  1. I LOL at the fanboys who act like subs matter 6 weeks into the game. Even if the game had 200k subs, what would it matter? The statistic just implies its a big thing right now, and certainly has a lot of room to grow or decline. Just play the game, or don't and shut up about subs.

See, tossing out the 'fanboy' thing marks you as a troll or a 'hater'.

And the 'Haters' (As opposed to those with valid criticism of the game) said this game was dead on launch, and it would be F2P within a few months. Blah blah blah.

These numbers sort of disprove that initiall statement that no one was re-upping. 1.7 million is plenty strong, especially if the # is going up, as was stated in the Market Call.

It's also the first hard #s that we've seen. So it's bound to cause discussion.

/Only posting becasue I'm @ work, and cant play. :D

  2. People had to either enter a cc number OR A TIME CARD to activate those accounts in December. People who left BUT STILL HAVE TIME BECAUSE THEY HAD TO USE A TIME CARD TO ACTIVATE THEIR ACCOUNT are STILL COUNTED AS "ACTIVE SUBS".

Now, was that plain enough for you?

A time card? Yes. Becasue there is active time on the account.

Entered CC info? Nope. All you had to do was cancell before the 30 days and you would not be billed. Standard practice.

I am an active sub, as I bought a 60 day card. I will be an active sub untill that time runs out, or I buy another card. (I'll be buying my card on Wednesday, when I get paid.)

  3. NO, it's 2 million subs and lowering.

And I can tell you havent read any of the articles on the subject at all.

1.7 million subs is a hard number.

He stated that the # was rising.

2 million is the sales figure.

Subbed is anyone who's free month isnt up, or has already renewed. With most of them being paid players at this point.

This is an investors call. They might shade things thier way, or slant the interpretation of the #s, but the #s aren't allowed to be false by law.

85% retention after a month an a half is good #s. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

The game has issues. No one is saying it doesn't. But alot of people are having fun playing it, and it shows.

The real #s to watch will be the next quarterly report. If 5 months in, they are over 1.5 million? I'll be very happy. If they crawl up to 2 million? I'll be very happy and surprised.

  4. 85% would be great for an Indy game that releases with 15-25k subs. It's not great for the most Hyped/Advertised/Expensive game in mmo history.

I cant say that I've noticed any adds for SWTOR anywhere. Mind you, I dont watch tv...

And again I disagree with you entirely. 1.7 million subs and rising (Which is what was said) is entirely respectable, and significantly better than many of the naysayers and doom-cryers on the forums have been saying.

Gen Discussion Forums = vocal minority. Only reason I post is I'm stuck at work. Otherwise, I'd be playing, not posting.

  5. As I said to my clannies, personally for me, the #s are better than expected. I was expecting 1-1.5 mil subs from the conversations that I've had with my MMO playing friends. So seeing the 1.7 million number was significantly higher than I expected.

However, the numbers that will be really telling for me are the march and april #s.

That being said, the massive drop that the haters were predicting on the forums does not seem to have happened. And I'm glad. I want this game to succed, and be around and viable for a long time.

  6. So I am paying for BETA? Well I won't be paying again. Mark my words.

    Bye!

    Just to reiterate:

Some additional TOR-related statistics and Q&A from today's EA earnings call: "2,000,000+ copies sold, 40% sold through Origin; 1,700,000+ active subscribers, 1 million concurrent." The company also notes that "Active subscribers means anyone paying OR in their trial period. MOST of those 1.7m are paying at this point.

  7. Lifted from the end of the article:

  8. Releasing a patch to fix errors where people are getting lag, problems loading, game freezing up, etc. is not "doing an update". This isn't weekly maintenance to fix minor bugs or updated content. When there is problem that affects the ability of people to access and play the game, they are going to fix that as soon as possible, not sit around and wait a week to fix it with the next weekly maintenance.

    This.

These emergency patches will even out after a few months I would imagine.

  9. Even as a supporter of the game, I'm pleasantly surprised by those sub numbers. I was expecting 1- 1.25 million subs. Healthy number and growing, which is going, and sort of goes with what I've been hearing.

The game does have issues, but Bioware seems to be making progress on them.

I'm currently taking a few days break from the game to play WoT so I dont burn out. (Which is what I tend to do. I burnt out on WoT, a month and change playing SWTOR, and now back to Tanks for a bit.)

  10. Downtime is a fact when playing MMOs.

Lack of communication is not however. From my POV this team is one of the most uncommunicative, least customer focused I have ever seen in an MMO. The game itself is fine. There are bugs but for the most part I enjoy it. What I struggle with is the effort put forth on support items like CS, like building community, like the way the forums are designed and managed, how maintenance is handled, etc. They seemed to have spent so much time and effort on the game itself they forgot about planning for how they were going to support it.

Except there was no lack of communication. The warning was posted well over 6 hours before the downtime.

    Dev tracker. Read it.

  11. Cool story bro.

Many people have no issues playing the game, myself included. I have never had a singled crash with this game. Not saying it is bug free by any means, but its a relatively stable game in general.

That being said, posting CS issues in gen discussion is probably just going to get locked, especially with an inflammatory thread title that makes you look like a paid shill rather than a legit customer.

  12. Dear Sir,

I am writing to you in response to your complaint about our product, the C2-N2 droid. We regret that you are experiencing difficulties with this award winning, state of the art household droid.

Sadly, we have to inform you, that the C2-N2 droid, and its Imperial counterpart, the 2V-R8 autonomous ship maintenance unit, are not rated for combat at this time.

Several regrettable incidents, including the loss of a full squad of SIS operatives (apparently triggered by a malfunctioning speech unit voicing its congratulations to the undercover team during a deep cover infiltration mission), have lead the Republic Technical Support Corps to revoke the combat certification from these units and forced us to replace the 'advanced weapon and martial training ROM' from the programming of the unit.

These facts have been clearly disclosed to customers at time of sale, as well as in the programmatic introductory conversation program voiced upon owner transfer.

For this reason, we cannot take responsibility for your problems.

We are however pleased to announce that future updates to the unit's artificial intelligence core will dramatically increase the efficiency of it's emergency medical protocol features - and add some other, more questionable features.

The C2 Droid Corporation is also pleased to announce that we have started investigations into a new line of droid casings and cores, aimed at improving the efficiency of the unit's assembly and construction features. No official release date for this line of top end equipment has been determined at this point.

We thank you for your interest in our product.

C2-N2 - The only thing that crits is his voice in your earchannel!

Best Dev Post EVER. Winning and Tigerblood abound.

  13. It is most definitely an issue and the game still has a ways to go before it is a la WoW.

But let me put down my negative hat for a second. Today's updates were a GIGANTIC step in the right direction. I just can't and won't get lazy on this topic.

BioWare, good job. But you aren't out of the woods yet. I know you feel my pat on your back, but make sure you feel me breathing down your neck.

I agree with you. You don't want to get complacent, and let them slide.

But I would really like to point out that actual feedback and demonstration of the issue rather than senseless waaahh got this done.

Specifically mentioned by James Ohlen was the videos that you guys have provided. Thats what enabled them to pin down some of the issues and fix them.

So for the crusaders, I'll say well done, and keep up the good work.

To Bioware, I'll say Thanks for the fix. Now keep on top of things and keep the game improving.
