  1. My main is an Agent. Empire is interesting, because they aren't necessarily villains, just people trying to bring order to a filthy galaxy. :p

Sith is another matter, and I'm not sure what appeals to people there. They seem silly to me-- like Snidely Whiplash. Just evil for evil's sake, even when it isn't practical.

You do realize that the agent you play is just a lap dog to these sith lords who are evil for evils sake? They are your rulers that can do whatever they want without repercussions.

  2. On Nightmare Lands, the majority of players I've talked to, including those in my guild, say they're between 19-35 years old.

It's WoW all over again, people claimed all the kids where on Horde side because of Undead Rogues but Alliance always seemed to be that little more immature. Same thing here, people claim it's Empire because of Sith Pureblood Assassins with spiky emo hair, but then one day I decide to create a Jedi character and Typhon chat is filled with puerile adolescent humour, you can probably guess what I mean by that.

I realize this proves nothing, but I still find it funny.

Hello there your smugness, It must be awesome to have the amazing foresight to realize that all the immature kids would pick republic because they wanted to be Luke Skywalker, if only I had realized this :(

  3. Now, I only have experience with IA and Smuggler (but that also includes a lot of side quests that all classes will see), but the difference in opinions here could come down to faction.

On the empire side, a lot of the choices I've seen I could argue with myself for hours of which is "right" and which is "wrong." On Republic, however...there's very little moral ambiguity, you can either be a paragon of altruism and virtue or you're stabbing people in the back after helping you/murdering someone who was actually showing some willingness to be convinced to do the right thing.

Seems like the Empire got a much more mature brand of writing.

Oh, and I really hope they fix the issue with the dark side corruption option resetting every time you zone (and by extension, companion "scorpion pull" move turning back on).

It's only hard on the empire side because most of the time both choices are evil, one slightly less so but you're never given the choice to actually do the right thing.

And there's plenty of morally ambigious dialog choices for the republic - Several times it comes down to if you want to help the little guy or if you want to help the war effort against the empire, should you expose the politician that wants to ally with the sith even when it's against the law? Should I kill the mass murderer eventhough he was promised protection after helping the republic?

  4. SWG and DAoC

DAoC had item degradation so people would eventually have to replace gear. Which would drive the economy.....I wish more games did this.

Eve and SWG both had this as well, it's vital to a good economy which is why theme park mmo's are terrible in this regard.

I don't think the best stuff has to come from raids, people will still raid because it is fun! They can drop recipes and cool looking cosmetic stuff, give titles etc. there's lots of things you can give players to show off their amazing skillz at raiding.

  5. It's not just all the kids rolled Empire. Every man and his dog rolled empire

Posting just to say I am old and I rolled Republic. I do like morally grey characters. I don't want to be an outright evil douchebag just for the hell of it. not even a virtual one.

Same here, I tried an empire character because I thought it might be interesting to try to play a character that tries to better the empire instead of defecting but it's not possible to not be evil in the sith empire. But since I don't like playing evil characters I left for the republic, which was just as good seeing how overpopulated the empire side is on most servers.

  6. Yeah, I kind of agree with you. They started this crap in DA2. Dialogue choices are extra simplistic.

Sadly, it still beats most other games. I hope they plan to continually work on dialogue. I expect it to be complex -- ala kotor.

Maybe you need to replay kotor because the choices there are far worse than those in this game, the darkside choices are straightup psychotic every single time, there's no grey in that game.

And republic side has plenty of interesting choices, both choices can be seen as good several times in the game, while on the sith side both choices are often just evil, one slightly less than the other.

  7. No. Horde hasn't had an ingame PvP advantage since Classic, but the mindset has lasted since then. On top of that Tichondrius <sp> was the de facto best of the best US PvP server and it was heavily horde dominated. This is just one of those things that when the snowball starts rolling one way it is hard to stop it or change its course.

I played both Republic and Empire in beta (currently playing Republic only), but I'll say I feel that the light/dark side choices are much more interesting on the Sith side. It's very black and white on the Republic. I wish they'd make it more grey, like the Empire. However I'd imagine most people didn't know that when they bought the game. So if I was to guess it's just the "bad guy is cool" mentality.

I think there's plenty of grey in the republic, saving the lives of a few or help the war effort to stop the (evil) empire? Kill the bad guy so he can never commit such atrocities again or capture him and give him a trial?

What does the sith have? Kill him or capture him and have him tortured, yeeeah I'd say that's a choice of dark or dark, yet the game pretends one of them is a good choice.

  8. This thread is pretty hilarious. Countless posts claiming that the Empire isn't evil. I just happen to run in to a quest where it's revealed that the Empire is currently engineering a genocide. Evil? Pfffft. Don't be ridiculous. Genocide is just pragmatism at work bro.

If you want to be evil, that's cool. If you want to be a good guy in an evil organization, that's cool too. But don't delude yourself. As a whole, the empire is a vicious, destructive, amoral, unscrupulous force that will stop at nothing to get what it wants. It has no moral compunctions about anything. It kills when its useful, and it kills when it's just fun. The empire is the very definition of evil.

Yeah the lightside choices on the imp side is usually just the lesser evil, you can certainly not play a good imp as far as I could tell when I tried the agent.

  9. If someone gave me £130 million and said make a SW MMO I would have done this:

    1. Make all planets seamless, no instancing at all. If you have to queue for a mob to spawn tough luck, get over it as these things happen when a mmo is launched. The world would be totally free, you can go where ever you like, it would be just like in the film, hop on your speeder and explore.

