  1. I played City of Heroes for 3 years (Sept '06 - Aug '08). A couple of months after starting I founded an SG (Guild). Over that next weekend I managed to recruit a dozen or so other people to my guild. A week or so later I recruited Neo.

After burning out on WoW in August (where I had been since leaving CoH 3 years earlier) I logged back into CoH again. (I would play CoH for an evening or so ever 6-8 months, so it wasn't like I was never around).

Neo is now the GL. Most of those people who I recruited that first weekend are still there. My Guild went on without me just fine.

What were you saying about a game must have a strong raiding end game or awsome PvP to retain players?

Yeah, but the thing is, city of heroes etc was a pretty budget title, Tor couldn't survive with the same tiny community. Also, this is wow in space, its obviously made to cater to wow players, considering everything, everything, is the same, except for some class based missions/quests in each zone which everyone is hyping up like crazy, so you would want decent pvp/raid content to satisfy the target demographic.

  2. All I can say is that you and I are obviously playing a different game. In my SWTOR the missions are incredibly well written and voice-acted. WHat BW has done here is nothing short of spectacular.

You must be playing a different game then, because the only difference in quest structure is that there is a chain of story quests in each planet (zone), available only to your class alone.

It starts feeling like a grind tattoonie (24+) when the other non-storyline quests get very repetitive and samey.

  3. I'm level 30 and she has died pretty much any pull on tatooine + with a grey elite dude in a pack with a few normies, or a gold by itself. Usually I have enough time to finish the mob off myself after she dies, but it does mean I have to continually rez and heal her after each fight. I haven't played any other class with a companion so I'm not sure what its like.

Some of you guys are operatives and sound like ur healing her though, won't somebody please think of the snipers?

  4. OK my idea for a looking for group system come from not enjoy the WoW system and wanting to keep group's on the same Server. The LFG should work abit like a lobby system without being in a lobby. You put your self up on a list, This should be done with tick box's. SO for e.g. I'l would Be showed as Smuggler lvl 10, DPS, Black Talon. If i dont want to make a group then I can sit there.

Then you have a option where somone can make a group (make a game if were going back to the lobby system) That person can search through all players that have listed them selfs for groups and filter accordling. Then place everyone they picked into a lobby then once everyone it happy they click a button and bang its a group. Then you all meet up doing your question and get a high five at the end.

This would need to be its own button on the UI otherwise no one uses it lol. I think in games like league of legends or world of tanks the custom game finder systems works so well that I dont see a reason why the princables wouldnt work in a MMOLFG.

Instant locking people into a group I believe wouldnt work due to player might not want to play with x person and locks and blocks should be allowed. E.g. you can block a player from inviting you because he ninja'ed your amazing helm for his comp lol.

On a personal note I havnt had any issues finding groups I dont spam chat or in a guild. I message people asking them if they would be intrested in doing X. It works REALLY well. 90% of the time players want to do the content and I can see if there a Jugg or Power tech and ask if they can tank / heal (for healing classes) as I myself play DPS. But I dont know if players know they can talk to each other and not spam chat.

So pretty much what guild wars has? It still has chat spamming though, problem is all the instances share the same chat channel to spam in TOR. I agree, if there was a more prominent UI button to stick the LFG logo on, it would be a good idea.

I still think a system like the original, non-cross-server bg queing in wow would be better and still retain the community feel, a que system, but one that requires people to go to a certain area to que. We used to have great fun fighting/dueling and talking outside the BG enterance ques in arathi/barrens/hillsbrad, then they moved server que enterances to orgrimmer, there was still a big community vibe, but all that was totally destroyed with cross server bgs, that let you que from anywhere in the world.

  5. Community in this sense means that you play with some personal real-life friends, guildmates you like and maybe a couple people on your friends list that you thought were good tanks or whatever, instead of doing "pick up groups" where you group with random people you don't know.

In a game with no sense of community, you may group with just about anyone randomly and never see them again. In a game with a good sense of community, you will very rarely ever group with anyone you don't regularly group with, and dislike it when you do.

Yeah, but they could still fix this by making us goto a certain place to let us QUE and making it only with persons on our server, having no que system at all, meaning we end up spamming general chat for hours on end, is stupid.

At the moment, the abnoxious sith sorcerer who has been there for 5mins spamming "LFG" 5 lines every 30 seconds, can get into a group before someone who has been waiting for like 30min and not being a moron about it.

  6. Hey dude, might wanna look into one of those razer naga mouses? they have like 17 buttons and 12 quick ones on the left inside of them? if you are using your right hand that is. I'm not sure if they make left handed verison or not.

You could probably bind some buttons on it to move forward/back also, as it has extra ones on the top.

Here's a link, I know there's other, possibly better models of the same mouse too around like the "epic" version or something.

  7. I got into EA today, but unfortunatly Im stuck at work for a few more hours (yay, hobby stores = Friday Night Magic (the gathering)...ew) so Im wondering, apart from reading comics, how do YOU pass time until the next time you can play (other than sleep, for you cheeky bastards :p)

You'd be sitting in a 2 hour long que right now anyway if you were home, so no worries. A que which dosn't save ur spot and kicks you to the back if you crash ingame.

  8. This isn't even launch and it's only going to get worse. New character creation for people with no characters needs to be locked on very heavy servers with 1+ hour ques needs to be implemented, or else I see 5+ hour ques on certain servers at release.

Makes my pre-release play seem useless since I have to wait 1.5 hours to access the character I've been playing for the last 3-4 days.

If you really want to play with your friends that badly, your friend on the already overpopulated server can re-roll.

Other mmo's already do this, including wow.

In this way the entire server benefits, as they either get -1 or -2, not +1.

Spamming new server's isn't going to do anything if you don't force people to use them.

  9. I love how kids think that the retail launch is going to make things so much worse after an early access period. I'm sorry but SWTOR is essentially launched. At this point the 20th is going to come and go like a fart in the wind. Retail launch is not going to make queues dramatically worse. Nearly everyone who is going to play the game in the near future is already in the game.

Once all the fanbois get back to reality because their work vacation ran out, server queues will get back to a normal level. Then once all the kids who rush the content to polish their e-peen realize they skipped the whole game will get bored and leave a gain. Problem solved.

Give it a week and you'll be just fine.

    No one here works. :p

There's still more who arn't in yet, I'd assume at least 50%, also the kind of people who will just pick up copies on the shelf over the christmas/boxing day break.
