  1. If you want the video card/monitor to only run at 120Hz then create an EDID override and only list up to 120Hz - https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

VERY NICE! Many thanks, that is actually what I was looking for the whole time, even though it's kind of a rough fix.

Works like a charm now, as the game no longer has a chance to force the monitor/GPU up to the 144Hz :D

Guess I've to redo this with every nvidia driver update, but this fix (deleting the 144Hz option) is actually very easy to pull off with the program in the link.

    Thanks again!

  2. It's super amusing always seeing people wanting help for their PC without giving specifics.

And why the tone anyways? He's just trying to think in solutions here. He didn't deserve such an attitude from you really.

Yah, you're absolutely right. Kinda had a rough week. Sorry for the attitude there.

This problem is just really showing up with SWTOR (at least for me and Norag, as it seems), so I didn't think I had to be too specific about anything around it besides the fact that the game keeps "disrespecting" my graphical driver's settings and jumping to the max. refresh rate possible, despite even in the ingame settings and the settings file it shows to be at 120Hz.

I think I just give up on it. Many thanks for the advice anyways :)

  3. Here's a good workaround:

Get yourself a second monitor. It can be an older, used 4:3 monitor, such as a 15" or 17" lcd. Then you can put whatever it is you are alt-tab'ing to, on the second monitor, and avoid alt-tab'ing. 🤔

You were very vague about why you want to run at 120Hz instead of 144Hz. Why not just set it to 144?

It's super amusing always seeing people wanting reasons for doing stuff.

I could just say "cuz I can" or "120 is my lucky number" :rak_03:

The actual reason is, my monitor "fogs out" on 144Hz - hard to describe, but the picture gets somewhat foggy (bright/washed) in the down-right corner of the screen. That's why I'm running it at 120Hz, where this effect is not visible at all. And please, spare me the "get a new monitor then" - advices, it works perfectly fine besides that flaw :D

  4. An obvious question - is your monitor capable of doing 120Hz?

And, just because it can do 144Hz does not mean it can do 120Hz.

Valid question, but yes, it does. SWTOR is unfortunately the only game that acts weird like that -

and as a mmo with a lot of alt-tab to desktop at times I'd very much prefer to play <fullscreen (windowed)>.

To again specify, <fullscreen> and <windowed> intriguingly work without any problems.

And yes, I basically run all my games usually <fullscreen (windowed)> (for alt-tabbing-reasons).

My current workaround is to launch SWTOR, alt+tab to the Nvidia CP, and change the refresh rate manually. Sucks that I have to do this every time. And sometimes I forget and it freaks out after a while. An actual fix would be swell. It just seems like a SWTOR issue since this is the ONLY game it happens with.

^This is exactly what I do. Annoying, but sufficient for the moment I guess.

  5. Hello there,

maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution:

I normally run the game <fullscreen (windowed)> with no problems.

I've set it to 120hz refresh rate ingame (settings file shows the same) - for image quality / blb reasons.

Yet every time I start the game, it jumps back to 144hz

It actually makes the nvidia driver jump to 144hz despite the fact I've set 120hz there too - no other game I own acts like that. I have to get out of the game, into the driver, set it back to 120hz every time.

This does not happen when using <fullscreen>. It even jumps back to 120hz ingame when changing

<fullscreen (windowed)> to <fullscreen>. The ingame settings however always show constant 120hz refresh rate.

What the heck is going on? :rak_02:

  6. It's hard to believe all the work they do recreating stuff that doesn't need to be fixed or revamped is cost effective when in reality these changes actually cost them money with subs leaving the game.

    [...]

I don't know if they couldn't deliver content, as far as we know they might have just chosen not to, and instead put their eggs in another basket which was a bomb. (Anthem.)

    [...]

It's easy to blame EA for BW choosing to use loot boxes and doing all the other idiot things they have done regarding game design choices.

Since I've read that report that claimed they allegedly had (have) the resources, I guess it all comes down to a series of bad decisions, bad luck and the lack of ideas/balls to do stuff the "right" way. I've recently played thru the WoW expansions again and was staggered how much they tried to copy from the "big boy".

My best guess is very early after release they gave up trying to deliver content like they initially planned.

