  1. Brilliant deduction, Sherlock! I'm sure Scotland Yard will be phoning you up to employ your services before you know it. ;)

I have, in fact, not changed my opinion at all. Nor dd I try very hard to look like I earnestly believed what I wrote. After all, by announcing this to the world I make this a more difficult scheme to take advantage of, myself.

A simple change to the UI improves the player experience. I just want to raise visibility of the issue until it gets done, because it is an annoyance that allows unethical people to take advantage of others. I do not like it. I have always gone on the offensive in situations like this, and I imagine I always will.

But there is more to this plot that I will now share!

It is true that this would never happen to the same person twice, and it will not happen to me again. However, if I can take a few minutes to make the world (or in my case, the server) a better place, than I will certainly do such a thing.

So on my server, I have created a couple of 'toons who list all of the commonly purchased bulk items at 9,999,999 credits, so that when spamming the sort column, it is clear which price is highest and which is not. As most of these bulk items sell for 2k or less each, it's a fairly effective technique.

However, to my surprise, someone purchased one of my items. It was SUCH a surprise that I didn't think to carefully examine my email for purchase notifications in the slew of unsold auction item messages I got so that I could discover the name of the poor soul and return what credits I could. I just noticed that I was suddenly 9.5 million credits rich on this fresh 'toon.

"However," I think, "This is ok! After all, the purchase was a mistake, and I never intended for anyone to buy the item, so I will appeal to CSR to either give me the name of the purchaser or refund the credits to them directly. And because most people on this planet are happy to perform a simple kindness, I am sure it will end well."

But my optimism was misplaced. My first attempt, they closed my ticket, claiming to not understand what I was asking. The second ticket I was clearer. The CSR responded that they could not interfere in GTN sales, and that they are not allowed to give over account information of any of the players. Understandable if I am the wronged party looking for revenge, but I am attempting to give over credits to someone who made an accidental purchase.

This strikes me now as either one of these absurd cases of zero tolerance enforced upon CSRs, or else having the bad luck to get a CSR who enjoys a healthy dose of shadenfreude.

I opened a new ticket pointing out that the account information could not be considered a violation of privacy, since the game itself sends notification of purchases, and if they cannot give me a name, could they perhaps restore the notification of the purchase to my mail box?

The response to this one boiled down to "There are a lot of things we do not have the ability to do yet, but thank you for your interest in our game! Goodbye!"

Well, now I am completely dismayed. Due to an unfortunate example of why prices are always right justified, my efforts to do a good deed, and CSRs either being utterly without power (and I sincerely hope this is the case), without common sense, or being prone to spitefulness, someone is out 10 million credits.

I am hoping that I have been unlucky in my CSRs. I am hoping that another might see this, take pity on this player, and let me restore his credits to him. I am hoping that someone at Bioware with common sense sees that a small change to a format string will save some players a lot of grief. In the scale of changes that might be made to a game such as this one, a format string is trivial.

I am far from clueless or dumb. I am, however, beset by real life distractions, and I love this game because I can enjoy the community as I sit in the fleet, crew skilling, while helping my kids with their homework. I know that others have similar distractions, and have fallen prey to this rather ingenious scheme. I know it because otherwise, why would someone have purchased my ridiculously priced item? Why would one or two players on my server spend all the time they spend examining prices so that they can price their items at just under lowest market price x 1000?

It is fine to say "dumb people are dumb." But it is malicious to say that these people should suffer the loss of millions of credits from a moment of inattention while standing around in the fleet - and this is the key - when this could be prevented by listing prices according to user interface standards followed all over the world.

I know that a lot of people who hang out in forums such as this one get a kick out of telling others they are morons. Lay it on me - I am successful enough in life that I am immune to such pettiness. But I am happy to spend some energy trying to right a wrong that is so easily corrected, and I know that most other people would do the same.

And to everyone who enjoys these ill-gotten gains and are annoyed by my efforts - well - I can't bring myself to feel too badly for you.

