  1. Yeah, I'm quite surprised that people still bring up the rating from those websites. Only the professional ratings are worth anything. The public ratings for major games are 99% hugely flawed. Competitors and even the company who made the game many times use second hand gamers to encourage others to vote down or up on a game. It has been revealed over and over again where companies have encouraged their community to go vote their game up. Seems stupid, but many people will base their decision to buy or not to buy a game on those same ratings.

It's kind of like on Rotten Tomatoes (Movie rating website) the professional review is 9/10 while the public view is something like 5/10 with those guys making idiotic comments about a drama not having enough action or guns. You just can't trust them.

I don't share the OPs same views, maybe MMOs aren't for him though. The game will transform over the coming years a whole lot. This is really just the rough draft for what they want to eventually become. I'm sure even 8 months from now, it will have a ton of changes for the better, and some possibly for the worst for others. The game developer tries to please the majority, not a small minority who wants specific things to their liking. Maybe there's some other game for you OP. I know my operative's combat is the least bit boring.

  2. I will never understand the sentiment in this community against basic tools or UI improvements. It's almost like some people think it's going to level the playing field between the more casual, and the more hardcore players. That somehow hardcore players "cheat" with these tools and that's the reason for their success.

    It's not.

Ehhh the hardcore player has become angry...... oh noes.

  3. Hate to bring up another game to make a point. In Wow during alpha or beta, can't remember which one, we could communicate limitedly. It was horrible and they quickly axed it. Imagine 5 people on each faction in a warzone going back and forth the entire time with abusive comments. It would end up getting alot of people mutes and evetually a possible ban and it's something they can avoid if they don't let it happen in the first place. I know I would rage if a republic level 50 kept killing my level 25.... imagine the words that would come out of that for some people.

It's just never a good idea to allow this. It may seem harmless, but alot of people take it very seriously and they very much hate the other side. I'd rather not look at crap talking for hours at a time.

  4. Quite a informative and thought out post. I commend you! You're right though, many times they are stuck out in the corner of a map where there is literally no reason to ever go. Without a guide, it would be very difficult to find all datacrons just by doing missions.

On Hutta (Imperial Agent and Bounty Hunter starting world) there's one datacron in a heroic area, just on the other side of the grate that you can see if just normally killing the groups. You can get to it very easily by backtracking a bit and turning to head down the other tunnel. I think that's how they should all be, in an area where you would normally do missions. Not just limited to tops of moutains or in the corner of maps where you have no need to go.

  5. I believe a meter is a huge benefit to all. Of course you will have the kid who links the meter after every boss fight, that's just something we have to live with in a game like this. It isn't like anyone should really care unless he spams it constantly, I personally think the person can do what they want if they're proud of themselves.

After a heroic 4 yesterday, I realized how nice it would be. We would CC and start the fight, CC would be broken with an AOE about 5 seconds into the fight. Some tard who hit the same rotation regardless of a CCed mob a few meters away. As we kept moving along while getting killed occasionally he started attacking things that the tank wasn't attacking, atleast it seemed that way because he was taking as much damage while the other melee wasn't. I couldn't prove any of it though! I could only make accusations because it was just my word against his word! He could claim that he didn't AOE and I couldn't prove he did with a log :(. After 4 tries on the final boss, he left, we got in someone 3 levels lower and we downed it first time very easily.

Just saying that combat log is a needed. Who really cares if someone in the group is spamming their top DPS? It doesn't hurt me at all, I want them to be successful! If his incentive to put out good DPS is to show off, then good for him. As long as he doesn't skimp on his CC and damage reduction abilities to get there, then I'm fine!

  6. My healer is 36 so far. I have no problem leveling solo with him. Not sure how everyone is having such a hard time grasping it. I use kaliyo to take damage while I attack what she is targeting so I don't pull.

On mini bosses I will cc the boss alot and heal my companion so she doesnt die. It's seriously very easy. I believe alot of people are trying to get hack and slash into the fight like a pure DPS would, which doesn't make sense. YOU HAVE to use your abilities.

  7. This really only applies to classes with companion tanks. If a group of mobs are guarding the glowly mission item I will normally send my companion in while I click the item, then I take care of the mobs. It saves me from the guy waiting for me to pull so he can steal the item.

It will get better a few weeks from now when there are less people on each world.

  8. Yeah this is beyond annoying. I guess it could be because of their staffing hours... I have no idea. I hope their weekly matenance isn't at this same time.

I'm assuming they chose that time just because people from midnight release would be playing in the early morning and they have to fix and change things before they get on.