I can't get Mr. Ohlen (irrc) out of my head stating that they worked 1.5 years on the first rakghoul content batch (GU 1.1) - "that's how epic that is". The non recurring event was probably (at least imo) one of the best ones, the flashpoints are nice both in atmosphere and mechanics. It was content for roughly 2 weeks in my case.

You could argue what is RNG now was the stretch of the event over a week - but at least it felt somewhat original (like the Chevin event).

Ossus, on the other hand, is theoretically content for several months - if you care for gear acquisition and RNG'esus hates you. If not, Ossus is content for a mere few hours.

They want to focus on gear, which is absolutely okay in a MMO imo.

I want to be rewarded for stuff I do because I manage to do it.

I don't want to hammer(station) the slotmachine and pray for loot.

I digress, sry. I don't know why I still have love left for the game.

Guess I'm a weird addict who can't get away from his drug, who knows :rak_01:

  7. The sabotage of this game seems so ridiculously structured you'd think it was purposefully done. Either they are trying to kill the game with awful game design choices, or they are 100% clueless and this is the result of a mismanagement nightmare.

What other explanations are there for the choices this studio has made over the years? Love to hear some white knights explain how any of these changes have made the game better.

You are a wiseman and a scholar. Theses changes didn't make anything better at all, but I fear they were necessary because they couldn't deliver other content than RNG. #greyknight

  8. Modern RNG lootbox gambling schemes are made up to maximise playtime (aka "games as a service") and trigger addictive collection behaviour (aka "thrill of the hunt") to milk the most money out of your playerbase with minimal effort in development.

    1) Grind the loot into fine dust

    2) Throw the dust into players face

    3) Whatever randomly sticks may be of use, if not enough - rinse and repeat

    4) ???

    5) Profit

PS: I like the idea of horizontal gearing, I like the sets on PTS (even though most of the tweaking does not matter much) - I absolutely despise the horrendous RNG that's solely there to artificially lengthen the time required to gear up.

  9. How about implementing a simple tree-like system into legacy (something like the skills/utilities) to

    a) See which choices lead to which outcome/path and light up/show which of your characters have made which choices - to add replay value

    b) Circumvent (optional) the dreaded auto-complete of starting Ossus by lettting us make the core choices (just use the mentioned system for that)

  10. Unless I missed it in the patch notes - unlikely - no double xp with this patch.

We will need to earn our levels the hard way - not that levels are hard to get in SWTOR under any circumstances.

Agreed, but I was hoping for it in the wake of the expansion to be somewhat less painfully able to grind 4 chars to cxp level 300... guess I have to do it the hard way now (yeah yeah, I know, I don't HAVE TO do anything... :o)

  11. Because such an interesting character never should have been killed off in such a stupid, anti-climactic way to begin with?

    Sorry Sir/Mam, but

finishing Malgus with the stupid knockback grenades (kinda like Vader dealt with the Emperor in ROTJ) after the events on Ilum with both of the flashpoints as a finale was one of my favourite moments in SWTOR, I can't let you get away with calling these events "anti-climactic".

    - even though I didn't like the idea of Malgus being gone in the first place, so I'm glad he's back in action.

Still wondering about the carbonite scene with the sons of Tenebrae - was there ever anything in the game that indicated he survived the explosion of the Emperor's Station?

  12. Once someone has done their MOTW daily (could be 3-4 matches), they can then choose wether to queue RQM or 4MCQ. They don’t have too keep playing the MOTW if they don’t want too.

You will also get many more rewards for Competing all 3 dailies instead of just queuing for 4MCQ.

Mkay, I think I got your idea now. As said, more missions/incentives overall == good stuff.

Is there a worst case scenario or risk. Sure, but only small if the rewards and daily lures are balanced properly.

This. Very important. At first read I was thinking you outlined the ultimate rewards for the MOTW-warzones. Without proper blanace between the rewards, I'd probably first try to finish the MOTW-weekly/daily on all my characters and then start queuing randomly (unless I hate the MOTW).

Problem with this scenario: If enough players do so (for gearing purposes etc.), you'd only see the MOTW - for a long long time.

Realistically the worst case senario is nearly better than the best case senario we have now.

