mean after all it happens often in MMO's...

Wait...I've never had it happen in any of the several MMO's I played before

How dare Bioware impliment a patch that fixes errors and bugs and then it leads to other customers suddenly getting dc'd left and right and hung on a loading screen...

Wait..that's good customer service isn't it? I mean especially when you turn around and act like it's on the user's end despite the numerous of individuals suddenly having the same issue at the same time?

In other words your whole post is silly. An argument can be made in the other direction. If people put money, their investment in something then yes, they have a right to feel entitled. They have a right to expect more out of their investment. They have a right to voice their opinion and thoughts. Unless you are going to pay for them sit down and leave them be since they are the only one's I have seen in these forums even bothering giving any suggestions on improving the game. But folks like you and the OP do nothing but try and stroke Bio's ego with nothing substantial to follow it up with. You're doing more harm than the so called 'haters' by not expecting and wanting more of your product and investment.