So those of you who are sicked by such tactics - by all means, open bug reports. Raise visibility. We are not asking for a watch dog on the GTN. We are not asking for a human to suddenly step in and pass judgment on ill-advised GTN purchases. We are asking for prices to be right justified and printed with consistency.

    Thanks for reading!

my earlier post aside, I'm actually inclined to believe you.

it dawned on me after I posted my outrage , that you're so upset with the practice that you might actually be trying to make the devs and players aware (more aware?) of the right-justified problem.

after reading your post above I see a bright mind at work and offer my apology for not catching on sooner - :o

well played Sir and good luck !

  2. Pretty much all there in the title. I googled and couldn't find anything specific. I'm doing a PVE gunslinger and am wondering if taking Sharp Aim (10%/20% armor penetration for aimed shot) is going to help me at all or just be a wasted skill.

most if not all 'sharpshooter' gunslingers will take the Sharp Aim upgrade. for weak mobs it won't really mater however, as you get to higher levels you'll find it a valuable (necessary) perk for aimed shot.

    hope this helps - :)

  3. Too me the controls are too sensitive and completely whacky, half the time I'm just trying to steer and find my target before I can even shoot people. So most of the time I am just flying around in circles like a *******. :(

turn down the sensitivity on your mouse. makes a huge difference.

to learn more on how to target and shoot check out Scrab's youtube GSF vids...

    Scrab's GSF channel

also, check out Drakkolich's educational stream post (and stream too of course).

both very good pilots and very helpful for new players.

    best of luck

(in before "the necro is strong with this one" posts - )

  4. Welcome back Fesst Dizben !!! and thank you for your service in the CT National Guard ;)

a lot of things have changed but the game is still a blast to play.

if you have a chance check out the Galactic Star Fighter forum and give GSF a try in game. the learning curve for GSF can be a bit tough but is worth the effort imo. (we die hard GSF'ers are always looking for new players to fly with).

no mater what server yer on there will be some very dedicated pilots so check it out :p

hope to see you and your brother in game and my the force be with you !

ps: love the enthusiasm bro, take care :D

  5. windows 8 and 8.1 run the game just fine. make sure you download and install DirectX 2010 redist and c++ 2010 as well from the microsoft website. both are needed to run the game without problems.

    DirectX

    and

    c++ 2010

also, make sure that all the hardware drivers are up to date. as you're talking a new computer the drivers should all be in good shape however, win 8 had a lot of problems with older (non win 8) drivers. tho most of the problems center around upgrading the OS from older versions and just needing to upgrade the drivers to win 8 as well.

    good luck

  6. You can still be mobile as a Gunslinger: skill up in the far right tree. There will still be 1 or 2 abilities you have to use in cover, but most of your core rotation can be used while running about.

actually, at high levels the main abilities (highest damage and damage boosts) requires you to be in cover. however, a gunslinger using the 'sharpshooter' skill tree is highly mobile.

when leaving cover you get a movement (speed) boost as well as major defensive boosts too. trick shot, speed shot, leg shot (a great slow), plus all of the grenades are abilities you can use out of cover and are a lot of fun as well. (dirty kick and blaster whip are the only melee attacks but are very useful either in or out of cover).

take the time to visit the class forums. great info on gear, ability rotations and how best to play the class.

while Sentinels are my personal favorite, my gunslinger is a blast to play. I can spend as much time out of cover as in cover depending on the situation.

basically a gunslinger is a heavily shielded mobile artillery platform, and can drop some awesome damage and stuns on single targets or mobs of bad guys.

smuggler story?... get rich, get the girl (or guy) and look like a hero while you're doing it (Han Solo - :p)

hope this helps and welcome to the game - :)

edit: just reread your post and if 'slash and move' plus 'highly mobile' is your thing then take a close look at Sentinels. for PvE leveling I'd say go Watchman skill tree. a Sent is designed to be the most mobile class and very heavy on the slash part. (plus ya get 2 light sabers... whats not to like? - :D) Best of Luck !

  7. I fail to understand your need to be so insulting. perhaps that says more about you than anything I wrote.

I happened to save what I wrote and while it's admittedly not up to the writing standards I try to maintain it was not as bad as you've characterized.