Well, I almost agree. Alternative for BW: fix the successional pops of the same maps. Any map (unless it's your favourite) will probably annoy you playing it more than 2 times in a row. I personally still wish for a variety (of maps and players) during my pvp sessions, but this fix could potentially double queue time.

As for playing with the same people all the time, that’s all I get to do now. It doesn’t matter if the queue has enough for a few 8 man matches at a time because you will always get the same 24-32 people rotating through every other match.

Sad to hear that, but now imagine 10-15 of these players either deselct your favourtie map or only select a certain map (certain maps) you don't enjoy very much. #dealwithit?

In fact, if a guild chooses to do so, you might end up seeing 5-10 times the same map in a row (depending on the weekly), with some arenas in between.

I still feel like I have to tell you that I really appreciate your effort, you certainly put a lot of love and dedication into this, but I personally think (while in fact I would love to be able to choose maps) this could potentially be the final nail in the pvp-coffin.

  13. 1. Queue random (like it works now). So what every map the queue system decides is what you get (no choice)

    2. Map of the week is still part of the original queue, but you are guaranteed to get that map if you queue for it.

    3. Map choice (you have to choose 4 maps). These are also part of the queue, but you are guaranteed to not get any of the maps that aren’t one of the 4 you choose.

Please don't get me wrong - as I've said in the other thread already, I really admire the effort you put into this :)

Maybe it's cause I'm a rather pessimistic person, but let's talk about a "worst case" (that's one out of the countless scenarios that come to my mind, just for example):

Map of the week: Huttballs (a random rotation of all three)

30 players queuing in the beginning.

After the first match, 7 players don't want to play Huttball again (estimate) - they choose 4 maps (anything but Huttball).

Considering the (interesting) incentives put on the Map of the week, I assume the majority would queue for Huttballs. So I put 15-20 players in that queue.

Result: Only Huttballs (with basically the same players over and over again) and arenas (for the remaining ones) will pop.

I would be happy with that cause I like Huttball, but

    1) I prefer not to play with the same people the whole time.

    2) The ones stuck with arenas might not be happy.

I would really love to think thru all the possible variations and run a simulation or sth. to be able to tell you how many active players queuing I would need to NOT be so super pessimistic about any possibility of map choice.

Unfortunately, time's really short on my end atm. (and I'd need a sophisticated guess of the player base for each map) :(

  14. Using the same/similar interface for FP queues, why can't we have a map vote? Check off the maps you want to play. The next map to pop is chosen by the 8 that make it into the queue pop (as based on the matchmaking algorithm).

One of the biggest problems I see is the rather low (pvp) population on the servers. The moment you introduce a map vote system or sth. (similar to flashpoints), I assume these two things will happen:

    1) Queue time will be extended.

    2) Some maps won't pop (at all).

In the end, you do need 16 players for a match (not "only" 4 like for flashpoints). Also, they've implemented a system which tries to balance out the teams... You do see the complex hellhole we dive into here?

Also, fp's show kinda what this system can lead to - I more than often had to heal thru 3 Hammer Stations in a row because the tank was the only tank in queue and only checked Hammer Station (I was queuing for random fp).

Interestingly enough, I wouldn't complain because I queued to finish the hc-weekly. Hammer Station did the job fast.

Back to PvP: if I never got to see - for example - Huttball* again (*insert your favourite maps here),

    I'd probably lose interest.

Ultimately, I guess the drawbacks will piss off far more players than having to play the same maps in a row.

We as a community have to work together and sometimes put down our own likes and dislikes in order to make it somewhat enjoyable for as many players as possible. Even if that means that I must not leave Odessen or Hypergate wzs and do my best to act as a valuable team member.

    :rak_03:

  15. Which means even if the queue worked properly and didn’t give you the same map in a row, there would still be a 33% chance of getting another Hutt Ball. Where as you only have 11.% chance of getting another map.

Using math to your advance? :D

If you state it that way, Huttball is at 33%, NOT getting Huttball is at 66%.

It means in the long run you're expected to see 1 out of 3 of your games to be Huttball.

You would not get 8-10 Hypergates matches in a row. But you can and do get 8-10 HB matches in a row.

My experience (and with Huttball I always count all three maps) is actually that it does not pop overly often. I begin to wonder if this is a server or time of day - specific phenomenon. I usually play 10-20 games in a row in the evening, and only if I'm very lucky I get 3-4 Huttball maps. (when I expect up to 6-7 games in average when playing 20 wzs).

