  1. How many of the people that say "Im needing for my companion, I dont care that you are tanking or healing, my companion needs it just as much:mad:" are actually in a guild? Play with friends you know? Would your friends be ok with you taking a piece of gear for your companion over that they could have used? Its basically saying "My companion, an extension of me, deserves this more than you". Its incredibly greedy and if the veil of anonymity wasn't there, chance are you wouldn't be pulling these things.
  2. So why did we have really good High rez grafik on the BETA and now we have like Kidpainted armors???

Because they disabled them so our clients wouldn't blow up in fleet with another 150 people in screen jumping around??????

Seriously, there is no way that the game is downloading these textures on the fly. The amount of data being transmitted when the servers were at their capacity would have clogged even the mightiest line. It also doesn't explain why a slow connection speed would load the game about as fast as any other computer.

e- Basically its the path of least resistance, which is easier to believe? The client has problems rendering textures and other effects such as shadows, AA, etc so they turn them off. Or they have some amazing tech involving data streaming at THIS scale just to protect some IP?

  3. This is false, the remote renderer is remote from the exe as it is a spawned process.

MemoryMan.dll allows the engine and the renderer to communicate freely as if they were one process.

Posting it again since people seem to want to hijack the thread with the remote render issue! People please, the textures are horrible and no, some sort of hyper copy right technique isn't whats causing it.

  4. Thats LOD control, more or less to keep it from being too shiny.

As for forcing the engine to stop using _d.tiny.dds and use _d.dds is taking a bit of work.

For the love of god Lemon, I know you are a wizard doing these things. You've made some of the most amazing UI mods I've ever seen. You'll be remembered not as the guy that made the funniest short lived addon in an MMO, but as the guy that un****** SWTORs textures.

  5. Not true at all, but I agree that making random assertions is fun.

Dragons are real and they bring me apple pies.

Although he's wrong using an absolute term, the vast majority of MMOs have no reason to compress textures like this on their high setting. Because they believe that people are smart enough to chose the option that that suits them the best.

Right now, we have two option, bad and worst.

  6. Start the chronometer, lets see how long it takes for this one to fill up. In the meanwhile

Notice LOTRO, a game that came out in 2007!

Whats that? A character zoomed in who's armor textures dont look like a pile of mud? Surely this is impossible!

Notice Granado Espada! A korean MMO launched in 2007 as well!

Surely this is a fluke!? I mean how can these companies make character armor this crisp?

Notice Rift, an MMO from 2011. From a company that had no games under their belt yet!

SWTOR is not following the standard right now. Its textures dont look nearly as good as they could and are being held back because of client stability issues that might or might never be fixed.

  8. If you simply cannot have fun playing this game because "the textures on my character could be sharper" then don't let the door hit you on the way out.

"I seriously cant stand people that voice their legitimate complaints about an MMO that they've paid 60-130 dollars on. Maybe Im secretly trying to justify my purchase? We'll see in a few months after another MMO hits the market"

  9. No game has ever forced you to run at the "desired" setting barring physical limitations such as the GPU not being able to output DX10 or 11 effects. (correct me if Im wrong, I've never played all PC games) I think most pc developers are ok with the consumer choosing whether they prefer a more consistent frame rate or better fidelity.
