  1. is it just me or are the ships way too slow?

I've only had a couple of games but was disappointed at their lack of speed.

I realise that you can buy engine boosters which I presume increase speed but surely they would go faster to begin with?

    Or is it just me?

These sense of speed is off. Under non afterburner scenarios it feels like I'm not even moving. I've already voiced my opinion on the turn rates too - granted I am playing with near stock ships.

I'll let it brew for a few months and return.

    Fly safe 07

  2. "X" completely stops your ship. You can accelerate slowly, but there seems to be a minimum speed.

"R" is the button you are looking for.

I recommend reading Dulfy's new players guide to learn more than what the tutorial teaches you before becoming disappointed with GSF: http://dulfy.net/2013/11/15/swtor-galactic-starfighter-new-player-guide/

Read it, tried again. After remapping keys it's a bit better, but overall it just feels...weird. I've been playing SCon far too long apparently.

o7 and thanks for the link.

  3. That. A million times over.

Also, why would you ever want to stop. You'd be the perfect target for everyone.

Never heard of hugging the terrain eh? Ambushing? Popup sniping? Things that exist in other space combat sims and are pretty much required in order to survive.

I'm not suggesting you stop in the middle of an expanse and try to track targets. What I am suggesting is that you use cover to your advantage. Having full control over throttle (and having throttle decay) as well as viable lateral movements >>>>>> hard pitch.

  4. Been watching the development of GSF since it's announcement. I didn't get a chance to play on the test server due to travel, but spun it up today after it officially dropped.

I must say, I was expecting much more. The mouse movement rates are way overtweaked (even after I ensured any acceleration as low as possible) yet the turn rate of the ships is abysmal. Strafe is too slow to be of any use, and there is a constant throttle model - You are unable to come to a complete stop, only slow down slightly (which is fun when you graze the edge of a beacon and get stuck, ultimately dying due to collision since it's grinding you into the side of it...). Essentially, it was just speed fire runs over and over again with very limited tracking ability of your opponent. I didn't see a "lock who's locking me" or assist function in the keybindings, but I might have missed it.

I dunno, I was expecting Star Conflict level of dogfighting, but what this currently is seems more like a glorified version of the already existing space combat, sans the rails. I get that I must remain somewhat "arcade-y" and fit within the SW universe, but it still feels a bit rushed. Little things - like capture % indicators and whatnot - would go a long way for the PVP aspect.

I'm interested to see how this goes as things progress.

  5. Came back to quite a few changes. Dusted off the old BH and spec'd heavy into arsenal. Pulled out ol' mako for the healbot, set her on medwatch like a good little pet.

Problem? I'm getting my arse kicked by 47 silvers. I mean, bad. Even with the steam from healbot in the backline it's easy to become overwhelmed by mobs that I sure don't remember hitting this hard (2 levels below me to boot). Obviously I'm doing something wrong here. Gear isn't that bad - mostly oranges and everything up to date rating wise. Lots of endurance, lots of aim.

    So... o.O

  6. The only DS points I have are from Diplomacy (ie: didn't want to wait for those damn medical supplies...). Never chose a DS response. To me it actually is more in line with a real BH -- being sadisctic and reckless killing everything can limit your career moves later on down the road. I'm not touchy feely for the most part, I care about money and rep.

Do the job, do it right -- don't have to kill everyone in the fight.

  7. I switched from arsenal to bodyguard @ 35 I had the oposite reaction you did -- zero issues soloring. In fact, it was rediculous how much damage and uptime I had.

Tracer missile w/ full stacks, railshot, unload. Mako is healbot and CC (bind it to a hot key, it helps). I only dropped a heal on myself in emergencies -- venting regains 7%, medpacks are there for backup, and kolto overload for a nice boost every 3 minutes. I've died once in 20 levels, which was me driving around a corner into a pack of 2 silvers 3 regular and 1 elite mob. I lasted a long time before the elite finally broke CC at a bad time and killed me. Mako n' me would run 2-man heroics w/o issue all day long.

...now I'm back to pure healing w/ less offensive capabilities. I dunno, it's the same boat with a tradeoff of having a dps pet out vs. heal pet. I'm still tanking, but now I heal myself rather than pure pew-pew. Not sure which one I like more, but I ultimately will heal end game so it's at least useful to get the rotation down solid.

  8. Figured as much -- which sucks, he's melee w/ heavy armor..should be a tank damn it ;)

Same level mobs, he's in all greens thus far (implated/ear also). Even being DPS I would expect him to bring a mob down faster than he is w/o getting steamrolled by 2-3 at a time. I dunno man... having to wait until early 40's for a true "tank" is going to suck. Not sure I want to level with flashpoints only.

  9. I took my JC:Sage to 40 and I decided to give the ol' bounty hunter some love for a while. After leveling as Arsenal, I decided to respec body guard at 35 once I had my "tank" pet (caldera)....yeah, not going so well.

I guess I should have checked the companion spect before hand, but I figured a heavy armored melee toon using aim was our version of Qyzen. But he's not. He's all melee, no tank. No taunt, no defense stance, nada (unless I'm seriously missing something). As such he is getting ripped appart in general PVE while I frantically sit back to heal him. I have no issues managing heat but I got to say the lack of DPS (since I am baby sitting him) *hurts* compared to just rolling with mako pocket healer as an arsenal spec. I can't offtank a mob since every time I divert my attention away it seems the companion has gone full squishy mode for some reason.

    Rotation:

    Kolto shield before fight

    Send in pet for agro

    Kolto missile for heal boost

    Heal scan/rapid scan as needed

CSC dump for increase in heal/dmg output as 30 stacks are up

    Mob dies

Normally this multitasking isn't an issue, but man If I can't get any DPS in there with him due to his super squish nature.

What am I doing wrong? I will say that healing a group of people wasn't an issue what so ever (as I could just focus on my job) but babysitting the companion in questing sucks thus far.

  10. If you bind companion attack to a key, you can explicitly send him off to a mob on the side and face pull/CC the others to you. Keeps CC break out of the equasion in most cases.

also helps if you pull too many, you can have him come after one and regain agro w/ taunt. In either case, you should have zero issues leveling as heal spec (you *did* put points into telekenetics too though right? :) )

    Cheers

  11. If you go sage - regardless of your end spec (heal, dmg or dot) *put the first 5 points into telekenetics*. Seriously. As a healer you don't get your big heal until 14 anyway and you'll be damaging instead of backline healing all the time. Don't gimp your damage output by not investing into the damage tree.