Yesterday - 10 wzs (in order of pop):

    1 Alderaan

    3 Hypergates (in row)

    1 Yavin

    2 Novare (in row)

    1 Odessen

    1 Voidstar

    1 Huttball

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your effort (and your suggestions in your other thread), but I have to object your statements because I simply don't see it happen on my end.

  16. I never had Voidstar pop 2 times in a row, let alone 4 times ever in 6+ years of PVP. Or any map for that matter... I have had 3-4 huttballs pop in a row though, it's the only map to do that from my years of experience.

Interesting. I've also been playing PVP basically since launch - tbf, I wasn't watching the pop-situation back then

(also, there were far less wzs to begin with).

As someone who really enjoys Huttball I would love to switch places with you - give me the hb pops, you can have my 4 (!) Odessen pop-row I had two days ago.

I don't know how the wz rng works, maybe something is wrong on BW's end - don't expect or ask for a fix, they'll only break the code.

Aaaaand choosing wzs - while seemingly a legit request - might ultimately dry out certain wz's (or you might end up playing with the same 15 players over and over again). I don't think this is the PvP experience I'd go for.

  17. The only thing I see (no matter which time of the day) is that sometimes the same wz's seem to pop 3-4 times in a row. This has happened to me with Voidstar, Alderaan, Novare Coast and Odessen so far.

Never been lucky enough to get this streak with Huttball.

Conclusion: All the other maps pop far too often, reduce them and increase the Huttball pops!

(or maybe my personal experience is not representative for the whole situation...)

  18. Oh good lord you made me snort in my coffee rofl

You might want to give your doctor a call. Hearing voices is usually a second-party problem.

Great, now people start calling me insane :rak_04:

I just made sure everything was up to date. As said, this popped up after the recent patch

(and Windows Update Microsoftraped my system this week too).

Played several other games, can't reproduce this audio-stuttering outside of SWTOR. Monitoring the system while playing doesn't show any abnormalities. Listening to music in the background shows that only the game's audio stutters.

It's nothing gamebreaking anyways, but it's super irritating as I expect a visual lag of some sort when the audio does that, but nothing else except the sounds stutters :D

  19. I haven't had any that would be special for the game...

What kind of hiccup are we talking about? Distorted noise? Sounds cut off or repeat?

Do you get other issues while the hiccups happen like fps drop, high ping, CPU overload, system memory jumps, overheating?

The only known recent sound problem ingame is huttball cheer crowd being way too loud than it should be. Some other frequent known ones are random explosive noises on your ship and rocket boot sounds in strongholds.

    Its something like

    stuuuuupppppid

    or

    hiiihiiiiccup

to somewhat visualize what the hiccup sounds like. Really strange, as this has never occured before the patch.

Also I don't experience any other freezes/lag etc., so I'm confused - especially 'cause noboy else seems to have that problem.

  20. Greetings, just wanted to ask if anybody else is experiencing strange sound/music hiccups while playing the game.

It's hard to describe, but a hiccup is what comes closest to it, I got this all over the gameplay (solo, fp, wz,...).

Couldn't tell if this is related to the latest patch or my system (probably the latest Windows Update, idk).

  21. Greetings.

    Title says it.

Every other item drop of the Contraband Slot Machine is Bound on Legacy except the most interesting ones - the corny coloured walker mounts.

I think the machine overall is okay where it's at, any buff would hurt the economy, but this should be changed.

Also, you could consider an achievement for spinning the wheels very often (like 50000 times or so).

  22. Tbh, I did my research, especially cause I wanted to know approximately how often I will have to spin the wheels.

I didn't stumble upon the fact that it was NOT BoL, so I figured it would be, as every other drop of the slot machine is BoL (if you consider the reputation actually counting legacy-wide).

And to be even further honest, I didn't expect it to actually drop :D

And btw, I think the distribution of loot is ok the way it is now, it's good they didn't reverse it back to where it was when the machine was introduced (I still made a lot of profit with the wheel spinning these days, but it's far too time consuming to be an actual viable way of farming credits).

Guess I gotta spin fast then to make it drop on the character I want that stupid mount <.< :rak_03:
