  1. When you create a server and give it a title of "RP-PVE" or "RP-PVP", you certainly can enforce stronger filters for names. Many MMOs do this. The fact the Biwoare didn't do that with this game is very telling to their "commitment" to the RP crowd.

They won't. Why? Because they've got RP-level rules on names on every server. You can't name your character after Star Wars lore characters, pop culture celebrities, historical figures, l33t speak, anything profane, etc. etc. etc. Most games will let you name yourself, "Ladygagahater" if you so wish. So if anything, they're kinder to the "Roleplay" or even just the "I want immersion" crowd.

And now? Not even close. They throw in RP servers to cater to the RP crowd. But they don't moderate, not even with some simple naming rules. Nothing breaks the illusion like someone named "Icanhazchzbrgr" running up to you on the Fleet with his big epeen mount and jumping up and down on your head while you're trying to RP. And ignoring someone doesn't make them go away, or make them invisible or any less irritating...

Question. Do you report these people? You have to understand that moderators can't be around as much as your average player, and if so, when you report someone, do you see them again? Does, "Icanhazchzbrgr" stick around for very long? I've noticed that since the start, the amount of "trolol" names have dropped significantly. Maybe it's because we actually report them? The effect is far less visible, as they, according to the ToS, not talk to you about banning other players beyond the initial report.

Add to that no chat bubbles or any convenient way of conversing for RP (and custom chat channels aren't the answer, never have been; as soon as there's more than 4 or 5 people participating, it becomes too hard to follow).

Chat bubbles are, I will admit, one of the things that peeves me off about SWTOR RP, but it isn't as big an issue as you make out. We use our custom channels plenty and are typically able to keep up a conversation of about 5-6 people, and even occasionally having two different conversations in the same channel. It requries more patience and facilitation, but it still works.

What we have here is a frankly, crude but working system. And to be honest, I'm glad we have a working system in the first. place.

And now that they're merging servers, they force even the RPers on the EU RP-PVP servers to transfer to pure PVP servers. How is that at all equitable? If I'd wanted to play on a PVP server, I would have rolled on one. What's more, they took 2 full weeks to decide to screw us that way.

This, I am not sure about. Are there any other RP-PVP servers in your time zone? If not, then I can maybe see the logic of still wanting to consolidate them, but at the same time, reduce the amount of RP servers? Now, maybe Bioware feels that your RP-PVP servers, even if all combined, may not be enough to foster a healthy community. So, they are merging them with the nearest type of server, PVP. To be honest, you can still RP in a PVP server, they even have the same rules as I mentioned earlier.

  2. I remember seeing something similar tried in "that other game", and to be honest, I was lost the entire time. I like the idea, but it'd have to be very coordinated, at least on the part of the actors. Even in "that other game" with their chat bubbles, it was easy to get lost in the people /saying different clues and questions, imagine how difficult it'd be without them.

It's a good idea, and I am all for it, I just want to see if you had any workarounds for the issues I just described.

  3. There are very few roleplayers left, I always try, but people think I am crazy.
I'd beg to differ. The ones who believe that to RP they need every tool that a company can give them to do it...

    You cannot sit in chairs.
    Hooray for imagination!

    You cannot meditate.
Pfft. I meditate standing up, you're doing it wrong.

    You cannot sleep.
    I also sleep standing up.

You cannot choose your lightsaber stance.
This is just silly. You really think it's worth the investment to give different stances different animations that 75% of the playerbase wouldn't care for or utilize...

You cannot find a single fashionable outfit to wear.
Lies! My Bounty Hunter looks absolutely spiffin'!

You cannot enter 60% of the world because you are not the right class/completed the phase already.
Okay, so this is legitimate. I just want Port Nowhere to be opened up.

You cannot wander too far or you will run into an "exhaustion zone"
Happened twice to me, in total. You really think you can wander the deserts of Tatooine and no die of heat exhaustion?

You cannot swim because there is no water deeper than 3 feet.
No, our characters are all just inexplicably tall.

You cant fly your starship, you can only watch it fly.
This, I would just be patient for. I would be shocked and bewildered if expanded space combat were not a major feature of a big patch/expansion.

You cannot craft, you can only coordinate a small team to do it for you.
    As a non-crafter, I say... Hallelujah!

You cannot walk into very many buildings.
Well duh, they are other peoples' houses.

The world is depressing, with new planets that don't feel like starwars.
What makes a planet feel like Star Wars? Let's take a look at the "new" planets. Quesh, a planet with a toxic atmosphere and a war over resources going on, sounds Starwarsy. Voss, a forest planet trapped in autumn. Okay, Mr. Vader, fire up the Death Star. I am annoyed by the Voss anyways.

    Chat bubbles are non-existent.

Forget about world RP-PvP events, the planets are faction phased.
Ah... Yes. A double edged sword. Newbies will not be forced to watch level 50 Sith charge into the Republic starting zones and kill all the questgivers.

Forget about storyline, this one is garbage, karpyshyn left bioware, and daniel erickson is in charge.
Oh sire! Tell me more about your opinions that are obviously facts!

Forget about player population, a minimum of 400,000 canceled (with another 200,000 atleast that recieved a free month which only applies during account cancelation, in order to legally count as "still subscribed" to decieve shareholders during the last report)
Because fraud is a totally smart thing for them to do...

Forget about seeing me, my account was just canceled.
Obviously not, you're still posting, and apparently according to earlier in your post, still trying to RP.