I've written many articles over the years and made a decent living from it. an experienced writer knows constructive criticism would have been far more useful.

I'll not respond to this thread again so feel free to flame away.

  8. tldr;

serious, i'm a ****** writer and that is really tough to read, way too conversational.

thank you for your input. very helpful. feel free to quote and edit till it meets your ****** writing standards.

or better yet add some tips for GSF players.

    thx again.

  9. When flying solo que Imp side the Pub's I have to respect are No-Swap, Willie, Myx'on, and Debelicious.

as I fly mostly pub side it's their evil alts that I see most often.

fear? no. though when I first started I found myself thinking 'damn, these guys again' more than once. now I see them and it's, 'nice, should be a good match' :)

pilots I would add... (apologies in advance, can't remember the exact spellings)... Cassandra, Alliemera, Magnatard (tho haven't seen him in a while), and yes, SithAce as well :p

there are many good pilots on harbinger and wish I could remember all their names, tho I've noticed a lot of new names and have no idea if these are just alts or new players.

  10. But the main problem is, that most of the inexperienced players keep dancing in the middle of the map, trying to kill the strikes dancing with them. Or they are flying towards a sat node in a straight line with a pressed "s"-key, aiming at the defense turret, not aware that a sniper sits right on top of the node.....BOOM.

So I say it again: Focus them, Make it your personal goal for the match. Fly around the main enemy meat in a huge circle, hitting the gs from behind. They will guard each other and they will have wingmen who protect them. You will die a lot. But you will also kill alot of 'em. And that satisfying feeling will keep you going. And above that killing a GS is always a contribution for your team.

    this ^^

as many have pointed out, if you allow a GS to just sit there and rack up 15 kills then you really have no room to complain.

there are many strategies for dealing with gunships. no strategy will work every time or in every situation. but as someone who only pugs I find killing gunships very satisfying.

practice is the key and focus GS's and keep those kill counts down :)

  11. I had no reason to doubt you but thought perhaps it was just on your server until I saw it last night on harbinger.

what was weird was for the first match the opposing team all had 4 or 5 ships in their queue but no one was flying or fighting, and many times they would just fly into the nearest asteroid rather than participate in the match.

the next 5 or so matches all had 2 or 3 ship line ups.

also, I'd never seen any of the pilots names before (must of rolled a bunch of alts to farm the gsf conquest points).

6 of the 7 matches I played were like this. I spent a good part of these matches just sitting still and watching the map trying to figure out what was going on. finally I just quit mid match and re-queued hoping for real players but it was not to be.

the suggestions you made sound good and will hopefully help to prevent this from happening over and over again.

the only possible upside is maybe some of the people farming GSF Conquest points will find they like flying and will become regulars.

anyway, this needs to be addressed.

this kind of point farming could kill GSF (why bother flying if no ones going to compete?).

I'll by flying again today and really hope this point farming doesn't continue for too long.

  12. I forget which patch had the EMP balance fix (too lazy to look it up) along with the other GSF balance fixes. but if memory serves (and it my not :)) the buff to emp was meant to be 4000m and only maxed out at 4500 with the ability upgrade and was intended to counter seeker mines.

(as you and many others have pointed out the tool tips are just wrong).

after the balance patch emp was a great counter to mines and drones however, it does seem to have been nerfed recently (mines and drones that I thought were within the field over the last few days turned out not to be. did I miss-calculate?... are bombers just being more careful with placement?... or is this a result of what you're talking about?).

I can't argue with you findings V' and if the 'field value' has changed and that value really does affect us in game (I'm not saying it doesn't, I really don't know either way) then please post in the Bug Report forum or submit a bug report ticket in game, pretty sure that's the only way this issue will get noticed.

also, you might consider sending Tait or eric a PM asking them to double check with the GSF team if there was an unintended bug or change introduced with one of the recent patches.