  9. Guys, if I can reroll on a lower populated server after hitting level 35, then anyone can. I bit the bullet. Eventually I will play my 35 again but I realized quickly that I was wasting more time in ques than I would if I just switched servers and leveled back up to 35. It was a simple solution to a ongoing problem. I know some of you spent 16 hours per day for the last week getting to your current level, it sucks but that's life and ques are a problem nearly everyone has, not just a few.
  10. There were many severs in Wow that maintained constant ques for a very long time. This is expected during a release. If they release too many servers then there will be alot of dead servers come a few months from now, which is much worse than having to wait in a que for a few weeks.
  11. My turn to twoll:

Guys, I have been running at this red force field for 3 1/2 hours now. It won't let me in, I even tried to shoot at it. I couldn't find a way around, halp.

No really though, even in all the betas I never encountered the OPs problem. I think it's on his end.

  12. I can understand being an IT person not wanting to flood the gates. My problem is they had no clue of how to launch when they had exact numbers before going in. Do the math, the number of servers to the number of people. What they thought that maybe we would not all try to log in. People took off from work rearranged schedules. It was nice being excited about a game to come.

If they would have explained ahead of time what they needed to do and implemented correctly I would have no problem, but for people who have just pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago to receive e-mail then I have a problem because that is not what I was told by swtor. I know for a fact that happened becuase I bought for my son who watch me play beta and asked for it. I also have a friend who pre-ordered day one and did not receive e-mail. Ironic he is the one talked me into trying out.

I played the beta and they knew how many were online then. To launch the first day and all servers full is a problem. I do not want to play a game that I will continually have to be in queque to log in or crashing. We are just the pre-order people, what about the people when it hit the stores? They have not finished July pre-orders.

They made a great game but implemented wrong. Project manager should rethink and learn from this mistake. I hope they are buying servers as we speak.

Real gamers are very competitive and you just put a bunch of fans at a disadvantage, for no other reason than poor implementation.

This is frustration talking because common sense went out the door.

I don't understand why anyone with a serious job would use one of their 15-30 days per year of paid vacation/leave time to play a early release that may not even come for several more days. Seems alot of people assumed they would get lucky and be in on the first day. Maybe it's just me though. If the person works at Burger King or something, it's obviously a bit different.

  13. My only issue here is people wanna play with thier friends... this is an MMO, meant to be played with other people.. preferably people you know, or like.

This system has completely ruined the nature of the game. Solo wolfs will not care, they are busy power lvl'n so they can spam general chat in a week because they have skipped over the fun. But those who wanna play this game with friends or guildmates has been thrown out the window with this EGA.

I dont care when I get in, and im not saying a staggered launch is a bad idea..There are certainly a lot of pros to doing this. But maybe, just maybe they should have concidered the cons as well and planned better.

So, your friends won't wait for you? They won't even reroll with you, once you get in? They seem like quality friends. Maybe if you all preordered at the same time, it would be different. You seem to think BW somehow knows who you're friends with, oblivious much? Don't mention that they could use your friends list either, thousands of people who preordered at the beginning have added people who preordered just now so that wouldn't make very much sense.

    Use logic.

  14. Allowing waiting customers in per their own 8 hour job time slot is not an agreeable situation to those that do not share the same narrow time slot of EST, or CST, or MST, or PST.

Allowing only 5 waves in per day while the devs are 'in the office'?

Are there other dev teams covering the other 16 hours of the day to let other waves in?

No...? BW spends...what...? 300 mill on a game and they only have 1 team to allow waves in???

    Seriously?

Derp derp. Someone seems to be ignoring all logic. Didn't read those Dev posts, huh?

  15. Well technically, by definition, you were complaining. Regardless, no I didn't have my hype crushed. I actually expected to play on the 17th or onward. Too many people assumed they were some of the first to pre order and that they would be in the first few waves, sadly they were mistaken and let down because their expectations were not realistic. I knew 4 friends who preordered within a few hours of it coming out, I can only assume there were many others who did the same thing, so even a few weeks could make a huge difference.

I'm just assuming that they're sending waves out by who ordered first.

  16. I'm intrigued to see some statistics on exactly when the decline for subscriptions normally happens. I know the OP mentioned 6 months, but i figured it was just a generalization.

I think this game will be the second most successful MMO in the short term. You can't expect this to skyrocket to WOW numbers of course, it takes many years for that to happen. I also think in the short term it will surpass the other successful MMOs currently out though. It has alot of replay value with all the different class combinations, faction stories, and light/dark choices.