Forget about improvements, bioware is choosing to pretend that everything is just dandy.
    i can haz ur stuffz?

In all honesty, you're better off playing WoW and pretending your a jedi, it's just as much of a stretch.

Funny. By the time I left WoW, people were saying the exact same things about WoW... Then they announced the Panda Expansion...

  4. I can certainly see why a lot of people might enjoy that but it doesn't sound like I would fit in very well. Thanks for the info though.

Someone's obviously got a jaded view. It is okay to not always be in-character on a RP server, the idea of a RP server is that it is a server where one can find RP and it is acceptable to RP (not ERP) in public. Basically, one might not be in character while running Operations, because he doesn't want that to be a part of his story. Roleplayers tend to run events, hang out in certain spots (like cantinas) and such for RP, it isn't necessarily a, "If you break your character, you are not a roleplayer" situation. You can certainly say, ((Okay all, it's been fun and I've enjoyed this RP a lot, but I've gotta get up early in the morning)) (Double brackets meaning you are saying something as you, not your character) without breaking roleplay rules.

  5. Oh, and since everyone else is putting in an advertisement for their server...

We are on Vrook Lamar over here. What we lack in sheer numbers we make up for in quirks and all that fun stuff. I've found Vrook Lamar to be a very enjoyable community, with friendly players and great roleplay, if small and slightly cliquish compared to some servers, however, if you ever want to hit anyone up for RP, any of the regulars to this site...

    http://www.vrooklamar.net/

Would be glad to. We are a very friendly, if not so big community. But we are growing, steadily.

  6. Okay, let's look at the Droids plus Blizz. C2-N2 and 2V-R8 would be duking it out over who gets SCORPIO, meanwhile Blizz rides around on his belly on top of T7, before getting distracted and trying to dismantle 4X, who protests fiercely but is unable to grab the guy, due to the awkwardness of his limbs.

Corso would get along with... Iresso, Aric, Elara and Yuun I believe. They'd talk all day about the Republic, weapons, war and good drinks. I honestly think that Corso (assuming that the Smuggler character is a dude) would try to flirt with Dorne once Corso got drunk enough.

Skadge and Khem would duke it out, with Bowdaar reffing. Broonmark may join in at the last second too, with Qyzen sitting there calculating how many Jagganth points each of them would give him.

Gault and Guss Tuno would get along, both con men who have a knack for staying alive.

Risha, Vette, Kira and Mako may get along. Heck, I could even see them flaunting off their guys and trying to decide who's the best.

DS Jaesa and Lord Scourge would sit in a corner, wondering who to kill, while LS Jaesa sits in the other corner, meditating or something.

  7. I'm mad because Bioware doesn't have the backbone to stick with what's right, they HAD it more or less right and screwed it all in fear or losing some subs, period.

Except it wasn't sensible. Tell me, should my trooper NOT be able to shoot red blaster shot because he's not a psychopathic jerk? Or if we align it based on faction, then he still cannot, and then if we do it by classes, then by that point it's ridiculous. Should then Troopers not be allowed to shoot yellow or blue crystals because those are "Jedi" colors? Obviously, you are not a fan of Sith using blue and green, so you want Bioware to change something that obviously, a lot of players are enjoying because you don't see it as "sensible" or "lore-abiding". If a Sith decided that he was going to troll the Jedi and put a green crystal into his saber, would the crystal scream at him and say, "You're too evil!" And roll into the great unknown?

No. It's a crystal. Deal with it. More variety = more fun in my view, and I know other players share that view.

  8. Act 1 is a treasure hunt plus a vendetta, alongside some interesting dealings.

Act 1 Smuggler is one of the few story arcs that actually, you get emotionally vested into. Right there next to the Trooper Story. Act 2 is kind of. "well okay", but Act 3 is awesome. I loved the Smuggler Story, it's a well-done story that really, the writers weren't aiming to make a "Luke Skywalker"/"Boba Fett" knockoff story, but they had fun with it and I believe it was an overall, well-done story with weak point and very strong points.

  9. In my mind, I think that it's more of a morale blow to the Jedi than anything else.

Of course, Flesh Raiders seem to control it anyways. That'd be like an enemy nation capturing the White House from the U.S., THEN terroritsts blow it up.

  10. Are you legitimately complaining about too much variety in pvp?Or are you complaining that there are too few PVPers on your server?

Alterac Valley was basically a game in of itself. Lots of fun, except for the fact that not everyone had from noon to midnight to play one.

The Troll is not that strong with this one.

  11. Remains no real, decent reason for this. Try some damn variety writers.....

My question is why are you so butthurt over it? Star Wars was always a good vs. evil story, is a good vs. evil story, and will be a good vs. evil story.

Same reason that Jedi cannot choke people, shoot lightning or any of that "cool-evil" stuff that Sith do.

  12. I've turned down potential recruits due to names in the past. I'll likely be turning down Sith Jedi in the future as well. I can't believe BioWare did that

This is a case of when I think I can legitimately say, "Open up your mind". I've RPed with a few Sith Jedi recently, and while some may act more like Sith, most I'd say have a legitimate story/reason to be a Jedi as opposed to well, a Sith. I don't see the issue personally.

  13. .....You do realize this is now the 3rd time you've backed up my point bout the Jedi winning PURELY on said BS....right?

You could also say that Sith are powerful because the villains in a story have to be super-powerful to make the hero look good. Would Star Wars have been cool if Darth Vader was an old man who used a wheelchair to move around and couldn't Force-choke anyone because he was too old?