    2. There would be a LFG facility but you would not be allowed to teleport to your flashpoint, you have to make your own way there to keep the game as realistic as possible.

    3. From level 20 - 50 on there would be plot crossovers so meeting the enemy faction will happen very often when you quest. You would be rewarded for killing enemy players and even get quests to take out their leaders. Yes ganking would happen, roll PvE if you can't cope.

    4. All towns would be protected by NPC guards but they would not respawn quickly and certainly not in HUGE numbers, towns would NOT be capturable but you could bring your entire guild and cause havok in them. The invaded faction would have to rally to expell the invaders.... If you do not like this we would have PvE servers.

    5. I would copy the UI from WOW, it works and is excellent.

    6. Priority would be given to crafting and the AH, I would copy from Rift.

    7. World events and world quests like in Rift would be on every planet to make teaming up an attractive option.

    8. Level design would be taken from WOW, love it or hate it that game has some awesome designed levels. A mix of very open terrain but with the odd choke point added for ambushes. Loads of life, small towns and HUGE Cities and the odd little outpost. No invisible barriers.

When you pay a fee to play, you need to feel you belong in the world, you need to be part of it, it's almost your second home. SWTOR feels more like a chore than a exciting adventure, it's just too linear and too boxed in for me.

If I were president I would make world peace and make sure everyone had a warm meal and only had to work as much as they wanted to.

  10. Stop comparing to WoW ffs. This game came out in 2011, where it should have learned MANY things from games that have come before it, not repeat the same mistakes made by MMO's in recent years that have widdled and died off to low populations.

It is impossible to launch a game with the content of WoW unless you want your company to go bankrupt. It's leaps and bounds better than WoW was at release and pretty much any other MMORPG out there, yes there's lots of things that needs fixing but that's to be expected in this genre of games.

Many topics in the forums are absolutely correct in their complaints but most people are still having a blast in game, bioware will improve the game as time goes.

  11. I dislike WoW a lot yet the OP is absolutely correct in that this is extremely well made in WoW and absolutely horrid in SW:ToR, it really needs to be changed for the better. I actually think WoWs animations looks absolutely ridiculously bad for the most part though so I hope that SW:ToR can keep its decent animations while still fixing this issue.

In short, love the game but this is indeed a huge deal and in need of a change/fix.

  12. It's simple logic really, you can tell from the game from the first second you step into it that bioware spent a LOT of effort on making the leveling and questing experience rewarding and fun which probably means that endgame and PvP was the areas that suffered.
  13. I am confused on why the agent is so low, because the sniper is the most insanely OP single target class in PVP right now. They easily get top kills and top DPS, beating sorcs and even AOE spamming bounty hunters, and can take out a target in 5 seconds or less with good crit. They also have a huge range,

There are a few snipers in my guild and they just chew everything up. It make me want to reroll my sorc.

Because these numbers aren't because of imbalance but because of how "cool" they are. On the Republic side there's not a huge number of troopers yet they're the same as bounty hunters, the difference is that boba fett was a bounty hunter not a trooper.

  14. AAAAAND other skills will make more than enough credits from selling stuff after being maxed. Eventually it should even surpass slicing if they do it right... Problem?:D:D:D:D

I will be maxed on cybertech when I reach max level since you don't actually need the mission skill to level the craft and then when I reach max level I can easily just drop slicing and level up underworld trading which will take what? A few days at most.

  15. Still people defending slicing? It's either a conspiracy ie. they're just trying to hide how powerful it is or they just don't understand how to use it. I'm at 500k at level 35 and I have bought 3 vehicles, given away 50k and bought gear everytime I get to a new planet. And this is all with absolutely no effort, I'm giving away all the purple/blue missions and recipes since I don't really need more money anyway and it makes my friends happy.
  16. You can maneuver the camera and your character much more efficiently with a mouse and that's just fact, and having good awareness of your surroundings is extremely important in both PvE and PvP. I can manage all binds just fine with one hand on the keyboard by smart usage of shift.

You can play however you want, I like to sit sideways with my feet up on my desk but I would certainly play better if I sat up straight.

  17. I have heard that Vanguards are "melee tanks" but, as you pointed out above, have some ranged abilities to damage/generate threat. In what way are Vanguards "melee", especially considering your primary weapon is a blaster rifle...

One of the most if not the most important ability stockstrike is melee range, but yes we can do a decent job from range as well.

  18. Since the devs have stated that their goal is to have all classes DPS specs to be within 5% of each other why do you even care? I mean sure commando might do much better right now but then they'll get nerfed or vanguard will be buffed - Play whatever you think you'll enjoy not what's the strongest right now, or you will be the one crying when the changes happen.
  19. I'd like to add another frustrating bug with the trooper - Mortar volley obviously has a minimum range and the target reticule turns grey when it is too close, but even if you click when it is blue it doesn't fire because it is too close, so you have to move it even further away.

Also what is up with the target reticule for mortar volley?! It's tiny compared to the AoE making it almost impossible to use when a mob is CC'd because there's a huge chance that mob will get hit in the AoE, I'm amazing so usually I can predict about right but this is just frustrating to be honest, FIX FIX FIX.

  20. I'll start by saying I love the game and this is probably my only major problem with it, but hey that's why you come to the forums - to complain :)

So what's up with my server saying heavy when there's barely any people on? Most of the time there's like 20-30 other people on the planet I'm on and it's extremely hard to find groups. I know I'm a bit above the leveling curve but it feels like there's still just too few people on each server, what's everyone elses opinion on this?