(I'll guess they get tons of PM's every week but, you never know).

the Novadive is my goto ship when the Fett hits the Shan and if I don't have a 'working as advertised' EMP then how do I continue to destroy bomber balls with such EMP flair and style? - :p

    best of luck

  13. Not sure if serious or maybe I misread what you're saying...

You find 168 AR gear for a piece of content that requires 148 AR gear... "low gear"?

I understand the confusion, sry 'bout that.

I consider my still being in 168's 'low gear'. I didn't realize the FP was 148 so my statement was made out of ignorance.

now I know why I felt like I could 2 man that FP - :p

hope that clears things up - cheers!

  14. Difficulty - Disappointed it was so easy (like stated in another thread, the final boss(es) didn't even have actual mechanics)

All in all, it was a fun FP to run through. I definitely see myself running through it at least a few more times, and I am really excited to learn more about 3.0.

Final Verdict: 8/10 - A fun FP, but a little too easy for my tastes.

the difficulty question is something I have to agree with. the combat was just a bit too easy.

my sent is in full 168's and even with that low gear lvl I was never in any real danger of dieing. still, the combat is very fast paced and really helps to make it more exciting.

the devs can re-balance the combat mechanics if needed without much trouble so we'll see what happens.

8/10 ?? not a bad review by any stretch and sounds about right to me, (maybe 9/10 but we quibble :) ).

  15. 1 - at the first boss I got locked out and the Rakata boss kept running out of the combat zone to attack me. finally he ran so far out that the fight reset. (which was good, I got to re-enter the combat zone. however, still seems like it may be a bug).

(boss would run out of the entrance that was at that point blocked, seemed to squeeze through the opening on the left side of blocked entrance. (left side when facing entrance from outside of combat zone).

2 - at end of FP you're told to exit via the shuttle that's near by. however, there is no way to interact with exit shuttle.

used 'exit' option on mini map and exited with no problem.

overall a fun FP and hope to see more of them - thx

  16. just finished Rakata and have to say it's a very strange and beautiful world you've created. really like the faster pace you've added to combat both with Manaan and Rakata.

Kudos to the art design crew. the environment is really well done.

    in short, well done Devs!

(couple of possible bugs I noticed, will post in bug reports)

  17. My marauder has the talent Phantom, which ups the duration of Force Camouflage. When I use this skill, the additional duration does not seem to affect the companion used as well, making the talent (potentially) a waste of points, if you don't time your sneaking just right.

I did not find any other mention of this issue after a quick search, all other bug posts were about stealth appearance and functionality.

just rolled a Mara last night so am not able to confirm what your seeing. however, comps no longer draw aggro. as long as you get past without triggering any mobs your comp will too.

just fyi, the Phantom talent for sents works fine. never seen a prob. will keep an eye open as I lvl the marauder.

    hope this helps

  18. if you're enjoying the losses as much as the wins you know your having fun :p

I've never played on JC but harbinger and TEH have great pub pilots and teamwork is the norm rather than the exception. is every match like that? of course not, but you'll see good team play from both factions every day.

btw, if in a scout (Nova) always try to chase gunships. they rack up the highest kill count per match and scouts are built to counter them. (just my 2 credits).

keep calling out instructions to the team, it's a great way to help new pilots learn.

keep having fun and keep flying :)

  19. Hello all, I leveled my Jedi Knight to 20 last night and today I tried to play him. However I couldn't because I am being told that I need to validate my account or something. I have no idea how to do this. It tells me to put an email address in, so I put my email address in, the one I use for this website and the one that is connected to my account. I check my email, nothing. I checked the forums and asked some people and I still can't seem to figure this out. I heard some people say try to make another email and connect it to your account. I just really want to play my Jedi Knight haha, would love to get through this hassle and never have to go through it again. Can anybody help?

Edit: there was an old bug that would cause an unneeded request to validate an account or email address. didn't happen often but the email to validate would never show up.

if this is what your seeing then you'll need to call CS (link to number below) and have them fix this for you.

double check your account information. make sure it's correct.

(accounts page, 'personal info' is where your email address can be changed if needed).

if all else fails call customer support. I'm sure they can help sort this out.

    hope this helps, good luck
